    Moeders Gehaktballen

We went here for dinner on a Tuesday night around 7pm and the restaurant was entirely full. We ordered the Pinot rosé and Bavaria and then the Kabeljaue stampot, moeders gehaktballen, which were hearty and well portioned dinners. Everything was very tasty, however I did unfortunately get food poisoning and believe it was related to the fish.

I went here as part of a tour with about 25 folks. We had a prix fixe menu. I started with a pumpkin soup. It was just ok. The bread was excellent though. Then came a hearty and delicious cod with spinach mashed potatoes. The serving was pretty big. I could only eat half. My tour guide suggested I take it to go. She said the staff at our hotel is nice and can heat the leftovers for me. Then came the apple pie. It's served with whipped cream. I would have preferred ice cream. I wasn't crazy about the apple pie. You have to go down some really steep steps to go to the toilets. Not good for physically challenged folks!

Delicious Authentic Dutch Food!! One place to try all the dutch food in Amsterdam. Great Historical location!!

We enjoyed a very delicious meal here. We had the fish and chips, the green salad, and the Caesar salad. The fish and chips were very light and crispy, and the toppings on the salad were fresh and nicely cooked/seasoned. The only complaint would be that it was hard to get our waitresses attention to get more water and the bill.

If you want to sample a bunch of Dutch specialties, this is a great place for that. Additionally, the location is perfect with lots of outdoor seating situated next to the canals. So lots of people watching and boat watching. Bitterballen: Love those crunchy little balls of deliciousness. They're kinda like bite sized versions of the big croquettes. Love the almost gravy like flowing center mixed with bits of meat. Despite the moisture, the exterior is perfectly crunchy. Together, they're a wonderful pairing of textures. Hollandse Erwtsensoep: Also known as Snert, which might not sound as fancy. Hearty pea soup which is perfect when there's a little chill in the air. Very green with a few odd bits of smoked sausage mixed in. I also liked the side of hearty bread and ham, a good complement to the soup. Lekkerbekjes: While I realize this is a Dutch specialty, it kinda tasted like regular old fish & chips. Still tasty since the fish was flaky and meaty while the coating had a good crunch. Kabeljauw Stamppot: Much more sophisticated than a meatballs or smoked sausage, which are often served with stamppot. The menu said the cod was fried, but it looked nothing like the lekkerbekjes. It wasn't breaded, but it did had browned edges. I think it was better this way as opposed to fried. And that rich butter sauce was perfect on the fish and perfect on the mashed potatoes.

The waiter who served us was one of the nicest humans we have ever met. He was friendly he knew we were tourists and still made sure we felt welcomed and had many conversations with us. He checked in frequently to ensure we were happy and enjoying their recipes. He made this our most happy lunch on vacation. The cafe itself is warm and cozy with nice booths and cuddly corners. The bathroom is downstairs. The kitchen is really fun because the food comes from the kitchen on a little food elevator which was fun to see! The pasta tasted like grandmas pasta. It was good that just makes your heart happy and your belly full. The bitterballen I have never tried before and was pleasantly surprised. It was very savory with a nice mustard dipping sauce. They were hot and crispy and I would eat them again!

Nice outdoor cafe above the canal bridge with an inside restaurant on the corner. Menu was not too big, but they have a good variety of breakfast, lunch, and shareable snack options. We ordered drinks and some tasty Veal bitterballens, which were served hot and crunchy on the outside. Service was friendly and attentive. I had a lovely time watching the busy people around the streets while having a perfect snack outside.

This restaurant is right around the corner from the Waterlooplein market. It was very busy when we went and the tables were close together so expect to sit right next to someone with your legs almost touching. There is a front area and back area. It was busy as I said so it took awhile for our server to get to us and don't expect them to check in on you often like you are used to for American service. They pretty much serve you your food and that's it. I had the lentil soup which was ok but I did add a little salt and pepper. Come with a little piece of bacon and bread in the side as you can see I. The photo. Also had the kaasouffle which was good and I liked that it was smaller pieces and also had the bitter lemon which comes in a bottle. If you order the iced tea then that comes in a bottle also.

I liked this place because the location was great and it was fast! We only stopped for a drink and some cheese sticks but they came out fast and perfect! Our waitress and waiter were really nice and made sure we were satisfied! We didn't see inside but they have a big outside seating area. The prices are great for the area it's in

Noticed the sign "authentic " Dutch Bistro while walking to our hotel, in the center of Amsterdam. We came back for dinner. Ordered a cheese and bread plate as an appetizer, some excellent tasting cheese. For a main course Schnitzel, it comes with a salad and fries. Additionally meatballs with potatoes and veggies. Both meals were excellent and flavorful. The staff were super friendly and speak great English. Highly recommended eating here

Was looking for some traditional Dutch food. Stopped here for lunch. Had the meatballs and potatoes. It was excellent!

Rembrandt van Rijn owned a house nearby from 1639 to 1656. The Rembrandt Museum, cafés & entertainment venues opened around the square.

Very touristic in a bad sense of the word - ugly, loud, no atmosphere, good for a drinking trip, nothing more.

It's not a big space but it's very popular so it's consistently full. This is a great bar so I can see why it's so popular. Don't miss Flying Dutchmen Cocktails in Amsterdam.

He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.

Carlota who answered the doorbell, was able to accommodate us at the bar (our preferred seating anyway). She took our coats, placed them in the coat closet up front and led us inside. Once seated, we were given gorgeous ruby red complimentary aperitif (hibiscus, honey, ginger). The drink menu is interesting, based on the concept of growing up, with more basic tastes to start and more mature complex tastes later on in life. (The drinks are more complex the later in the menu). I ordered the Awake at Last, and my husband ordered the Ruby Stone. Mine was sweet and coffee flavored and his was more tart and sour cherry flavored. When I tried his drink, I immediately felt nostalgic because it reminded me of umeboshi (pickled plum in Japanese food), so we ended up trading drinks. Both were great for supping. Sitting at the bar was fun, watching the bartender at his work. He was silent, focused, skilled, professional. So glad we checked it out! I didn't post pictures of the entrance or inside because I'll leave it to you to discover! (The fun of a speakeasy).

We were going on a boat tour that afternoon, to see all the light installations, so we made sure the timing was right to get to Pulitzer's on time! We had a 6:00 reservation, and got there promptly and found the door that we were to enter. The door was locked, but there was a sign that said 'please wait, someone will be with you soon'. Our wait was very short, and someone promptly came, greeted us and took us to our seats at the bar. Because a reservation, I believe is required, (not 200% about that), we were wondering if it would be a bit stuffy. It was not at all, everyone that we spoke to was very friendly, and great service at the bar. There were other couch settings and a few different set ups, but as usual, we love the bar. Our drinks were fabulous and we tried three of their menu items- only have appetizers, but they were very good. In talking to my sister and her husband, after we returned home, who had just been to Amsterdam, I realized that they stayed at the Pulitzer hotel, which we did not know when we were there. They loved the hotel - so I can give a recommendation for that as well. They said all the rooms are different and they really loved their room. I think everyone would really enjoy a stay at the Pulitzer hotel and definitely get a reservation to Pulitzer's bar- you won't be disappointed.
