Cardamom bun, strawberry ricotta tart, butter croissant
    Jennifer R.

Everything we tried was okay. The standout was the strawberry ricotta pastry. Not worth waiting 20-30+ minutes. Feels super transactional so I didn't feel a need to return.

Not many pastries left when we showed up in the afternoon

I did not know about this bakery before being driven here so was not prepared for the divine creations I was about to consume. Wow, the Swedish Selma bun and danish were so deliciously and masterfully decadent. This may have ruined me. Don't know how I can go back to Paris Baguette, 85 degree, or any other chain pastry stores now.

Always great pastry. Can wait for the next drop.

Great pastry and pricey. But worth the price, it is definitely a splurge. Yet I can't wait for the next drop.

Am I missing something? There are definitely better bakeries in San Diego... This was sadly disappointing, especially for the prices. The Apple Fritter ($6.50) was too bready, very sour (because the apples weren't ripe), and not a great texture (not crispy on the outside). The Hazelnut Cardamom Bun was super bready, tasted stale, and lacked flavor. This was me and my friends' least favorite. The Lamb Rillette Croissant & Passionfruit Melon Pavlova were both okay but nothing mindblowing. They were flavorful and a good texture. Surprisingly, the Speck & Cheese was our favorite. Very flavorful and perfectly crispy with all the croissant layers.

    Baklava and potato pastries

We got the most popular sweet and savory pastry - baklava and potato and it worth going to Relic. I was a bit skeptical about getting the baklava as they tend to be too sweet for my liking. But I really enjoyed this...flaky crunchy outside and load of caramelized walnuts inside. The potato pastry was also delish. I personally would like more potato slices. It's slightly spicy. Again same flaky crunchy exterior. This place ranks high for me like Michi Michi. Tucked in the business area of Miramar, you'd never see this place driving by. It's a small stor front and there are no seating area inside. Just a few benches, 1 table and 1 chair and lawn area for dining. Pastries are reasonably priced especially on how good they are.

Pastries here were very good. Flaky and buttery but not overly sweet. Service was great. Fast and friendly. Limited tables but it works. Grassy area where people brought blankets and sat there while eating this Deliciousness. If be back again and again

Had an opportunity to try the following to go order back in August 16: 1 Apple Fritter 1 Banana Miso Milk Chocolate Cookies 1 Lamb Rillette Croissant 1 Matcha Kouign Amann 1 Passionfruit & Melon Pavlova Danish 1 Potato Cheddar & Garlic Confit Tile with Karanchi Chili Crisp Oil 2 Tangerine Crannoli 2 Tiramisu Cinnamon Bun Everything is so good! Expensive, but worth it! Yelp was right though. The Potato Cheddar & Garlic Confit Tile with the additional $ for chili oil is so worth it! The lamb rillette croissant is also really really good. I really enjoyed the banana miso milk and the matcha kouign amann for the sweet pastries. Can't wait to go back!

Pick up order from their ghost kitchen- liked the option of location close to home. Easy ordering from Hotplate site. Awesome customer service, I had received a gift card for the cafe that could not be used on Hotplate, they were able to exchange gift card for me. Favorite item from the order was Almond Bear Claw, flakey, buttery and delicious. You can definitely taste the quality ingredients in all the pastries. My only disappointment was the Double Pain Au Chocolat. I was expecting it to look like the picture from the website-maybe a bad batch? I wouldn't have picked this one from a display case. Regardless all good and looking forward to visiting the cafe.

    Lindsey L.

Was in La Jolla for the weekend and was on the top lists of cafes I wanted to try. However, I had a hard time trying to find the exact location (and if it was actually opened due to closing for a period of time) because it wasn't listed back in August. Preordering and the pick up experience was very easy and straightforward. When preordering, there was a lot of sold out items, so definitely make sure to pre order early if you would like to try some of their popular pasteries. I really liked the peach bread pudding- sweet and loved the textures. The matcha pastry was a little underwhelming because the matcha was very subtle.

Relic is amazing--full stop. Absolutely worth the drive from North County (even with bad traffic from an accident). We tried 6 pastries: the KFC Famous Bowl, the Crunch Wrap, the summer squash, the charcuterie, the tiramisu, and the double chocolate. All were excellent, but the savory ones were the standouts for their originality, uniqueness, and quality. The KFC one was a highlight, and I'd order a bucket of Relic's chicken if I could. The crunch wrap really tasted like elevated Taco Bell. But the charcuterie was probably my favorite overall. The croissants themselves evoke a pillsbury croissant in the best possible way with their layers you can peel off layer-by-layer. The cappuccino was also solid. All in all a phenomenal place!

Potato with chili oil, tiramisu cinnamon roll, beanies weenies, elevated ham, cheese, jalapeno, and banana miso chocolate cookie

Finally had a chance to try Relic. Loved the pre-order and super easy pick up. We placed an order on Friday night for Saturday pick-up. Pro-tip: don't bother trying to park in the parking lot. It's small and one way in and out. Street parking is plenty. Walk in and they had all the orders ready. There was actually another pop-up at the same time but I think they were pretty new. Seemed like everyone was going to Relic and not to Bakemellow. We ordered: Potato with chili oil, tiramisu cinnamon roll, beanies weenies, elevated ham, cheese, jalapeno, and banana miso chocolate cookie My favorites were the savory ones, specifically the potato garlic one and added the chili oil. Second best was the elevated ham, cheese, and jalapeno. Beanies weenies was last. For the sweet ones, the tiramisu cinnamon roll was ok. Was less like a cinnamon roll and too much cream imo. Banana miso chocolate cookie wasn't too my liking but my husband enjoyed it. They have other ones we'll have to come back and try.

    Elizabeth A.

For the price I paid for the pastries, I was really disappointed in the banana miso chocolate chip cookie because mine did not look like the other pictures where it was too thick and bready where it was crumbly with each bite. It tasted more like a crumbly banana bread or muffin than a cookie where it broke apart after the first bite. Flavor was interesting with the banana mixed with sweet and savory that was unique. As for the other pasties I ordered, the double chocolate croissant and the lamb riclette were very delicious and flaky.

    Marie M.

Relic Bakery is probably one of my favorite, if not my only favorite, artisan pastry bakeries in San Diego. Flavor combinations and presentation has always been on point. I have yet to try something and been disappointed. The staff service has been A+ and always helpful when asking what is what and explaining certain ingredients. I truly look forward to Relic's pastry drops every week and I cannot wait until their actual bakery store front opens soon!

Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. BIG TIP: Bring your mother or mother-in-law here to impress -- that is, if she likes cute, sweet treats and a tea party vibe! My mom always loves coming here, and bringing the whole family, too Keep up the great work Flour Atelier!

This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! LOCATED INSIDE ANOTHER STORE Located inside a store called Floral Palette, which is a floral shop and specialty gift store. Beautiful store! The sign is big, so you cannot miss it!

The employees are a mixture of a well oiled machine and great customer service. I was worried about…read moremy meter running out and was asking if i could run out real quick to add more but they coordinated on the spot and finishes my drink by the time i completed my payment. They were amazing!!! I got the biscoff matcha latte with the biscoff foam and a few slices of cake. It was soooo good. I'm going try to plan for some relaxing time next time. The inside was beautiful and peaceful. Looks like a great place to start my day.

Hinar in downtown is such a beautiful and aesthetic spot. I love their earthy color palette (I want…read morethat paint color in my house lol) and the overall vibe of the cafe. The main seating area is almost always full, but there's more indoor seating in the back through the hallway (where the bathroom is), plus some outdoor seating to the side. The drinks are really good. I always get mine half sweet, and the flavors are consistently great. They also have a ton of cute, picturesque desserts. They're a bit too sweet for my taste, but you can tell a lot of care goes into making them and they're definitely tasty. Parking can be tricky downtown, and it can get busy with lines, but it's totally worth it for the drinks, desserts, and overall ambiance. FYI, they have a new location up north in Scrips Poway, it's cute but slightly different aesthetic (umm more industrial) and is in a strip mall, so, way more parking!
