My boyfriend and I came here together because his aunt said this was her favourite place to grab brunch. We thought the restaurant was so cute and even on a random Tuesday morning, we had to wait ten minutes to be seated. According to his aunt, Little Collins is always super crowded, so if you don't like bumping elbows with a stranger during your brunch, this isn't the place to go. I ordered a chocolate, rosemary, and banana loaf and my boyfriend had a halloumi and polenta dish with red bean paste and avocado. It was his first time trying polenta and he thought the food had an interesting flavour. I definitely agree that I love that their menu was packed of things that I've never tried before. My boyfriend's aunt also mentioned that their menu is constantly changing and that they regularly have new things to try. The loaf I got was really dense and heavy, I ended up only eating half of it and washing it down with the fresh orange juice I got. I loved that they didn't skimp on the chocolate though, some parts of the loaf were more chocolate than bread and the chocolate was so rich and decadent. My boyfriend was initially a little sceptical about the menu choices, because he's vegetarian and didn't recognise a lot of the ingredients, but was able to find something he wanted pretty easily. He ended up loving his meal and after trying a bite I agreed that it was delicious. The combination of flavours is so unexpected but in a good way and I liked that it was something new and different that you can't really get anywhere else. We would definitely recommend coming here on your trip to Amsterdam if you're looking to challenge your tastebuds with something new and different. We stumbled across this place on our way to the Heineken Experience. The menu is very small but has an item for everyone. One thing I thought was interesting is that the menu items don't have a name, so you kind of have to point to the line item and say the ingredients it contains to let them know that's what you want to order. Maybe it's just the English menu? I got the pastrami eggs benedict item and my husband got some chickpea pancake and tofu scramble item. Both were really good! I had thought about coming here for a while, because it's reminiscent of the Little Collins in NYC. We queued up around 11:30am on a rainy Saturday - this place is hopping, no reservations taken. We were seated within 20 minutes, and the service was friendly and prompt. The fresh juices were delightful; I had the beetroot, apple, ginger juice and he had the spinach, celery, apple, jalapeño - they were both so good. I was happy that they had a vegan option so that I didn't have to worry about the dairy (as someone who is lactose intolerant), and I did get the poached egg on top. The vegan option that day was a chickpea pancake served with baba ganoush and tahini- I also asked for some hot sauce and they gave me freshly made fermented chili. It really brightened up my meal. We had a side of sucuk (turns out it a type of sausage) and though it was strange that they put the sausage directly in the cream of his French toast, in the end it was still a good pairing. Kinda of like chicken and waffles except sausage and French toast. In general a pleasant brunch catering to the expats who miss brunch. Like most brunch places, it is not going to be a relax-and-hang-out-for-hours situation because there is pressure to give up the table for others who are waiting, but I'd come back. read more

We ordered the kimchi bloody mary and the mandarin mimosa. The mandarin was very fresh and was a good pick-me-up. We also ordered the kimchi pocket and the braised beef. The kimchi pocket was definitely interesting and packed a lot of punch. I wasn't in love with the braised beef cheek, however. It lacked distinctive flavours, though it was still really filling and helped sooth my hangover. My favourite of the meal were the sausages. Salty and delicious! I was taken here for a drink so my review is of little value. A nice cafe / bar / restaurant located in the busy De Pipj District of Amsterdam. It was one of the original Aussie inspired cafes in Amsterdam. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. It's a fairly small space with outside seating for the warmer months. Staff are very nice and they make some nice cocktails and offer brunch and other items throughout the day. Their wine selection is limited and perhaps they need to add some decent wine on the menu. And my was it worth the wait! First up I had a smoky chipotle and bacon Bloody Mary! It was just perfect in terms of heat and the flavour profile was perfectly balanced! I ordered the Chistorra and guasacaca - spicy Spanish sausages with gruyere black bean pastry and a coriander salad - again through the roof on flavour and my friend ordered the eggs and waffles with hollandaise sauce which was just as sublime. This is a really cute brunch spot near the Albert Cuypmarkt that we visited early afternoon on a Thursday. They have a lovely patio space (perfect for people watching) with a few two-top tables on one side and a few long picnic tables on the other. They also offer a dinner menu later on and are open daily save for Tuesday. Service was friendly and efficient-no complaints at all there. I started with a glass of sauvignon blanc (4.5 euros) and my husband had a long black coffee (3 euros). They have a variety of boozy brunch drinks on offer as well. Their menu is so unique-kimchi waffle, broken egg curry, and haloumi plum toast to name a few options. I saw several tables enjoying the avocado on toast, so I decided to order that despite never having tried that trendy dish before. The avocado toast had smashed avocado, green tomato & turkish pepper salad, tahini yoghurt dressing on multigrain toast , and came with two pieces. This was 9 euro, with an option oof adding poached egg (11 euro) or bacon (12.5 euro). The presentation was beautiful, and the dish itself was quite filling. I loved the tahini yogurt dressing, which added a bit of flavor to the avocado. I also loved the heartiness of the bread. I wish the dish had a bit more flavor (maybe it's just because I'm not the biggest avocado fan), but, overall I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the ¡A HUEVO! which was chipotle braised beef , beans, baked eggs, smashed avocado, jalapeño salsa ,crème fraîche, coriander, and tortilla (15 euro). His came out in a mini cast-iron skillet, was piping-hot, and was a very generous portion. The braised beef was delicious and had a great spice! All of the ingredients complemented each other well, and he loved all of the flavors. The presentation of the dish, just like mine, was on point! The trouble with choosing a breakfast in places like Amsterdam are the vast range of restaurants, bakeries and cafés flooded through each neighborhood. This resulted in a consult with Google for top Amsterdam brunch spots...low and behold Little Collins! I found it interesting to have an Aussie restaurant in the heart of Pijp. Upon arrival you see a front window seating pane with people either reading a paper, plugged into their laptop or friends munching away. I went with a friend and it was just what we were looking for. We were seated right away (Friday noon) and quiet enough to chit chat through our meal. Waitress was very pleasant and we later found out the chef was American. I had the Carnivore...having protein is important in my diet. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Every component in the meal, except the bread was protein based. Eggs, bacon, huge slab of sausage and...beans! Eggs Benedict with beans was a little off putting for me but I thought I'd try it anyway. It was a first but now that's I've had it I'd have again in a heartbeat! The meal was very hearty without that incredibly heavy feeling. It wasn't too busy when we walked in, so we were promptly seated and introduced to the restaurant's concept: ordering small-ish dishes to share with your party. We got started with some beers, after which the roasted beets arrived swiftly: they were lovely in their warmth, accompanied by a snappy vinaigrette and generous supply of fresh goat cheese. Second up was the tuna tartar, which came with avocado that the waiters were happy to serve on the side (since we were with a friend who's allergic to those). The tartar, avocado, microgreens and plaintain chips came together in a wonderfully bright combination of flavors that left us eager for more. Luckily, the smoked salmon and wakami pickle weren't far behind; smoked to perfection and served with equally delicious yet crunchy salmon skin, this dish was probably one of our favorites. Finally, we had haloumi with carrots and thyme: a beautiful combination of textures and flavors. Overall, we love Little Collins for their taste combinations. I had a glass of prosecco, which was lovely, and the spiced beef flatbread with the grilled halloumi and honey glazed carrots. I think 4 stars is pretty accurate. We went on a Saturday before Easter Sunday without reservations. It wasn't a problem and sat down as soon as we got there. I ordered Bloody Mary original and a cappachino. Both really good. My boyfriend ordered the kimchi Bloody Mary and after joking that it would probably be horrible it was REALLY good!!! Definitely would recommend that! We ordered the hollidase with bacon and the carnivore. Not sure why this place gets such high ratings, though maybe it's the brunch. We came for dinner and it was an off night for them. Ordered the cauliflower dip, which was excellent, and the smoked butter with olive bread, which came with burnt toast. I was there scraping cinder off my toast with a knife. The butter was nice but overly salted. Then the waiter asked if we were ready for our entrees and we said yes. Add then...nothing. Super weird. We ordered another glass of wine and they didn't say anything so we kind of assumed it was coming. There were virtually no other people eating at this hour so I assumed it couldn't be the kitchen getting backed up but it was about 40 minutes from the appetizers to the main course. We were cold sitting outside and just ate quickly and left. The waiter said the kitchen got jammed up but it was pretty odd, especially after they served us burnt toast. After being put on to Little Collins by my fellow Yelpers and THEN for the name to come up in 2 separate conversations with non-yelp friends (Are non-yelp friends allowed?) it was an obvious first stop on a mildly hangover-glazed Sunday morning. I had the breakfast tea which was delightfully floral and the Eggs Hollandaise. One of my biggest brunch disappointments is often having to choose between eggs benedict and eggs florentine. No such disappointment here, as Eggs Hollandaise has BOTH ham and spinach! On the whole, the dish was just delicious but that's purely a result of the perfect execution of each individual part of the dish. Eggs - Perfectly poached with a lava-like golden yolk Spinach - Perfectly seasoned with a real structure to it (yay strong plant cell walls!) - I could have eaten an entire plate of this alone! Hollandaise sauce - perfectly creamy and tangy Ham - Perfectly salty, smoky, sweet! This won't mean much to the reader but the ham tasted like my granny's ham. Let's just say as a kid I waited all year for Christmas to come so we could have Granny's ham. Sourdough toast - Crispy around the edges, soft goodness in the centre. In summary - pretty damn close to perfect. I loved that I walked out of here NOT smelling like grease or fried eggs. I've read other reviews which indicate how busy and crowded it gets but I got the feeling the use of space is much better here than in other Amsterdam brunch joints (Ahem, Greenwoods, I'm talking to you). My pals had a thick slice of artisan bread smothered with ham, spinach, a poached egg and hollandaise sauce, which they raved about! I had corn and cilantro cakes, which were really delicious and served with sour cream, guacamole, and bacon. All the food sounded amazing, there was a baked dish of beans that sounded nice, as well as bangers and mash and kedgeree on the menu. In addition to this amazing food, there was quite a list of brunch beverages: 4 types of bloody Marys, Bellinis, Pimm Cup, and some amazing coffee. The space is really nice, large and open with pale tiled walls and some outdoor seating. The best part of my meal (sadly) was the toast. The bread was nice and thick and pre-lathered with olive oil (to go with my hummus). I cannot say enough about this place. We go for dinner regularly, and at one point were going almost weekly. We can go, eat delicious dish after delicious dish, drink good wine, drink FREE water from a carafe, and we leave our stresses at the door. All at a great price :) We've gone as a couple, with friends, and with a large group. We've gone for brunch and for dinner and flip flop constantly on which is better (BOTH!) After living in Houston for many years and then Paris for six, it's been a challenge to find a few good brunch places to frequent on Sundays with my friends in Amsterdam. I tried this place out a couple of times and it has definitely made the cut! They serve hearty, wholesome brunch for a variety of tastes--including a few good vegetarian options (which makes me happy!). Loved the Bloody Mary's, although I had the virgin, and the coffee is just right. The service was a bit slow the times I'd visited. The staff is friendly, however, and with the open kitchen you can see they take their time to prepare quality, well-made drinks and dishes.
