    dutch stamppot
    Katherine Y.

this restaurant was recommended to us by a hotel we stayed at. it seemed quite popular and there were no available reservations on the saturday evening we came, but we were luckily able to walk in and were seated on a bench table outside with a lovely view of the canal. we ordered the pasta bolognese, the dutch stamp pot with sausage, and a side of the vegetables and the bitterballen. the pasta bolognese was pretty solid! we'd previously never tried bitterballen and it was really unlike anything i've ever had, i didn't expect the inside to be so soft (i don't know how else to describe the texture without it sounding maybe not too good). it was pretty delicious with the mustard on the side! the dutch stamp pot was also a new dish we hadn't tried but have heard about. it kinda reminded me of bangers and mash. the "mash" component, aka the mashed potato and carrots, was unfortunately lacking in flavor. the gravy helped add a bit of flavor but overall, it just tasted very very bland. the sausage was good though. overall, we had a good experience at this restaurant! although dutch food isn't my favorite cuisine, i am glad i gave it a try and im open to trying it again!

    Music we heard

My daughter and I enjoyed the cosy, welcoming atmosphere right away. And soon we were asking Siri to "name that tune" because the music made us smile. (Tino Martin, Jij liet me vallon :) We chose Cafe Sonneveld to try a Dutch comfort dish - stamppot. We opted for the meatball rather than sausage option and both loved it! It's very rich so we had to force ourselves not to finish the large serving. Thanks for a lively memory, Cafe Sonneveld!

    Traditional Dutch Stamppot

Not only one of the best meals, but also one of the best experiences I had during my time in Europe! We wanted to ensure we had a traditional Dutch meal during our visit to Amsterdam. We originally tried to book a reservation at Hap Hmm but they were closed for the holidays, so I was able to find Cafe Sonnevald. I'm so glad I did! I made a reservation online and when we arrived, we were immediately seated. We were greeted by an extremely friendly host who was such a delight. My husband and I got the stamppot with sausage and the spare ribs. Everything was delicious! The spare ribs were so tender and juicy. I loved the mashed potato mixture that came below the crisp sausage in the stamppot. The highlight of this experience was the ambiance! Part way through our meal, the music came on the crowd went wild! But really, the lively atmosphere was such a treat and something you must experience.

I had the spare ribs, which were delicious! They fall cleanly off the bone. Staff served us quickly even with a busy crowd. Not too long of a wait overall. Well priced and value!

The ribs, meat ball and mash.

Absolutely amazing!!! We started with the crochet although we had enjoyed them in several locations in Amsterdam. The wife and I ordered the local beer on tap with the appetizer and then requested a bottle of Primitivo (red wine from Italy) for our main meal we ordered the meatball in potato and carrot smash and the ribs were absolutely perfect. The staff is considerate and professional. I absolutely loved this place. Well done!!!!!!! Ambiance is undeniably warm and inviting. Wish I could give them 6 stars.

What an incredible meal we had here! We wanted to try dutch food and so glad we came here. We ordered the ribs and the stampot and they were both incredible. The ribs were smothered in sauce and fall of the bone tender. The stampot came with mashed potatoes and the meatball was so good. The service was good and the interior was nice.

This place came recommended to us for Dutch food and location in Jordaan. Overall it was good. We walked in early without a reservation to find an already busy restaurant. The hostess was able to squeeze us in but did let us know we only had the table for about 75 minutes. So, that said, make a reservation if you can. The atmosphere was lovely and it seemed popular with locals. Food wise, I wasn't expecting much from Dutch cuisine and it delivered. The ribs and Stempot were recommended so we ordered those. Both were good, neither were great but they were hearty winter meals which was satisfying.

Great food, speedy service, and unique atmosphere. Their bruschetta was the best I've ever had. Incredible frites!

The food here is SPECTACULAR! Next time we come to Amsterdam we will be coming back. I got the meatball and my husband got the ribs and everything was absolutely to die for. Servers continusly checked on us, entertaining our 1 year old along the way! Super fun homely atmosphere and we loved going here!

One of the best meal experiences we had in Amsterdam! We went for dinner, and as with most places in Europe, reservations are a must. Food. For appetizers, the shrimp croquettes and salmon tartare were lovely. They are known for their stampot - mashed potatoes and carrots with a meatball or sausage. We ordered both to try them. The schnitzel had a great breading on it and good flavor. Dessert was an apple pie, that was slightly overdosed with cinnamon. Service was wonderful and with Dutch efficiency. Food came out quickly. Takes cards. Note: Some lovely tables outside by the canal if you're planning on having lunch.

Awesome Dutch cafe in the heart of jaardan district close by the canal cruises near Anne franks house. The owner who is also the head waitress is awesome. The atmosphere is great and the food is tasty and wholesome.

This was our last night in Amsterdam and my teenage daughter wanted dutch food. We came across Sonneveld which turned out to be a great little restaurant. We made an online reservation and were seated right on time. Our server was outgoing and friendly. She pointed us in the direction of the authentic dutch dishes. My teenagers both enjoyed the spare ribs and I enjoyed the Stamppot with sausage. I had the house red which both tasted good and was a good value. For dessert, we shared the Dutch apple pie which was great. The atmosphere was lively. Service was efficient. I highly recommend this place.

We so enjoyed this cafe. Made some new friends, enjoyed Stamppot and their ribs. Would come here again in a heartbeat.

We have heard of Donnies, but have never been so thought this was a good opportunity to try it out. Food: Since we were looking for a light lunch we decided to share the large size of the Kapsalon Kip. The Kapsalon Kip has responsibly raised chicken, hot sauce, garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, jalapeños, cheese and wait for it...french fries! It's definitely big enough for two people and SO DELICIOUS! We kept saying "OMG, this is so good". Drinks: We ordered two ice teas and one beer. If you're a beer lover they have craft beers on their menu. Price: €19.35 Service: Service started out pretty slow when we arrived. No one came to us for 10 minutes and I went outside myself to get the menus off the tables there to see what to order. But once they realised we were there and took our order the service picked up. The waitress in the end was nice and friendly. Ambiance: It was pretty quiet on the Saturday afternoon we were there. The space is very nice and well done. Definitely the nicest doner kabab house I've ever been to. Would I go back? ABSOLUTELY! I'm looking forward to trying other things on their menu.
