Excellent beer bar. They have a huge variety of beers on tap, lots of delicious Belgians to choose from. They also have 160 plus bottles. There's even a resident cat. Definitely worth a stop by if you love Belgian beers.

Waiting for our beer and food.

Decided to try this place after looking for a place to eat with our teens. They had good reviews and so we walked over. It is a pub, so set your expectations. It's small and cozy and the lights are low for ambiance. We were greeted and seated quickly. The server was friendly and answered our questions with no issues. The husband and I tried several sours (I wish I had take. A pic of what I had because it was tasty!) He had braised pork, I had Fleming stew, one teen had duck and the other a burger. Everything came out hot and was tasty! There was no rush to eat and get out (this is the European way) and we enjoyed what seemed like a lot of locals enjoying the place. That's how we know we've got a good place...when it's full of locals. The highlight was the resident cat, who made an appearance to my and my daughters delight. He ru s the place, as he walks all over the bar and earns his keep probably by keeping the mice away. We would definitely eat her again the next time we are in Amsterdam.

Best beer bar around, excellent selection of beers and great food not just snacks. Best burger I've had in a long time. Great selection of local and regional beers 20+ on tap.

We stopped in, and the service was amazing! Our waitress helped us out a lot and gave good beer recommendations. The bar cat was super nice as well.

Really good food. Lots of different beers. Friendly service. Nice atmosphere. Not too far a walk from the Museumplein. Cafe cat. What's not to like?

It's a five on beer selection alone. Full range of Belgian trappists, saisons, gueuzes, etc. The Westvleteren 12 is arguably one of the rarest, most sought after beers in the world. And it's regularly available. On my visit they also had a rare oak aged La Trappe, the uniquely non-Belgian trappist. Not too far from museumsplein/rijksmuseum, but far enough away to beat the crowd. Had a couple of small appetizers too. Not bad. The shrimp croquette is small in portion but is packed with flavor. And the pomegranate/blue cheese salad was tasty and surprisingly filling. Forget all that though. The drinks are the biggest draw.

We visited to watch some World Cup and enjoy some beer and food. And, the resident cat may have weighed in my decision to go. Cute place. Lots of beer options. Good service. The fondue was quite tasty. Fries with mayo - yum! It was a fun community vibe while watching the match.

Great brewery and place to have a lunch. Our waitress yesterday was outstanding. She was knowledgeable about the beer menu and was very friendly. We ordered a flight and a variety of small snacks. Generous portions and enjoyable lunch!

If you are a beer guy, this is your place. Fantastic selection of beers from around Europe and outside, but of course specializing in the Netherlands and Belgium. Xander (hope I spell it correctly) really knew his stuff when it came to beers of Europe. And they do flights!

What a great spot, close to the Vondelpark, but not too touristy. (Like every tourist, we like to be special and the only ones.) We needed a snack after walking the length of the park, so we wandered over to this sweet little spot. We sat outside (I love all the outdoor seating!), and ordered beer and the smoked fish plate. It was delicious, very calm, and we got to meet the resident cat. Good beer selection, tasty food, nice service.

Make sure you try this locally brewed Triple IPA.

After an amazing meal at Café de Klos, the fellas and I wanted to have a few beers to cap our vacation. I visited Café Gollem on a previous visit to Amsterdam and they informed me that they had three additional locations around Amsterdam, but that Gollem's Proeflokaal was their suggestion for me. The bar was much larger than Café Gollem, but it still retained a welcoming feel. The staff all spoke good English, so that made navigating the extensive beer list much easier. After drinking watered down beer in Africa, I had a strong urge for some locally brewed IPAs. The beers definitely didn't disappoint and nor did the service. The music selection was great and there was even a nice lazy cat wandering around to keep the patrons company. Since this bar was in a working class neighborhood, 90% of the clientele was locals. If I had a place like this back home, I'd definitely be a regular. You'll be missed Gollem's Proeflokaal, but I shall see you again.

20+ on tap. From sweet dubbed to booming trippel. Yeah boy.

A highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. Incredible selection of Belgian ales on tap and in bottle. With a knowledgeable staff willing to talk beer with us moderately informed partakers. Feels like a total local spot. Very few tourists. I felt like the only one. Nice food options as well. There are a few of these around town. Definitely worth seeking this out and making an evening of it.

Take the tram to Overtoom and do a mini crawl at Gollem and Craft & Draft some blocks away on the same street. I can't decide wether I like this Gollem or the teeny weeny Gollem on Ramsteeg better. They are great in different ways. They both offer a great variety of craft beer - this one have a few more though and the venue is bigger. Here we met the most helpful bartender ever!

A good standard Amsterdam pub but the beer selection is fantastic. A wide range of styles that you don't find often at a pub.

The food is actually pretty decent, too - we got some of their bitterballen, as well as a burger and salad.

Upon arrival, a rather cold breeze picked up so I opted to sit inside, near the open door. My drink order was taken pretty quickly, but then getting my food order in took a while. I let them know I was gluten free and offered my paper explaining this in Dutch; at first the server didn't take it but said the kitchen could do it. He came back and said they'd make it without potatoes; I asked if the potatoes could be made plain, and he looked confused. He ended up asking for the paper after all and took it back to the kitchen. A good 30 minutes later, I got my dish - sea bream with some kind of sauce, mangetout, rocket and a side of roasted potatoes. It was alright; nothing amazing but I appreciate the care they our into assuring it was safe for me to eat. I had to ask to get the paper back; it has a greasy handprint now but at least I can continue safely eating for the rest of my trip. Three stars for so-so and slow service and food that wasn't worth the high-ish price.

The lunch menu is definitely reasonably priced and they have a decent selection of beers. I do think coming here has its merits. The wifi is free. It's pretty quiet. So if you want to set up shop here for a bit, maybe order an affordable lunch and linger then this would be a spot to consider, as most other free wifi places near Overtoom or Bilderdijkstraat can get pretty hectic. But here are my warnings: 1. The service was very slow, which I've become accustomed to in the city and I actually like taking my time eating but it was 13h on a Friday afternoon. There's a certain tolerable time frame to get a burger and nachos out. But what really bothered me was that the waitress decided to eat lunch during that time and clearly the priority was feeding herself and preparing her own drinks versus serving our dishes or attending to our order (the restaurant itself had maybe two other patrons at that time). We reminded her that we were still waiting for a drink, she acknowledged, and then prepared herself her own beverage, took a sip, then poured ours. Ugh. 2. The burger looked like a Burger King burger. A Whopper JR to be exact.

So we kept walking and looking at our maps on our phone until we found Bar Spek. The dim lighting did not make it easy to find. We found spots at the bar. The bartender gave us recommendations for a bite and drinks. The atmosphere seemed hip and young. Not a traditional gastropub feel. Benches by the window where people were sitting and enjoying conversation, with tiny mismatched tables around. As we sipped our wines, we enjoyed the meat and cheese plate we ordered, which was large enough for two to share. My friend ordered a beef carpaccio because she just could not say no to that. No matter how much we ate, we didn't seem to make a dent in either one of those plates. As we watched one of the guys behind the bar prepare a cup of hot water with slices of ginger, we both knew what our next order was. We were both suffering from a head cold and needed a nice warm drink before continuing the night. So, smiling at him and pointing at the concoction he is making, I asked if we could have couple of those for a soothing drink! All warmed up and ready to brace the cold outside, we walked out.I had no clue that this would have been my best dining experience in Amsterdam on this trip! Nothing was able to top the quality, the friendliness, the atmosphere and the service!!!
