I feel so fortunate to have come here when I did. There actually was a model of Hoka that accommodates my foot issues much better than what I had been wearing, and the owner was aware of all the changes in this year's models and knew exactly what was different, so it was actually a model that previously hadn't worked for me but is perfect now. Bought a pair of Hoka running shoes to hopefully help with a lingering planter fascia issue ( my first pair) Patrice was amazing. Unfortunately after a couple of days the left shoe began to click when I walked.... So much so that I could hear and feel it. Went back to the store a week later and let Patrice hear the noise and she had no problems offering to provide me with a new pair of replacement shoes. Came in today ready and wanting to buy. Simple ask...knew the brand, size and specific colors I was looking for. For some reason it became a topic of discussion as to whether or not I had been "professionally fitted." I declined and reiterated that I've worn this brand shoes for years (multiple pairs/models) and I simply wanted a certain color and size. The saleswoman continued to "shoesplain" me about the models and the need to be fitted correctly first in order for her to being out shoes. My husband was shopping in the store and listening from afar and nearly jumped in because the saleswoman came across as aggressive/rude. Bottom line...sorry/not sorry, but we had had enough and walked out without shoes. Not at all the small town, friendly experience that I expected from an Auburn merchant. We won't be back. read more

Hurray, many the local people voted Auburn Running Company as best Outdoor Gear. I will agree. So many times whenever I go in. Items such shoes, snacks for running, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding. Maps of different trails. Shoes and socks for different varieties of sports. Even tread mill by entrance so if one wants try out the particular kind of shoe, the treadmill is there so they can try the shoes on the treadmill. Saleswoman was not able to help more than 1 person at once. The store was not busy, just one other woman and myself. I was ignored. She didn't ask if she could help me, didn't give me an estimated wait time. I saw an opening to ask if she could grab me a shoe from the back and she told me the shoe wasn't right for my foot. But gave me no alternative option. Just "do you have pronated feet? You don't, so that shoe isn't for you. There's actually more to it than that." And walked away. Hope the saleswoman reads and learns to: Acknowledge a person who's waiting, tell them how long they're going to have to wait. And ask if there's a quick question you can answer to point them in the right direction while you finish helping the other person. A little multitasking goes a long way. read more

I RARELY leave bad reviews. However, today's experience at Auburn Running Company gave me no choice. I was "helped" today by an older woman who acted like she had no idea what was going on. I came to the Store ready and willing to buy from them...I'm having ankle issues after getting back into running, and the store's website states: "we are also experienced runners with a love for bio-mechanics. The products we carry will help to keep running and minimize the probability of an injury. If you have a nagging pain or ache, come see us. We can help." This turned out to be complete and utter malarkey. The woman didn't check my running gait, didn't offer any insoles that could maybe help me...didn't even show me any shoes that I could buy to alleviate any pain...or correct bad running form...she just said I have wobbly ankles and "good luck". I thought this was a business that either wants to make money or help people?? This woman acted as if I didn't belong there and supplied no useful info whatsoever. I still can't believe it. Unfortunately my experience at this store put a bad taste in my mouth and I won't ever be back. I did give her two stars because she wasn't outright rude, just the most unhelpful salesperson I have come across in a long time. read more

So I grew up in Auburn before moving down to San Diego, and I didn't start running until after I had left town and this place opened. I wish I still lived in Auburn or that Dan and his fantastic store were here in SD instead. First, the staff is incredible. Knowledgeable, friendly, patient, really exceptional. And even though the building is small, their selection is actually better in some ways than bigger, corporate running stores, like the Road Runner warehouse here in SD. They don't carry the same depth of product that Road Runner and their ilk do, but the breadth is great. Hydration packs, sun-protection hats, gloves, head lamps. Because of the ultrarunning community in and around Auburn (the self-proclaimed "Endurance Capital of the World"), they have a lot of trail running gear and the more specialized items made for running all day. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are already a runner or even thinking about starting, this is a great resource to have. read more

This store beats all others. Period. If you're new to running or an old pro at it, this is the place for you. The owner has been running for centuries, or at least his knowledge of running shoes and local trails leads me to believe that. He's helped me pick out shoes. He spent an inordinate amount of time with me, had me run to see the type of foot I have (do you pronate? do you have a floppy foot? etc). And he recommend the best shoe for my type of foot. He's awesome! The only drawback is that they don't sell Saucony, so I haven't patronized their establishment as often as I would have had they sold Saucony shoes. And parking on Lincoln Ave stinks during busy times... so just go at non-busy times. :) read more

Always down to support the small shops. My wife has always purchased her running shoes from here and the tradition continues. She always gets the same Asics and why change when you have found something that works so well. We walked in, showed the shoe she wanted to match and got what she wanted. The name of the shoe was different but the support she wanted was the same. The staff was nice and helpful and this was probably the easiest sale of the day. All in all another great experience and I am jealous of her bright green shoes. read more

This store is the hub of trail running in Auburn SRA. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly; they have a great selection of gear and shoes targeted to the trail runner. Unlike Fleet Feet, which caters to the entire running community, this store, their staff and merchandise are guaranteed to be able to answer every trail running question you could possibly have. Also lots of greats Auburn SRA maps, so hikers will also find this store to be a good resource. I was just in there before Way Too Cool 50K to pick up my race packet. They are awesome. read more

Best running store around! I have bought a lot of shoes from here and every time it has been awesome! They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The staff knows what's best for you and will be honest. They have helped me through many injuries and if it wasn't for them telling me I needed a different shoe I would prob still have those injuries. I will go out of my way to go here and buy shoes from them even if I can get them cheeper on line I will still go here. I met here for a team in training meeting. The staff was very helpful and we all had a great time. They fitted us for shoes but there was not pressure to buy right then and there. They just want to make sure everyone has the right equipment so they done get hurt. The only downside is (and this is just personal) that they didnt have a very large selection. Not a runner but I needed a shoe that wouldn't hurt and I could wear for several hours a day. Salesperson was terrific knew what I needed and explained why it would be the best for me. Took time to assist and bring out multiple pairs of shoes even though he had several customers come in, he made everyone feel like they were taken care of. So I went there and they watched me walk and decided the right style of shoe and then brought five or six pairs for me to try on. They could not have been more helpful. I would have liked to rate this store based on my experience buying shoes from it, but after waiting for twenty minutes for assistance, only to be bumped by a customer who had been to the store but left, I couldn't afford to wait another twenty minutes. I would have come back on another day, but the saleswoman appeared to be so exasperated by having customers an hour before closing time that she didn't want my business. As a runner transitioning from road running to trail running I thought it would be a good idea to get a fitting for new trail shoes. What a GREAT experience! The actually looked at my feet, watched me walk barefoot and in shoes, checked my current running shoes for wear patterns, etc. Based on their observations and what I told them of my running habits (terrain, speed, frequency, etc) they suggested several shoes and then proceeded to ensure I chose one with a proper fit that felt comfortable and lastly even bothered to consider if color mattered to me. There was no high pressure sales pitch...they seriously want you to be happy and have a safe, comfortalbe, well-performing shoe for what you need it for. I walked out and after leaving checked the price I paid online only to find it was right in line with the cheapest available online. Oh, I also ran back and forth on the block a few times in various shoes to see how they "really" felt. Friendly and helpful and I really felt like I was a genuniely valued customer.
