Grilled Cheese & hamburger
Randy S.

Came into Boca's as a plan B in case another local place was too busy to get into. And are we glad we did. The place is small, as most places in Amsterdam are, approximately 12 tables. Found a table for 4 and not knowing the drill here, I had go ask for English menus. Turns out your get an ordering sheet. Shortly after retrieving an ordering sheet, our server came by to take a drink order. Within no time the drinks were on the table and the orders were placed. We decided to go with onion soup, a burger and a grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was served in a glass, which seemed a bit odd. What was not odd was the soup... it was delicious ! The onion soup tasted like it had cayenne pepper in it. A very interesting twist on onion soup. The sandwiches were also very tasty. Overall, the food was great, and the service was spot on, and friendly. I would definitely recommend Boca's for a lunch spot, and would go back again.

Strawberry and chocolate, Brie and cucumber, chicken Parmesan, steak, jamon and tomato (left to right)

We had the tapas style mini sandwiches (seems to only be available till 4pm, if that's what you're after). 1 Strawberry jam with chocolate shavings - 3.5/5 1 Brie with cucumber 3.5/5 1 Jamon (ham) and tomato with butter 4.5/5 1 Steak 4/5 2 Parmesan chicken 5/5 Shared with my boyfriend for a late lunch. Probably would have ordered a few more if he had known how small they are - I tried to tell him but he didn't listen. He had the steak (tried it, it's alright) and chicken. I had the the Brie, the jamon, and the chicken. We shared the strawberry jam. The seasoning/pickling of the cucumber was divine!!! So was the tomato! The seasoning of the veggies made both those sandwiches what they are. The Parmesan chicken is a must! Delicious! This place is a great spot if you're in the Albert Cuyp market area.

We fancied some good fries/chips and did a search for the best fries in Amsterdam. One place consistently came up, but was closing within 20 minutes, so that was out. This was mentioned a few times, so we figured it was worth checking out as we wanted an excuse to explore the Jordaan area anyway. On a Wednesday at 6:30pm, all the tables were already reserved. We were allowed to sit as long as we were out before 8, which was fine with us. The vibe is casual cafe/bar, and is obviously popular for after-work drinks and large groups of friends. We ordered several small plates including the trio of fries, as well as a beer and wine. Food was OK, fries were decent but nothing special. Basically solid bar food, but it hit the spot and was what we were looking for, and didn't feel painfully expensive. Service seemed very stereotypically Dutch to my foreign brain. Straightforward to the point of being brusque, compared to American over-friendliness. But also efficient and quick, with thoughtful touches that had me convinced that it was a cultural thing rather than anything else. Fairly loud music, a mix of 80s and 90s chart hits and popular hip hop, which I enjoyed. This review is for the Jordaan location, which doesn't seem to be listed on Yelp yet, hopefully we can get it added since reading the reviews it's clear people are going to both branches and reviewing for just the De Pijp location.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!
