I've lived in a Steiner apartment for four years, and it has been the best experience I've ever had. They truly go over and beyond. The maintenance team immediately fixes any issues that may arise (they take amazing care of their properties, so there aren't really any issues to begin with!), the folks in the office really take their time answering any and all questions, and they truly care about their renters. I moved cross country for the first time in my life, and the folks in the office really made the whole process easy for me. If I could live in this apartment forever, I would. They are super nice, informative, professional, hardworking, and overall outstanding. Even my introverted cats who are scared of everyone except my wife and I LOVE the maintenance team, so that says a lot. Everyone at Steiner Realty truly deserves a raise, in my opinion. I've worked as a Leasing Agent before, so I have extremely high standards- Steiner absolutely went over and beyond my standards in every aspect. The quality of my apartment is outstanding, and I have been absolutely blown away by how amazing my time has been while living here. They keep everything super clean- they even salt the sidewalks and parking lots before any storm, big or tiny. They always answer the phones immediately when you call, and they take their time with you. If someone was in my parking spot, they would have them towed immediately for me. One of my light bulbs went out, and they came and replaced ALL of my lights, and even gave me extra bulbs. They even email you after you get maintenance done to make sure you are happy with the results. They all truly go over and beyond. I could go on and on. word of advice. don't co-sign a lease for anyone with these guys. even if the lease expires and gets renewed they will still hold you to it unless the renter has a credit score of around 650. this is probably fully illegal and never heard of such an arrangement. read more

Pretty shady business practices. Intentionally dragged their feet on a lease signing and muddied up the process so someone else (building owner's son) could swipe the unit, despite being in the process of editing the lease for signature for a unit I already lived in. I lived at Normady Apartments in Shadyside for a year and half from 2021 to 2023. The location is great, safe, near a bus stop, and walking distance from many attractions. The management is really kind. they take care of the building and are very responsive to maintenance issues. The basement laundry is just a single washer and a single dryer, operate by coins, but it does the job. The management also sends email for privacy whenever someone is fixing or cleaning the windows which I applaud them for. Paying rent was easy enough through their website. I really wished I could find another property with them for my current visit but alas. If you have the chance, do not hesitate! read more

Just recently we had our apartment repainted and I must say I am so overjoyed and just over the moon with how great it looks! I have rented from Steiner for about 10 years now and DO NOT recommend them as a company. Steiner Realty and their properties have continued to go downhill in the recent years specifically after the expansion / separation of the properties on the East vs the West. Repairs and updates are rarely made and done with very cheap materials that do not last long or address the actual issue. It often looks worse than it did before. The air conditioning in my particular building is an issue for many of the residents I've encountered in the last few years - my current unit does not get below 79 degrees. I have raised this to Steiner's attention who have told me, "it's not like you pay $1500 dollars for rent. This is the best we can do" - hvac tech. To assist with this issue, I have requested a ceiling fan in my dining room / office but I was told by Steiner that I would need to pay for the materials and time / labor and that the ceiling fan must stay with the unit when I move. They nickel and dime you for everything including raising the rent but not making any (or poor) repairs / updates. This apartment was listed with central air and heat which is not true, even the common areas are extremely warm. I have now purchased my third standalone fan for this unit and consulting with a lawyer to break my lease. Absolutely do not recommend. read more

I've lived in Normandy Apartments for a year now and couldn't have been happier! The building is always clean and quiet, which is very important for me. Maintenance does a great job in promptly responding to any requests within the next day. Management is responsive and is always respectful. Location is great - right on fifth and is walking distance to grocery stores, bars, restaurants on Walnut, etc. Rent is a STEAL for the space you get and location! Steiner Realty is a really good real estate company. I've been living in one of their units in the Eastern suburbs for about 4 years and I've had no complaints. They are prompt to respond to maintenance requests, they have great communication with their tenants, and they have a ton of well maintained properties for a variety of budgets. After the pandemic subsides, I will be looking for a larger space and I plan to stay with this company. I will likely work with them as well when I'm ready to purchase a home! I've been renting from Steiner for a year and a half now. I picked them on the basis of their Yelp reviews. I originally decided to look at just one of their listings, but changed my mind because I was having a hard time finding anything within my budget that suited me. The agent who was scheduled to show me that apartment, Cathy, was more than willing to add on more apartments to our tour. We ended up driving around Swissvale, Edgewood, and Regent Square and seeing at least seven different apartments, including the one I decided to take. I really appreciated her patience and willingness to show me so many properties. Steiner has been absolutely on top of all maintenance issues, usually fixing even minor, non-emergency issues the next business day after I report them. You can pay your rent and make maintenance requests online, and all your lease information is also available online, so you do not have to keep a paper copy. read more

WARNING TO CURRENT TENANTS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED TO MOVE IN TO THURN RUN APARTMENT OR ANY OF STEINER REALTY'S PROPERTY THEY ARE AFTER YOUR DEPOSIT We came here in 2012 and moved out last day of March 2019, only thing I can say is we are so stupid to live in place like that with staff that they have no respect for people live here, Apartments are outdated ,old ,looks so ugly and bugs everywhere , when you look at the kitchen you become so depressed, stove and fridge are so cheap and we never used the dishwasher because it smelled, walls are so disgusting and bugs are with you all the time , during our stays many times we were woken up early morning by knocking our door like you feel Cops are going to break in ( like in movies )but only they have to come in to see where is water leaking in the bathroom or kitchen to apartment downstairs and with those rude and unprofessional staff that we told them number of times that do not come inside with your dirty shoes but they never care and they stepped on our blankets and pillows on the floor and every time we called the office and speak with staff we felt like we are like slave and they are our master no respect at all, we had to be worry about cars because every now and then there were brake in to tenants vehicle, then comes laundry rooms, dirty and you have to share it with others and many times were not even working and we were told that we have to call the vender to come to fix it, during our stay at least in our building no one stayed more than few months, only in apartment next to us we saw at least 8 or more moved out in first few months We lived there 7 years and the reason was we had planned to buy a house and move to our own home so every year we renewed our lease and they never gave us different apartment , we stayed in a same apartment for the whole seven years and when we moved out we were expecting our full deposit but after 3 weeks we received a check that was less than half our initial deposit and a letter ( attached ) I called the office and they told me the place was so filthy and we were not even deserve a penny and they did us a favor , I reminded them about staying 7 years , he said it did not matter, I sent the a email to let them know that I am going online to let current and possible future tenant know what they are facing when they want to move out but they respond with threating me, this is part of the threat : be careful what you say,. And he send me pictures ( attached ) now I really don't know if these people understand what they are saying or not, picture of the 50 years old wall that is kind of falling and paint are gone and also pictures of kitchen cabinet that were outdated when we moved in and bathtub that they always has a water leaking problem what are expecting from us to build new wall or remodel their kitchen or buy new fridge to get our deposit back after 7 years? I have been renting Steiner properties since 2007 and have dealt with everyone in the Edgewood office during this period. I was new to the rental market and was apprehensive taking the "plunge", however, after looking at many apartments in and around Pittsburgh the Steiner property impressed me enough to sign a 3 year lease. Their unit had most of the features I was looking for; I would have been settling if I chose any of the other apartments I viewed. Since I signed my lease in 2007, I moved twice, once into another unit in the same building and then into another property upon the expiration of my lease. I have lived in my apartment building for 13 years before Steiner Realty took it over about a year ago. I had no problems at all until just recently when Steiner took it over. 1). I have had my belongings thrown away out of my bin I had for 13 years that clearly stated my Apartment number which was in large print put on there by the last owners. Steiner offered me a credit of $100.00! When I refused, they attached the credit anyway on their Rent portal. Who puts a low -ass value on someone belongings? 2). I did not receive there lease until a couple days before it had to be turned in (which is illegal). And just 2 days ago, They came in my apartment while I was at work, removed my AC (which I own) out of my window and put it on the floor! They never even told me they would be comming on that day (Dec 21st) so I had no way of being there to monitor the situation. I have no idea why they removed my AC. I own it, (not renting there's) I pay my own electricity. It was in the corner window not bothering anyone and was no threat to anyone because my Window is on a wide Roof covering the front entrance so it had no way of falling on anyone. Plus it was bolted in my window anyway! This was completely unnecessary! I contacted there Staff and all they wanted to do was blame me for these Trival things and just could not understand how disturbed I was by all this (especially in such a short period of time they have been connected to my building). I did not ask for these people, they came in territory I was already occupying! I so miss the other owners because I felt safe in my apartment. They never would enter our apartments and remove anything let along enter it without letting us know. They also were not concern with Trival things like AC's being in our windows! As far as the bin, they would never throw out a person's belongings when the bin was clearly marked with my apartment number and I still rent there. Such things were really wasn't there business especially if the Tenant is paying there own Electricity! But I have a serious problem with them entering my apartment and not notifying me. I feel like I have to be concern when I am not there. I never had to feel that way with any Landlord I rented to a day in my life. Up until now. I read some other reviews of people complaining about the same thing! Finally, This company does not return e-mails, texts and phone call to really adjudicate concerns! How is a Tenant suppose to solve these problems if they ignore your concerns? I am documenting every time I have contacted them so that they cannot say they did not know or understand what the issues is. Every Company is about making money because yes, this is a business. However, Steiner Realty don't understand that Tenants pay to feel safe in there apartment and that a business arrangement is not just about your needs and the hell with the Tenants concern and needs. I lived at Normandy Apartments in Shadyside for almost a year, from August 2013 to May 2014. The apartment has an old feel to it, but it still has all the necessary amenities. Each building had a washer/dryer in the basement. Rent was reasonable. What I liked best was that maintenance issues were handled exceptionally well. I'd either call in with a maintenance request, or file a request online. Either way, it would be taken care of very quickly. I'm giving it 4 stars because there was just one washer and dryer in the building for 8 apartments. Great place to live otherwise! read more

I'm not usually one that does reviews. Steiner has welcomed me to their properties almost a year ago now. From the start, the staff was very friendly and listened to my needs. Since my work schedule was crazy, they accommodated a weekend showing of not one property, but multiple. This shows they go above and beyond to meet their client's needs. Whenever there is an issue, big or small, they take ownership and fix it right away. Fortunately, I haven't had any major issues with the apartment I'm in. I rented an apartment on Ohio River Blvd in Sewickley for 3 years. I had no complaints while I was a tenant. However, after looking for a house for 3 years I finally bought one and had to end my lease early. I moved out on July 31 and someone signed a new lease at the end of August and moved in on September 15. Steiner owed me a deposit of $1100, which was all used up by the rent they charged me for August and half of September. Fair enough, although since I was an excellent tenant for 3 years, they could have given me a break by stopping my rent when a new tenant signed. But the real kicker is that on top of the $1100 plus $64 for the remaining rent, I had to pay $445 as a termination fee. They might say this is for advertising, but they only advertise on their own website. The bottom line is that they made a tidy profit on me since they didn't lose any rent, they now rent the apartment for considerably more per month, and they charged me $445 for nothing. I am 73 and living on Social Security, so $445 would mean a lot more to me than to Steiner Realty. read more

Seriously the worst company to rent from. 6 months ago, I would have raved about this company because myself and my friends didn't have any bad experiences which is so common renting in Pittsburgh. Soon enough, Steiner proved why they are just like the rest of them. All they care about is money. They have the worst cleaning crew, maintenance crew and landscaping crew. Don't even get me started on the office employees and their horrible uppity attitudes. Casey, the owner could care less about his tenants, once again, you are nothing but a dollar sign. I rented with them for two years at an apartment complex in Coraopolis, PA. They purchased the property from the previous landlords a few months after I started my lease. Over the course of those two years, they re-did the parking lot, implemented a pay online system, implemented an (efficient) online maintenance request system, and did a significant amount of insulation work in the building. They also came inspected the whole building somewhat often, and you could write a list of things wrong with your apartment, stick it to the inside of your door, and they would fix it that day or the next. The people at the office were pleasant to talk to on the few occasions I had a question. They also gave me my full security deposit, which is always a worry with renting, and have a fair system in place for terminating a lease early, which I had to do for a work relocation. If I needed to give any downsides, I would say Steiner can be more "diverse" in its choosing of tenants, which has lead to some interesting situations... such as marijuana smells in the building, and a man attacking a vehicle in the parking lot during some kind of love triangle drama. These however were resolved shortly and decisively. The building can also sometimes be on the messier side, but nothing serious. All in all, a great company that offers no-frills renting services. I was very happy to have them as landlords. read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS! They find literally any reason to keep your security deposit. They kept mine and then tried to take me to court for repossession of their property AFTER I HAD ALREADY MOVED OUT!! In addition to claiming that I owed them some ridiculous amount of money for "cleaning" even though I had cleaned the place before I left as well as took pictures, they also showed my apartment until I moved out and attempted to show it literally on the day I was moving. And then when the judge ruled against them stating that I didn't owe them anything because they basically wanted me to pay for the normal wear and tear that they would have had to address before moving the next tenant in, they proceeded to report me to Hunter Warfield, the third party creditor that comes up on your credit as an eviction. Thankfully I had the court documentation stating that I didn't legally owe them anything because that's the only way I was able to remove their charge from my credit. These people are terrible they are looking to profit BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!! And they do not care about the people that they rent their properties to. If you are a person with lower income DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE, they will put you in an even worst predicament! read more

Been renting from Steiner Realty for about 3 years or so. I started in one smaller unit and had some issues with neighbors, but the company was very responsive to issues and did what they can. When I got a change in my income and was finishing grad school, an apartment around the corner I had my eye on opened up and I asked for a tour. They set one up quickly, and were okay with letting me out of my old lease early to move to the new unit. They transferred over my whole security deposit, and were incredibly accommodating especially when the day I moved in, the smoke detector was beeping constantly due to battery dying and with my migraines I couldn't handle it. They came over at their close of hours to take the old one out and put in a new one. Anytime I have had any issues (small issues with their billing system, maintenance requests), they have done all they can to address it quickly and then if necessary revisit it as soon as possible. I have always taken care of my place and paid on time, and they have always treated me very well. I know some people at the old apartment I lived, for instance, did not take care and of course would lose their deposits, etc, but I think they are an honest company and if you do your part as a tenant, they do theirs as a landlord and realtor. I rented one of Steiner's locations in Shadyside for a year, and I was completely satisfied with them the whole time. They are the ideal company to rent from - small enough to care about their tenants as individuals, but large enough to provide plenty of services that smaller companies and solo landlords simply cannot match. While the apartment was a bit pricier than other units in the area, the security and professionalism of their service more than made up for it. At no time in the whole year was I disrespected, misled, or mistreated, even after I told them that I would not be renewing my lease. They have a full-time staff that communicated with me promptly by email and text message, as well as an online portal to auto-pay and to keep track of services. They also have a 24-hour emergency maintenance hotline to help manage the unlikely events that can so easily ruin one's week. The public laundry room was kept clean I had lightbulbs and shower heads replaced within 24 hours of filing a request online (for free!), and I was let back into my apartment after being locked out in less than an hour. Staff members were courteous and proactive about keeping me informed of anything that could have been an inconvenience during my stay. I would strongly recommend Steiner for residents of the Pittsburgh area, especially recent college graduates and young professionals looking for a good balance of affordability and convenience. read more

I have lived at 5th Avenue School Lofts for over a two years now. I have never had a better rental experience (and I am picky!). Every maintenance issue that I have ever had was handled within two days (usually the next day). Management has handled non-routine things such as BUILDING me a room divider for the first studio that I lived in. The building is beautiful with soaring ceilings and arched hallways. The gym is bigger than most gyms that I have seen in apartment buildings and has everything that you need (including a couple televisions) and matted space for at least four people to do mat exercises. There is a bike room, a laundry room (plus washer and dryers in each unit) and a mail area. As long as I rent in Pittsburgh I will be with Steiner Realty. read more

I have been renting with Steiner for 3 months now in their Hidden Pines apartments (Swissvale) and I have enjoyed each interaction I have had with staff. The only complain I do have it with the stairs to get into a apartment building needing replaced and the roads being VERY dangerous during the winter. UPDATED: We had an attempted break in that was not even voiced to management by maintenance worker who received my voice mail. They were not willing to work with us about lease, considering the situation. Since moving to another company and area we have had no issues or complaints for 5 months. Steiner also charged us for re-grouting, which was not damage we caused. read more

I rented in Sewickley. Parking is bad. If you live facing boulevard in front of building A, other apartment tenants next door use the lot and as it is first come, first serve, you end up having to park a block away in rear of buildings and carry groceries in all weather. Also, they decided to keep some of my money for the scheduled inspection when moving out because they did not answer the phone for me to tell them I was working. Even though, I overpaid the last months rent, left early, left it spotless, didnt even hang anything on walls and not to mention they said they never sprayed my apartment when they did and it killed my elderly dog companion with breathing difficulties. People in the building smoke as there is not a no smoking policy and it wreaks in hallways and hard to just open a window without it coming in. Last but not least the poop smell from other apartment would seep through the walls and overpower while just sitting watching TV. The odor was strong. I called more than once on the problem. read more

I can't say enough of great things about this realty company. They combine superb service, from office staff to maintenance and beyond. I have been with Steiner since around 2014, I rented a very cute and quaint studio that was very vintage and very well maintained. Their landscaping is immaculate. I was in a jam when my rental fell through with another realty company and had already gotten out of my lease with Steiner. They graciously worked with me and reassured me everything would be ok. Steiner has terms to get out of your lease if needed that provide several very workable options. I ended up with a beautiful newly remodeled Steiner unit in the East End that blew my mind in how beautiful it is. Same great service in my new unit too. When I met Ben Steiner I was taken aback by his youth. Steiner not only has very well maintained units to rent at affordable prices, they are very attuned to quality whether in the fixtures (Some antique, depending on the unit.)--the units I have seen have a solid quality to them. I am genuinely looking forward to my retirement years renting from Steiner. Steiner maintenance even came by to properly set up our gas dryer when the deliver person and work fell through. Let me start by saying my experience with Steiner was mostly positive. The maintenance team was very attentive and would at least evaluate the issue within 24 hrs. The complex was clean. There was a locked external entry door in addition to your personal door with a deadbolt. I felt secure at 5530 Fifth Ave (Normandy Apts). That being said, Steiner did have one major failure during my time there... One day, I decided to drive home for lunch. It was during the period in which Verizon was wiring all the apartments in our building for fios. Steiner had let us all know via email/text that there would be contractors in the building and a Steiner rep would be with them at all times to ensure the security of our belongings. That sounded good to me. Unfortunately, my and all the other tenants belongings were not secure. You see, in order to wire every apartment for Fios, Verizon needed access to every apartment. Steiner facilitated this by placing the master key to every apartment in the key hole for the corresponding door. When I walked into the building at 12pm, the outside door was propped open so the contractor could access his vehicle, and every apartment had the key placed in the lock. There was not a Steiner rep or verizon contractor to be found. Appalled, I took the key in my apartment door, and went inside. I ate lunch for 45 minutes undisturbed. NOBODY KNEW I TOOK THE KEY AND WAS INSIDE MY APARTMENT. I COULD HAVE STOLEN ANYTHING AND WALKED AWAY. I couldn't even find the workers on the way out to tell them how bad they messed up. Be careful moving here. They clearly are not fully attentive to people's property. It's a shame Steiner decided not to refund my deposit fully, I never would have remembered to write this review. read more

About what you can exspect from a large rental company. I selected my apt because of heat being included. It wasnt until after I moved in I discovered I had no control over my heat and the windows and doors leaked air. Most of the time it was not an issues until we starting getting tempatures in the single digets. Ending up having to get a space heater which ran off the electric I paid for so in the end my heat wasnt included. Other than the heat issues the pace was fine, never had a issue with parking, things breaking, noise, or any other real concerns. Steiner Realty has no respect for personal privacy. They invent excuses to snoop around in your apartment, don't typically announce that they're coming, and don't knock. They've entered my apartment for non-emergency inspections while I was in the shower, while I was changing, while I was sleeping, and while I was working. Most recently, they left a Messy Apartment Notification after I bought a new couch, telling me they'd come back soon to ensure that my apartment satisfied their Standards of Cleanliness. Before that, I was told that because somebody smelled cannabis in the building, we would all be subject to yet another mandatory search. I've contacted their office repeatedly to request that they at least knock before they arrive, but this hasn't led to any change in their behavior. If you value your privacy, Steiner Realty probably isn't the way to go. read more

Having dealt with a Steiner property for several years, I find Steiner only worth one star because the outfit seems to just not care. Their maintenance is poor. Complaints are not addressed. Informing them of safety issues seems to fall on deaf ears. Parking is troublesome and the issue is not dealt with. I really don't know what the management does at Steiner, but they are so aloof & useless, they serve no purpose. They are very, very good at "blowing smoke...." Nothing changes for the better. Out of all the realty/property management businesses I've dealt with, Steiner Realty is substandard. This is the same type of review I placed here in December 2012.
