I got 3 different quotes for my broken screen on my monitor. The first quote was for $179.00, an estimate in error. I got 2 update phone calls, 2nd estimate was $600. I told them I did not want them to work on my computer and I would pick it up next week. Before I could get my computer, I got a third call and the estimate was $800. and again I told macorama I would pick up my computer after I healed from minor surgery. When I came to pick up my computer after, I requested my deposit back since they did nothing . The employer told me never to come to the store again. I visited to get my MacBook repaired and the customer service was top notch I would recommend this place over any other electronic repair shop unfortunately they don't fix phones even though apple website says they do it's ok I just took the phone to the Apple Store but other then the the employees are extremely friendly nice and honest any questions you have they a answer. I had my computer in for a few days & needed a new hard drive. After I had it home a few days it was very slow & I was having problems. I called Macorama & they had me bring it back it in. They had it for about 10 days or so & practically had to rebuild the whole thing. They never charged me the 2nd time they had it. They are so professional & thorough. They explained the cost to fix my MacBook and also said I might be better off replacing it. They don't sell computers at all. They gave me the name of a reliable online store that sells refurbished computers. It was the same one recommended by a friend. I'll probably never go to the Apple Store again. Thank goodness. Now that Mac-o-rama has taken good care of the wide dead-stripe that was in the display of my trusty MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011), they totally will be getting my first review of anyone in far too long. (Sorry, MT) - Firstly, I used Yelp to find these fine people, whom I had never used before. - Between being my audiobook recording studio, and being my main woking Mac, this MacBook Pro has seen many a year, many a moon, a few hundred coffee shops, and some 30+ audiobook projects. Hell, it even had to emulate winXP on the rare occasion that I needed a MS machine of a certain age for odd jobs. - Several months ago, if you were to picture the screen of my machine in vertical fifths, the second fifth was dead and filled with snow and random stripes. After backing up the MacBookPro two different ways, I crossed town to get the poor thing diagnosed. They were able to determine that (thankfully) it was the display only, and not any of the hard to replace videocards built in to the logic board. One written estimate later, they let me know that it would take a week to get the part in, and I took it home to use it as best I could. Once the part was in, they called me promptly, and after another overnight stay at Mac-o Rama, the repair was completely done, and all was well again. I'm a handy nerd, but some hardware operation are best left to the pros with daily practice. - If your mac needs a fix, upgrade, or brain transplant, I Very Highly recommend Mac-O-Rama! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! If you think this place will be cheaper or quicker than the Apple store, you're wrong. This place will straight up try to rob you. They charged me $75 to run diagnostics which took 48 hours when the apple store did it in 5 minutes for FREE. Then it took two weeks for the battery to even come in & I brought my laptop in the next day. The older lady that works there couldn't figure out how to enter in my credit card information & insisted it was problem on my end & not theirs (it was not-i used it right after that). I had to go to class so I asked if I could just come back tomorrow with a debit card, since by the time I got out of class they would be closed. They said no- If they didn't start fixing my laptop today they would have to send the part back to apple. So I was like Lmao okay guess i'm just going to Apple then & walked out. Now I am so grateful they couldn't figure out how to run my card because the $199 for the part plus another $100 for installation they were gonna charge me ended up being only $125 total at apple. PLUS after I told them my horror story they gave me a $75 discount for their bullish*t diagnostics charge & so I only ended up paying $50!!!! Moral of the story: Don't get ripped off & go straight to apple !!! read more

After posting the previous review, I was contacted by the business owner to re-check my phone to check if the newly faulty 'volume up' button was a result of their repair or not. They were able to see me the following day, though my wait time was around 45 minutes. Not a huge deal, but I don't get a paid lunch break at work, so I had to make this time up later in the day. After the wait, I was told that the 'volume up' button was still faulty, but that my payment for the battery replacement was being refunded. For that, I am grateful. I still stand by my statement that the overall experience felt a little judgmental, like it was irresponsible to seek out a cheap screen replacement, or to be unaware that non-Apple repair shops aren't necessarily using OEM parts. Apple is what it is. People will always pay the money for these products, and will not question the authorized services they require when they inevitably break down. In Reno, your options are the Genius Bar or Mac-O-Rama for such services. I appreciate Mac-O-Rama making an effort with my phone and refunding my payment. I still have a broken button that in my mind, does not seem related to an aftermarket part. However, I am also not an iPhone expert, and my experience with Apple products has taught me that failure is imminent. What I have done with these small fixes along the way is like giving an aging pet a specialized surgery to buy them a few more years. I would still recommend this business over the Apple Store, because that place is the car dealership of phone repairs. Even with mixed feelings about this process, I dealt with real people in a timely manner. Again, just be wary that previous efforts to salvage your phone might not be covered by the Apple gods. read more

This place is absolute garbage. The rude woman insisted that she had the right to charge me 60 dollars for a diagnostic for an obvious keyboard issue that is covered by Apple's Keyboard Service Program for Macbooks. Apple.com had already had me put in my serial number and verified that my model of Macbook is eligible (see below). She explained that she would have to plug my computer in for a diagnostic so Apple could determine whether my computer is eligible. Why do you need to do a software diagnostic for replacing keys? A touch is enough to verify that 2 keys are sticky. And why so insistent that you have the right to charge me for something that is OBVIOUSLY covered? Probably because she's the only authorized service provider in Reno, NV. Do yourself a favor, avoid this unscrupulous business; especially with something as valuable as your personal computing devices. I called Apple and they sent me a box with shipping label for free. No mention of a 60 dollar fee. They said the turn around is 3-5 days. Macorama says turn around would be 3 days just for the "diagnostic." "Apple has determined that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors: Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly Letters or characters do not appear Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service eligible MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro keyboards, free of charge. Have an old Mac (2008) still working great but needed a new back-up drive and some clean up work. I also needed some training to organize my photos from I-photo to photos because Apple changed the photo app and I never got the hang of how to use the new application. I had one-on-one training with Danny. $50.00 per half hour. He was a great teacher. Some techy types don't understand that not everyone a coder or a genius. Prices are not the cheapest but you will get excellent service and they stand behind their work. I plan to use them to help me build my next website. Their building is very clean and professional. Overpriced, with poor service. I didn't enjoy my experience. Each part of the process frustrated me. I took my computer in for a broken USB. The lady at the front desk snapped at me for wanting to fix the problem (broken hardware) instead of working around the problem (USB hub in the remaining, unreliable port). Next, the ran diagnostics, but they never called with the results. I waited three-five days, and I called them. "Oh, we ran that test two days ago," the lady said. Why didn't anyone call me? Poor service. The last straw - price. They wanted to charge $600 for a replacement part, plus $100. I found the same part online for $200. I'd urge you to go elsewhere to service your Mac / Apple products. I called two other places, and I'll likely take my computer to one of those alternatives. Never again, Mac o Rama. read more

They fixed my laptop but I found the customer service disorganized. Particularly, I found the lady who answers the phone to be unprofessional and at times rude. For example, after the initial diagnosis she called me to discuss the repairs. I asked what my total bill at that point was. Instead of answering my question, she responded with 'How much did you pay for your computer?' I eventually asked if I could have a couple days to think about whether I wanted to move forward with the repairs or just buy a new laptop. She said ok. She then called me two business days later and told me the repairs were complete. Very frustrating - but fine. I'm happy my laptop is fixed. She asked when I could come pick my laptop up. I told her my schedule for the next couple days was uncertain and said I would call in a day or two to let her know when I could come by. She responded with "How about tomorrow at 2?" I found this very disrespectful. These types of interactions continued throughout the remainder of the process. I would love to continue to support this business but I never want to have to deal with this type of customer service again. read more

Mac O Rama installed a new ssd drive and doubled my ram on my older Mac and its lightning fast and as good as new. My computer had some weird issues- together we resolved it. If I have a problem in the future with this Mac or a new one, I would go to them. Their prices are fair and the customer service is excellent. read more

Let me count the ways...(OK, I'm creative, but not creative enough to turn this review into a lyrical ode- hope you can appreciate the good humor of my intentions!) I've had my trusty MBP for nearly 8 years now without much of a hiccup in performance (you get what you pay for, if you can afford it). I am not a brand loyalist, but I love my computer so much, I can't see myself ever going back to PC life! I've always been the kind of person who will wait (and save) for the right one, rather than go for what is available at the time...That being said, Apple products are an investment, and I was always anxious about the day I'd have to (eventually) take my baby into the dreaded Genius Bar for surgery, if I could even get an appointment for service! Thank you, Mac-O-Rama, for being a trustworthy, reasonable alternative to the Genius Bar! Booking your appointment is easy-peasy, and appointments are widely available on business days, so long as you book about 48 hours in advance. (Appointment times close up if you narrow this time window.) Need a stat repair? Mac-O-Rama has your back if you can afford the price upgrade (it's not that much). Because I'm finally out of school, I wasn't in a hurry to get my Mac back. It had already gone kaputz, and I was using my Kindle as an alternative as I waited for my paychecks to come in so I could afford to pay for service, which was sure to be pricey. My charges were on point with what I was anticipating to invest, and I was soooooo relieved that my bill was $200-$300 less than my worst-case-scenario prices! I work weekend graves, so I dropped my baby off on a Fri afternoon. If I had been able to drop her off on a Monday, I think my turnaround time would have been faster. Weekends aside, I received my souped-up baby in a reasonable length of time, and the staff was really great about communicating price quotes and additional charges as they arose. Upon reading other Yelp reviews, I wasn't sure if they would apply the diagnostic fee charge to my service charges. I figured they would, but we all know what assumptions make out of U and me...Fortunately, that fee *is* applied to service charges. It would be pretty greedy to me for that to not be the case. Anywho, the service I received from the front of house staff was always knowledgeable and friendly, never misleading. I always received calls regarding price quotes and any additional charges that arose. I never felt like I was being bilked or taken advantage of, all my interactions were on the up-and-up. When my baby was finally home, she was happier than she'd been in many moons. Oftentimes, it costs more to give one's patronage to a local business, but I actually feel like I've saved some money by not going to the Genius Bar...I was able to save my computer for less than I anticipated, and I can't imagine taking my computer elsewhere for service! Wife and I worked with Mac-O-Rama a couple of times throughout last 3 years and referred three friends there. Within our house, I was always the first line of communications, though after our chats, and wife at times picking up hardware, my wife is forcing me to write this heartfelt review with my limited writing skill set, and making sure it's not on her profile :) , Sorry Yelp, you won't see many reviews, too busy. IMPORTANT, the end product is ALWAYS EXCELLENT, I feel pride is taken in finished product however mundane or complicated the project was. BTW, I'm a programmer for a Fortune 500 company (C++, etc.), though never explained thus. As a youth, was trained by the Apple organization to complete many hardware oriented tasks that I used to be paid to complete. Mac-O-Rama's shortcoming is ONLY communications, this a major in a service environment. They have a woman or man named "Cal" and a lady named "Jen." Both have a track record with my network of being rude. I feel like they wish I wanted to argue, it's astonishing. Sadly, "Cal" seems to care, but just not understand. She gets confused by much tech speak, some super common jargon, wastes time, attempts confusing ways to work in the phrase "that being said," it's interesting, my wife and I keep count, that being said, lol... I wish she was properly trained and could listen more, we wouldn't chat 3 times for every task, I don't feel confident when I get off the phone with her. Jen seems to be trained well in consumer service, enunciating, slightly more knowledgeable in tech too, she gets by, though I've discovered that she isn't a tech pro. Our complain related to Jen is that she's clearly going through the motions, has little stock in Mac-O-Rama. I receive much sarcasm from Jenn and not too hidden anger from first communication to last. If I worked next to her in a coworker capacity, I'd expect she was getting ready to quit, begging to get fired. I regret attaching myself to this organization, referring acquaintances (all programmers) ONLY due to communications. My referred friends have defending Cal and Jen's, explaining Mac-O-Rama's strengths, not my goal, I attempted assisting those I respect, those who don't want to crack open their own cpu's. There is one hidden gem, a tech and or customer service team member, Dan I believe, he should train Cal and Jen in professional interactions, because it isn't simply what you say, It's how you say it, some people aren't built for service. Dan has a service pro personality, literally text book. Communications education teaches the basics, that customer service takes patience, knowledge and faking to care (sales to a degree, yay!) The techs at Mac-O-Rama and or Dan build all of the value of Mac-O-Rama that my friends, coworkers, wife and I loved. Again, the positives? The end product is ALWAYS AWESOME and Dan is a communicator. My near future plan to respect my own time and money, I'll call, request Dan or request a tech, or simply go to Apple / do myself. Wonder if that's acceptable. Until sales staff are trained, I'll attempt to skip the "customer service" portion of the interactions and give a researched parts list to a tech. Fixing customer service inadequacies are front end headaches, might take training, money, years, but all business studies show that investing in the "face" of an organization is valuable financially for businesses who plan on staying open for years to come and enables companies to exploit their strengths. I've brought my Macbook Pro into this shop multiple times in the past few years for things such as screen repairs, hard drive replacements & spill clean ups (unfortunately, 2 times in the last 6 weeks) and they are always spot on! Cal, Alicia and the rest of the crew here have always given me top-notch service. They're fast, reliable and up-front about the work it might take to repair your hardware - no funny business. They were even willing to help me over the weekend recently when I had an emergency with my Mac. As an online marketer, my laptop is my tool set, so having them be able to work on my hardware when I needed it most was very clutch. Mac-o-rama is a fantastic company - I was at my wits end after taking my MAC to the Apple Store about a half a dozen times, and they couldn't fix it. Mac-O-Rama resolved ALL of my issues, they were patient in answering questions and everyone who works there is professional and super friendly. They fixed my problems quickly, lent me a battery while they ordered a new one - which was a big part of my problem (the Apple store never even checked my battery life.) I brought my mac in for a factory recalled hard drive replacement, the owner of Mac-O-Rama which is a factory authorized repair business, told me that as long as there were no software issues the replacement would be covered by Apple and I would not be charged. When I went to pick up my computer they charged me $149.00 for labor and Apple pays them for the labor. In order to get my computer back I paid the $149.00. The owner said she needed to change me that since they used my external hard drive which I had backed up through time machine to put it back on the new hard drive, I told her that if I had known that I would have done it myself, I have done it in the past and it is very easy and quick to start the process. I have contacted Apple and filed a complaint since they are an Apple authorized repair business and would encourage anyone who thinks they have been over charged to do so. Apple also said in the notes submitted by Mac-O-Rama they made no mention of charging me for the replacement. I have also filed a dispute with my credit card company as this is clearly a fraudulent charge and I am sure others have had similar experiences and urge others to do so. Tomorrow I will contact the State Attorney Generals Office to file a complaint and also contact the better of Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce and urge others who have had similar problems to do the same. read more

Do you know that Mac o' Rama writes custom software solutions? Our law firm has been using Mac for many years and had used Mac O' Rama over the years for small issues (e.g. to upgrade our server, networking, etc.) and help with other issues as they arose. Over the years, I knew that our firm had been less efficient than it could be because there is no good "from the box" law firm management software available for Mac law firms. When I mentioned our dilemma to Jason, he said he could write one for us. It has been a huge undertaking (perhaps quite larger than Jason or Alicia had anticipated when they took it on) with many phases and I have been very impressed with the talent and professionalism of the owners and the staff. One of the fears one has when engaging a small business for such a huge project is the size of the operation and their ability to follow-through and really "make it happen." While the project did take longer than anyone anticipated, Mac O' Rama has been very committed to us as customers and available whenever we have had any questions, user errors, etc., even though they are a small local business! I would not say that the process has been without issues...every large project has issues...and this has been a very large project indeed, but the customer service at Mac O' Rama could not be better, and that, coupled with the delight of doing business with a local small business, has made our experience with Mac O' Rama a "five star" experience, without a doubt! Very impressed! My son attends UNR and his laptop stopped working because of water damage. There is an Apple certified store on campus, however the water damage voided the warranty and they wanted a whopping $1800 to repair it! I live out of state and began calling the local area repairs and called MacOrama. Jennifer was extremely helpful and gave me the pricing up front with no hidden charges. She was able to repair it for almost half of what UNR wanted. Jennifer also called me to update me on the progress of the repair. My son said their customer service was great and they were "way cool." He was thankful and happy for the repair and said it is basically a new laptop.
