It's been there since 1988 and there's always a queue, with good reason. They don't take reservations, but I'd be willing to wait for a spot here. The waitress made sure I was happy with my table and still she gave me an even better option as soon as it became available. I ordered the Eggs Royale: two poached eggs on a hot buttered muffin with smoked salmon, topped with hollandaise sauce, garnished with tons of pea shoots and chives. And a peach tea. Perfect temp, gorgeous to look at, yummy to eat. When I opened the menu, this was the first thing I read: "- We have stopped with Avocados due to their excessive water use (70 litres of applied fresh ground or surface water are required to grow one avocado) and long distance transport issues. Avocados have to travel a long way to get here using fossil fuels all the way. We are using locally grown alternatives. https://sustainablefoodtrust.org/" Dayum!!! I didn't know that. My sweet Dutch friend ordered French toast without the caramel, and she ate every single bite. This is your candidate restaurant for a perfect brunch. And the service is considerate, helpful and fun.

Though the menu described a homemade chai, it didn't seems as such. Give it a whirl and see what YOU think - it may have just been an off day for the staff when we went.
The food is fresh and the cooking is very good. It is very cost-effective in the Netherlands. Smoking is not allowed at outdoor seats. Since it is an online celebrity restaurant, the waiters are very busy. Don't expect occasional service attitude and tone. It has always been very good. If the time is not right, be prepared to queue by the river.

It was a drizzly day in AMS, and I was searching for nourishment after 1.5 days of travel and flights. I stumbled on Greenwoods Singel in a blog post on one of my flights. Turns out that author NAILED IT!!! What a quaint, perfect little setting with absolutely fabulous food and a PHENOMENAL staff!!! It was a pleasure to be served at GS! It was raining, and there was a wait. But they have tents setup outside to keep patrons dry as they wait to please the palate. One thing: If you're lining up to wait, pretend you're standing in the door of the restaurant looking back across the street at the waiting area. The line goes from RIGHT to LEFT, Right being the next group to be seated. Myself and another patron both lined up on the "Right" side, which was wrong... Just ask, they'll be more than happy to help. The pride of Greenwoods was incredible!!!

By the time I left, the line was pretty long. It's a small place along the singel canal. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were super friendly even though they were obviously very busy. Their menu contains a variety of breakfast and brunch items that are available all day, which is nice. They also have more lunch type items. I ordered the Eggs Greenwood which has two poached eggs, avocado, cottage cheese, and flaked almonds on toasted soda bread. I added smoked salmon and I highly recommend that. This was DELICIOUS. Sincerely, probably the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. I also ordered a latte which was tasty. I like that they have a variety of milk options like almond, oat, and coconut to name a few. Service was great and I never felt rushed even though there was a long line of people waiting. Free Wi-Fi too! I will absolutely be returning next time I'm in Amsterdam!

Happening place on a Saturday morning. This was recommended from someone at a store in Edinburgh! Says it was his uncle's, so we thought we try it out! It's a small quaint little place and the line starts on the other side of the street! There were a quite a few people in front of us, but we were eager to stay for the experience. I believe we waited for about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad at all (compared to Los Angeles restaurants). Interior was packed with happy people and when I said small, it's small. We got lucky with a seat near the door. Definitely not ADA compliant to my American folks. We both love the vibe and the food!! Drinks: Cappuccino and Latte Machiato - just as good as a coffee shop! Wild mushroom toast was the perfect choice. Love a good vegetarian dish that has flavor and taste good. The New Amsterdam Benedict was a big heavy, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Food and coffee were hot and delicious with very generous portions. Ordered the English breakfast and Shakshuka both were outstanding. Service was very friendly and welcoming despite our late arrival near closing time. Cosy and warm dining area with a canal view. Bathrooms very clean and modern. Hidden gem !!!! read more

This breakfast will be one I remember for quite some time because it's probably one of the best I've had ever. I came in right after opening on a Thursday and the place only had a few customers. However, come 10am, there was a little bit of a wait so I would try to come earlier. Service is great. Friendly, attentive and accommodating. They take your order fast but if you're not ready, they let you take your time. I ordered a plain latte, but they have plenty to choose from. Be sure to look on the chalkboard to see the specials (coffee and food.) The quality of the coffee is great. This was my first Amsterdam/European latte and it definitely set the bar high. I got the Eggs Greenwoods with smoked salmon. At first I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the hodge podge of items on this plate. I mean cottage cheese, rocket, soda bread, eggs, avocado, balsamic, smoked salmon and more! Seems like it would be bad but I'm glad I gave it a try. Excellent! Just perfectly delicious. It's also a very large portion of food. I didn't have to eat for the rest of the day if I didn't want to. I was positively stuffed after this meal. If you don't get what I did, make sure you get the homemade soda bread. It's downright crave-worthy. read more

Just a phenomenal breakfast in a quieter part of the city with the perfect view of the canal. I had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, with roasted tomato, mushroom and baby salad. It comes with your choice of toast or their homemade soda bread! The meal was obviously healthy and filling, and the smoked salmon was incredibly fresh. It's definitely a lounging place where you take your time drinking your tea, eating your meal and people watching. I sat on the patio, and when it started sprinkling, I appreciated the staff moving swiftly to get the umbrellas up to keep us dry. read more

The pancakes breakfast was perfection and the eggs royals was amazing. TIP! - ask for the soda bread even if not on the menu. You won't regret it! read more

Amazing and best breakfast in Amsterdam! No need to go anywhere else - wow! Wonderful service and amazing Benedict's, the eggs Florentine was epic! Add a side of smoked salmon and boom! Best ever! I really really like this place. Greenwoods was recommended to us by our hotel as being an excellent organic restaurant. After reading reviews and realizing how small and quickly crowded this place gets, my husband and I booked it over there right when it opened. Coming in, I knew I wanted to try the full English breakfast and the salmon lox with their eggs and soda bread. The soda bread was great--- but probably not as great as I had hoped based on reviews. The lox on the other hand was SO rich and fresh. I cant believe how much lox i got for the price. Everything we ordered that day was under 20Euro which is great for the garden district. In regards to the English breakfast--- geez it was huge. It was delicious minus the blood sausage cake thing. Ive had blood sausage before but this one was way too dry. Anyway, would definitely come back for lox+eggs and hopefully high tea one day! read more

Holy sh*t this place. I woke up hangry and opted for a place near our Airbnb. Little did I know we are staying a half block from this magical foodie heaven. Upon arriving we were put on a 40 minute wait list and decided it was worth it... boy was it! Husband ordered the veggie plus bacon. I ordered the scrambled eggs add salmon. We both opted for the homemade soda bread. You all haven't been to Amsterdam until you've eaten Greenwoods soda bread with butter. You know how most places serve hard as a rock butter with toast? This butter was perfectly spreadable. The soda bread tastes like maybe it was just pulled from the oven and sliced to order. The lox were perfectly smoked without being too salty. My husband's plate looked like something Harry Potter might get on diagon alley. Oh and the cappuccino... get the double. We will officially be eating here every morning until we leave, 40 minute wait be damned. read more

My friends and I were looking for top-rated brunch places in Amsterdam during a visit in 2014 and this came up on a number of top 10 lists. The menu was pretty standard for a brunch spot and it didn't have too many offerings but each dish was fantastic. The portions are very generous and the ingredients very fresh. I loved the hollandaise on my Eggs Florentine and my friend really enjoyed his Eggs Greenwood. I really liked the service here as well, they were quick and very friendly. Luckily when we went we didn't have to wait but its fairly normal to be put on a waist list when coming here. The decor is pretty cute and if the weather is good, they have great seating outside right by the Canal! read more
As I approached the restaurant there appeared to be a lot of people outside. I worried he wait would be long. It was not. I was able to get a seat for one in less than two minutes. Immediately I felt the warmth and friendliness of the wait staff. One of the waitresses appeared to be in training. She did a fantastic job and never missed a beat. Her trainers were very helpful. I ordered the Full English Breakfast. It included two eggs made to order (I chose scrambled), black pudding, back on, Cumberland sausage, beans, and hash browns. Everything was delicious. I also ordered "Buddha's Secret Tea". Tastes a lot like peach tea. I enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. I did a lot of research on Yelp before visiting Amsterdam and this place had great reviews so we wanted to try it out, specifically for a traditional high tea. Tip: Reservations are required for traditional high tea. The place is adorable and would be really good for date night since it's really cozy. The outside area has a beautiful seating area and view of the canal. We had reservations for high tea. There was some confusion in the beginning about high tea not being available after the Christmas holiday because they didn't have the ingredients. So they were going to give us brunch for free. Then they determined they did have what they needed to make high tea so we ended up getting it after all!! They comped my cappuccino and gave us a discount on our bill because of the confusion. They were very, very nice about everything. The high tea was really good!! Lots of different sandwiches, scone bread with butter and jam, and three different types of dessert (cheesecake, chocolate cake and carrot cake). Everything was very tasty! The meal also came with unlimited hot tea. I would definitely recommend this place to others. read more

So Greenwoods came recommended to me by several people and it has amazing Yelp reviews. They have two locations in central Amsterdam, the Singel location opens 30 minutes earlier.. I noticed a lot of reviews seemed to say that the wait here gets pretty long, so I showed up around opening time. It's easy to see why there is a wait here as the dining area is quite small and they only have a handful of tables outside. The kitchen is pretty much connected to the dining area making it a very quaint place. The menu here has a variety of fresh breakfast options along with sandwiches and burgers for lunch. While very tempted to try out a Full English breakfast, the Veggie plate included avocado and I love my avocado. Veggie plate came with two eggs, cheese, roasted potatoes, avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans along with your choice of toast. I splurged extra for two slices of bacon as well. I'm not joking when I say this was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Every single item on that plate was amazing, right down to the little vine of fresh tomatoes. The Halloumi cheese was cooked just enough on one side to get a little crispy, and was still warm when I went to eat it. Scrambled eggs nice and fluffy with a bit of chives on top. The potatoes had lots of seasoning and they were roasted spot on to where they were still soft on the inside. The bacon was good, a bit salty and reminded me more of Canadian bacon. To top all that off, their side of toasted soda bread was some of the best tasting bread I've ever had. I love that it was still very warm and melted the butter as you spread it on. Greenwoods provided an amazing meal and was easily the best breakfast I had on my trip to the Netherlands. It was so good, I really wish I had been able to try this place out twice, but I didn't get to try it until my last day here. In addition to having great food, the service was excellent as well. So if you're looking for a great breakfast / lunch place close to central, you've found it at Greenwoods. read more
I first stumbled across Greenwoods Singel in a Yelp search to find traditional high tea in Amsterdam and, after reading the description of their Classic High Tea, I immediately emailed them to make a reservation for my upcoming trip to the continent. On the day of our reservation, my friend and I showed up and gave them our name, but they couldn't find us on the list and they told us they couldn't do the Classic High Tea on such short notice (they require a reservation because there are specific dishes that they serve with the tea and they don't always have everything on hand). I showed them the email confirming my reservation for that day and time, so they reconsidered and told us they could host us after all, but they let us know that they would have to substitute a few dishes that they were missing. This is the first reason I'm giving them five stars - they served us an amazing tea complete with sandwiches and cakes and scones even on short notice. I honestly didn't notice anything amiss, it seemed flawless. The employees were extremely gracious and helpful, especially with the reservation mix-up. They did their best to accommodate us and they did a great job! Plus the food was amazing - plenty of variety, and everything was just delicious! A few days later, we were taking a morning walk and found ourselves in Singel. We were hungry and, remembering the delicious food and great service from tea, we decided to stop in again for some breakfast. I was ecstatic to see a full English breakfast on the menu, so I quickly ordered that with some of their homemade soda bread for toast. This breakfast is another reason they deserve five stars. It was so good! See picture for full details of everything that is included in a full English breakfast and believe me when I say that all of it was to-die-for. The eggs were fluffy, the tomatoes were fresh and roasted just enough, and the homemade soda bread was divine. 10/10 This was a wonderful breakfast. We came here twice in the seven days we spent in Amsterdam, and that should tell you a lot about how we felt about it! This place is recommendation-worthy for sure. They have a lot to offer and you don't want to miss it. I'm definitely looking forward to returning someday! read more

This place is verging on being "too popular", as we were there on a Saturday afternoon and had to squeeze into a pretty overcrowded room; there was constantly a line outside for the entire hour we were there; and the waiters ran around frenzied and clearly stressed out to the max. Then again, what else would you expect from a place that comes up as the top result on Tripadvisor when one googles "Best English Breakfast in Amsterdam?"... I imagine this place would be amazing on a weekday morning not in tourist season. It's kind of made to be relaxing, and that's difficult to achieve in the aforementioned circumstances. Nonetheless, despite all of these annoyances, we managed to have an incredible Saturday brunch here. The food is great (we had the full breakfast - yum, although doesn't come with potatoes?! and the eggs benny - yum yum, but the hollandaise seemed to be out of a can), the prices are great, and the staff both speak English and are very friendly. Oh and they give you a massive pot of tea for two people for €4. So basically this place is great, but try to go on an "off hour" if you can. read more
