What an incredible gem along the enchanting canals of Amsterdam. This was my girlfriend and I's first dining experience while visiting and we're off to an incredible start. The staff is incredibly attentive as well as being incredibly attractive. Prompt and friendly service. Dimly lit with 90's and early 00's hip hop and r&b. Onto the food... the French cheese with a twist was incredibly with the garlic bread and pickles. We got the bbq platter for two and were pleasantly surprised (as Americans) at the depth of the flavor profiles and attention to complementary flavors. Cannibale Royale was my boyfriend and I first stop on our nine day Amsterdam trip. Once entering the door we were immediately approach by beautiful waitresses. we did not have a reservation so we opted into dining at the bar. I would recommend booking a reservation ahead of time if you want a more intimate experience. We ordered an appetizer which came out with a diabolical twist that was pleasant and fiery. It was very conveniently located and super easy to get into. The friendliness and fun atmosphere make it worth a trip, but not a must-visit. If you're looking for a good meal, it's a little overpriced, but one of the better options around the Museum Quarter area. They serve food until around 11pm. My fiance had the "Le Classique" burger which was pretty good, but large -- a little hard to eat. We also ordered the fries (good, but much thinner than expected). We tried a few different drinks -- the Moscow Mule, Spicy Paloma, and Elderflower spritz. All of them were decently good (7/10) and the food was similar. Overall, I would return and try a few more dishes. **This was the only restaurant we tried in the Netherlands with an automatic tip screen populating after paying. Cannibale Royale is a bar and restaurant specializing in meat (steak, ribs, burgers). I got the L'Exceptionnel steak, which was described as 'cote d'boeuf', and which seemed to be ribeye. Now, I'm from the US, and maybe our steak is just better, but I would say the steak at Cannibale Royale is sort of average. Cooked to the requested temp (medium rare), mostly. A 2-3 bite chunk was undercooked and almost raw, and it wasn't even near the bone. The meat itself had some gristle, more than I would expect from a ribeye steak you'd get in a supermarket (in the US). It's possible though that this is good by European standards. The rest of the experience does make up for a lackluster steak. The bitterbal was interesting to me, since I've never had that. And the place has a nice vibe. Friendly service too. read more

A wonderful evening because of the delicious food and nice service. The burger was juicy and full of flavor. The meat platter was a great taste of everything. Chicken had perfect spices, the brisket was not fatty but so tender. The sausage was very good and I cannot forget the fall off the bone ribs. This restaurant is opened pretty late and it was extremely easy to get a reservation at the last minute which was great! The service was quick to order and get the bill My partner and I got the Le Exceptional (Bone in Ribeye) and the Le Modesto (Flat Iron Steak). Both steaks were cooked incredibly well, I asked for medium rare and got a beautiful steak cooked to exactly that which is quite rare. The steaks were quite good, but could have used a tad more salt to really bring out the flavor a bit more. The flat iron steak was incredibly tender cooked at medium rare, overall I would choose that again As for the sides, the french fries were just ok. They reminded me of the type of skinny fries you could buy from the freezer section, they weren't amazing and they weren't seasoned much at all. Various portion sizes, a variety of sides, and mouthwatering appetizers. They even have great desserts! My favorite is always the l exceptional. It's 600g of pure happiness. The location of this place is "girls in the window row" at the end of a street were girls in the windows are looking for customers. Very normal theme in Amsterdam. I wasn't expecting it this far away from the "Red District". The place is a pub of sorts very crowded and load, food was OK, servers a little aggressive. When you're touristing it up in Amsterdam, it can be hard to find a worthy meal amongst the over-priced restaurants around central station and the Dam. But with the help of Yelp, my hubbie and I hit a meat jackpot. Situated a bit south of the center, Cannibale Royale is just a skip away from a scenic canal and a few red light windows. As soon as we arrived, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly. We posted up outside on an usually warm day in Amsterdam. Good spot for people-watching. I ended up going for the Le Magnifiqué while my better half opted for Le Classique. When our burgers arrived on those oh so trendy wood cutting boards that have invaded European cafes, I was surprised to see they were crafted for height instead of heft. My burger needed a fork and knife for sure. Piles of feta and pickle crowned a delectable, well seasoned petite patty of beef. My husband's burger was a bit larger and topped with bacon. The flavors were superb. My side of fries was a bit small for the four euro price tag. If you want something other than mayo, you'll have to ask for it. They also had a large selection of beers on drafts and a variety of wines. I can't comment on the inside of the restaurant since I never ventured in. But if your peckish on a warm day in Amsterdam, this is a great place to score a bite to eat and enjoy the scenery. read more

The paper towels had cute graphic printing, the utensils had bright wooden handles, and menus were aesthetically fitting. The whole place looked to tell a story. I ordered the ribs while my Mom ordered the lamb with salsa verde. Food came out on wooden carving boards and were very good portions for the price. We shared our dishes and both agreed that the food was delicious. I never imagined lamb could be so tender and would taste so good with salsa verde. At the same time, I was exposed to a different flavor of BBQ as the sauce on the ribs had a very different taste from the sweet American BBQ sauce. Everything was enjoyable and service was great throughout. After our meal, they even brought out hand towels and gave us a sweet sticker with their branding with our check. I would have to agree that the ribs are pretty good - they famously fall off the bone easily. Food in general was just ok, but I did appreciate the ambiance mostly and the reasonable price. One of the most delicious sandwiches I have had in a while! The pulled pork sandwich has a kind of sweet and tangy barbecue sauce on the chunks of nicely charred and smoked pork. Stopped in here on my never ending quest for ribs in Amsterdam based off the reviews of fellow yelpers. I've tried a few of the other hotspots around Amsterdam while on layover for work and decided this would be by next place to hit up. It did NOT disappoint. I came in around 16:30 so they were still operating under their lunch menu--but not to worry, both the lunch and dinner menus has their incredible RIBS. Like someone else said, the sauce they use is more on the molasses side, so if you're expecting the sweet/tangy BBQ found Stateside you might be surprised, but it is finger licking good none-the-less! The staff here are super friendly and welcoming (as I have found is basically the MO of all Dutch people) and I would recommend this to anyone! The decor and atmosphere is cozy and music is great. I can honestly say of all the times I have visited Amsterdam (over a dozen) and of the countless pubs/bars/restaurants I've checked out for ribs, this place is the real deal (even surpassing my previous favorite Café de Klos!) Hi there (late night) carnivores! Are you in De Pijp and you need to bite into something to tame your raging hunger? I suggest this place. But I also always suggest to make a reservation, especially on weekends. During the week it also gets rather busy, but the later hours (pre-kitchen closing) are ok, so just give it a try, and walk in. This is the second location of Cannibale Royale, and I must say, I prefer it to the one close by the Spui. In short the interior is bigger and brighter. Bigger is clearly a win, seeing how many people love this place, and want to come with a group. Brighter, is also a win. While the ambiance is still dimmed in is not almost pitch dark as the other location. Here you have the feeling of warm fire-pit light wooden cabin, with just the right hint of a murderous woodchopper, to create the precise amount of savage to match your order fleshy order. I like the new plating of the steak tartare, it looks a bit bigger. I would, however, like if it would actually come in a bigger size. But I am a fan of steak tartare, so there is almost never enough :D Ribs are good, burgers are good...rather consistent with the standard of their other location. wow, i'm so glad i found this place. it wasn't too far from out hotel, and we were getting hungry and wanted meat, and found this place like a few blocks away. luckily when we went, we found seats at the bar and did not need to wait. i ended up getting beef tartar, dutch bitterballen, and garlic broccoli. don't let the name fool you, but the dutch bitterballen is not bitter at all. its actually amazing. its pork in the shape of balls, and they deep fry it and serve it with mustard. the beef tartar was actually interested. it looked deconstructed, and came with anchovies, capers, onions, and bread. it was really filling and cheap for what we paid. i believe we got 200 grams for like 15 euros. i like the venue and the interior decoration. the people working here are friendly and responsive. when i come back to amsterdam, i will make sure i pay this place another visit. read more

The burgers looked fantastic, too, and seemed to be a very popular menu item. Sides are extra. There's a creepy pic on the menu and silverware bags. Very lively place with inside and outside seating. I should note that there's a coffee shop on the north side of the restaurant, so avoid that side of the sidewalk seating if you don't want to smell "herb." My girlfriend and I visited this place on the first night in Amsterdam and we got lucky and got a seat within 20 minutes after sitting at the bar and having a pickle back shot (I was forced into, but don't regret). We decided to get the garlic bread which was AMAZING! We also got the Steak Tartare which I wasn't too sure but it turned out to be mouth watering. Please don't miss out on the ribs because they literally fell off the bones and melted in my mouth. Figuratively & literally. Excellent food! I had the Le Goat Flatbread which is goat cheese, thyme, honey, rockit greens (spring greens is what we call them in the US usually) and a fancy ham similair to proscuitto. The french fries with the Rosemary salt is DELICIOUS!!! Highly recommend getting the Garlic Bread it comes out piping hot with plenty of butter.
