If you're a chocolate lover, you'll like this place. Lots of types of chocolates to choose from. You can also have them make a custom chocolate bar just for yourself and watch it being made. Located in the lower/basement level of a building. You have to take some steps down - careful as they're skinny steps. Inside is a small space and can get crowded. Stop by if you love chocolate or passing by. read more

I almost gave up waiting in line for this place. My husband convinced me to wait. It was well worth it. Although we have seen this brand in Florida, it was very fun and interesting to visit this attraction. I lobe the chocolate bar wrappers that said "I went to Amsterdam and got you..." read more

Tony's is an amazing place. I had never heard about it until going to Amsterdam. If you also have never really heard about Tony's, I highly recommend you stop in. The story about how this place came about is just heartwarming and makes me want to give them all my money. The chocolate really is fantastic, and it comes in a plethora of flavors. The storefront is where you can make an appointment to get into and is a very fun experience where you get to choose your own chocolate and toppings. You get to watch the bar being made and you get to choose the wrapper colors and name your chocolate bar. I think this makes for a really great little gift to give to family and friends back home. You can also purchase premade chocolate bars in the store, and trust me when I say you can't really go wrong. If a flavor sounds good to you add it to your bag. The chocolate is that iconic European super rich chocolate. read more

What a fun experience! As an avid chocolate lover, I absolutely loved exploring the store and creating my own custom chocolate bar. Expectations were clearly set around timing, and the entire process was smooth and easy from start to finish. This is such a unique and enjoyable activity, andI highly recommend it if you're traveling to Amsterdam! read more

Move aside Willy Wonka, you've been ousted. There is a new chocolate king in town and his name is Tony. As you can see from my profile photos, me love some chocolate. More importantly, if you visit on a hot summer day, they have the best AC in town, a rarity in that part of the world. read more

I was so excited to find out Amsterdam is the home of Tony's Chocolonely and that they have a factory here! The cherry on top was finding out they have a create your own chocolate bar option. I came here and saw all the different chocolate bar flavors here that I haven't seen back home. I used the ipad there to create my own chocolate bar as well as one for my sister and one for my brother in law (10 euros each). You can pick up to 2 types of chocolate (milk, dark or white). There's a variety of topping options and you can choose 3 of those as well as customizing your own packaging and writing what you want on the sides of it. It takes about 1.5-2 hours for them to make it. You get a text message with a link to track it, which is super nice. Once it's ready, you go back with a QR code provided and they quickly scan it and give it to you. Super efficient and great spot. I ended up buying 2 other bars for 10 euros total. The only thing I'd say is that when you're creating the chocolate bars you can only do one at a time. I had to make 3 different orders, which just took a little more time. read more

Milk Caramel Sea Salt 32%: Tony's Chocolonely was founded in 2005 by Teun (Tony), who is a Dutch journalist. His mission statement is to end exploitation in the chocolate industry. The company's chocolate is made primarily in Belgium with their cocoa coming from West Africa. This particular bar was recommended to me by a former colleague and when I spotted one on clearance I had to give it a shot. It takes the original Tony's milk chocolate bar and adds crunchy caramel and flakes of sea salt. According to their website, it is also their best-selling flavor worldwide. There's nothing inherently wrong with this candy bar, that said, I was a bit disappointed. Both of the reasons for my disappointment are on me as I did not do any research ahead of time like I typically do. First, I didn't like that the bar is not evenly divided. Tony's does this because their bars depict the West African coastline with the chunks just above representing the Gulf of Guinea. Also, it's meant to illustrate the inequality in the chocolate industry (cocoa farming and production). On paper I think those are great ideas, but it's annoying trying to eat an oddly shaped bar. Second, I was expecting the bar to have an oozing caramel center like a Cadbury Caramello. That's how I like my caramel chocolate, but to be fair, Tony's specifically describes the bar as having crunchy caramel. Funny enough, the miniscule caramel globs make me think of the amber containing mosquitos from Jurassic Park. I will applaud Tony's on the salted caramel flavor as unlike some products, it's definitely salty (in a good way). Not my favorite candy bar, but still enjoyable. I had no idea Tony's Chocolates was based in Amsterdam. I have tried their chocolate as far away as Kenmore, WA (USA) and thought it was pretty decent. I learned Tony's is based in Amsterdam when I saw their shop at the Amsterdam airport. When I was strolling through the city I then ran across the Chocolonely but it had just closed for the day. Not to be deterred I returned at an earlier time a few days later and went through the store. I like the interactive exhibits and the staff were knowledgeable and nice and pointed out the specials only found in the Chocolonely. I bought a few special flavors and had to hold off on all the cool looking Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream collab flavors! Still, I came away with much more chocolate than I thought I would and am still snacking on it all the way back home in Kenmore, WA. Thanks Tony's! read more

We saw a line and wondered what it was for - we thought "how fun"! We didn't wait long though (and quickly understood why we had to wait - it was quite packed). We walked around and enjoyed the different selection of chocolate. At the busiest area, they had a sampling of chocolate (yummy) and a wall of bars, where you found the chocolate bar you like, press the lever and it drops it for you to purchase. We selected a dozen chocolate eggs and- they are pretty darn good! On our way to check out, we watched them packaging the chocolates. The check out line was packed but the line moved very quickly. The store is very clean and vibrant. Toney's is sold in a lot of local stores but this one is pretty big. read more

We were in Amsterdam last month and were on a bike ride and ran into Tony's chocolonely shop and we loved it. We met a guy name Martine and he was so knowledgeable about all the chocolates and he was so kind and helpful. We went home with a handful of chocolates and have been enjoying them all month long. This chocolate is amazing and the story behind it is also amazing. I wish we had one of these shops in Portland Oregon. And wish we had a Martine to help us. read more

The downstairs chocolate store was fantastic, you can custom design your own chocolate bar (your own wrapper and choose a combination of chocolate flavors). The upstairs chocolate bar was great, unfortunately there are only 2 options of milkshakes and the hot chocolate was dead average (it tasted like instant hot chocolate). Worth the visit! read more

was not huge on this chocolate. tastes unauthentic and lacking a rich chocolatey flavor. wouldn't recommend their products

Tony is lonely because his chocolate company is one of the only ones that uses ethically sourced cacao beans. The lady working in the shop was very knowledgeable and told us all about the company and it's noble cause. Not only is the company ethical, but the chocolate is so delicious! They provide samples of every type they sell in the shop so you can try before you buy. They also run a café so you can get some coffee to go with your chocolate. This is a must-stop for gifts from Amsterdam! PS... you can get a few of their flavors in the US at REI stores! read more

Absolutely delicious chocolate bars! And the story of Tony's chocolates is so special. I love the new mini bites I found in Holland this summer. Even though I always bring a good variety of large, medium and mini bars back to Canada with me as gifts, I think I eat most of them! I would love to be able to buy them in Vancouver. Can't wait to return to Holland for more! read more

I LOVE Tony's and while you can find some bars in the US the selection in Amsterdam is far better. They have a ton of different flavors and they're all delicious. Plus, they do good work trying to get slavery out of the chocolate industry. read more
