Eating in Amsterdam on May 28, 2024, on a cold and windy day. Nobody was eating outside. Had the 8.60 euro Broodje Krokante kip. Food comes in about 6 minutes with 6 slices of cooked crispy lightly breaded chicken breast, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and sweet chili sauce. Should have chosen the whole grain brown bread instead of the white wheat bread to keep my blood sugar level down. Decent serving size for the price, although the sandwich was mostly bread. Wife had the pea pod soup, ideal for the cold windy day, and cold inside the restaurant too. Would I eat here again? Only ate here because it was close to the Rembrandt museum which we were visiting. read more

I had made a reservation since I'd heard it was a popular spot, but I was surprised to find there was no wait when I arrived--the outdoor seating area had quite a bit of people, but there was still plenty of seating inside. The server who helped me was very nice & friendly. I ordered the Hollandse stamppot but asked for a little less of the mashed potatoes since I knew the portions were generous & I wouldn't be able to take leftovers with me. Unfortunately, my order ended up taking about 45 minutes to arrive--it seemed like it was either lost or forgotten. The dish itself was delicious once it came out, but I don't know if I'd say it was worth the wait. I'd consider visiting again, but I'd probably look into other restaurants first. read more

I went here as part of a tour with about 25 folks. We had a prix fixe menu. I started with a pumpkin soup. It was just ok. The bread was excellent though. Then came a hearty and delicious cod with spinach mashed potatoes. The serving was pretty big. I could only eat half. My tour guide suggested I take it to go. She said the staff at our hotel is nice and can heat the leftovers for me. Then came the apple pie. It's served with whipped cream. I would have preferred ice cream. I wasn't crazy about the apple pie. You have to go down some really steep steps to go to the toilets. Not good for physically challenged folks! read more

If you want to sample a bunch of Dutch specialties, this is a great place for that. Additionally, the location is perfect with lots of outdoor seating situated next to the canals. So lots of people watching and boat watching. Bitterballen: Love those crunchy little balls of deliciousness. They're kinda like bite sized versions of the big croquettes. Love the almost gravy like flowing center mixed with bits of meat. Despite the moisture, the exterior is perfectly crunchy. Together, they're a wonderful pairing of textures. Hollandse Erwtsensoep: Also known as Snert, which might not sound as fancy. Hearty pea soup which is perfect when there's a little chill in the air. Very green with a few odd bits of smoked sausage mixed in. I also liked the side of hearty bread and ham, a good complement to the soup. Lekkerbekjes: While I realize this is a Dutch specialty, it kinda tasted like regular old fish & chips. Still tasty since the fish was flaky and meaty while the coating had a good crunch. Kabeljauw Stamppot: Much more sophisticated than a meatballs or smoked sausage, which are often served with stamppot. The menu said the cod was fried, but it looked nothing like the lekkerbekjes. It wasn't breaded, but it did had browned edges. I think it was better this way as opposed to fried. And that rich butter sauce was perfect on the fish and perfect on the mashed potatoes. read more

The waiter who served us was one of the nicest humans we have ever met. He was friendly he knew we were tourists and still made sure we felt welcomed and had many conversations with us. He checked in frequently to ensure we were happy and enjoying their recipes. He made this our most happy lunch on vacation. The cafe itself is warm and cozy with nice booths and cuddly corners. The bathroom is downstairs. The kitchen is really fun because the food comes from the kitchen on a little food elevator which was fun to see! The pasta tasted like grandmas pasta. It was good that just makes your heart happy and your belly full. The bitterballen I have never tried before and was pleasantly surprised. It was very savory with a nice mustard dipping sauce. It was very busy when we went and the tables were close together so expect to sit right next to someone with your legs almost touching. There is a front area and back area. It was busy as I said so it took awhile for our server to get to us and don't expect them to check in on you often like you are used to for American service. They pretty much serve you your food and that's it. I had the lentil soup which was ok but I did add a little salt and pepper. Come with a little piece of bacon and bread in the side as you can see I. The photo. Also had the kaasouffle which was good and I liked that it was smaller pieces and also had the bitter lemon which comes in a bottle. Back in August of 2022, I spent a few precious days in Amsterdam. I went here and had a the Hollandse stamppot, which is the original stamppot - a traditional Dutch dish made from a combination of potatoes mashed with one or several vegetables. IT WAS AMAZING!!! Probably the best thing I ate while I was there. This pot included: mashed potatoes with spinach, Dutch sausage, meatballs (mix of pork and beef) and gravy. Seriously, really yummy. We had Oma's soup, which was Red Pepper on this day, then shared some poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes) and some coffee. Perfect! The simple soup hit the spot. Warm, comforting and delicious. I thought the fish was cooKed perfectly and the frries were crispy (just the way I like them)! I also like the salad with a light vinaigrette. As you can tell from the name this place is, well, next door to Rembrant's former house. Actually, it probably is connected with the house, not that I actually know because I only came here in the morning to grab a coffee before we headed off to the zoo. The bar, or cafe if you wish to call it that, isn't all that spectacular. It is okay, and certainly has a bit of character, but doesn't really have anything that makes it stand out all that much. Mind you, being next to the Rembrandt house probably does do a lot for the place, and the coffee that it served wasn't all that bad. I would suggest eating elsewhere. This place is pretty busy for a place that is as bad as it is. I got the cheese plate. I would rank it as the worst cheese plate I had in Amsterdam. There were just triangles of cheese. It seemed like cheap cheese I could get at the supermarket. It was pretty disappointing. My husband got a chicken sandwich. I did enjoy the baguette the sandwich came in, which saved this meal for me. He loved the chicken. He forgot that mayonnaise comes with everything so he ended up just taking out the chicken and I ate the baguette with the mayo. This place is probably saved by the fact that it is next to the Rembrandt house. I wouldn't waste my time here and go elsewhere. read more

Really nice outdoor indoor restaurant in the middle of Amsterdam, close to Moco museum where I attended a Warhol / Banksy exhibit. Went with the daily Dutch special, a melt in your cod fillet with flavorful cabbage with frites.... It was excellent , first time I was served fact mayo with my fries... We did the mistake and took our lunch there. I had the "Chicken Schnitzel" with pommes frites. The price for it was round about 16 euros. It's too expensive for what you got. In Germany you get a meal like that in a cantine for between 3 to 5 euros. The Pepper Sauce was also instant. The waiters were not very interested in to give you a good feeling. In this case it means: there were waste under the tables for example a fanta can. So save your money or bring it to some other restaurant, but that's just my opinion. read more

The best part of this dinner was the conversation we had with our server. He had relatives in Florida who live about 40 minutes from us. We discussed our country, his original country and his adopted city of Amsterdam. It was nice speaking to a local. The food itself was average and nothing special. By this time we had had it with fries which seem to come with every meal in Amsterdam and Belgium. Too much fried food but we figured we would get back to our normal eating after the trip. The Schnitzel was fried and flat to the point of being hard and crispy;not great. But, we were hungry so we ate it all. We had originally planned on stopping at the Soup location up the street but after seeing the choices and salads they had, we decided to walk a little more and only return there if we did not find anything else (also the soup place had limited seating), The service was OK for Amsterdam but I felt for what we had the price was high at 46+ Euros. Food and everything else in Amsterdam (and most of Europe as a matter of fact) has been hit hard by inflation (nowhere as bad in the US). Nonetheless, this was OK but nothing special as with most of our meals in Amsterdam. There are better choices and now I wish we had stayed at the soup location. read more

This is a very convenient cafe/restaurant for us as it is very close to a hotel where we frequently stay when we visit Amsterdam. The meals are a very reasonable price and there is a great choice of the type of food that we like to eat. On this occasion I had the Dutch pea soup which was very tasty. My partner had the Schnitzel, which is served with chips and salad. There are different choices of food on the specials boards, in addition to the main menu, which are a mix of traditional Dutch and tourist fayre. Other menu choices I would recommend are the sandwiches, particularly the tuna, the cheese with salad and ham & mustard and the pasta is good, too. There is a great choice of beer and soft drinks. You can choose to sit inside or out and many of the outside seats overlook the canal if you want to watch the world go by. The service is very good, however in the warmer, sunny weather it can get very busy. Blankets are provided in the colder weather. I think Rembrandt Corner is well worth a visit. read more

The decor was very trendy and modern, and our waitress and waiter were both very accommodating since we only speak English. Before we started our tour through Amsterdam we had breakfast here. It's situated next to the famous Rembrandt house and museum. The breakfast plates were big but they served only instant tea.
