We had made a reservation to come to Vlaming on Christmas eve. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in. Our table was ready, and we were immediately seated. Menu was delivered and the specials were explained. The menu was fairly limited, but plenty enough. Our server also explained that the mains do not come with any side dishes. We were a group of six and the entire place could have held maybe 15-18 more people. Not a big place, but very cozy. We had some drinks and in no time our food was on the table. I had ordered the seared tuna and my wife had ordered the rump steak. Both were cooked to perfection and both very tasty. We had ordered fries, beet root, and stir fried veggies for appetizers to share. The fries came with a garlic aoli/mayo, that was very tasty. Overall, our service was at Vlaming was impeccable, the food was excellent and the price was in line with what you'd expect. In fact the food was more in line with what you'd expect at fine dining, but with a lower price. I like Vlaming and would go back again ! read more

A quick report on our dinner last night at Vlaming. Located on a restaurant filled street in the Jordan area of Amsterdam. More of a place that locals go to though there were also several tourists last night, including us :). Sat outside on a lovely warm night, started with a beautiful and tasty lentil salad and a creamy rich yellow pepper soup. Both were yummy. The mains were three large pieces of filet of sole and a perfect medium rare duck breast. Both were delicious and good sized portions. We also shared a side of crispy fries which were also very good. Service from the staff at Vlaming was exceptional. Friendly and gave very good advice about the wine and food choices. Had a nice time talking to another family sitting next to us, also from California. Vlaming was an excellent restaurant choice for our first night in Amsterdam. read more

Excellent food. My boyfriend and I actually came here for dinner twice during our trip to Amsterdam. Their food is great quality and tasted amazing. I tried their steak and also one of their seasonal specials-- it had white asparagus, egg and ham. What blew me away was their beans and mushrooms side. After ordering an outstanding bottle of wine from South Africa we started our meal with one of their specials, a pork pate, that was lovely. For our main dishes my fiancé ordered the Hamburger Royale and I ordered the Pork Loin. The burger was HUGE and topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, and a runny fried egg on top of an Italian roll. Somewhat difficult to eat, but very good. The pork loin was served on top of a very tasty truffle sauce, my favorite part of the dish. We ended our meal with the hot chocolate cake that is served with vanilla ice cream. Oh. My. Gosh. I've had my fair share of hot chocolate cakes with gooey, warm chocolate oozing out from the middle...this was no ordinary hot chocolate cake. So amazing. The perfect end to a delicious meal. The restaurant itself is small with dim lighting, perfect for an intimate dinner with friends or a loved ones. Go here for typical "eetcafe" food but then of high quality! Amazing hamburgers (BIG!), thick and juicy steak from black angus cows, fantastic home made french fries, delicious sate, Tuna steak, fresh veggies, and much more. The wines are pretty good as well and there's a nice selection of beers. OH and don't forget the sticky toffee pie, a favorite of many. read more

This place is a true hidden gem! The food is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. The ecofriendly pork loin with truffle sauce was really to die for! So tender and juicy with a tasty sauce. At under 20 € it was a bargain even with no fries included. The sticky bread pudding is not optional for anyone with a sweet toot but a must! We had a great Italian wine to the food for a bout 35 € wich was quite ok. Go here, eat good! You wont regret it. read more

Okay....here is where lack of research can turn into a wonderful surprise. We had decided we wanted to have our last Amsterdam meal and truly Dutch affair. So when we walked by Vlaming we figured it had to at least be Flemish which sounded very interesting......boy were we surprised. Vlaming is Italian from top to bottom and the combination of their quality ingredients and presentation left us impressed and satisfied. First of all we were walk-ins. The restaurant was fully booked however, they were courteous enough to suggest if we could dine and be done in 1 1/2 hours they would accommodate us at a reserved table. We agreed. What came next was some of the best prepared nouveau Italian food we have eaten. We tried the: Carpaccio of Smoked Beef (paper-thin slices that melted in our mouths) Vegetable Risotto with Asparagus (too pretty to eat but we did anyway) Salmon pate (Creamy mixture with lots of character) Special Potatoes with Garlic & Bacon (did I mention garlic & bacon?) This is not an inexpensive restaurant but the price was well worth the experience. We will be back. read more

This is a very very nice place. I was there twice within a week, and both times service, food and atmosphere were nothing but perfect. I don't remember when I experienced such nice and warm-hearted staff like at Vlaming. The Burger was delicious, truly royal! Beer was good, wine and espresso, home made limoncello! Someone at a cocktail bar told us this was his favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. It was OK. Make reservations if you go on a weekend. We called and they got us in early last minute. My parents came here in July on one of the hottest days of the year. We didn't have a reservation, but it did fill up so I would recommend booking one. The food was excellent and the service matched. Our waiter had a fun time translating the specials into English and then to typical American lingo. We started with the soup of the day and the Dutch beef carpaccio and loved both. I had the tuna steak which was a huge and delicious portion. My mom had the black angus steak which she loved, and my dad had the "poultry" special of the day. We went there for some starters, and saw the food of our seat neighbours. Then we chose for leaving starters aside, and ordered the black Angus steak with blue cheese sauce and also a Risotto with Asparagus, which we shared. The wine we were recommended to choose for was called "Viu Manent", very fruity and not too heavy. It perfectly fit to the food, the waitress asked for what we prefer, and gave us proof of her knowledge. The steak was of very good quality, perfectly cooked, and the blue cheese sauce was of discreet but fine taste. The Risotto was cooked with perfect timing, creamy and very tasty, too. We could not get enough, so we ordered (one) desert, the Crème Brulée with Cinamon Icecream on top, which was also manufactured perfectly. Important: reservation definitely necessary. Was looking for a place for dinner that was more local - far away from the touristy area surrounding the res light district. Came across this place, small, lively and looked like a place for locals. The food, the service and the atmosphere were way better than Toscanini, which we ate at later in the week. Toscanini is where you take someone you are trying to impress with how much you are willing to spend. Vlaming is someplace you go for good good food in a relaxed atmosphere. The waiter was funny and friendly. When we asked for another glass of wine he just brought the bottle and didn't stop until he was near the top. The fish dish of the day was so tasty and not too fishy tasting. The molten chocolate desert was to die for. We got out of there for 64€ versus 96€ at Toscanini. read more
