I brought my 8yo Dell laptop to Reno Computer Fix with charging/battery issues and general sluggishness. Peter performed a precursory diagnostic and identified several issues related to the charging cable, battery and hard drive. After consulting with Peter I decided to replace the charging cable, battery and replace the HDD with an SSD. I received my laptop after a few days and I was amazed at the performance and speed of my 8yo laptop. The startup time went from minutes to seconds (thanks to the new Solid State Drive) After having replaced the battery I was shown the old battery. The old battery was bulging and affecting the touch pad. Needless to say the new battery is working great as well as the touch pad. read more

I had a hard drive issue with my Dell computer, so I bought a new hardrive and brought it to this place to complete the setup/recovery. The cost was quite reasonable especially since they updated it to windows 10, and included an anti-virus, PLUS they can provide any help if needed via remote access. Well, more than a month after, my laptop needed Windows activated??? So I called them and without hesitation, Jeff, was able to get it fixed via remote access. I have been twice now. Tried it the first time because Gus said they did well on his computer. First visit they did take care of the problem but created more problems that showed up at home. But i did not take it back straight away because well, I am stupid and figured I would just put up with it. Second visit came when one of the problems became chronic. This laptop would not detect any wifi, none at all. So I requested they look at it along with checking the keyboard as it from the last visit became bouncy and to see what they did to the sound as there is a buzz.every few minutes. So when I picked it up they said they could find nothing wrong with it. I started asking questions and the answers did not match my usage of the machine. I was then told he was confused because another machine they are working on had a picture of pool on it too. At that point he reduced the fee he was charging, something I never even thought about or mentioned.. So I paid since they had no answers and went home. Ok fine and dandy, but the sound was and is now almost undetectable. It just pissed me off trying to listen to something and not being able to do so. And that resulted in this review. I had a few phone conversation with this place. One of them was because they could not remember who I was, or which laptop I left with them, and what needed to be checked. I did have that conversation with them twice before. It is just like dealing with folks who live in a fog. But no more money will be spent on this machine. New is so much more fun.and far less frustrating. read more

What I really like most about these guys is that they explained to me the perplexed thing a computer is in layman's terms. The customer service was fantastic. I went in there looking for an old laptop, my first real laptop. I'm a little late coming into the century :) I told them I wanted to up my Bible study productivity and so I needed to download software. They sold me on a ThinkPad. It was cheaper than what it would cost take my girlfriend who doesn't exist to Olive Garden a couple weeks in a row. The first time I came here, I had an excellent experience, but this second time was not so good. First, I got a call at 9:30 am saying my computer was ready to pick up. I said "great, I'll come right over. I'll be there in 15-20 mins." For some reason, the person on the phone does not feel that it is necessary to tell me that they are not open yet, but instead just says "see you soon." I get to the shop and realize they are not open for another 15 mins, so I get back into my car and wait. At 10 am, when their sign says they're open, I go to check the door. Locked. I wait outside for 10 minutes before someone comes and unlocks the door. I get my computer and pay, but my charger is not included. Me: "can I get my charger also?" Them: "oh sure, I'll try to find it." They bring out what I guess was the first Dell charger they found and ask "is this it?" It looks right, and it fits, so I say that it must be. I drive back to my work, plug my laptop in and am met with a message telling me that my charger is incorrect and my computer won't turn on. I call them, hoping that they'll come drop off my correct charger because this was their mess up. Instead I get, "come pick it up whenever." I reply that I am already very late to work, to which they reply, "well, come get it whenever you want." So, I waste another hour of my morning and a good amount of gas, driving back to their place, getting my correct charger, and driving back to my work. All and all over an hour and a half was wasted of my morning, and quite a bit of gas, because they couldn't open on time, put a label on the things that I left in their possession, or put in the effort to correct one of their mistakes. read more

I spilled water on my laptop and thought it was completely dry but my charger wouldn't work. I brought in my laptop today (Saturday) with low hopes because I leave for college across the country on Monday. However, Zach was SO helpful and he took apart my computer to see the damage right away. He said that it may be a week before he could fix it but he would start today because I am leaving. I left and he called me an hour later saying that it was fixed! He doused something in alcohol and cleaned it and it's working (almost) normally. The team here is knowledgeable, personable, and down to earth. I HIGHLY recommend them all the time! I had to go there 3 times and each one was quick, inexpensive, and left me raving on them and their customer service. Most of my computer problems that they have helped me with so far were centered around a Windows 8 update that didn't have a true fix (made my laptop act like there was no such thing as wireless unless I restarted my computer several times & basically crossed all my fingers....) We ended up "upgrading" from Windows 8 to Windows 7 and that problem & a few other smaller issues all went away. ;) They also replaced some needed hardware another time. It was extremely quick & MUCH cheaper than I expected. I love the fact that if your computer is still working, you can get into their cue to have it worked on and then bring it in to them the night before they are going to get to your computer. No waiting for a week without your computer just because there is a long waiting line! Plus the cue/wait was shorter than I experienced before, too. They also do not talk down to you if you don't understand something. Once you start talking with them, they seem like you have known them forever. They came highly recommended to me and I now highly recommend them to others. Absolutely the BEST customer service of any computer repair service (or most any other business... as far as that goes) that I have ever used! read more

I started having ridiculous overheating problems with my laptop. Ridiculous as in I couldn't even open more than one tab on Chrome, play Youtube videos or run Photoshop for more than 5 minutes without it either lagging or shutting down (and this was with my laptop cooler fan on!). I figured it was probably due to the laptop's CPU needing more thermal paste, but being that I am not that hardware savvy and didn't trust myself to open my laptop to do repairs without making a mistake, my roommate took me out to a computer shop. Since it was a Saturday, almost all computer shops we looked up on Yelp were closed for the weekend and Best Buy doesn't do thermal paste fixing for liability reasons. And because this was during the summer, where not a lot of places at UNR (including the library) were open for long, I was frustrated trying to find a place to repair my laptop ASAP. Then we found this place. I took my laptop in and when I told Justin the exact problem he immediately verified too that it was indeed a heat paste problem. I felt super bad for asking him to fix my baby on such a short notice, especially since it seems like his shop is a one man show (or two?), but he was extremely cordial and able to deliver despite this. I'll admit it was rather pricy for a heat paste fix, but in the end I really felt I got a 5 star service. Thank you so much Justin! You are amazing. read more

The level of communication at this place is the absolute worst I have ever encountered. New parts were needed for my computer and I was advised of that. They did not however tell me that a deposit was needed to purchase the parts. A day and a half later I'm told, "oh yeah we need a deposit for the parts." So my computer said they're not being worked on because of a lack of communication on their part . The man who sent the text to inform me of the parts needed then proceeded to argue with with me over the phone and attempted to make me sound as though I was the one in the wrong; when it was his lack of communication!! Absolutely horrible, unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate, and I advise anybody reading this to take your computer elsewhere because I'm sure you will receive better customer service AND communication elsewhere. read more

I took my computer there after a hard drive crash. I left it there for a month or so while they attempted to recover some files. They transferred my supposedly recovered data to a new Macbook Air. This was my first attempt at an Apple laptop. I was charged approx. $100.00 for the recovery, for which I exchanged my used Lenovo laptop from which the hard drive was removed. I attempted to move files from the destination folder that was placed on my computer by Reno Computer Fix. After a few sessions moving files and deleting unwanted ones, the entire file with recovered data vanished. Any files recovered were corrupt and unusable. I purchased additional recovery software, but nothing worked. I brought it back to Reno Computer Fix and they were unable to recover anything. My main complaints are that I paid for recovery, gave up my fairly new computer, but got nothing in return. Additionally, a technician asked if I used Apple Time Machine to back up the files. Why didn't they do that when they transferred the recovered data? I did not know about this feature and it was never mentioned during or after the files transfer, but only after they had vanished. I am no damsel in distress, but Dylan is (Southern accent) "mah hero." (Fanning myself.) Ok but seriously, I had this digital manual that I couldn't not for the life of me get signed and sent back to my boss. What should be a 10 minute task took me weeks. Actually, the day I came in (5/24) was 2 months to the DAY that I started working on this manual. I'm not the most tech savvy person, nor am I the most tech challenged. I mean, I can use a can opener and I can log in to Yelp to leave reviews. I use a computer daily and am perfectly competent in the fundamentals. But this was escaping me for some reason. I can't even explain what problem I was having, because if I knew, I probably could have solved it. Something about web pages losing formatting when converted to PDFs, and something else about email attachments? Dylan had me all fixed up in 30 minutes. He analyzed whatever it was that was happening, did whatever he did, and I got the manual signed and sent back to my boss in TWO formats. He was kind and patient the entire time. Very efficient, very pleasant experience. I came all the way from Dayton and it was worth the trip. Next time I have a problem, I'll come again. I had a bad experience at another repair place in Carson City and after that experience, going to Reno Computer Fix was a welcome relief and a shining example of everything a computer repair place should be. My computer kept shorting out and crashing, I took it to a place in Carson since I live there and they charged me $40 for diagnostics. Called me the next day and told me they just needed to update some drivers but that everything was fine. Didn't bother to tell me that was another $50 for those services until I was rang up but I would've been ok if they had actually fixed my computer. They didn't even begin to get to the root of the problem and it happened again a week later. I decided to seek out a better business so I went to see these guys in Reno. Justin and Michelle helped me (I believe...) And were both very nice and laidback. They didn't charge for diagnostics and Michelle even played me a few games of Mortal Kombat on their NES Emulator (which I totally want now) Justin looked inside the computer and could tell what was wrong very quickly, he also could tell this wasn't something he was sure he was going to be able to fix properly. A Friend of the business, Matt with Wolf Pack Computers was in the shop and he offered to step in and take on the project since the issue at hand was one he had handled before. Matt did a great job, explained what was wrong with my computer and how I could avoid it happening again. He fixed the hardware issue, got my computer running and I was a more than satistifed customer. I'm very impressed with everyone at Reno Computer Fix. Even though ultimately they didn't get the final payment for their service in this case (although they have my loyalty for any computer issues from here on out). the fact that they cared more about helping their customer than they did about making a quick sale speaks volumes to me about what kind of business they are. They're thorough, knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and most importantly, Trustworthy. if anyone has occasion to deal with Matt at Wolf Pack Computer I strongly recommend him as well. read more
