There are other options such as the French breakfast that comes with croissant, and the Dutch breakfast -- included ham, cheese, and a boiled egg. Came here because it was literally across the street from where I was staying. Got the Koosje sandwich on a French roll. For being an eponymous sandwich, it was pretty lackluster. From the get go, the employees were very friendly and their service was really good. We didn't order much from here other than the Bitterballen and fries, but those 2 items were pretty good. We had to try Bitterballen since it was one of the must-order items we had seen in articles. Although we weren't huge fans of it, it was still good for what it was, which was a fried ball of meat and dough. For one thing, it was fried perfectly and very hot. As for the fries, they were excellent! In fact, they were quite addictive! I know fries are just fries, but these were some awesome frites, especially with the mayo they provided for dipping. It seemed that most of the customers here were regulars and just relaxing on a typical afternoon. It pretty much set the tone for our trip and a good one at that. read more

I guess the thing about this cafe was that it was across the road from the zoo, so before going into Micropia I decided to stop by here and have a drink. Well, unlike other parts of Europe, they don't necessarily have table service here, namely because nobody yelled at me when I ordered my beer at the bar. However, like a lot of places they have some pretty good drops on tap. They also have outdoor seating, which is also pretty cool, but you do seem to find a lot of that in the Netherlands as well (though it could have something to do with the smoking laws). Our hotel was a few doors down from this wonderful pub so we eventually found ourselves here for a drink and appetizers before setting out for the night. It's right across from the Artis GVB tram station which is great because you can get connected to pretty much anywhere else in town from there. The vibe inside the restaurant was so relaxing in the early evening. Free wifi, good beer, delicious genever, but here is what you should get: You ready? Ok. Here it is: BITTERBALLEN. Holy shit. It has to be one of the best contributions the Dutch have provided to mankind. It's a meat-based, spherical snack that is served with mustard and the perfect thing to eat while drinking. They come out of the kitchen HOT, so be careful. If you haven't had them before, be sure to try them before you leave the country. We didn't have any of the full blown meals, but we did lurk around and saw good stuff being served. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich that included orange juice and a "hot beverage" all for €8. But because I ordered a hot tea they had to bill everything separate. I know the server just started but they could atlease honor the price. It's not my fault that tea was not included. Service was okay, the server came to our table 3 time. We went to this cafe on a recommendation from the place where we were staying. They have a good menu, with many different choices. My wife and I were all set to order and then the waiter brought out one of the most amazing looking hamburgers of all time. We both looked at each other and said "O Yeah". It was so good!! It came with fries. We got a local appetizer which was also very good. We are Americans, and we took a trip to Amsterdam. We found this place just by walking by. (I needed a bathroom, which they had, and they also have free WiFi). Upon arrival, the staff was not extremely inviting, but once we sat down, the waiter was friendly. I got the Koosje sandwich and a cappuccino, while my husband got the "Runderhamburger". I was very satisfied with my sandwich! It was a lot of food for the price, and it was super filling (even being a vegetarian sandwich). My husband was less than happy with the burger, though. Aww I loved this little place. After an afternoon spend at Artis Zoo and Micropia, we headed to Cafe Koosje as it looked like a cool little spot to chill with a beer. And a cool little spot it was! I've noticed that generally everywhere we went in Amsterdam had outstanding customer service. Nothing fake or fickle, no one seemed miserable. It was really nice having someone come to take your order at your seat rather than queuing at the bar! The guy that served us was happy to recommend a nice beer to me, which was nice. I could have stayed here all evening. Another place that I really hope to go to on my next visit. read more

Cozy cafe with nice staff but the food here is consistently average. I've had a salad here (which was pretty, but covered in a very sugary dressing) and an omelette (I've had way better). Overall I feel the food is overpriced, and their wine selection lacking, but it's probably a great place to go for a beer after a day at the zoo. read more

It is right across from the zoo, but away from the hustle and bustle of the center. Vacationing in Amsterdam and this place is right down the street from the Dutch Resistance Museum. We had a nice Panenkoken (Dutch pancake) and an apple desert. Both were very good.
