Totally worth it! The cookie here is super decadent. I love that ooey gooey flavor and it was just amazing overall! It either comes in a box or their signatures blue tin which I believe is extra. The line may look long but it goes by fast. The staff here are very friendly and patient. Definitely worth coming back for!
I had to return here on my second trip to Amsterdam because it was so good the first time. When I knew I was coming back I'd been dreaming of this cookie. I finally made this my last stop on my trip because I wanted to take a 6 pack home with me. For 18 euros, I got one 6 pack in a paper box as well as one single cookie. The wait was out the door when I got there, but went super quickly. I was in and out within 5-7 minutes. Can't wait to come back again!
Stroopwafels are a must when in Amsterdam. I'm gonna be honest, you can get them anywhere and they're great, fresh or not. The ones here are lovely and iconic and the toppings are so much fun. I only waited about 10 minutes. They do one thing, and they do it perfectly: a dark chocolate cookie with a gooey white chocolate core. The texture is the gold standard--soft and chewy, yet it still has enough "snap" to give you those perfect crumbs. Since they bake them around the clock, you get them warm, which is the absolute best way to eat them. At €3 per cookie, it's a bit of a splurge, but 100% worth it. If you want a box, it's 6 for €15. I visited on the hottest day of the week, so there was no line! Once you walk inside the store, the smell of buttery goodness hits you! The interior of the store is crafted with beautiful wood. All the workers also wear a baker's uniform. I was greeted with a warm smile from the worker. You can also buy only 13 cookies per person. I bought a box of cookies to take home and some cookies to eat while in Amsterdam. The cookies were nicely and delicately packaged in a tin box. I felt like I was watching a luxury purse get packaged! When I came back home to America, the cookies were still in tact. I could tell that this double chocolate cookie was going to taste delicious, based off the smell. It radiated buttery goodness. One bite of the cookie transfered you to the depths of dark chocolate richness. Once you got halfway, the white chocolate melted in your mouth. I could only eat half of the cookie since it was so rich. I definitely recommend visiting this scrumptious cookie shop in Amsterdam!

When we arrived, the line was super long--but it moved really fast. It was actually fun watching the cookie makers through the window as they molded the dough by hand and pressed chunks of white chocolate into the center. Kind of like the see-through kitchen you see at Din Tai Fung, if you know what I mean. The cookies were warm, chewy, and definitely tasty. But honestly, they didn't blow my mind. If I bake cookies at home and eat them fresh out of the oven, they're also warm and chewy--so this didn't feel too different. Still, it was fun to try once and worth the experience. Four cookies cost €12--not exactly cheap--but the packaging is cute, and the shop itself has a great vibe. Overall, glad we tried it, but I probably wouldn't go back.

Sign outside said they sell cookies opening until sold out. They were apparently low on cookies, people allowed in one at a time per register towards 5:50pm. I waited ~20 min in line and got 2 cookies. I'd say about 10-15 people in line did not get cookies, but your mileage may vary depending on the day! Cookie itself is it warm, gooey, with 2-3 types of melted chocolate inside (dark, milky, malted white). Definitely sweet but not overpowering. Overall, would not get again. Very overhyped !

I had never heard of Van Stapele, but now I am pretty sure that I have had the best chocolate cookie in existence. My friends, they come out warm. A crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside chocolate cookie surrounds a melting white chocolate center. This is what would happen if the best double chocolate cookie had a baby with a white sheep of the family chocolate lava cake, but better than you're imagining. A view into the space where workers prepare the cookies, plus a fun marble drop machine in the other window, add a touch of whimsy and some interest while you're waiting in line. Don't worry--it's not a long line. These folks are light yeast and ever so pleasant. Heads up that there's a per-customer limit, but you'll be very happy indeed with just one or two. Don't miss these cookies. Take an overnight layover the next time you fly through Amsterdam, and grab some cookies while you are between museums.

There was a line out the door so you know it's good - but thankfully the line goes by quick! We wanted to bring some back home from our trip but unfortunately the cookies don't seem to last too long since they're freshly baked. We tried one on the spot and we thought the cookie was really good and wasn't overly sweet.

The place has a high end decor that I loved. The customer service was great and very quick as well. The chocolate cookies are 3 Euros each or you can get six cookies together for 15 Euros. The beautiful tins they sell are 5 Euros and they hold 8 cookies. I bought two cookies and I wasn't disappointed. The cookies lived up to the hype. I will say that they make the best chocolate cookies I ever had the pleasure of eating. The white chocolate in the middle of the cookie is a nice touch. Definitely get one of those delicious chocolate cookies if you are in Amsterdam and just know that it's worth the short wait.

Amazing flavor cookie shop. It has an amazing chocolatey outside with a melting gooey white chocolate inside. Every bite is delicious and unforgettable. I wish I bought some to bring back to NYC. Will definitely try to make dupes of these delicious gooey soft cookies. Service is fast, grab and go. They fill your order while you're paying. Inside is very factory like. Line to order and grab and go. But I loved watching them making the cookies through the windows. Very cute experience and cookies were delicious. read more
I can see why this place is so popular. There was a small line to the door when I arrived but it moved quickly. Definitely worth it if the line isn't crazy long. There are glass windows where you can watch people making the cookies fresh while you're moving through the line. The cookie is decadent, soft, & warm when given to you. Okay... I get the hype now Van Stapele Koekmakerij only sells ONE cookie and they absolutely perfected it. It's a dark chocolate cookie with a soft white chocolate filling inside, and it's honestly one of the best cookies I've had. Crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and super rich without being overly sweet. Yes, there's usually a line -- but it moves pretty fast. Totally worth the wait. I went during a busy time and it was still organized and smooth. The cookie was warm and fresh which made it even better. It's affordable and such a fun, quick stop while walking around the city. Since our first visit to the Netherlands, we had been trying to get a taste of these cookie wonders, but we arrived too late and they had already sold out. They bake fresh cookies throughout the day, and once the final batch is gone, that's it -- you're left sad and frustrated, just like we were that first time. This time, we planned ahead and made sure to arrive earlier. We bought some to enjoy right away and some to take back home. Even with my expectations sky-high, they met and completely surpassed them. The ambience, the line, the incredible smell, the friendly attention, and watching their cookie-making process through a glass window -- everything added to the experience. Sinds ons eerste bezoek aan Nederland wilden we deze koekjeswonderen proeven, maar toen kwamen we te laat en waren ze al uitverkocht. Ze bakken de hele dag door verse koekjes en zodra de laatste batch op is, heb je pech -- net zoals wij de eerste keer, verdrietig en gefrustreerd. Deze keer hebben we beter gepland en zijn we eerder aangekomen. We hebben wat koekjes gekocht om direct op te eten en wat om mee naar huis te nemen. If one pays attention it will not take long to notice a Van Stapele Koekmakerij bag in Amsterdam, especially around De Wallen where a steady stream of guests line up daily from 10h00 until "the last Cookie is sold" per advertising. A relatively new entity compared to canals and The Bulldog, but no less popular with tourists judging by the crowd, Van Stapele Koekmakerij takes its name from owner Vera van Stapele who opened her small store in December of 2013. A "do one thing and do it well" concept in a world of "everything to everyone," just one type of Cookie made by the team in a fully-visible kitchen all day, ordering is merely a matter of numbers and container choice before teeth plunge into lightly-crisp Dark Chocolate Dough wrapped around semi-solid White Chocolate filling. read more
Yummmmmy!!! My cousin recommended this place when she found out I was in Amsterdam and I'm so glad that she did. The cookies were absolutely delicious There was a line that stretched outside of the shop but it moved quickly. The service was quick but very friendly staff. Very cute ambiance! You're able to watch them make the cookies and they also had these old school pinball like display and sometimes they provide kids with a coin to play a round. read more

I gotta say I was skeptical about these cookies at first, one because I don't like white chocolate and two because how good could a cookie actually be (we have access to some pretty good ones in the NYC area). To me they were worth the hype because I don't like white chocolate (too sweet) and I still loved these cookies. The blend of dark and white was just so delicious that we bought a tin (8 cookies) and went back for another a few days later. I don't think the price is that off putting (you'd pay that in NYC for a cookie anyway) and although there was a line it went pretty quickly. I would 100% recommend these cookies. read more
When a place sells one thing only, all of their time and energy is put into creating and delivering the best. These chocolate cookies with white chocolate fillings are so good and you'd be missing out if you don't make a stop here. When they're fresh, the center is warm and gooey. And the cookie is surprisingly not as sweet as it appears to be. Great as a snack and since you can just buy one cookie, there's no need to commit to a pack. The nice thing of making one thing only means that the store will always be making fresh ones as long as there are people lining up. It's like an assembly line for cookies so don't worry if the line looks long...it'll move fast. Customers can look into the kitchen to see the whole process. If you purchase a bunch to bring back as gifts, there are instructions on how to heat it up and how long it lasts. You can also order online the night before and pickup in store! read more

The Van Stapele cookie shop is a must-try if you're in Amsterdam. While it is a very touristy spot. The cookies are pretty good and worth the hype with trying at least once. You could see the cookies being made in-house which adds an extra touch to the experience of visiting the shop. read more
This is one cookie that lives up to the hype. Their new location right south of Dam square is nice and spacious. Brought my little guy here for a treat, and not only were they very patient, they also have a little coin they give kids to put in a machine for fun and get a trinket too. The cookie with the melted white chocolate center is tasty as always. read more

This is probably one of the most talked about spots to try when visiting Amsterdam. There's always a huge line outside - to be fair, it does move relatively quickly though since there's only one item to buy. I do really appreciate stores that have this concept. We waited for maybe 15 minutes, and finally got our beloved cookie. It was a lot smaller than I expected for 3 euros - basically the size of a regular homemade cookie. It tasted just as described though - brownie dough, white chocolate filling, and sweet. It wasn't as warm as I hoped it would be but it was still delicious nonetheless. Very very rich. I'd still say it's worth trying if you're in Amsterdam, but I probably wouldn't go back for it again. read more
My husband saw Van Stapele on TikTok and wanted to try it out. My immediate thought was you have to be very confident in your product to sell only one type of cookie! I was skeptical because when it comes to cookies, I'm a classic chocolate chip gal, but it turned out to be AMAZING! The cookie has almost a brownie consistency and when it's warm, the white chocolate center is gooey. We bought 6 cookies and they gave us a fresh one for free. They give you a little card with recommendations on how to store and reheat the cookies. It said it's recommended to eat them within 4 days after purchase (no problems for us there) or you can freeze the cookies to make them last longer. Since we were there on vacation, we chose the former. As others mentioned, the line moves very fast, so don't be discouraged if you see people lining up out the door! read more
My wife and I were walking around the canals of Amsterdam when we chanced upon a queue outside this shop. We thought it was another cafe, but we noticed that they only sold chocolate cookies, which made us "curioser" at what the fuss was about. After standing in line for about 20 minutes, we got in this snug "koekmakerij" (translated simply as cookie shop by Google) and proceeded to get a "blikken doos" (tin box) of 6 koek. Now, in hindsight, I'm almost remorseful as the cookies just "disappeared" after returning home. Disappeared, meaning I alone partook in gobbling 4 of the 6 scrumptious baked goodies. Should've gotten more is my note to self. I'm glad we were able to indulge in these Dutch pastries. read more
The first day we came, there was a long line that went all the way to the bridge. When we returned a few days later, we came shortly after they opened and the line was much shorter. Preorder if you can! The shop is really small. There are 4 workers- two making cookies, one packaging to go orders, and one helping the customers in line- packaging and collecting payment. The trays of cookies are constantly coming out of the oven, so they're nice and warm. Each cookie is € 2.5 or 6 for € 12.5. I ordered eight cookies packaged in the tin box (€ 5) to bring home. I also ordered two to eat ASAP. There is only one kind of cookie. It consists of a dark chocolate dough with a filling of white chocolate. They are crispy on the outside and soft inside. This was a great bakery that I happened to stumbled upon! Needed to go to the main square to meet up with a tour guide and walked by the bakery before they opened and they already had a small line so I thought why not stand in line and see what we're getting here! Turns out they sell only chocolate cookies with chocolate chip and white chocolate filling. It sounds very sweet but it isn't! It has some dark chocolate and comes out fresh and warm. It just melted in my mouth. Would definitely come back for a sweet treat. read more

After trying the cookie for myself, I can definitely say that it's a great cookie, but I don't know that I would wait too long for just the cookie. If the line is short, definitely give it a try. We saw hype over these stuffed cookies on online food blogs and decided to try it while we were around the corner. We were surprised to find that the queue for the shop wrapped around to the bridge across the street. However, it moved fast, since the shop only sells one item, so the only choice customers have to make is how many. Though it was raining, we decided to wait. The "bouncer" warned us that the shop, which was half an hour from closing time, was running out of cookies, so we might not get one even if we waited. We decided to take the risk, and luckily, we managed to get a couple when it was our turn. These cookies were great and warm, but I feel like I could get a stuffed cookie of similar deliciousness at many great small bakeries in America. It was a good cookie, but I'm not sure it merits all the excitement-- no diss to the cookie, I just think there are plenty of great places to grab a snack in Amsterdam that don't have queues. read more

The line moves relatively fast I got there maybe 5 minutes before 10 am and was able to have cookies in my hand in 20 minutes. These chocolate cookies feature a white chocolate interior that is the perfect ooey gooey center. The cookie itself wasn't overly sweet as you would expect from a double chocolate cookie which I really enjoyed. Normally chocolate cookies make my teeth shiver. You can expect a softer cookie as they come out warm with a slightly crispy edge. We brought a box home to share with family and friends, supposedly they last up to four days! read more
