On a whim I bought this Groupon for $38 thinking it was a steal for the value. Originally was looking for any feet reflexology to deal with being on my feet for hours on end in my job. Unfortunately, the experience was not what I expected at all and really wish it was better. Biggest concern to be aware of is this is a high-pressured massage with masseuses that might not be fully trained. Several times pressure was put on areas that shouldn't have hard pressure such as knees, hips, neck, and if you have an injury of any kind make sure to have someone who understands English. I wish I could communicate well with the masseuse but she understood little English. She was a lovely lady but it was hard for her to understand things I did not want her to do. Additionally, I REALLY wish they told me they are a cash only tipping area. I only had a few dollars and wanted to tip her well. I tried to communicate to her that I was going to head to the bank real quick since a tip on card incurs an additional transactional fee. But she didn't understand at all and unfortunately the front desk didn't tell her what was going on after I spoke to him about the running to the bank for more cash. This caused her to panic and run to my car across the street which again made it difficult to explain to her what I was trying to do and frankly was alarming since I've never had someone leave their business and follow me to my car. I ended up giving her the $7 I had on me instead of the $20 I wanted to give her. You leave you're clothes on, so be sure to wear loose fitting clothing. You're in a big room with other people. The thing that is so amazing to me is how they do such a good job while you are fully clothed. My therapist started with my face, head, and neck. Then moved to me arms and feet. The focus of the massage is on your feet and lower legs. She rubbed the right side front of my leg and it felt like heaven. I felt like she got places most places gloss over. After your feet she briefly did the back of my upper legs and then moved onto my back and ended with my neck and shoulders. Making an appointment was easy. I'd really like to give Relax Foot Spa in Wicker Park, a 1.5 star rating because I was really grateful for their availability for an appointment within 15 minutes near closing time but the service was absolutely horrendous. An effective massage therapist will listen to both the client and their body to provide a comfortable and relaxing massage but the therapists here perform a routine massage without considering the needs of their client. I was never asked about any focus areas, pressure preference, or even if I was comfortable. I was sitting on the edge of the table with no instruction and then a man comes over and just says lay down. No "hello", "how are you", or introduction. I understand that this is a bargain massage establishment but these three basics are a must for the start of any decent massage. I thought it was pretty odd that they switched service providers after the reflexology portion of my 60 min combo massage with hot stones ($42 on 2/27/21). The reflexology part wasn't the worst but it wasn't that great either, basic techniques with no relief afterwards. The height of this horror story was the multiple compressions over my groin area by the second therapist and I was honestly mortified at what had just happened but I couldn't say anything but only wished that the massage would be over soon. When I turned face down, my male therapist asked me to take my shirt and bra off when there's no privacy whatsoever ever so I had him cover me with the towel and to leave, which he did but I felt this was still pretty cringey. Next we have the mechanical strokes with this man's elbows bumping into my spine over, and over again with no remorse. Why?! I am now feeling sore with some inflammation near my upper spine as I type out this review. Keep in mind it's the cheap, Asian style so you're in a big room with a bunch of people getting massages, you only take your socks & shoes off - nothing else! They don't focus on specific areas, it's a general massage with the most emphasis on feet. I was a bit hesitant on having a male give my massage but it ended up working out okay. Sure his hands smelled like smoke and he had to cough up some things sometimes from smoking...but he did a good job! haha It sucked he didn't wash his hands before starting though and that I heard him in the back hacking before getting started. Reading over reviews, it seems everyone says the same thing. Just have this dude wash up and your reviews will get better! Because he really does a good job aside from that. The WORST massage I have ever received. I left with my upper back feeling constantly SORE for 3 days. Preface: my friend took me to this spa after trying out the massages 2-3 times himself and he thought they were fantastic. However, when we both went to get a massage, it was his WORST experience and also my only but last experience here. We got the combo massage that covers foot and body. The foot massage was great; it was my first time getting a foot massage but I didn't feel any pain when the massage was over. The body portion of the massage made me feel excruciating pain to the point that I held my breath at times as the massage carried on, hoping it would end! That's a bad sign when I WANT a massage to end. I was never asked how I felt during the massage and they also skipped over doing arms. I'm sad to say that what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing experience ended being an unforgettable event in a terrible manner. I will start by saying I have had about 40 massages like this at similar places in the city and this place was by far one of the worst! I decided to give them a try because of their 70-min Groupon special. Since there weren't really any positive moments, let me give you all the negative moments: 1. When I arrived, they quickly ran me back to bed in the back of the room. No hello, no welcome just a let me see your Groupon. He put my feet in a bucket of cool water 2. The head and neck rub were extremely weak. I asked for hard pressure and got nothing 3. The hand and arm massage never took place 4. He started rubbing my feet and legs by dumping half a bottle of baby oil all over my legs and feet. While his hands slid all over there was no pressure at all 5. As I was on my back, I could hear people moving around me and the strong scent of pine. I looked under my towel/mask and someone was literally mopping the floors around me as I was getting my massage. It was so weird (the place was loud during the entire 70 minutes) 6. He turned my over for the back massage portion and dumped the other half of the baby oil all over my back. It was disgusting. Again, no pressure at all 7. As I was on my stomach, I heard someone TAKING A PISS in the bathroom next to my bed. they didn't shut the door. Just stood there and PISSED WITH THE DOOR OPEN, flushed and didn't wash their hands! 8. After the massage was FINALLY over, I got up to find 4 men sitting in jackets on the couch at the foot of my massage bed. They were just sitting there on their phones and staring. 9. I got dressed and gave the guy a $10 tip (I didn't want to stiff him). He looked at me and said really and started speaking in a foreign language to the guys on the couch as they all laughed. My issue with this place is not the massage experience. I've been here a few times before and never had an issue. My issue is the extremely rude lady at the front desk from yesterday. It's one thing to not be able to resolve my issue but it's another thing for her to raise her voice and talk to me in a rude and loud enough manner for the other people to all turn my direction and look at us while she was speaking to me. She spoke to me as if I had no sense and then spoke rudely to another couple who came in after asking for massages, when she said they were booked the couple said they would just come back a different time, one of them asked if they could use their washroom before they left. She said the restroom was for customers only when they were just trying to be customers a minute ago. I'm disappointed with the customer service and will not be returning for as long as that receptionist is still there. I could not believe her tone when it's a open space, she clearly does not care to keep it as a relaxing environment for others and does not seem to not be equipped/competent enough to handle situations that are not routine. read more

Similar to what other reviewers have said, Relax Foot Spa is more bang for your buck than other massage places in the area. However, knowing that the hour-long general massage is only $28, you can't expect the experience to be similar to what you'd get at the Ritz Carlton. Let me start with the ambience. The massage parlor is essentially one room, with the reception area separated by a screen. This means that everyone is out in the open and you are being massaged while surrounded by other people. With that said, you are fully clothed and the room is very quiet with relaxing music playing in the background. In terms of the massage itself, I think it's pretty great. You spend about half an hour on your back and then you flip over. I've gotten the signature massage several times and it seems to be different every time (sometimes I've gotten a scalp massage, which I love). The pressure is also pretty strong which I'm a big fan of. One important thing to note - there is a sign on the counter that encourages tipping at least $10. So if you think you can get out of there tipping $5 for a $28 massage, think again. I fully agree with this policy, because you can only imagine how some people would really skimp on the tip! Overall, this no frills place satisfies my needs when looking to relax for an hour. If you haven't been, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

He never asked if the pressure was okay, and I have no idea if he was new or not, but it was painful. The place seem clean and orderly with male and female masseuses, which I believe are equally skilled. You just don't know which gender will be assigned to you if you care about that (you might be able to specify, not sure). If I were to come to this place again, I'd tell the concierge to ask my assigned therapist to wash his/her hands clean first. Or they could have them wear gloves, which I've seen in other places. Relax Foot Spa is great if you're looking for a foot soak/rub and express body massage with your clothes on in an open room. The only privacy is a blanket draped over your body. First 5 minutes was focused on head while your pants are rolled up and feet soaked in warm water. It was another 20 minutes of feet, 5 minutes of hand, and 20 minutes full body. My masseuse used the a good pressure, and a gliding stroke technique. I've had real reflexology where the pressure points are targeted on your feet, and this was definitely not that! Overall, my body felt better the next day so it still served a purpose. You could see the front desk from the beds at the end of the room, which I thought was slightly awkward. It was easy to get an appointment in, but from the looks of it, walk-in would probably have been fine, too. read more
