So far it's been a great experience and I'm very happy with the service I've been getting from RentWell. The biggest plus is the availability of management (after hours when needed) and the flexibility to appease the tenants. I also had a good relationship with a service person I wanted to continue to do business with and they've allowed that to continue and have supplied other service professionals as well. They also do quarterly inspections to the landlord is always in the loop about the condition of the property to help avoid being blindsided when someone either moves out or when the lease is renewed. I would give this company less than one star if I could. Our experience renting from them was extremely frustrating. When we moved in, the house was already dirty and had multiple damages that we documented and reported during the move-in process. Despite this, when we moved out they kept our security deposit and claimed we were responsible for those same pre-existing damages. Their reasoning was that because we did not specifically request that the issues be repaired, we became liable for them. This makes the entire move-in inspection process pointless, even though it is required in their own contract to document existing problems. Maintenance was also a major issue. Our refrigerator was not working properly from the beginning, and we were told appliances were "not their responsibility." When it finally stopped working completely, they refused to fix it promptly and we had to live out of coolers for almost two weeks. Communication was another ongoing problem. Emails and messages often went unanswered, and it was extremely difficult to get clear responses about repairs or concerns. Overall, this company was very slow to address maintenance issues, poor at communication, and ultimately kept our deposit for damages that were present before we moved in. I would strongly caution anyone considering renting from them to document everything very carefully and think twice before signing a lease. read more

We rented from them for 3 years. Left the apartment in better shape then we found it. Got a notice that they were deducting $550 from our security deposit. They attached a sentence that stated "remove nails screws 3m tape patch and repair as needed paint to match as needed replace burned out or missing light bulbs cleaning as needed". My property manager then refused to answer my calls or emails requesting a cost breakdown since this is a large deduction. I have yet to hear from them and it's about a week later and 20+ calls across the company and I found no one who can help me or answer any questions. Rentwell lets tenants live in MOLD-infested bedrooms/units w/ leaking ceiling for over a year and STILL try to screw you out of your security deposit. No call backs to numerous phone calls, no responses to emails, no care but for GREED. When initially addressed by me, there were multiple comments that this would be fixed soon and someone would deal with the continued mold growth and ceiling crumbling, to no avail. This included a walkthrough by one of your employees prior to my lease renewal stating his appreciation for, and I quote, "taking great care of the unit otherwise". Furthermore, another employee toured the units with what I presume was the unit owner just three to four months ago, where the unit owners even made comments that this needs to be fixed ASAP (again to no avail and continued mold growth). Continued comments were even made my the maintenance staff about the lack of railings on a stairwell with more than four risers, a back porch with collapsing steps, and more. They hired contractors to do a shotty job at fixing french drains. Tore the basement apart, threw my stuff into a big pile and stole a bunch of my tools and power tools. Rentwell did nothing to rectify this other than accuse me of hooking up my washer. Which the contractors told her.But why on earth would they lie? Was a vendor for Rentwell Pittsburgh. The communication is non existent with the PM Dean. Was scheduled to repair drywall and was never told the roof was never fixed. Performed other work and billed for the service and materials. Owner won't pay because the work wasnt done. (Couldn't be done) informed them of lead based paint and can't do the work. I been in this apartment for almost 13 never have a problem until a couple of years ago when new owners take over. Parking is a nightmare we still have 4 garage cans with a 10 apartments in the building. No parking passes so therefore we don't know who is supposed to park in the lot. I contracted Rentwell to manage a half duplex in Pittsburgh when my son, who was occupying it, moved to Miami for school. They did a decent job in cleaning and repairing the property for rent but it did remain unoccupied for several months. On New Years Day the occupant of the other side of the duplex called that water was coming into his basement from my side. He went to my property and found the front door unlocked. He entered and found burst pipes due to the fact that Rentwell had not turned on the heat during the winter, as well as not securing the front door. My insurance company refused to pay for the $6500 in damages since the heat was not turned on. Rentwell's own contractor noted this in his repair statement to seal this into the situation. When I asked Rentwell if they would compensate me for the damages due to not turning on the heat or securing the property, their response was a flat no. They took no responsibility for this and told me "This is the risk that you take with owning a rental property." I thought this was why I was paying them to manage my property. I now have a different management firm. I would not recommend this firm for any one who thinks management would include locking the front door and turning on the heat in winter read more

Rentwell does not responsibly care for the buildings that they manage, which harms both renters and owners. Depending on whether they own each property, they operate either as a predatory middle-man or as a neo-slumlord. They also force renters to sign illegal lease terms. Rentwell continues to collect fees from thousands of renters, who all deserve safe and dignified housing. They must be responsive to their tenants, as represented by Philly Tenants Union, Pittsburgh Union of Regional Renters and Garden Club Tenants Union. Once Rentwell has rectified their predatory behavior and made meaningful progress on these organizations' demands, I will change my review. read more

I have never left a review, but I am at my wits end and don't know what else to do but warn others about the gross incompetence of this company. I rent a property that was managed by a different agency prior to RentWell taking over. I had a lease in place, that was signed by myself, the homeowner, and the previous company. My first sign RentWell was a problem should have been the fact that they tried to modify my existing lease and make me pay additional fees that were not outlined in my lease at all. When I confronted them with a copy of the original lease, they backed down. Then, I have an issue with an important kitchen appliance. After being told to contact a maintenance company that doesn't even service our area, followed by many calls to a maintenance phone line that doesn't even remotely help, we are almost 2 months without a functioning kitchen appliance. After scheduling a repair OURSELVES, and the day finally comes for the repair, we get a call from the technician that because RentWell is not contactable for payment, we must be responsible for the costs incurred. No way. If you like being left high and dry and feeling like your money is going towards being ignored then go for RentWell. Otherwise, I'd steer clear. read more

Met with Carl Friedel at my newly renovated home to potentially rent / manage my Pittsburgh property while I work and live in Los Angeles. Initially, he was quick and responsive in setting a time to see the property and inform me about the company. I was honest in letting him know I was exploring other companies and might even have a personal lead on a prospective tenant. Carl said he'd get back to me on price comps for unfurnished / fully furnished home listings in the area. I've reached out via email twice (within the last 2 weeks) to followup and inform him that I fortunately was able to rent the place out furnished for several months but would be interested in Rentwell as a management option / help with future rentals. He has not responded yet. Not certain why he is now unresponsive, as I know I created an amazing property and can rent it out for a very beneficial profit. Reliable management and the timely communication a homeowner needs is hard to come by and a rental/management company only gets one chance to make one first impression. My advice for everyone who reads this is to keep looking for a company who deserves your business. I've quickly discovered Rentwell is not the company for me. read more

Hired them and shortly regretted the day I signed them up to manage my Pittsburgh properties. You're the last to get your hard earned money. You shoulder all the risk. They virtually have none and get first dibs on the cash. I'll hold back the adjectives. None are complimentary of Rentwell. Not a single one. Run away if you value your investment. I also paid rentwell to move in and it was cashed THE NEXT DAY, 2 days later they sent us an eviction notice and when we called to clear things up they did not even apologize and just said "oops we didnt mark it down" ON SUNDAY NIGHT at 9 pm a man was sent to our home by the company to fix a leak and he was told by Stacey, the account manager that our property was VACANT and when told her it was not, she said it was and to go in there any way! My boyfriend also came home and found a man in the living room who was told they had full access to go in the home. We called SO MANY TIMES to ask what was happening and why they are doing this to us... an entire year passed and Carl NEVER called us ONCE! A few weeks later, I was in my bath towel and a lady came in with a man saying they were told to come inside to fix a leak. I told them if they didnt leave I would call the police because no one told me anything. They left and I called the police and filed a report. I called Rentwell and Carl took it as a joke, and told me "its not even that serious, let them in" even thought I never received notice. They kept telling me they did and when i asked for proof THEY SENT THE NOTICE TO THE PRIOR TENANT! read more

Rentwell does not care for our property at ALL. There are SEVERAL problems going on with the house we currently rent and we are only allowed to submit one request at a time. The toilet has been "fixed" 3 times already and it still is not in working order. The last time they sent maintenance, he called saying he would be here in another hour so we stayed home waiting and he just decided to show up 4 hours later knocking at the door. He was here for less than 2 minutes and our toilet still will not flush at times. I asked for it to be replaced being as though it is the only toilet in the residence shared by 3 people. The second time it was worked on, without any warning or explanation, we were hit with a $700 bill that was automatically taken out of our rental payment. After calling to find out about this, they finally explained that there was a clog in the toilet which we were blamed for. We have a foul odor coming from the faucet that they will not fix. Our fridge has been replaced once already due to leaking and this replacement fridge is also leaking daily. The cabinets in the kitchen fell off due to a horrible glue job and have yet to be fixed. The closet doors in our master bedroom clearly do not fit on the guide for them to slide back and forth so they constantly are falling off. There is now a huge leak in our basement from a pipe above the hot water tank and it is leaking HOT water all over the floor. We've been waiting 8 hours for an emergency maintenance worker to respond. On top of all of this, they suddenly started charging a $15 "resident package" fee without any explanation. I have yet to hear back from our property manager to explain the charges. There has also been plenty of run ins with rodents in the house despite having a basement. So you will definitely NEED a cat in your residence. I will NEVER consider renting under this company EVER again. We cannot wait to move. read more

I have had many experiences with different management companies but none have come close to the professionalism that Renwell provides. I'm not sure how accurate these reviews are as I am have been dealing with rental well for months. Carl actually helped me get out of a bad purchase with another company. He answered all me emails promptly and took all my calls. He was honest with me and I felt complete comfort in his advise. Since then I have purchased a property for investment purposes and I've had no issues whatsoever. And as for his team, they are just honest and comforting. Dealt with Carl Friedel. I've dealt with incompetent people before, but to add a level of unethical behavior on top of incompetence makes for a particularly sour experience. Applied for a house with Carl, then after 3 days of waiting and hearing nothing, I had to reach out to him. At which time he told me that the landlord accepted another application. It's perfectly fine that they accepted another application, but he never even mentioned to me that there was another application in at the time that I paid the $100 dollars for the application process. He may not have a legal obligation to tell me about other applications already submitted, but it's scummy business to let me pay the fee when it is already known that the landlord plans to choose another applicant. On top of that I'm the one one that had to reach out to figure out this news. I must say, I'm jealous of all the people that haven't met Carl. read more

I am writing this review as I feel that I have an obligation to share my experience with this company so that others can make an informed decision about what sort of business arrangement they may be getting themselves into. The following is an opinion based solely on our personal experiences, and the incidents referenced are documented in our personal records. We signed with YLLCO/Rentwell to manage our property very shortly after they purchased Win Realty (the company is from Philadelphia with no ties to Pittsburgh), with whom we had been under contract with, but had yet to have tenants placed. After just over a year of working with them, we have terminated our contract with one month left on our current tenant's lease, and can in no way recommend them to anyone else looking for Property Management in the Pittsburgh area. It has been a near constant struggle to maintain lines of communication (with YLLCO/Rentwell representatives either ignoring or taking unreasonable amounts of time to respond to even the simplest of questions and concerns), they have attempted to alter contract terms after both parties had agreed upon and signed said documents, and we have dealt with multiple accounting errors and erroneous charges that always wound up in the favor of the company. We were willing to deal with these issues initially as we simply wanted our property to be professionally managed, and being absentee owners (we had to relocate after 5 years in Pittsburgh) hindered our ability to deal with these problems face to face. It became clear very quickly that phone conversations were pointless because the company's representatives would say they would deal with our concerns and then would ignore or delay for weeks at a time. Finally we began to use email for all communications in order to maintain a record. The final straw came after a highly questionable plumbing bill and finding out about several lease violations that YLLCO/Rentwell knew about from an inspection that we insisted upon, but which they failed to inform us of. It was only after taking time off of work and driving back to Pittsburgh from New York that I became aware of them. They admitted to finding the violations, neglected to inform us, and were completely unconcerned and nonchalant when I confronted them about it. As a final word, I urge anyone who chooses to use this company to be diligent in reading all documents and checking all financial statements for errors. Insist on making sure all obligations are being fulfilled, because our experience is that they will take advantage of any delays or inattentiveness on the owner's part. read more

I started doing business with this company as they manage a house I am looking to purchase. They are terrible at communicating, returning phone calls, documenting information correctly or even just being polite. They gave me & my agent the run-around for weeks & when we finally received the paperwork we were waiting on - it had inaccurate information on it. I honestly don't know why all the negative remarks. I hired Rob and his team at Rentwell to rent my property for me in Clifton Heights. I live in San Diego. He and his team have done everything they could to get my property rent ready and he literally had a tenant within 2 weeks of posting my house for rent. This is amazing and it's the winter months, so it's a little harder to do this. I would give him 10 stars if i could because he and his team have been amazing. I am so relieved that he is going to manage my property as well. I will check back in a few months to let Yelp know how the managing is going, but he always replies to emails, texts, phone calls asap. I wish I had read the reviews that come up when you search rentwell in google prior to working with them. Carl and Susan Friedel were super unprofessional, did not communicate, when they did they responded with a condescending tone and attitude or another question or completely ignoring my requests. They lied to the tenant saying that I requested no contact. They did not check with me prior giving deposit back to tenant to check the status of the property which by the way the tenant did not deserve full refund of deposit. They should keep their ignorant comments to themselves! They are bullies that will take your money and do almost nothing. If you want to pay people to be assholes and do nothing hire/work with them. And before I get the standard response to the comments here "We have no record of you being a tenant or an owner. Please contact the office directly with any complaints or issues." Do not trust these people with your money. Rentwell has been managing a house we own in Pittsburgh for almost a year. During this period, they never ceased to amaze us with their incompetence, unprofessional behavior and unfortunately, questionable ethics. Here are some example of Rentwell's "management": 1) Rentwell has an apparently modern owner portal, which is supposed to facilitate tracking money transfers, tax payments etc. It is never updated, and you need to call them and ask them to update it if you want to find something there. 2) They constantly misplace names, addresses, and worse - accounts of their clients. On more than one occasion we received erroneous reports, or e-mails with payment request that were not meant for us. On one occasion, they transferred our money to another client. Instead of correcting their mistake, they asked that other client to transfer the money to us. Finally, the worst experience we had with Rentwell, which we believe reflects on this company's way of conducting business, was when they charged us for more than 600$, as a penalty for being late with a payment to a contractor. This was utterly amazing, because they never notified us about this payment in the first place! Moreover, there was money available at our account, so they could just pay it.
