I've only been here twice. First time was to check out the selection for a Cargo roof box and rails for my vehicle during the Memorial Day sale. My husband and I have no idea what we were looking into but the staff is very helpful. I believe it was Bill who helped us make a selection. I didn't know what the right fit would be for my vehicle. He was very informative about the products and promotions available during that time. I took some time to decide on what I wanted and ordered online. We went to go pick up my cargo roof box and rails. We wanted to have them install it for us initially but the services were not available due to the waitlist. I forgot the man's name who helped us but he quickly taught us how to put everything on our vehicle since it couldn't fit inside the car to take home. I would definitely would come back again since the customer service was amazing. I also got the best deal for my roof box compared to other places during the sale. They have a great selection of outdoor gear that I would like to buy. Store was clean and organized well. Nothing says "customer service" quite like being publicly scolded by a manager for using the return policy REI advertises. Daniel at REI Roseville made a point of calling out my return history in front of other customers, claiming my shoes had "over 500 miles" on them based on nothing more than his own guess, and threatening to leave notes on my account. I've been a member of REI since 1992. He also referred to my returns as "appeasements," which tells you everything you need to know about his attitude toward customers. REI advertises a one-year satisfaction guarantee. What I got instead was a public lecture, a completely unnecessary attempt to embarrass me, and a manager acting like he was there to scold me rather than help. He told me, in front of other customers, that this was "not my first return recently," announced that my return rate was 50%, pointed out that I had bought the same shoe in another color, and said he would leave notes on my account. What he conveniently left out is that I often buy multiple sizes or colors and return what does not work - all brand new - which is completely normal. Lastly, this was only the second used item I've ever returned - since 1992. REI Roseville turned a longtime customer into someone who now plans to avoid big purchases, stop using them for ski mounts, and possibly cancel a membership. Embarrassing behavior from a manager, and an even worse look for the store. read more

Love love love this place! My husband and I went last night around 8. As soon as I entered I ran towards the backpacks haha. Felt like a kid in a toy store here. Every person we talked to were all super nice and knowledgeable on everything! First person I talked to was Steve in the camping tent section. The guy knows his stuff and had good recommendations. We ended up not getting a tent since the one I wanted was sold out and I already had one shipping in (late). He explained how the membership works and I feel like it's definitely worth it for the trade and discount options. Then we went to shoes and the guy there was really patient answering our 101 questions about what to get. There were other people coming to the section were barking shoe requests at him (while he was in the middle of talking to us) and he politely told them he'd be with them next. The amount of patience this guy had because I was definitely getting annoyed at the rude entitled interruptions. I didn't catch his name though and didn't have my glasses to read his name tag. Lastly was the woman closing the register. She was super sweet and upbeat. I was surprised because most places would be visibly annoyed when people stay at closing. She talked to us about the classes they have (I plan on taking a few) The prices were a bit expensive but with discounts and sales their items were more affordable. Wow, REI only wants my business if I will do it exactly as they want it. Went to the REI at Galleria to buy Superfeet arch supports. I also needed Merlino wool glove liners. Great, so far, they have them both. They offered me a membership for $30 and a $30 gift card to use with a different purchase. So let me add this up. $54.95 for the arch supports, $29.50 for the glove liners and $30 for the membership. On a separate purchase, I wanted to use the $30 Gift credit for another pair of glove liners. Their answer, nope you need to come back a different day to use that gift credit. It's a 40 mile round-trip to get to this REI store ( gas plus my time definitely more than $30). Not a problem, I left with nothing. We stopped by REI to check out some snow packs to bring to Tahoe this weekend and brought our boards for the free machine wax member benefit. Upon walking in, we noticed significantly more sales/clearance racks here which was a nice surprise! Jared greeted us at the ski/bike shop and was super helpful. He evaluated my board and voluntarily sanded down the extra wax on my board before putting it through the machine wax. Jared also provided my SO with tips on binding positions based on board type. We're new to owning snowboards and still learning about what's required for proper upkeep so all the tips were very appreciated. The staff was also very patient and took the time to converse with the customers - which is more than I can say about other nearby REI locations. Other REI staff members were also helpful when we were checking out the different snow packs. Overall, great REI experience - we're willing to drive a bit further for this one! read more

Went to REI to shop for a bike for a 12 year old and didn't really know what to look for. Chuck, the sales person, was extremely helpful and took time to explain the different bikes and what features/options to look for based on expected use. A very positive experience . We did purchase from REI after shopping at Mike's bikes in downtown Roseville. Prices were similar but the customer experience at REI was far superior to Mike's bikes. read more

I shopped at all the REIs in the Sacramento area. This one in Roseville is the best of the three stores REI has in the area. The store is carrying similar items as the other REI stores. But the workers here are making a difference. They're more attractive and friendly. Don't get me wrong! The other REIs are good too! But this one in Roseville is the best in customer service! All the departments in this store are very close to the stores in Sacramento and Folsom. However, the kid's department is very tiny in this store. Make it hard to shop with the kids. The layout of the store is excellent. Navigating through the store is easy. I can find what I'm looking for in a few minutes. The parking lot is clean, and safe, and many parking spaces are available very closely to the entrance. read more

My friend brought his bike in for a some maintenance. When he came back to pick it up after the maintenance was done, he test drove the bike and realized that the bike wasn't changing any gears. REI and their service team broke his bike and are refusing to fix it. Their manager confirmed that they will not fix it. Do not waste your time with this store, they do not care about their customers. They are blaming him for the gears not working, but I rode with him a couple days before he brought it in, and the bike and the gears were working great. The family needed to stop in and pick up a few things for a Tahoe Ski Trip. REI always has a wide selection of outdoor clothes and gear. This particular store had a large selection of Snow shoes at 50% off. The store is clean. The people are helpful and the quality of the clothes are very good. The shopping center where the store is located has a lot of other options and lunch choices as well. We like this particular store because it always has what we need before heading up the mountain. REI, a great co-op for all your outdoor adventures. From rock climbing, biking, backpacking, hiking, skiing, running, yoga, even kayaking and more. REI has your supplies. Roseville store is a ground level store and it gets exceptionally busy. Customer service was decent, especially for the amount of customers present. Nice store, good spread of items. Seasonally the available items change, and with winter coming skiing takes the forefront. Tons of snow gear, winter wear, hand warmers, hats, gloves, ski jackets and pants available. I came to buy these items for an upcoming trip to Idaho. Very nice and pretentious apparel available, if you can afford $150 sweaters. Ahh, I missed the smell of REI, and the men with handlebar mustaches and flannel plaid shirts browsing the aisles. Feels like home. Take in the smell of Patagonia outerwear. Great camping gear, I like to camp and hike. They have a large selection of dehydrated foods for camping, camping stoves, really nice cots, tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags. This REI had a great selection compared to the numerous ones I've visited in California recently. It has a huge floor plan layout that's easy to navigate and tons of staff around willing to help in case you do get lost in the rough. I specifically came by to look at their selection of outdoor hats and was pleasantly surprised to find many options I didn't even seen in the online store. Not only did they have the Patagonia one I wanted but I found three more hats I was just dying to have AND for reasonable prices, making it oh so hard to choose just one. On top of that, they had a big REI branded merch sale at the front including Hydro Flasks and national park tees. This REI is located right across the Westfield Galleria mall and adjacent to a couple other big shopping centers. There's tons of parking and great food options close by. I highly recommend this location for all your REI needs... even over the website. read more

I love REI. This is the Nordstrom of sports stores. They have high quality merchandise, great customer service plus they stand behind what they sell. I had a pair of hiking boots that had an issue with the sole coming away from the boot. I brought it in and they gave me a new pair without a problem or a third degree. read more

Bought some Merrell hiking shoes at this REI ($180) at the beginning of July '25 and returned them by the end of the month as they were wearing badly. The sales associate refused to reimburse me as they said that I had put too many hours on them. That's right, too many hours! I asked to speak to the manager and repeated what I had advised the horrible sales associate. The manager was just as bad stating that there was, in fact, an hourly limit per shoe, 600 hours. I advised him that I only wore them for 6 days during the 3 weeks I had them and that I hiked for a maximum of 4 hours per hike, nowhere near 600 hours. I was also never advised that there was a maximum number of hours I could hike with them when I bought them. Additionally, I was never advised that these $180 shoes would literally break down after such a short period of time. Felt like I was at a car dealership leasing a car with a maximum amount of miles on a car, but worse customer service. The manager was definitely Not going to reimburse me until it was apparent that the people in line behind me started to take notice of his ridiculous argument at which time he agreed to reimburse me And since my wife was also buying some $75 slip ons. I will NEVER shop at REI again. Horrible customer service and way overpriced. If it were up to me, they would have received Zero stars, but you must leave at least one star. read more

Brought my bike in for a hub service and front derailer alignment. Here's my experience: - Reassembled my hub, then when I called AFTER they did the service they told me that it was pitted. If the thing is busted, communicate that before further work please! - I picked up the bike, I took a test spin around the parking lot, the shifter literally would not shift anymore. The shifter was fine when I dropped it off, just a bit clunky. Upon return, it would not shift at all. Nobody mentioned this to me when I picked up. Good thing I ran a test loop! I brought it back in and they blamed a crash I had three weeks prior though I have been riding the bike daily since, check my Strava. - I paid the $80 they wanted for the new shifter just to get the situation over with, appreciate them not charging labor on that and discounting the new shifter. Least they can do I suppose. - Sold me an REI membership, and then told me they would no longer provide services in the future. Not quite sure how that makes sense but okay. - Blamed me for lack of communication even though I called each day for updates and they didn't communicate externally. Albert did call me once, left a voicemail about the condition of the free hub (I had already talked with them about this). - Lied to me when I picked up that they had left a voicemail about the shifter situation, they did not. Good thing voicemails are recorded! Making things right is really not that complicated, seriously just communicate and be relatively reasonable about things. If you return somebody's bike worse than it was given to you, own up to it and make it right. Honestly nobody here seems to be super rude or anything, just a totally bizarre way to run a bike shop. read more

I have been meaning to try different running shoes, since all the ones I have feel uncomfortable three miles in. The employee was super helpful, answering my questions about which type of shoe may be best for long distance running. He told me about the benefits of the shoe I ended up deciding on and told me he had recently taken an informational class about how the shoe I picked offers stability. I ended up going home and ordering the shoe online from REI since I didn't care for the color they had in store. This is a review of "the shop" within the REI Roseville-Galleria store. Since REI has reviews for all kinds of outdoor gear and customer service throughout the store, I wanted to specifically recommend the bike and snow repair services offered through the shop. The mechanic team at this location is super high caliber and have worked on both my bikes and skis. They've done full bike tunes including suspension and brake bleeding work and did a full tune on my skis, and all of this was done within two-days of dropping the gear off. Really can't recommend bringing your gear to these techs enough. They treat your gear as if it's their own! read more

I received a backpacking fitting, and it was very helpful. Without this fitting, I would have completely bought the wrong size. Throughout the 1990's until November 1, 2016, I always shopped at the following REI stores' locations: Berkeley, San Francisco, Concord, Corte Madera, and Santa Rosa; in 2001, I discovered an REI location in Folsom when I was filming my American River documentary for "Bay Area Backroads" when I needed a 5-millimeter wetsuit . . . Fast forwarding after selling my house on November 1, 2016, I decided choosing moving either to Sacramento or El Dorado County . . . I really wanted a location at least twenty miles EAST and far enough away from Interstate 5 for disaster, survival reasons: I was researching the sales tax rates for California; I discovered for Northern California, Roseville has THE lowest sales tax rate aside Vacaville. After discovering the surprisingly lower sales, tax rate, I decided checking where all the stores' locations were via YELP in order, familiarizing myself with the areas where I might choose residing. Behold~REI is just down the street from the necessary Costco Gas Station via Highway 65 and close to Highway 80-YAY! I drove to REI, parked my truck, walked into the store, and began bumbling through REI Roseville inspecting the store's inventory selection; for some unexplainable, odd reason, REI Roseville seems to have merchandise I haven't seen with other REI stores I previously shopped! So . . . Is REI Roseville an "A" store? I'm referring to all retail stores' inventory grading for those who worked in retail for years: This REI store is definitely not a stockturn store; a store buyer or retail manager (I managed seven retail stores in the mid-1980's) will immediately recognize whether a store's inventory are either first-runs or close-outs. Upon closely inspecting the store's inventory, I noticed several solar devices I thought would be extremely helpful while camping and exploring wilderness areas. There is always plenty of parking. The store is well kept with merchandise well-displayed. So real, that everytime I walk in, I keep thinking that the mannequin inside the display tent in front is a real person. I have come here many times but more recently to shop for items to go camping at Coachella. Customer service is great. When they saw me looking confused they approached and help me find what I was looking for. Not only that, they make great suggestions and are very friendly. I purchased a Nemo sleeping pad from here which I love. I've also purchased a Eureka camping cooking stove that works like a charm and a camelbak backpack and reservoir. As an individual who has been a REI co-op member for over 3 years, I was disappointed during my visit to the Sacramento branch. Jocelyn, an employee working in the shoe department, was very unprofessional. My family and I waited for over 15-20 minutes trying to get her attention, as she was done working with the other customer. When she finally decided to respond, she was openly upset and irritated. As this was my dad's birthday, it was even more disheartening to see someone so disrespectful on the job. Note to management: Please re-train Jocelyn on proper customer service. Now I went to take back stuff that was defective after 10 months and they said it was too worn!?
