Box Sociaal is such a gem! The food was top quality and the drinks were so well crafted. We sat at the bar and got to watch Trudy and Maddie in action, you can tell they truly love what they do. Every cocktail and coffee was made with such care and delicacy. We had the Benny and Jets breakfast sandwich, a matcha latte, American coffee, and even finished with a unique meringue-style cocktail for dessert. One thing to note: they are strict with reservations, so if you miss your time you might not get a table even if you wait. Box Sociaal serves brunch all day which is great for those of us who like to start the day late, but thanks to our jetlag we were able to make it early in the morning. My wife and I ordered The Parmy and The Sweet Hot Chick with a couple of Bloody Oath Sambal Marys for a little boozy brunch action. The Parmy isn't exactly something I'd considered "brunch," but that doesn't matter because it was so good! Very thick cut of perfectly cooked chicken with broiled gooey cheese and zesty marinara made for a very satisfying and delicious bite every time. The greens/salad was a little bitter though, wish it had just another teaspoon of dressing. The Sweet Hot Chick was probably my favorite between the two. You can't beat the classic mix of a syrupy waffle/pancake bite with a bite of fried chicken. The pancake could be a little more moist, but still an awesome dish. Unfortunately we didn't make it inside since we wanted to dine outside, but the service was great and the food was delicious. I found this on the Louis Vuitton Amsterdam guide. It's pretty far from central I took the metro to get here and then walked a bit such a pretty walk. They are very busy it's a popular place but they got the food out quickly. I loved the options they have. They have house made kombucha you can see the jars of it at the bar lol. The only thing was the bread wasn't crispy and I wish it had been they were too busy I felt bad asking to toast it more. Lovely place great hospitality and food. Highly recommend. I was so happy that this place was able to accommodate a large party without a reservation. The service was great and the fried chicken appetizer was spicy and flavorful. Started by two young Aussie entrepreneurs in March, this is their dream come true of creating a really cool place to hang out, in Amsterdam. We absolutely loved it and would come here everyday, if we could. In fact most people that were in here for dinner last night were repeat customers and, it was nice to see in such a brand new place. The place is small with about 40 seats and the layout is really nice. There is seating downstairs and up. There is a big sharing table in the middle and also seats across the bar and windows. The menu is short but had some nice Aussie and Dutch classics with a twist. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We pretty much arrived around 5pm and stayed till closing, it's that kind of a place :-) The cocktails are great and I had the Rijk Way and tasted the fabulous Stroopwaffel Espresso Martini. The bitterballen with mustard was fabulous and the sardine fish special of the day was also excellent. The twice cooked chips with mayo were to die for :-) The stroopwaffel Waffel was also really nice. The wine list is small but contains all natural wines including a nice Orange wine. There are also some micro brews on tap from Amsterdam and a local roastery coffee. It's a sustainable place and they make their own mayo, ketchup, bernaise, pickled beetroot and dried fruit. Gotta agree with so many of the reviewers, the energy level of the staff here is a wonder to see. They move through the floor with ease and a smile no matter how busy. This is a place run by foodies for foodies, without any attitude at all. They get it, they care about what they put in front of you and how it's presented. That all comes through in the end product. We were fortunate enough to eat dinner and brunch at the Sociaal on our last trip to town. The hostees was nice enough to squeeze us in without reservations for dinner our first night in town. Chicken Sandwich was outstanding, frites were crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. The fish special was interestingly prepared and perfectly cooked. Special guest beer was a Gose which was right on for the late summer season. We made reservations for brunch later in the week, and it was absolutely outstanding! The Amsterdam weather doesn't come any nicer than it did that day, and we were fortunate that a sidewalk table opened up for us. The Eggs Benny did not disappoint! The buttermilk muffin is expansive and fully enough to sop up anything that makes it to that level. There was a surprising and inventive schmear of homemade sauerkraut between the bacon and the muffin that really set this plate off. The eggs were the classic deep orange yolk that makes me regret the sad state of US eggs. Perfectly cooked and topped with a spry tangy sauce and fresh chives. However, the winner by a large margin was the pancake. It was to sum it up a "Summer Fruit Pancake Explosion". Each bite was something different. The fruit was perfectly ripe, the pistachio pesto was inventive, unexpected, and was the perfect foil to the sweetness of the berries. Coffee was top notch in a town known for top notch lattes. Great little space wasn't too many people for lunch on weekday but I could see this place getting busy during a weekend or at night. The inside layout looked cool as you'll see in some reviews here.
