The lady who helped me was super friendly and made me feel welcomed. It was highly recommended from the person who gifted me the gift certificate to either book with Wendy, due to her pressure of really getting in those tight areas, or May, who was also really great. It just so happened May was available for the time that worked for me. The spa is clean, May came to greet me right on time, she asked me if I had any area's I wanted her to focus on, and checked in on me multiple times throughout the massage to confirm her pressure was ok. I will start by saying I get massages VERY often and prefer firm pressure. Usually places don't even do it firm enough. I decided to give this place a try because of the price and availability. They have a phone number you can text and they respond very quick which is nice but that's probably the only good quality about this place. I came in for the 90 minute back pressure massage and requested Ivy. The bathroom was very interesting...there was a shower and bucket but it doesn't seem like it's for customers. It didn't feel very clean. Anyways when I got ready for my massage, there was no indication when the masseuse was actually going to come in so I rushed to get ready. When she came in, I was waiting for her to ask me what hurt and what areas I wanted to work on...instead she asked me what was wrong because I was looking at her... As for the massage, there was no method and she would work on random areas longer than others and one side more than the other. Not because that side or area needed more work. My lower back was the part that was hurting really bad and that's what I wanted to focus on but she did not even touch my lower back. She kept burping during our session and I felt her body press up against the wall while she used one arm to lean into me while she used the other to massage me. When it came to the hot stones, she didn't tell me when they were being applied, she randomly slapped them on in the middle of the session, they were super hot, and kept sliding off and falling on the side on my body about 9 different times. She wouldn't even notice for quite some time and would eventually throw them back on my back where they would just slide off again. Where it went really wrong was the pressure and what she did to my spine. I kept telling her lighter pressure and she acknowledged it but didn't go any lighter. I was sweating, making noises, and moving my body from being in so much pain but she didn't change anything. She kept ELBOWING and using her knuckles to press into my spine, especially where your neck and spine meet, between your shoulders. Anyone knows that massaging and especially elbowing bone is a HUGE safety issue and should never be done. I was trying to sit through it and tried not be rude, but eventually I was in so much pain I told her to end the session 30 minutes early as I couldn't take it anymore and was worried. I was in so much pain and couldn't really move. This wasn't a sore pain you feel after a deep massage, this was "is something bruised" "do I need to go to see my doctor" pain. What made things worse was when I went to check out, the front desk lady didn't seem to realize I came out 30 minutes early! She looked at my tip and questioned why it was so little (I paid the full 90 massage price AND tipped). I told her that it was way too hard and I was in pain. She proceeded to tell me in mandarin why I was wrong and how it was just firm pressure. This is really upsetting because no one should ever elbow someone's spine and neck bone, no matter how light or firm pressure is! It was extremely loud outside as well. There was a man talking on the phone, people talking very loud to each other...not a very relaxing setting. I came into this wanting to be relaxed, hoping to be in less pain, and instead I was even more stressed out and literally could not even lay against a pillow for 3 days at home. My spine felt like it had been burned and bruised. I regret not waiting for an opening at my usual place.

Anyway, I eventually moved to the Peninsula, got a car, and went back to Carrina. She's amazing. One of my pet peeves is when massage therapists don't listen to what you actually need when you tell them and just do their normal routine. Carrina is refreshingly different because she actually listens to what you tell her when you explain what's happening and why you're there to see her, and she somehow magically finds and works out all the knots - even the ones I didn't know I had. Absolutely recommend Carrina and worth the monthly investment as part of self care!

Luckily I came out of it with bruised bones / road rash and nothing broken and no internal trauma. Ever since the accident I have had issues with my right shoulder, especially as I work with my hands as a auto/motorcycle mechanic and maintenance mechanic for industrial coffee equipment like roasters & grinders as well as side work doing fabrication / repairs etc. I have really gnarly knots and issues in my right shoulder that require someone who basically is trying to kill me with their elbows, but knows what they are doing. Here is how the massages have gone with their respective names. Mia - Really great massage that is fairly strong. She was able to recognize fairly quickly that the center of my back just below my neck and along the left side of my shoulder blade has knots. She spent some time working on it and was very good. Spent equal time around the rest of my back as well. Eva - One of the partners of the shop who has 15+ years of experience. Sometimes when you get a massage it is obvious its a bit like rewatching a movie. Same movements, same pattern, over and over with no particular attention to detail. Eva is exactly OPPOSITE of this. Think of a specialty trained sniper honing in on a target from miles away. That is Eva. She immediately found the knots, bad shoulder etc. She asked me about it and I was able to convey all the issues. She also speaks the best English out of everyone else I have tried if you need to clearly convey an issue. She really knows what she is doing and was able to break up the problems really really well. Not quite as strong as the others, but that doesn't matter based on her technical skill. Really really excellent. Gina - I have been getting massages since about 2008ish. Hands down, without a doubt with only 1 exception via someone who left the industry Gina is the strongest person I have ever received a massage from. I have had a lot of walking on back massages that add pressure, but Gina was able to apply more force via her elbows bending over me from the side of the table than anyone who has walked on my back. She is not as technically skilled as Eva, but the strength is amazing. Now what is REALLY cool about this place is Eva's flexibility with my admittedly poor time management. I get 2 hour massages and recently specifically requested Gina due to her strength. She wouldn't be available until later, but I was in a time crunch. Eva who remembered me from a past visit offered to perform the first hour then let Gina take over the 2nd hour. So I got sniper Eva who worked out the fine details, then Gina at the end to use her Thor's hammer strength to finish the job. A last detail here. The showers are actually clean and nice. I like to get all the oil off of me at the end of a massage. I don't mind oil in a massage, but I hate feeling oily after. Some places I have been in have a shower that looks like its owned by a frat house. Mold, soap scum, a mildew smell, disgusting. When I had my first shower here a candle was lit, I was given a fresh towel, and everything was stocked and clean. Water is blisteringly hot too which is fantastic. No need for me to try new places. The only other place I would recommend at this point is Avee 9 in Redwood City due to the skill level of their walking on back massages using oil. That's a super hard technique to perform and they nail it. It is noisy there though and no shower. I moved from Redwood City to South San Francisco, thus why I gave comfort pro a shot. 10/10 would recommend. Haven't had a bad experience yet.
