Even years after the first time I had the Goat cheese and honey sandwich- I literally still dream about it.

I went here because it was close to my AirBnB, because it was close to a bike rental place, and because I was looking for small breweries to check out. The ambience was very cozy and welcoming - the restaurant is right on the Lijnbaansgracht (canal), with an outdoor seating area and a small, homey indoor area. I ended up sitting at the bar and, while the place had only 4 or so beers on tap, they were all quite good! Only one of them was made on site, however. The bartenders/servers were all quite friendly. I ended up going back another night during my trip for some more beer and dinner. I had a salsa burger and fries, both of which met my expectations. read more

De Saloon was a lovely pit stop after a hot walk through Amsterdam. Interior is charming and welcoming. Tiny space, but plenty of outdoor seating with shade. Staff was great! This is another of my favorite places in Leidseplein. I ate and drank here several days a week during the summer and fall. It has a great location off of the busy tourist area. Next to a canal with outdoor seating. Basic menu but good stuff. read more

When we visit Amsterdam, Cafe De Saloon is always a stop on our agenda. It is conveniently located in the Museum district where two streets meet so it's a great destination for people watching. Saloon has great breakfasts including a wide selection of omelettes and an authentic English breakfast. Fast forward to lunch and their panini and salad selection is extensive. For snacks, they have a great selection of local and international from bitterballen and croquettes to buffalo wings. They also have an impressive selection of burgers available here. To note a couple things, they no longer accept American credit cards, so be prepared to pay with cash. It is also quite small inside, so when the weather is bad, it can become very busy and crowded inside. The staff is always wonderful and very helpful. read more

Nice outdoor seating, but the food was very disappointing. This may just be a good place to grab a beer. I ordered the "Magic One" chicken burger -- supposed to come with guacamole and cheddar. It was a compilation of 4 small, frozen chicken patties and 2 Kraft American singles with a thin layer of guacamole. Not one to leave negative reviews, but very disappointed. About 5 minutes walk from Rijksmuseum and 10 minutes from Van Gogh museum, this was an great choice for a quick refueling break! It does not look like much from outside but the inside atmosphere is welcoming. Since the place is tiny, it is not easy to find a table but at least you can still dine at the bar. We ended up having a few beers, smoked salmon sandwich for me and a goat cheese salad for my friend, and wrapped up with a coffee at the end. Friendly staff, good food, and decent prices. Friendliest staff I encountered on my trip to Europe. Food is made with heart and it has all the local feels you can want. Had a tasty mocha and homemade carrot cake. Went back for a perfect lunch sandwich to pair with the fresh/cold local beer. Enjoyed the biggest and delicious farmers omelette. Really great location. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

Spicy chicken panini is great! Note it comes with small salad, we didn't know and ordered a side salad to split. Very nice location, walkable from museums - we were coming from Van Gogh (which was very good). Very good beers too! And reasonable prices, especially compared to city center. Wonderful and Relaxing pub near the Rijksmuseum and the Leidseplein, nice seating outside to "people watch", or you can sit inside, and chat with the staff at the bar. GREAT BEER options on Draft, mostly from local breweries, including local Van Buuren Pilsner, which is a nice and welcomed change from the standard Heineken and Amstel, which is served in most pubs. All the Draft beers are super, great options from from local breweries, nice comfortable atmosphere, attentive service. A nice place to stop for a cold beer, a snack, a well made espresso, some people watching during a break from sightseeing or to start your evening in Amsterdam. Great little place to stop and have a beer. It's located in a great little buildings off the well traveled path. Their menu is rather large for the tiny cooking area! The Spanish platter appetizer is wonderful! Burgers are huge. Inside can get a bit crowded but worth sitting at the bar and looking at all the items they have in the walls. Right now the street is under construction so when the wind blows sand gets in your eyes. We have come to Amsterdam 4 times and we always stop in and say hello! read more

It was raining and a good cup of coffee sounded great on our arrival from America. We landed in a gold mine. We were two of the few in the early, wet morning. The gals working were very helpful! We tried the cheese and bacon pancake, oh my! Wonderful! A great neighborhood bar with a really good menu.
