Great place to try traditional Dutch food! Came in the afternoon on a weekday and was seated immediately! Tried the stamppot zuurkool (mash potato with sausage) and the assorted snacks to try. The portions are very generous. Sausage was flavorful and mash was great as well. Assorted snacks came with fried cheese, fried fish, and bitterballen, served the sauce. We came in with a party of 10 and right away the manager made us feel at home while he moved other customers to accommodate us. The restaurant / pub had an old world vibe to it. The service from the wait staff and bartender was excellent. The food came out hot and all at the same time. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals . After reading all the glowing reviews and since our hotel is in the area, we gave this place a try. There were lots of empty tables at 8pm - not necessarily a good sign. The bartender/server provided excellent service. He was friendly and answered our questions about the menu. We asked what their best dishes were so... Bitterballen: Beef croquettes that are fried and served with mustard on the side. Our server warned us that they were hot. They were extremely hot. I sliced them and steam came out. I left them alone for a few minutes and I still burnt the roof of my mouth. But they were good! 4/5 Ribeye: Comes with salad, fries and mustard with dill. I was not impressed by this piece of meat. It lacked flavor and there's just nothing special about this. 3/5 Chicken Satay: Satay is one of their popular dishes but I guess we weren't high to think this was good. My first trip to Amsterdam was about the time this restaurant first opened and it's been a stop every visit since! I'll give you a hint it's more than 20 years ago, I don't feel like it's been that long! We always like to reserve ahead and to let them know we want mussels, or they might be out! Bread fantastic! I stumbled upon this place while searching for a restaurant with personality and I found it. Sat at the bar. Best service from Timo adorable and efficient. The goat cheese salad was delicious. I visited Stoop & Stoop a few weeks ago for dinner. The restaurant has a cool atmosphere (it vaguely reminded me of an Irish Pub) and our waitress was super friendly and attentive. We each ordered a cocktail to start, I got the Dutch Mule and it was delicious! As an appetizer we ordered the cheese strings, and while they definitely were different from what we're used to, they were tasty and something I'd love to try to replicate at home. I ordered the Stoop & Stoop burger and fries. The burger was fine, but seemed a bit under-seasoned and the onion compote was not my favorite. Overall, if I were back in Amsterdam, I'd give this place another try. read more

My Favourite Amsterdam Restaurant - Stoop and Stoop! I always manage to fit in a visit when i'm in Amsterdam. Its situated on a touristy side road near to the Lively Leidseplein and whilst most of the other restaurants on this street have to tout for customers Stoop and Stoop is always busy. You may need to wait for a table, but be paitient as its well worth it. We always eat Steak and Frites here, the Steaks are always Thick and juicy and cooked to perfection. The Frites (Chips) are tradional and homecooked Belgian style and served with a pot of mayonaisse. Served with a huge Salad wuth a really tasty dressing. I cant remember the exact price of the Meals but I know its great value and you get huge portions! The restaurant is only small, lots of small wooden tables and very traditional Bistro stlye decor. Just writing this makes me want to book a flight to Amsterdam - Just so I can visit Stoop en Stoop one more time!! read more

Stoop Stoop was a great restaurant with friendly staff and good food. There wine selection was very minimal and you may need to make reservations for a table on the weekends. I got The Meats plate which is a combination of some of the meat dishes and it was very good for a gastropub type restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant. read more
