choco waffle

Dropped by this place because of the yelp review! Love the people there, they offered me a lot of chocolate options to try! And they gave me the fresh chocolate from the chocolate fountain! (They made fresh caramel, white choco)! I ended up buying some good souvenirs and tried their waffle! Belgium waffle is served hot with hot chocolate drizzle, perfect!

Amazing selection of all kinds of sweets and desserts. Came at around 9:30-10:00 pm at night and Metropolitan was packed. The workers were very friendly and helpful and I got a few flavors of gelato and a chocolate covered strawberry stick. Every flavor if gelato I tried was amazing. I ordered pistachio, straciatella, and a caramel flavour and it did not disappoint! The strawberry was delicious but the strawberries were really small and I just wish I had more of it to enjoy for what I paid. I think it was partly because I went in so late and they only seemed to have 2 sticks kf strawberry left. Anyways, I wish I got to go more than just once during my time in Amsterdam. Metropolitan was amazing!! Highly recommend!

Soooooo goooood!!!

OMG!! This is the best gelato I ever had. I didn't see any sandwiches but its a dessert place. I''m in Rome right now and tried like 7 other different gelato places and this one, I can't get it out of my taste buds! It's so rich and creamy!!! I got strawberry and cheesecake. I think it's the cows in Amsterdam. Just like their cheese, their gelato is rich and creamy. Their portions were also generous. Also I read the sign and their gelato is lactose free! Even better for me. I cannot stress how good their gelato is. I wish I can bring a whole tub back to Cali with me. I'm craving it now!!!

This is what you want.

The "deli" in the name is something of a misnomer, because this place is all about the sweets. They have everything from pastries to fruit to cannoli to chocolate clusters to "New York" cheesecake to mini-pancakes and stacks and stacks of waffles... But if you eat one thing when you're wandering around Amsterdam,* let it be the Stroopwafel ice cream from Metropolitan Deli. It is unbelievably tasty. As I understand it,a stroopwafel is two of your already delicious waffles sandwiched around a caramel syrup infused with brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon. If you take all those flavors and fold them into the creamiest, most fantastic ice cream you've ever had, you've got the Stroopwafel. I recommend you stick it on top of a cone. Take said cone and walk the streets of the Red Light District, waving at the nice ladies in the windows. Then you can call it a day. ____________ *I was going to say high out of your mind, but that goes without saying for you. You degenerate.

Yeah, this was basic.

Needed a late night, quick, sweet tooth satisfaction and seen through the window NUTELLA. Four mins before it closed, I settled for a waffle covered with Nutella on a popsicle stick. Settled. It was lukewarm and I paid 3 and change in euros for a half waffle. Wasnt happy, but it fulfilled my desires briefly and souredly (if that's a real word) regretted later as we stumbled upon other delicious places.

When in Amsterdam you must go the Metropolitan for a delicious bite. What a heavenly place to stop in for a taste of flavor town. Kees the cheif makes all of his delightful desserts from scratch using the finest ingredients and it is clearly appreciated in the taste. Make sure you stop in and say hello to Kess and tell him Mr.. WENDELL SAID HELLO.

We were craving some sweet after our spicy Tibetan food. It was getting late but luckily - they were open until 10 pm. You can sample gelato & as I was eating my order - I noticed she gave sample of hot chocolate to people who just walked in. What drew me in was the waffles - I wanted one & they had an option for one that included a scoop of ice cream - SCORE! I ordered a waffle with a scoop of Hazelnut Ice Cream.. HOLY MOLY - it was YUMMERS! Little bits of sugar in the waffles that give it a little bit of texture - satisfied my sweet tooth. The Hazelnut Ice Cream was such a good compliment to the waffle. Hot & cold combo was working wonders! They also sold cannolis and a bunch of other desserts that all looked delicious. If you have a sweet tooth - you'd definitely satisfy it here :)

Delicious waffle & gelato! If you get there late its busy but sometimes they'll have a free crossiant!

Stumbled upon this dessert shoppe and bought a waffle on a whim. Instantly won over. So won over, in fact, that one of my travel companions (who has the appetite of a bird) promptly finished his waffle and dove back into the store for a second. I came back a week later for one final fix before heading back to the States. Metropolitan is a feast for the senses; it has baskets full of giant blooms of meringue and displays brimming with chocolate. There was bitter cacao powder spread in lines on a mirror -- daring the bravest to snort. We ordered waffles - each come affixed to a popsicle stick. I ordered mine slathered in hot caramel and liquefied Nutella. It was a delightful mess. The consistently of the waffles was amazing; they had a faint cinnamon-sugar crust to them, with soft, honeycombing dough beneath. I think these are the best waffles I've ever had... even better than the ones we tried on Belgium. Nobody else I've encountered has been able to replicate that sugar-and-spice coating. Metropolitan is along the well-beaten tourist path, so service can be rushed and the long, narrow shop congested. But it is well worth it to brave the crowd and then find yourself a nice canal-side roost to gorge yourself on warm waffle.

Started with a pistachio Canoli. It was nice, but I'm not a huge fan of a lot of cream filling. Next was a hot waffle with nuts and glory ice cream and dark chocolate topping. Many other options also available. And we got a scoop of limone ice cream. Everything was good, and a nice quick bite to get ice cream and additional sweets

What I love about this place is that they are open every day until midnight!!!! YAY!!! Whut?!?! in Amsterdam!? Yes! Amsterdam needs more places like this one! Of course it doesn't do much good to be open until late if you don't offer quality which is also good that they do deliver on that front. I love, absolutely love, ice cream! I scream for ice cream!! However, I don't like it when it's too sweet. I'd much rather have more flavor and less of a face-twitching, overly sugar dosed sweetness. Now that we've established that I love ice cream that's not too sweet, I will also add that I am a big coconut whore. You could sprinkle coconut on top of shit and I'd eat it..... (that last part may not be true). Now you know what I like and Metropolitan does not disappoint! The coconut ice cream is very coconut-buttery and feels and tastes organic in both texture and flavor. I don't know how natural or organic it is but it sure tastes that way. Of course that's not the only flavor they have. Another one of my favorites at this place is the NY Cheesecake ice cream. Very creamy. If you want to go for a late night run to a pastry or ice cream shop, here's the place to go! They have a selection of cakes, pies and waffles, ice cream, chocolates, and a few chocolate themed shower and bath products. They also have chocolate beer! Yes! CHOCOLATE BEER! At 7.2% it's not light, but it has an instant pleasant aftertaste. You can also try to snort a line of cocoa. Yes, I said cocoa and not cocaine. Check out the pics.

Dropped in for a quick coffee but ended up with more chocolate than I promised myself I would eat for the whole week. A great espresso follow by a complimentary chocolate truffle made me fall for the classic drug dealer trick; "first one is free but you won't be able to resist buying more". And that's what happened. I ended up eating chocolates like there was no tomorrow and I regret nothing as they all tasted great! The staff is really nice and if you are lucky they will even sing a couple of tunes behind the register. Coffee, chocolate and singing makes a perfectly fine experience!

What's a trip to Amsterdam without visiting one of my favorite messy straats: Warmoesstraat. A messy street caused by and filled with college students and wannabe college students getting their beer and food on... and of course desert... What I meant to say is, what's a trip to Amsterdam without revisiting one of my favorite desert places. A couple years ago I had coffee and a cannoli here. The crispness of the shell and excellent sweetness of the chocolate and filling never left the back of my mind. I had always notated Metropolitan as a good desert spot. I'm back because I was attending an event in the area and grabbed myself some chocolates from the back which are decent, a desert, orange juice and a latte. All pretty good. They used to have that chocolate fountain outside but moved it behind the counter, which is a smart move. The stool seating is still facing the wall. And the staff is half friendly, served with a smile. Due to lack of seating, the feel of the place makes it attractive the way the ice cream, pastries and chocolate goods are on display but the lack of seating make it a more grab and go sort of desert place.

No longer Metroplitan, under a new name. Gelato wasn't very good, lots of ice chunks. Wouldn't go again.

Tried a few Bonnat bars I havent had before, and some newer Dutch brands using cacao from Indonesia (Bali) and Mexico (xoconusco). They also had Pralus, Amadei, etc. They have some homemade filled chocolates, looking forward to trying that next time.

If I could give more than five stars to this little shop (tucked in one of the many sidestreets…read morethat dot Amsterdam) I would. Before I get into the shop itself, The wife and I need to note the owner and hostess. She is, without a doubt, the nicest person we've ever encountered in any shop, restaurant or store. She truly cares about her wares, and seems to care in turn about your experience and that you be happy while you are there; if anyone ever earns the designation "hostess" it is her. For lack of a better descriptive, she is grandmotherly in the best way. My wife would insist (and I would agree) to give this shop five stars based on her service alone, even if the shop was drab and the chocolates mediocre. Fortunately, neither is the case. The chocolates are universally excellent and artisinally produced. She sells them in packaged form to take with you and savor in your home; however she also prepares a hot chocolate for you to enjoy in the shop or on the go, and it is incredibly rich without being too sweet. While not exactly inexpensive, it is also more than in-line with high end chocolates in Europe. What about the store itself? Well, the sense that our hostess belongs in a Harry Potter book as a kindly, magical shopkeeper is enhanced by the store's appearance. It radiates warmth as it is filled with chocolate-related antiques and knickknacks, charming designed displays and shelves overstuffed with quaintly designed sweets packaging. But make no mistake: the shop itself is meticulously clean and neat. As you can tell, I and my wife could gush about this shop for a long while. But I'll leave you with: go visit and say hello.

It's quite different from…read morethe standard tall, Dutch hot chocolate you'll find in most chocolate shops and cafes in Amsterdam, being highly concentrated, almost like an espresso drink and is *extremely* tasty and pleasantly stimulating as well. If I lived in Amsterdam, I'd be going here regularly. I have yet to try the eating chocolate from here, though - definitely next time I'm in Amsterdam.

I know I'm echoing the previous reviews in some regard but really...this is as good as it gets…read more I've walked by this store many times and nary gave it a thought until last night when three ladies very passionate and enthusiastic about chocolate woke me up. When I mentioned to Debbie that I lived nearby the store she said, "that's dangerously close." That wasn't a tease nor a threat but an observation and she was right and knew it. She did say that with a grin on her face... So.....I had to check this out. Sure enough Debbie's excitement and enthusiasm for chocolate I could feel from outside as I gazed upon her grin from outside the store. It's a small boutique shop on a backstreet in the Jordaan area near the 9 streets on what is considered the 10th street in addition to the 9 streets. It has all different kinds of chocolate in all the nooks and crannies as well as books about chocolate interspersed throughout. There is a coffee machine/espresso machine and.....they offer tasters. Yep yep they sure do....tasters, samples....There is a long table with seats where they hold tasting sessions for groups, prearranged for 8-11 people with a choice on what kind of chocolate, be it dark, milk chocolate or whatever. They also have tasting events that they advertise via their newsletter. You can sign up for the newsletter on their website. It's hard not to get excited about chocolate when you are in the company of people whose passion and love for it is so strong and so pure. I'm envious. Debbie had me fascinated with how much she knew and how deep her passion is for chocolate. It's truly amazing. I wanted to know more and had/have myriad questions but didn't want to take up her time. She was only too glad to answer my questions. She more than answered my questions with an impressive fluidity of knowledge.Being expert in her subject she was excited that someone else was interested to hear about and learn more. I'll just have to stop in more often to ask more questions and to learn more. I love having such a cool store so near to hang out at and to enjoy some chocolate along with an enthusiastic person sharing interesting information about it. Huge kudos to the owners of the store and to Debbie! I'll be back.
