    Cardamom buns
    Sara A.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Amsterdam. The coffee is well made and they have an assortment of pastries as well. I liked the cardamom bun, it had a lot of cardamom flavor which may be overwhelming for some. The staff is friendly as well. Line moves quickly and can be busy on weekends and busy hours.

Americano, Skyr and granola with dried fruit

During a recent trip to Amsterdam, I stopped into this coffee shop on two occasions. Both times, I enjoyed an Americano, which was really tasty. During my second visit, I ordered Skyr and granola. It was a bit pricey at almost 10 Euro, so I probably wouldn't order again. The space itself is cute, with seating for maybe 10-15 people. The staff were also very friendly and outgoing. FYI: this is a no laptop/tablet spot, so plan accordingly!

Delicious and strong . Quaint and cute inside. Staff is super nice. Starts getting busy around 12:30 - 13:30.

The cozy space invites you in with tantalizing bakery views and the fresh cinnamon wafting outside. The staff are a super friendly bunch taking great pride in preparing your drinks/food with a lot of tender love and care. The mushroom eggs are drenched in a blanket of butter sauce and wrapped with home made rye bread baked right here. Hearty, delicious and warms my soul. Thank you!!

Simply delightful is all I can say. Yes, we did have to wait quite awhile outside in line, in the rain but the place and food made up for it. I've never had cake quite like that before and the coffee was . Everything we ate was good. Service was a bit chaotic but also very friendly. Everything was clean and the atmosphere was chic. Overall: would definitely be back if we lived nearby.

This is a small coffee shop with a very interesting menu and great coffee. The stuff is very nice and friendly. Deserts are also pretty good. Very popular with locals and worth trying. To be honest things look better than they taste but everything is good.

Amazing coffee and attractive well thought out plates of food. Perhaps to focussed on style and not substance.... still worth a visit though.

As far as coffee goes, this place is my favorite spot in Amsterdam thus far. Recommended to us by a barista friend, we popped in. It was the perfect place to warm up and enjoy a high quality coffee. The staff was really warm and appreciated their attention to detail. Would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for coffee in the Amsterdam area.

Cinnamon bun (kanelbullar?) with ginger-lemon infused tea on a very minimalistic wooden dish.

The place was fully stuffed except for a very cute bar spot - so we would be right next to the stove and the chefs - we actually went to this place because my friend has this connection with Scandinavia. So first I went for a double espresso which was excellent, and had a ginger-lemon infused tea OTS. The menu isn't providing very much options, but they poured the food over with very much love and attention. We both had an oatmeal porridge, which is a usual breakfast in Sweden, so I was told. It was warm and very fresh. I was feeling a little ill, but this food was so comforting and delicious that I ate the entire bowl. The people working there are a real squad. Almost all of them did experience something with Scandinavia as involvement. They're very kind and seemed interested for some good talks while we were enjoying a cinnamon bun. I don't like sweet food at all but this was a gift from the angels. The chef told us they sell over 75 of these on a workday, which is a lot if you ask me for a cute company like this. (Over 200 "kanelbullar" on the weekends!) The interior is very minimalistic. White rustic floors and white concrete/brick walls interspersed with this Swedish pine wood for the furniture. Not only a place where the food and service is great, there's a nice vibe going on too. The people that were inside were either studying, socialising or enjoying their food - alone or together! Recommendation would be a 5/5 if you attach a lot of value to connecting with other cultures and people.

Pretty delicious. Small space, but somehow people managed to find seating on a Monday morning without waiting for too long. Came in solo and got a flatwhite and the eggs/salmon on a bread combo. Flat white was okay (not the best one I've had but still decent) and the food delicious. Would definitely be back!

We came here upon the recommendation of citizenm (hotel) where we were staying. It was super crowded and we were invited to share a table in the back by the clothes, which was no problem. We ordered food from the breakfast menu. The salmon on bread was delightful and the cinnamon roll was sticky and perfect. I lived in Sweden, so I feel like I know what it's supposed to taste like! I loved how the server helped us to determine what coffee we should order by chatting with us and determining what we would like. The service was excellent and I totally felt like a valued customer.

"Full circle"... November 2012, what's that, a yelp burger tour? Interesting, but what's yelp? That night the burger crew tried out the burgers Cafe Kostverloren. I had no idea what I was in for. Later on, I remember describing yelpies as "expat meetup" on acid. . If you've ever sat across from Dennis M. (on cava and calvados) and AJ A. (sober), trust me, you'll understand. After that first yelp encounter, there was no going back and eventually I ended up replacing the expat meetups with yelp event completely. Sure meeting new people was fun. But writing reviews on yelp? Don't know 'bout that. I get more joy from creating stuff rather than critiquing other people's creations. Anyways, I approached writing reviews as an opportunity to practice my writing and post my food pics. Also, I'm not gonna lie, I was searching for those extra likes. With my insatiable hunger for likes, facebook was not enough any more...like me...love me...validate me... Excited, my 1st review. Kostverloren's wild boar burgers. But in my enthusiasm, and much to my brother's amusement, I had mistakenly written wild bear instead of boar. Fast forward 1 year, November 2013 and I've acquired the much coveted elite badge. In order to commemorate this, I met Flip, yelp's bestest CM ever, Jeweetzeluf!, last Friday afternoon for lunch at Scandinavian Embassy. Soso lobie!! We were treated to the full lunch menu, no holding back. The starter included cured wild bear sausage. Yep, you heard me right, and this time I really do mean wild BEAR! By the way, it was a bit weird feeding Java, the cutest sausage house dog with his Mohawk hair lock, pieces of wild bear. Don't know, but to me somehow a wiener dog eating wild bear defies the laws of nature. They sort of have a thing for unusual meats here. Besides wild bear, we sank our teeth into moose and reindeer. And it was all good! Even better, you don't have to feel guilty for eating Mogli, Rudolf the rednose reindeer and Goofy (yep, Goofy is a moose!) because it's all sustainably sourced meat that would've otherwise gone to waste. It's the circle of life... L.O.V.E.D the starter with the cured meats and amazing espresso butter on sourdough and Danish cheese. Also loved the cracker that followed, served with an interesting creamy dollop that tasted like dulce the leche but with a cheesiness to it. I want a bucket of that and a spoon, please! I'm not sure the mushroom soup completely worked. It was light and a bit sour, but perhaps it's because I never had this combination before. I think I was missing the fattiness of cream or crème fraiche. Also, I think the soup lacked some more umami like some truffle. Maybe, even some miso would've been brilliant? I know it sounds weird, but I think might have worked in this soup. Like a hot Scandi Asian fusion. Other than that, very satisfying lunch! And despite the minimalistic Scandinavian interior, it felt really cosy in here. Also, pleasant lighting for making photographs. I kinda regretted not bringing my real camera :( So, after not having shielded away from serving some of Disney's most memorable characters on a wooden platter, who's next ? Mickey? * P.S. If Santa didn't bring you presents this year, you know why...

Why have I waited so long to actually go to the place I was the first to know about??? I saw the Scandinavion Embassy coming for months, followed the renovation and saw the guys painting the place. It veryyy close to my house that's why. And still, when it finally opened there was always an excuse not to go. Now I finally went to have lunch and I'm sooo glad I did. Imagine if I would have waited even longer! The boys here absolutely know their coffee. It is amazing. And the food! Wow, amazing as well. I absolutely loved my Scandinavian style poached eggs. They were like a Swedish version of eggs benedict and instead of Hollandaise sauce there was a sauce made of goat's yoghurt. It was awesome, and the eggs came of this sort of rye bread, so good! The portion was so perfect for me, maybe a little small for a dude but I would recommend you just have a pastry afterwards then. There is much more I want to try. And the menu also changes quite regularly I saw on the FB page, so always a good reason to come back. The prices are not cheap but not very expensive either, especially not when you taste what you get. Worth every euro. The guys are also very friendly and I recommend that you will let them advise you about the food and the coffee to pair with it. This place is a new favorite of mine for sure!

The waiter was super cool and told us to have a seat anywhere we liked and brought us a drink menu. He knew we wanted to eat so at exactly 4:30 he came and took our orders. Through out the meal he was on top of everything and even offered many suggestions! The food was spectacular as well. I had the trio of fries and my friends had other small plates that were all so good! And the sauces that come with the fries, mamma mia! We also shared the Boca's Platter and it was absolutely to die for. Do not pass this up. I repeat, do not pass this up! Between 4 people, the medium was plenty of food. The space itself was also nice. They had outdoor seating for nicer days. We went right when food service began on a Monday afternoon so can't speak to how busy it gets during peak hours. The bruschetta was delicious and if you love blue cheese, get it...it's extremely rich and creamy. The three kinds of fries were solid; curly, sweet potato, and regular with some chili ketchups. The boca platter was HUGE and we got the medium for 4 people. Came with steak, fried shrimp, mackerel potato salad, crostini, and an assortment of cheeses and some pepperoni. Last but not least...my favorite...the tartare. The quail egg was delicately placed atop the center of the meat and placed alongside the four little crostini on the plate. It was juicy and had so much flavor, a little spicy but not an overwhelming amount of chili spice. This meal reminded me of tapas in Madrid; definitely stop by bocas and get everything!

After waiting to be seated, our hostess guided us upstairs to the third floor, where they have several more dining tables and cozy couches that you can sit on while you enjoy your coffee. My parents, having visited this cafe before during their last trip to Amsterdam, raved about this place and suggested that I try their famous coconut coffee. All three of us ordered their coconut coffee, with my dad adding an espresso shot to his own so that he could stay awake for the rest of the night. Once I reached that first sip, OMG. SO DELICIOUS. How can I make my own coconut coffee back at home?! I loved it so much that I really want to make a copycat of it. The straws are also bendable, which really makes it handy if you need to lower your straw a bit. If I could, I would get on a plane to Amsterdam just to come back for their coconut coffee. That's how delicious it is! Local or tourist, I strongly suggest Coffee & Coconuts. You will not regret coming here at all!
