I took my 2007 Tahoe to Reliable about 10 years ago. The 4L80 had gone out and he was the lowest price I could find. When I picked it up, there was a small issue. After some banter back and forth David agreed to correct the situation and the transmission (that went out at 90,000 miles) now has over 200,000 miles on it and runs like it should. No issues. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. My 2010 Silverado has a 6L80 that went out. Got a price from two other shops for over $7k. I remembered David at Reliable and called him. I had it towed there and they rebuilt the transmission. When I picked it up it started running hot a couple of days later. I took it back and dropped it off. David, at no charge, supplied and installed a transmission cooler. I picked it up a couple of days ago and now the transmission temps are MUCH lower and it runs fine. $4,500 at Reliable vs $7k+ elsewhere. Also, I almost forgot, I had lost the key to the truck. David had it towed there for $100 (it cost me $190 to have it towed home prior to this from about 1/2 the distance). Then he had his lock guy make me two new chip keys and an extra to get in the door for a little over $100. Everywhere I had called to come cut a new key wanted $150+ for one chip key and $50 for a second on. read more

This was by far one of the worst experiences ever it was a nightmare from beginning to end. It started with a phone to the owner David I explained to him that I had taken my car to the dealership and the suggested a transmission replacement David repeatedly told me that they could rebuild it so I had my car towed his shop that night talked to him the following day everything was good a week and a half later I haven't heard from anybody at the shop with about a diagnosis so I show up to the shop to find my car in the very back of the shop in a tall grassy area one of the technicians suggested that I give david a call and I do as I'm standing in the parking lot he proceeded to tell me they don't have my car and I was at the wrong shop. I tell him "yes sir you do I can walk back to my car now" he then tells me "don't walk on to my property I would hate to have you arrested for trespassing" I just blow off and being describing my car then after about 10 mins or so he's like "oh yea I know which one your talking about you have a CVT Transmission and those can't repaired you need a new transmission", which I told him prior to having my car towed there, I tell him I'm going to arrange for my car to be picked up by a tow truck so I arrange the pick up he tells me he is not going to pull my car out of the grassy area in the back of his shop because it will take to long and he closes in 30 mins so he denies the tow truck driver when he arrives there I call him back to find out why? And We go through the whole I don't have your car here situation again for another 6 mins we finally figure which car is mine he tells me i can pick up my car the following day I don't owe him anything and to f*** off and hangs up so call back I ask him why was he so upset and being rude "his response this is not personal you will have to spend the money anyways and hangs up." The next day when the tow truck driver arrives he does not pull my car out he makes him drive around back to and alley to pull it out of there. At the price he's charging I expected at the very least professionalism and good customer service So I warn you do not do business with this establishment and I will tell this to everyone that I know! read more

reverse gear was not working, while my truck was on the outside lift they left the window down and it rained. i had a working rear view camera before they started, it doesnt work now, the just threw my console back together with no screws not installing it properly, also they just left the change that was in the console all over the floor not even attempting to make it look professional. never will i or would never recomend this place to anybody,you know how good the repair is when he says its only a 6 month warranty. garbage! read more

I never write reviews; however, others need to be aware and cautious if moving forward with services here. Personally, I REGRET taking my truck here for my transmission repair! I have NEVER had this bad of an experience with a shop like this before. If you want someone that promises you whatever is needed to make you feel good about getting your vehicle repaired with their shop and then lies, threatens, forges a customer signature and then argues with you every step of the way, then this is the place for you. Below is my experience here. The owner never had a work up of the documentation when I came to pick up my truck and asked that I sign a blank form (NO WAY am I doing that!), then can't produce an invoice for signature either and I personally had to go to his office to help him email it to me so I had documentation. The owner later told the warranty company over the phone (they called me on the other line) that he did not have any of the documentation, that I did (good thing I took a picture of the write up after I had him fill it out and sign it before I did). I ended up sending the work up and unsigned PDF invoice on his behalf to get them paid with the owner on copy. Thinking the signature on the work up would suffice. He has yet to receive payment due to not having the correct mileage he originally reported, signature on the PDF and decides to send an invoice, assuming mistakenly to only me, with my signature forged in the customer signature line. Calls me after I send him an email with all the documentation/mismatching signatures and tells me one of his employees signed it. Then threatens to pick up my vehicle as a repo since he has yet to get paid in 1 week from submission to the warranty company. Then wants me to again handle dealing with the warranty company so he can get payment. UNBELIEVABLE! So much more that transpired with this transaction. Comments (after picking up stating that he has had others return in just a month or so with failing transmission repairs, that this is like a marriage and will be working together still) changing of stories (stating my thermostat was also changed and when I went to pick up he is on the phone with the parts distributor to confirm if the part was delivered and that's how he would know if the repair was done!), lack of communication, etc. The transmission is still having issues! Although he would like to take a look at the truck again/possibly repair, the experience was so dirty, so terrible, that even though they offer a 1 year/12k mi warranty (only if you take it back to them in 2 weeks for inspection) I would rather pay out of pocket and go somewhere else. Hopefully payment is processed for the work soon so I can terminate this repair relationship and never deal with them again. In my opinion, look past the good reviews and run very very far away! A faulty steering column I detected as the my transmission went out realizing I was driving in 3rd gear without knowing it due to the malfunction. I had to make a decision and stepped outside my insurance membership discounts and accepted Reliable Transmissions one year policy to repack the gears and inspection of other 4x4 featured components such that of the transfer case. Well, within that time frame, my vehicle was serviced, inspected, and I've gone well over 100K+ miles. Definitely received a quality repair worth the true value of a costly repair. I will always check with Reliable Transmissions with respect of understanding, cause/effect of certain mechanical issue, and the ti me it takes to handle difficult repairs. I called in advance to get an estimate to have my differential rebuilt assuming he had done it before and he quoted me about $1000. After i get my car towed there he tells me its gonna cost $2500. The truck is a 1998 and only worth about $2000. He told me if i didnt get the repairs he would have to charge me $740 to put my truck back together. I told him why would i pay you that much money just for you to tell me what i already know. This guy is a crook and and shady business man. Do yourself a favor and dont go here he will take yr car apart and make you pay high prices to repair it or do you like me and made me pay $475 just to get it towed from his shop and parts in a box in the back of my truck read more

I had a great experience. There were some hiccups in diagnosing as with any place but the owner/manager was quick to reply, showed me my engine and the damaged parts. Very helpful when I was without a car. I think the negative comments are because some people just don't understand how hard it is to pinpoint every issue. Mechanics don't know the full extent of any repair until they have it apart. I was thankful in regards to the great communication every step of the way and I would recommend this place to my family. read more

This is the worst place to go to if your in need for a Transmissions rebuilt!!!! Took my car in with a check engine code for a slipping transmission component. So they kept my car for less then 24 hours and called me a said it needed a rebuilt and that they had a special for $1495 which was a flat rate for a full transmission rebuilt, which was perfect seeing as I found out as I shopped around all other places were charging $3000 and up. So I agreed to go through with the repairs, in which I felt would take at least a weeks time seeing all the gears ands seals and gaskets and solenoids that would be replaced when rebuilding a transmission. But, man was I wrong they called me back the next day less than 24 hours should I mention letting me know my transmission was fully rebuilt and my car was ready for pick up! Which i definitely felt was weird. So about 2 days later I go to pick my vehicle up and their was no one who could tell me what exactly was the problem that was causing trouble in my transmission are anything, so then I asked to speak with the mechanic who actually did the rebuilt, who was very very rude by the way and couldn't remember one thing he had replaced on my transmission which one again was very very weird to me seeing he did this so called full rebuilt in less than 24 hours time period I would think one person would definitely remember exactly what was done but no he didn't wanna speak and felt as read more

It all started in mid-December when I called to inquire regarding transmission work on my SUV. I'd already called a few other shops and gotten quotes but Tim at Reliable Transmissions went above and beyond in the initial conversation by referring me to Austin Key Guy when I mentioned having trouble gaining access to the vehicle (see my review for Austin Key Guy). Reliable picked the vehicle up for me, did their diagnosis and quoted a fair price considering the amount of work required. Then I got laid off and couldn't afford to have the work done or get my car out of their shop. This is where the 5 star review begins. Over the course of several months I coordinated with Tim and David. They not only offered to give a small discount provided cash payment but also bent over backwards to help me pickup the car after hours despite having left it with them for an extended period of time while trying to get the money in order to make payment. I've had a lot of experiences with auto shops ranging from good to bad. This is the first experience that I can describe as genuinely friendly. If you are considering any other shop in t he area do yourself a favor and go to Reliable Transmissions first! read more

We filed a dispute with the Better Business Bureau in hope of some kind of resolution/mediation with Dave, the owner, but he never responded to the BBB requests. Our entire experience can be read at the BBB website, so I won't rehash that here. I know someone else commented that people don't understand that it's tough for a mechanic to pinpoint every issue with a car, and I completely agree. My negative rating is due to the fact that Reliable Transmission gladly takes your money (cash only I might add) and then when the work is not done correctly and you seek a solution, Dave tells you that he doesn't like your attitude and to never return to his shop. It seems that this is a tactic of Dave's. I just wanted to make sure my review stated Dave's name because if anyone has hopes of dealing with someone in upper management or a more savvy business owner, sorry, but Dave is the owner. I'm not sure how he has stayed in business this long. My guess is that he changes the name of his business once the bad reviews increase in numbers. Way too expensive than anyone else (I checked after the fact). Stay away! They'll sweet talk you into needing to fix other issues that seemingly need attention. They'll even bribe you to write a good yelp review in exchange for some free oil change or something. If you can, shop around. read more

I initially spoke with Tim Roos, who portrayed himself as the owner of the shop. I told him the symptoms, and he said that there was no one there to look at it at that time but that they would take a look at it first thing in the morning. He also said that at that time, he would give me a quote. He connected me with the nearest car rental agency and they offered me a discount for being referred by Reliable. Good deal. Tim did call me back the next morning and said that I needed a new master cylinder/clutch assembly. I wasn't surprised at the quote: I know manual transmission replacements are costly. My quote was $1,130.69. I agreed to the charges. Tim called me back on Thursday to let me know that my vehicle was ready for pick-up. I made it there at around 5 pm, after turning in my rental car. Tim was still there. He told me that I must return for a two-week inspection in order to honor the warranty, and about the requirement to bring the vehicle back in 48 hours if there were any problems. He took my money, I took my car and drove away. I had more errands to run after I left there. The car seemed to be working fine. The problem started as I was headed home after my errands. It felt as though there was a brick under my clutch petal as I would attempt to change gears. At first I was still able to change gears. By Friday, this was a repetitive issue and I would get stuck in gear. I called Reliable Transmission on Friday to let them know about the issue, and to let them know that I would be returning in the morning for them to take a look. I was willing to take the risk and drive the car back to the shop (I live in Austin), even though it was clearly unsafe to do so. I spoke with David Roos this time (not Tim). I explained the symptoms to him. David told me that HIS shop is, wait for it, CLOSED on Saturdays!!!!!! First of all, what kind of automotive shop is closed on Saturdays, the biggest money-making day of the week for the service industry??? Anyway, he told me that I could bring my car there, but that it would be sitting at the shop until Monday when his mechanics returned. I explained that this was an emergency and needed immediate attention. As the owner, I asked him why he couldn't look at it, especially since he was physically at the shop at the time of my call. He kept saying that my vehicle may need a part and that even if he looked at it, he would not be able to order a part on a Saturday. Ummmm, okay. I said, "Well how will you know what it needs until you take a look? It may just need to be readjusted or bled". In so many words, David basically said clutch systems don't need to be readjusted and that I didn't know what I was talking about. I asked for Tim's number, who, if you remember, presented himself as the owner of the shop. David refused to provide that information, and informed me that he himself is the owner. After professionally arguing with David for several minutes, I got off the phone and agreed to come in on Monday. I had my sister follow me to the shop first thing Monday morning, and David was there. There was no trace of Tim. Tim's business cards were even gone. Only David's cards sat on the reception desk. David agreed to look at the car and tell me what was wrong by the end of the day. Guess what he said? He said, "It might just need to be adjusted"! Anyway, I called several times that day to check on the status of my vehicle. David kept saying they could find nothing wrong, but that they would keep test driving until the problem resurfaced. By the end of the day, he informed me that his mechanics bled it out and that it was all working fine. But he said he would continue to run tests until I got back there. So, once I got back at around 5 pm, he said it was fine and that I could drive it home. So I told my sister, who picked me up from work and drove me back to the shop to pick up my car that she could leave. Conveniently, as soon as she pulled off, David comes out the back and tells me I need a new slave cylinder because the one I have is worn. He said that was the issue causing the problem. I asked him why he, Tim, or none of his mechanics noticed the "worn slave cylinder" when I initially dropped off the car on February 10. He said something lame like, "we weren't able to see that because that's not what we were initially checking" or something like that. He tried to make a deal that he wouldn't charge me for the labor, just the part, if I wanted them to replace the slave cylinder. After giving him several puzzled looks and repeatedly questioning the validity of his statements, I declined. I decided it wasn't worth having the same lame, unprofessional, closed on Saturdays, dishonest owners/mechanics working on my vehicle, even if it was free labor. Don't take your car here unless you enjoy these types of experiences. read more

A friend purchased a trailer from David Roos at Reliable Transmission and Automotive thru Craigs List. It was a trade and 150 cash purchase. Was asked about origin certificate not being in Davids name and date was in 5/2012 or13. David reassured my friend and me that if there is any trouble getting plates to contact him and we had his business card. Well in order to get plates my friend would have had to pay 250 in previous owners past fines for not registering it and getting plates within 30 days required by TX. Which my friend fid not know nor was advised by David. I a witness to transaction called left message then texted David. He called did not leave a message or answer my text. I retexted next day and he said my friend was aware of what he was getting and would do nothing for him. My friend accepted that. But I told David I would not reccomend him or his company to any of my friends and neighbors. He threatened to sue me and that I could lose my house if I put any of this in writting. He was so inapproprite to even say I was having an affair on my husband (who ive been separated from for two years and been to divorce court last month)with him and what would my husband think of us being so touchy feely? We were not even holding hands.I asked him to stop texting me and threatening to sue me I was just the witness not buyer. I had the right to not reccomend them to our friends and neighbors if I choose. read more

I went to Reliable first because it advertised in-house financing, turns out t's in-house layaway. Automatically I was told transmission needed to be rebuilt - no surprise, most expensive repair- to skip all the boring details. I had to bring the car back 3 times, never fixed after $2341.00. On the third time he said the computer says its a computer problem another $575.00, my first thought was what did the computer say the first time- oh yeah, it wasn't put on a computer, I was just told for $475.00 they'll check it out and darn it the transmission was "wore out". I picked up the car and was told $600.00 I told the person I was told $575.00 she called Mr.Roos, his answer "oops I forgot what I told him"..... I took him to court for paying 2341.00 for a 575.00 fix..... I mean $2916.00 , the judge ruled in his favor because he DID rebuild the tranny whether I need it or not. So now Roos has the go ahead to rip off anyone he wants. You may want to stay away from here unless you just want your transmission rebuilt.....It did drag in 2nd gear but after all the BS I just wanted to be away from them. I only gave them 1 star because it won't let me leave none. read more
