I have used Computer Guy throughout the years and never had a problem until this last time. I brought my laptop in because my mouse keeps freezing on my screen or completely disappearing. They charge $75 per 1/2 hour and charged me that amount stating that they removed MacAfee from my computer and that fixed the problem. Once I got home the problem was still there. I called and returned my laptop which they kept for over a week saying it wouldn't do that for them (freezing or disappearing mouse), I picked it up once again, got home and am having the same issue. I called once again and spoke to someone who told me they would speak to the Manager and call me back on Monday (I had called on Friday). Today is the following Thursday and I STILL have not heard from them at all! I think they have really gone downhill. Perhaps because the main guy has now taken on IT Services for businesses leaving us home owned laptop/computer users in the dust. Very unfortunate. I dunno: I knew it would cost a lot, and I could always get my laptop going just enough to make it work. Finally, the dreaded day of death came, but thankfully the Computer Guy was close by. This is a professional, efficient, and very polite group. I was never smirked at or given attitude because I don't really understand computers all that well--in short, people like me are the bread and butter of IT people everywhere. But they were all helpful and considerate and listened to all my concerns with respect. Best of all, my laptop was ready pretty quickly, and the improvements are clear. I called and inquired on their rates, the person I talked to initially said they charged $90 initially to look at the computer and any extra charges they would give me a call. When I arrived to drop off my computer the person at the desk said the person I talked with was miss informed and their rates had gone up. I paid I left the computer, it took several days and they called and said it was ready and they had gone over 15 min. And it would be $7.50. They charged me $37.50. I think they need to better inform their employees on their rates, their hourly rate is $150. read more

"Bathroom break"...I brought 2 computers in for data transfer for a prepaid value of $180. Get a call back that 1 had a bad hard drive and quoted $350 plus parts to make transfer. Declined and pickup up old computer and dropped off storage device for transfer. Asked about a refund or at least a partial, and was told I'd get a call later on from "owners". No call. Returned to pickup completed transfer computer. Initial guy is followed by another person to take over and I again asked for answer on refund and got "ownership". They both left and a 3rd guy came out to tell me my original tech would be out after a "bathroom break". Waited a good while. Called store (while in store), and when a guy picked up I asked for my computer and storage device. He said "bathroom break", yet tech came right out but without storage device. Had to ask. Asked about refund and got "management will be back after lunch", but then switched story to the fact that the computer transfer took longer so it would be more so I could use refund for that". I had to write this update because The Computer Guy has radically changed. They are at a new location and as far as I can tell all the personnel have been replaced. My computer was likely damaged by a bad network card and my BIOS needed to be reset plus I had damaged partitions that needed to be fixed. The Computer Guy was able to reset the BIOS based on the printed manual page that I brought with me but I noticed that they had a problem coming up with a jumper, finally having to take one from a customer's machine. They should have had a pile of spare jumpers so this bothered me. After promising they would be able to work on my computer the same day, it took them about 24 hours before they looked at my computer again. They then said that they had no device capable of handling my NVMe M.2 drives and so all they had left to do was to reinstall Windows and destroy all my data. This is like a plumbing outfit saying they are out of plungers! So first, they had a problem coming up with a jumper and then they failed to have a device capable of reading the new standard for drives. If I was them, I would have run to a computer store and bought such a device before saying something so embarrassing. So I took my computer home and within a couple hours I used two of the *three* devices that I had to read NVMe M.2 drives and then used EaseUS Partition Master to recover one of the partitions of my mirrored drives giving me all my data back. (The devices were the $45 Sabrent USB 3.1 Aluminum Enclosure for M.2 NVMe SSD.) I was unable to boot with this partition but at least I didn't lose any data. Specially, I changed a Dynamic Unallocated Drive to a Basic Unallocated Drive and then I was able to use the Partition Recovery option to recover the nearly 2 TB partition that EaseUS says was "deleted". It is not good that I was able to outperform a team of computer "experts" in restoring my data especially when this is not something I work on except in very rare occasions. read more

2/16/2020 The people at Computer Guy in Reno are fantastic!! Went to Best Buy and they wanted a $550.00 ransom to retrieve my data from my dead hard drive. It took BB a week to let me know and cost me $35.00 to find out. I looked up local computer repairs & found Computer Guy in Reno. Got an immediate response on a Saturday. Only took them about 48 hours to completely retrieve all of my data and the cost was about 1/3 of the Geek Squad. Never going back to BB or GS again! Thanks Computer Guys!! Would NOT recommend this company. Was NOT, a good experience!!! We were VERY specific as to what we needed done. They send Alex over, he spent 3 to 4 hrs at our office. This job for a "professional " takes 2 hrs tops. I got back in the office, it WASNT done. We called them again, they sent back "Alex the professional ". He proceeds to "fix" the issue. We paid him for his 2nd trip. Once I get back to work from being sick, and doing work in the system with my bookkeeper, "Alex the professional " set us up working off 2 different company files!!! All the work we did that week, had to be redone! She was working on one company file, me in another! It took us a week to find out because she was producing invoices that I couldn't see. They send the "professional " out for the 3rd time!!! "This professional " is sent back for the 3rd time... He wasted another 4 hrs of MY TIME.... Asking me 3 times to do a test to make sure it was working. If hes a professional.... why did I do a test invoice, it didn't work, he said ok, "I'll try something else". This happen 2 more times after that.... it FINALLY worked after 3 visits, and 3 tests. Then, THEY HAD THE NERVE TO CHARGE US FOR THE 4HRS OF TIME WE AGAIN WASTED BECAUSE IT WASN'T DONE RIGHT THE FIRST 2 TIMES!!!! We keep telling them that we weren't going to pay the bill. All we were told was that we signed off on it. WHEN I SIGNED, IT DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT CHARGING US AGAIN.... TO FIX WHAT THEY DIDN'T DO THE FIRST 2 TIMES. I told them we wouldn't be paying it, all they did was send over the invoice twice with 2 late fees. We paid them once, no wait, TWICE to do a VERY SPECIFIC job, they didn't do what was agreed upon, and instead of trying to help they just throw it in our face that it was signed, and that "Alex the professional " was the the only one in the office that knows this system, "in and out". I'm pretty much blown away by these guys. I brought in a laptop that had been unresponsive for a little over a year, (I had a new tablet, and had promised myself I'd get it fixed around tax time.) I expected a virus to have been the culprit, but got a call no more than an hour after drop-off that it was instead a faulty hard drive. This would get pricey, I thought. Ended up costing me only $20 more than the original quote, because these guys are awesome and honest, and figured out a way to transfer the info to new hard drive without driving up labor cost. I also assumed it would take at least a week to get the call to pick up my faster, better computer, but instead, I received a phone call the very next morning! Wyatt even added some adhesive to a part of the screen where it was loose in the cover, AND cleaned it up for me! See? Blown away. I chose this business based on yelp reviews and this is why I love yelp. The people that work there are very knowledgeable and patient with the computer illiterate (me). I brought in 3 lab tops with 3 different needs. Years worth of pictures and videos (priceless) are all in 1 place and now I have functioning computers. They updated me daily and made sure every need was met. The people that work there are so nice! Price was fair. $400 for everything I needed. I am Christian by faith but think the whole "Christian" thing is used for the wrong purposes sometimes. I DO believe this is a solid business, and the guys there DO seem to know what they were doing, and they DO have great customer service. Only reason I give 3 stars is due to the fact that my computer was having issue and would not boot all the way up, and after 10 hours of messing with it I decided to come here. After paying my up front "$49.00" diagnostic fee (good price by the way) the guy was simply able to turn on my computer with no issues at all. So literally since then it has worked fine but all he did was "turn on the switch" and for some reason it worked for him, but not for me the previous 10 times. So my computer works just fine, but I think I was just bummed that I paid $49.00 for 1 minute of work. I own my own business and I know that if something simple like that happens I would either count that $49.00 to something else in the future or just make it on the house to encourage a customer to come back when there is a real problem. We had a computer crash- stupid Windows 10-and had to put the rush service on it. And I will tell you, when they say rush, they mean rush. Our computer was being worked on within the first 10 mins they had it, and by the time I got back to the office, which was about 15 mins after I left, I already had a call from them, that they had started on the testing. They wanted to see if I wanted everything backup. Even if I had that done, it wouldn't be an extra charge for the time. We went back and fourth about what passwords when with which program, account, etc, and Christian was sooo helpful and patient. Most of the time that was wasted was because I could get the right log in info! They had to do a re-install of Windows 10, but we were able to keep the most important Programs. I have been using Computer Guy services for years. I don't intend to change. My most recent service involved setting up a new computer. I came in to their shop with a long laundry list of stuff I wanted done. The list was cut in half with a combination of things I could do myself (with their clear instructions) and things they did while I stood there. My bill dropped from nearly $200 down to less than $75 in the first five minutes and they even beat that. I have always received good advice from "we can fix that" to recommendations for a new computer. Service has been excellent and quite fast. Last service was completed within hours! This place, which has since moved to California St has got to be one of the worst businesses I've ever dealt with. Starting with the woman at the front desk who is completely clueless as to what is going on in her shop and ending with an inexperienced team of technicians; this place is a nightmare. When I took in my computer, the technician told me he would call me five days later at the latest. After the sixth day, I heard nothing so I called them. The man who answered the phone repeatedly forgot the name on my order; then told me he'd have the computer ready the following day, which it wasn't. The technician informed me that he had to completely reset my entire computer. I specifically told him to save the music, which he did. Only, he forgot to put it back on. He finally fixed the problem, but only after my fourth trip to the business was everything resolved. I've also had problems connecting to the internet ever since I took the computer back. Something, the technician told me he couldn't help with. Heed my advice: DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT! read more
