A royal patisserie with THE BEST croquettes in Amsterdam. Founded in 1886. A bit out of the way but worth the trip. We spent the morning at Vondelpark then stopped by here for lunch. There are benches across the street to where you can sit and enjoy your treats. Best to eat the fresh cooked croquettes ASAP for the full experience. The croquettes are crispy and rich (€2,95 each for veal or cheese, €3,60 for shrimp). Would have loved to try the bitterballen but you can only buy them frozen for take-home cooking. We also tried two fruit tarts (€3,95 each) and they were delicious. This old time gem of Amsterdam is a must-visit. Saw mostly locals or the occasional advanced tourist.

This place was on my list of places to visit but I had given up looking for it when VUALA for some miraculous reason, I had stumbled upon it. The inside is very small with display cases of their cookies, cakes, and chocolate. I had read reviews about their croquettes and decided to get one. They have options of Veal, Shrimp, or regular Cheese. I forget the prices but they're around 2 euros, with the veal & shrimp being slightly more than the cheese. It takes about 5 minutes to be made, but it's well worth the wait! It's on the smaller side so it's definitely a snack food. The veal one tastes just like a bitterballen - a thick creamy mushroom gravy-type sauce with little bits of veal, with a beautiful fried outside. I came back the following day, just in time before they closed the shop at 5pm (literally ran inside and told them I was only there for one thing and they kindly obliged) to get the Corina chocolate. I had seen it when I went to get the croquette, but wasn't feeling in the chocolate mood - but I knew I needed to try it before I left Amsterdam because it's not every day you see a chocolate named after you! (especially when you have such a weird name like mine haha) - this was 1 euro (price is weighed) and it was dark chocolate wrapped around a dark chocolate ganache, topped with a milk chocolate halo. Absolutely delicious.

My god, how did this patisserie get 5 stars?? Did I just happen to come on an 'empty freezer and pantry' day? Most of everything in the bakery looked yummy and the staff were very nice. Price was a bit too high but I thought it should be worth the taste. I bought a perfect looking open-faced apple tart and some ginger cookies (I love and was in the mood for ginger) Apple tart was terrible. Apple was too soft and sweet. Like maybe older apple tart.. Been sitting on the self too long. Crust was too soggy and flavorless.. Can't taste the butter in there at all. Everything just screams 'old' and has a bad after taste of the freezer aged odor. Terrible. 3-4 euro Ginger cookies- lots of small julienned crystallized ginger but the ginger flavor is a little too mild. Too sweet. The cookie was very soft, flavorless. Again, soggy and old. Better than the apple tart but still bad. 3.5 euro-ish. Will not return and DO NOT come here.

If I could give a place 6 stars this place would get it! Excellent pastries. We bought a few things like a hazelnut dark chocolate cookie, a ginger tart, an apple pie, and meringue. Everything is world class!

Great bakery. We had three desserts. All were fantastic. Although I wouldn't say that the cheesecake was the best I ever had, it was still fantastic. A definite visit if you're in Amsterdam My only negative is that there are no places to sit!! And it is a small bakery so we had to wait till people cleared out.

Beautiful selection of pastries and cakes. Went here today to pick a birthday cake for the loved one. He is a big fan of marzipan cakes and they had a cake that I hope will satisfy his taste which ordered ahead of time. Cakes are between €15-€20. Read somewhere online that there is usually a line but on Monday at noon, I was the only one there. They can also do custom writing. Make sure you ask for it. Service was very polite and accommodating.

Tracked down this bakery for breakfast. After experience pastries in Paris, I didn't think that Amsterdam would be just as good. This cute little bakery had it all. Had a chocolate croissant and a bunch of yummy treats as well. I don't remember the flavors of the pastries, but it was all so good. Highly recommend visiting this bakery, can't go wrong with what you pick.

The best kroketten EVER (if not taking into account my grandma's home made)
Joëlla D.

Ooh my, had I ever thought that I would find a kroketten that come sooo close to those my sweet grandma once made for me as a kid? Kroketten or croquettes are Dutch pride. And when visiting this country you have to try one. Maybe you did not expect to find croquettes in this pastry bakery. And if you would find them, you would have never expected them to fry them for you! Holtkamp does! They offer different kind of croquettes of the highest quality: meat (veal), shrimps and cheese. They also have mini ones if you want to impress your guest at a party. In my memory, my grandma's croquettes were always the best. And they will. Unfortunately she never decided to start a shop and sell them. The family recipe stays within the secret boundaries of our family. But I have the slightest feeling the Holtkamp recipe comes for the same age as my grandma, so they might as well be the same. The taste sure is! Please go and taste the best kroket you can find in The Netherlands when visiting the city center of Amsterdam!!!

The best lemon meringue pie in the universe...not kidding.Seriously lekker

I was thinking of picking up a few breakfast treats and came across this bakery on my way back to…read moremy hotel. The pastries caught my eye in the glass case. There were cannolis, cream puffs, cookies, donuts, cakes, macarons and there were also sandwiches and pizza type breads. We bought a cream puff with Bavian cream, a chocolate covered cream puff with the standard cream filing and a chocolate covered croissant. Everyone was happy with their purchases and I was especially happy with my cream puff with the Bavian cream. The surrounding cake was light and airy and the cream was delicious; not quite whipped cream (like American version) but like a combination of whipped cream and vanilla custard. The filling was very light and the entire pastry did not leave any heavy feeling at all. The 2 chocolate pastries were consumed without complaints. The chocolate croissant I noticed, was completely dipped in chocolate rather than a croissant that has chocolate inside. This bakery lives up to its c'est magnifique name!

My favorite place in Amsterdam missing from Yelp? I had to add you Croissanterie C'est Magnifique…read more And you are simply that: MAGNIFICENT. You have set the bar for every patisserie and croissanterie I visit from now on. MY GOODNESS. I don't even know where to start. I visited you more times than I care to admit. And each time, your fruit tartes, custard croissants, crumble cakes, and cappuccinos made me dread the day I was to leave Amsterdam. For I knew no other place would ever compare. This small, unassuming place is located smack in the middle of the bustling Leidsestraat shopping district. The glass counter houses a plethora of sweet goodness (see my pics). The same girl was there each day making coffee and running back and forth from the kitchen in the back. Pastries are made fresh multiple times a day so everything is always fresh. Once you grab your order, there is a long table with stools that runs along the right wall. The smell of ground coffee beans and fresh baked bread filled the air, and spilled onto the street making it impossible to pass by without stopping in. They are open until at least 10pm but I'm not sure of their exact hours. And they open early too. Sweet, sweet danger. I am saddened that you are so far away from me. *insert sad face here*

Banketbakkerij Lanskroon - Texture inside the gember køek

As a fan of both chewy/soft or alternatively crispy cookies, I appreciated the crunch on honingwafel that contrasted with its gooey center. Walking into around 2pm the bakery was steadily busy though didn't feel excessively crowded. A couple customers or groups would trickle in at a time, there were two people in line in front of me, perfect for me to take in the options and decide what to get. There are about 5-6 smaller cafe tables set up for about 2-3 people each, not a place for larger groups. The staff (woman at the counter), was friendly and helpful when I asked about the differences in the wafels, her recommendations, and what some of the other baked goods were. I was very curious about the gember køek and she said that was her favorite in the store. So I got: - honingwafel €3.60: as mentioned above crispy cookies with a honey syrup center. I'm kinda curious what this consisted of since it tasted less sweet than only honey itself. Level of sweetness is probably 6 or 7 out of 10. I ate it by itself and thought it would go well with some coffee or tea. As you're eating a little of the syrup may be squeezed out of the sandwich at the edges so take care. As they sold more, I saw fresh cookies being prepared on the side. - gember køek €3.20: as a ginger lover, I couldn't say no to this one; it's an almond cookie covered on top with chunks of candied ginger. A softer crumb, the ginger pieces were very sweet, cloyingly so that after eating about half (on a separate day than the wafel) I wish I had a cup of black coffee in the moment. - speculaasbrokken €5.50: crispy speculos cookies (think those bischoff ones they serve on Delta flights also widely available in US grocery stores now), but house-made and with almond slivers on top. I found them slightly less dense and with a texture similar to a crunchy graham cracker. I'm curious about their black current and poppyseed pastries, and would gladly drop by again to try these!
