I received a friendly welcome from Lisa, who turned out to be extremely personable, knowledgeable and patient as she guided me through the process of finding two pair of shoes that are comfortable, stylish and accommodate my bunions and hammertoe. I have plantar fasciitis. I cannot buy cheap shoes. I have bought shoes at the Footpath for years. I am a retired lifeguard & lifeguard instructor. I always bought Teva's for guarding on pool deck. I've bought Aetrex sandals for years. I've bought Keens for my job in retail when I'm on my feet all day. I've bought Merrill's and Taos. I've bought 2 pairs of Reiker boots, but I had to get inserts for adequate arch support. I've had to return some shoes on rare occasions...and it was quick and painless. I love this store! Quality shoes and personal service. It's nice to know places like this still exist. I came here specifically to get a pair of Keen shoes (which I love) but now that I've been here, I know where to go if I'm looking for other quality footwear like Birkenstocks, Uggs, etc. The prices aren't cheap here, but the shoes (and socks) are high quality. If you're looking for "Made in the USA" products, you'll have options here... but obviously high quality footwear is made in some other countries as well... so this isn't an exclusively "Made in USA" store. Walked in, said hi.. there were only 2 employees working.... There were two customers, one with each employee. No greeting. No "be with you in a moment", no smile... I might as well have been a ghost. So I thought, maybe you have to sit down and that will show you need help? So I sat. I stared trying to catch a glance. I will the women try on shoes... Made note of what shoes I wanted to try on... Mind you, I called before hand, asking for a specific brand since I came all the way from Sacramento.... One lady got up and was walking around the store, seeing if the shoe fit while walking, if it rubbed. Made sense to me. I stare at the employee who is staring at her, watching her walk.... She happens to glance at me and looks surprised. "Oh! You needed help?" UH, yes....? I may be 20 years old, but I'm in desperate need of orthotic shoes to help me. I wanted to cry. I was in so much pain from not being able to find the right shoes. This was the one place they had the shoes in stock to try on. I felt dismissed the entire time while trying on shoes. She took everything chance she could to jump at the people coming in the door. I ended up leaving the shoes that I tried on the floor and walked out. read more

My mom and I call this "the little old lady shoe store." It's nott really, they just happen to sell some comfortable shoes that my grandmother would have loved. They carry Clark's, Dankso, SAS, Birkenstock and many other comfortable shoe brands. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. They have a "back room" with sale items. I have been shopping at the Footpath in Auburn for years now and they have great customer service! For instance, they measure your feet and the employees are verses in what type of shoe will work for a particular foot problem, such as my plantar fasciitis. Also, when they have a particular kind of sale, and a shoe in that brand (or an Ameribag for that matter) is not in the store, they will order that particular style of shoe you want (or bag) and still give you the sale price for it with no shipping charge. I walked in to find work shoes after failing miserably in Auburn. I wanted comfort and stability. I needed black, closed toed, nonslip shoes to wear while working in a restaurant. After perusing the store, I came up with five options. I ended up walking out with a pair of Keen's (which after one month of wearing, and incredibly comfortable!) Their prices are steep, but you get what you pay for. The shoes I purchased were $100.00, yet after a discount, I walked out paying $88.00. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, yet seemed a little indifferent about a younger customer in their store (which made me feel a bit uncomfortable). Overall, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my shoes, and will be back when I need more! read more

I shopped here for 22 years. The products they sell here are great. However, on my last two visits, I left, never having felt more demeaned by a sales person in my life. Second change given and due to this I will never return. I spent several months off work after my mother needed major surgery. During this time my business attire stayed in the closet and I dressed in general for comfort. I brought my mother in for a few new pairs of shoes. She was post surgical and also as comfortable as she could manage with her cane and shoulder slings. She moved slow. Her fatigue and inability to make a decision lead to multiple trips. In general the atmosphere was aloof and cold. On the second trip, when paying for the multiple selections we chose, the sales woman takes my card and processes it. As the receipt is printing, she looks me dead in the eyes and says, "I have never been more surprised that a card came back approved." Then she smirked as she handed me the pen to sign it. This was not a snarky teenager. This was a grown 60+ year old woman. While managing my mother took a little extra time, we were in the store less than 45 min each time. I am just baffled why you would choose to speak to a customer that way. I chose not to return her venom in front of my mother and their other customers and we removed ourselves promptly. this store is great for two reasons: excellent section and excellent service. the prices are high, but these are quality shoes. this is not a place for stilettos, this is for good solid quality american and european shoes for people who actually walk (as opposed to simply posing). the owners seem to take a real interest in suiting your needs and are happy to custom order shoes. my mom is older and loves SASS brand shoes and they have them. when she couldn't find just what she wanted, they whipped out the catalog, showed her something similar to what she was looking for and offered to order them (without obligation for her to buy them) so she could see if she liked them. pretty great. my mom was happy and when they came, they were just right. I'll be back! my friends who live in the foothills around there are all very familiar with this place too, it turns out, and also love it. they watch for the sales and then hit them hard. read more

The footpath has the best selection of comfort shoes around plus phenominal service. If they don't have your size in stock they order it and have it for you and a short amount of time. They carry Birkenstock, Mephisto, Dansko and the likes. Some of their styles are made for my grandma (SAS) but most are current somewhat stylish shoes or as stylish as comfort shoes can be. If you are looking for high style or something fancy stick to Nordstroms or the likes. Check out the back room for great sales. read more

This stored saved my backpacking trip. I was on my way up to the mountains for an end of the season backpacking trip. about 9am, outside Auburn I realize that I left my hiking shoes at home in the Bay Area. Went on google and found that the Footpath is opened at 9am. They were very friendly, had a nice selection, and found a great pair of Merrill Moab Venitilators. They had me back on the road in 15 minutes and save a great backpacking trip. I saw one or two reviews that mention that this place is a little pricey, but I found the prices very much inline with what most retailers are selling them for. I am sure you can find better prices at a discount store, but the prices are very much in line. They carry a good selection of quality outdoor, walking, running and hiking shoes.
