It's been one of those days, so sorry I don't have any pictures to share. The backstory is my husband has been dealing with Planter Facetious and has gotten some inserts at REI back in December and that got us through 4 grueling days of Disneyworld. Since then he's had flair ups now and then, but nothing compared to this weekend. We walked 8 miles over 2 days in South Lake Tahoe and he was feeling it. Last week he was having a conversation with is coworker who is a runner until she got planter factious. That got talking to him talking about his foot issues to. His coworker suggested we get some of these really tacky shoes that looks like crocs living on a billow. According to her they are supposed to be helpful and at the same time you wouldn't want to be caught dead in them. In their ad they were referred to as recovery shoes. With his cowered suggestion he was finally open to exploring the new shoe option. Previously I tried to turn him to getting some new shoes at REI but, he thought the inserts were good enough so I let the subject drop. I did some research on the shoes his coworker suggested and read mixed reviews on Reddit and other sites. He's in so much pain that we're willing to try anything. Sadly, they don't sell this brand at REI so I talked him into going to REI and giving something they have in stock a try. When I had Planter Facetious my girlfriend turned me to HOKAs. Those weren't an instant cure, but they got me on my way. So, I suggested he give them a try for a daily shoes and another shoe aka a house shoe. From what I have been told you shouldn't go barefoot when you have Planter Facetious. When we got to REI we started our search for a house shoe, the ones his coworkers suggested looked more like an house shoe than a real daily shoe. When I was searching for reviews on the shoes his coworker suggested I got a lead on OOFOS. They were recommended by one of the reviewers that didn't find the other shoes helpful. OOFOS are located in the shoes section on racks near the rubber Birkenstocks. They had lots of OOFOS. Both slide and thong options. He tried both on and went with OOriginal Sandals, the thong styles they were more comfortable. Next for the hard part. Searching for a daily shoe. He tried on many models. Two different styles of HOKAs and Brooks. After walking around the store for around an hour he settled on the Brooks. They are dark grew with a muted red swish on it. Very stylish in it's own way. He just bought a pair of dress shoes that look fabulous and he's sad to not be able to wear them now. Too bad as I really like them. Hopefully after he recovers he'll be able to wear them again. I've been going on a few years now using my HOKAs as my main shoe. I trade off on Sundays to go to church and wear a pretty dress shoes and I recently got a pair of saddles from the geriatric shoe store that are cute and comfy. For my house shoe I use my Birkenstocks. The classic style with the fluff. While he was shopping for shoes I went coat shopping. I wanted a white coat that was fashionable and functional. I found some really cute ones, but they were more fashion then functional. I finally settled on a white rain coat that will be perfect for our trip to Seattle. It's short but not too short that my purse sticks out. I think it's going to be a good additional to my wardrobe and gives me an option to my red raincoat that I got a few years back at REI. Now we're hoping we made the right decisions and all he'll have happy feet. I really hope his feet heal before our trip to AZ where we'll be doing a lot of walking as we explore Horseshoe bend and Antelope Canyon. read more

Adrian, or "Dr. Adrian" as his name tag said, was amazing. When he first asked if I was an REI member, I immediately got defensive because I hate being sold things. He stayed calm, explained exactly how the membership would save me money on the repair, and he was completely right. What struck me was that he kept trying to help me even though I was being uncool because I assumed it was just some scam to get me to sign up for something I didn't need. He also charged me only for the work my bike actually needed instead of a full tune-up, which saved me even more. I hadn't ridden the bike in five years, none of the gears worked, and when I got it back it was flawless. He's a great mechanic and a genuinely cool guy. I even stood around talking with him for about 10 minutes after dropping the bike off. Highly recommended. I'm glad I now know who to call if my bike ever has a heart attack.. read more

I love both the products and staff at every REI I have patronized. This one is no exception. However, the organization and signage for the products can use improvement here. The division of men's and women's clothing is not clearly marked. Some larger clothing brands have signage, others do not. Improvement with organization and signage would make it much easier and less time consuming to shop here. read more

For me, REI is that store you can wander around for hours!! REI offers all kinds of different options for your sports gear needs. From playing in the snow to hiking and camping gear. You'll be able to find clothing, shoes, camping, fitness, cycling equipment, backpacks, and much MORE!! Don't laugh, but I love those "Darn Tough" socks!! Pricing as heck, but worth it!! I love their backpacks. They offer a variety of quality options. I like trying it on and checking the fit. Their employees are awesome about measuring you for the right fit. Adrian Spohr, Certified Technician, is a MASTER mechanic! Earlier this year he installed my Thule Hellevator racks. They worked awesome to transport my kayaks. Soon after the installation my vehicle developed an obnoxious whistling noise when when I drove on the freeway. YouTube reviews made it clear that this is an ongoing issue. I brought my Land Cruiser in today to show Adrian the issue. He insulated between the racks and eliminated the noise. He is notifying Thule regarding the engineering problem with the racks. In my opinion this effort is above and beyond the call of duty. Once again Adrian is my Superman! read more

She went out of her way to answer my questions and provide thoughtful solutions, addressing considerations I hadn't even thought of. Visited the store today to look at and possibly purchase a seat pack for a new mountain bike. What I saw online was vastly different than what was in the store. Not only was the selection weak, but I was never approached by an employee for assistance, including in other departments. Plus the store seems small and jumbled in display. For example, the bike department seems blended with the snow board equipment. I left without buying anything and feeling indifferent about ever returning. Lastly, although the store carries name brand products, it is full price and can be found elsewhere for less. The only exception on pricing is their own branded products, but that often means buying something that has the REI logo blazing through the look of the item. read more

This place is the best. They have a great selection of basically every outdoor need - clothes, hiking gear, chairs, boots, sandals. I get my snowboards serviced every year for a reasonable price. I bought my wife a bicycle a couple years ago and today I bought my 8 year old his first big boy bike. He was very excited. The Bike shop staff were super knowledgeable and got my boy's bicycle ready by installing the kick stand and bell. The service overall is outstanding. read more

This REI has a lot of parking available. Also, more of my favorite restaurants are in this shopping center next to REI. The area has become more attractive to me. My sister needed some weatherproof boots here and I decided to tag along. First time visiting a REI. Pretty cool store seeing all of the different tools/gadgets/clothing for outdoors-y activities (hiking, camping, rock-climbing, snowboarding, etc.). My sister got assistance in the shoes section pretty quickly and the lady helping her was very friendly. Nice that the prices for the Blundstone boots here are pretty much the same as in the Blundstone website. I docked a star because organization of the store could be better (there are small pockets of clothing racks scattered throughout the store and I wished they were all clumped into one spot). Finding parking is downright easy for this place (huge lot). read more

Unlucky for me, I realized I forgot my sleeping pad 5 hours into my drive to South Lake Tahoe! BUT lucky for me this REI was close by when I realized my mistake. The awesome staff here were able to give me a rental even though online reservations were no longer available for same day. While here I also purchased a few items that were on sale for Labor Day. This REI is on the smaller size compared to others I've been to but they were pretty stocked on everything. The rental process was easy and a couple days later I returned my rental with no issues. I take a trip to SLT every year so I'm glad to know there's a great little REI on the way there. read more

Of the 3 REI locations around Greater Sacramento, this one continues to be my favorite. Quite frankly it always boils down to the staff. The Folsom REI has consistently provided me with exceptional service from the moment I walk in and am greeted. I am always offered assistance l without having to search for it, and I find that this location in particular employees real experts in their departments. Recently, I had stellar service from Laura in the backpack department. An experienced backpacker herself, she was able to properly measure and fit me while explaining several features within the various brands to help me choose the perfect one for my needs. Laura really knows her stuff and spent a great deal of time passing some of that knowledge onto me, including a little secret about the garage sale that I plan on using. This location continues to impress me and I find myself driving a little further just to shop here because of it. Plus, they just started renting snowshoes here again. read more

Incredibly knowledgeable staff. Went in to buy a HIGH quality pair of hiking boots, and after doing a lot of research, REÍ had the brand (Lowa) that I wanted. The salespeople are high-energy and they truly aim to please. They are incredible - being able to properly size your foot for shoes, and to make sure the size you tried on is indeed an excellent fit. They even have a Boulder in the store where you can test your prospective boots. The sales gal I dealt with encouraged me to look at other brands so I truly made an informed decision! She took a great amount of time with me, making sure I made the right purchase for ME. I LOVE my new hiking boots! I was very impressed with the staff and their knowledge. However I was truly disgusted with some REÍ customers. They take crazy advantage of REI's very forgiving return policy. I noticed broken down, tired old used (nasty) shoes on their CLEARANCE rack because some customers evidently thinks that REÍ is simply a "free rental" shoe store. This madness drives the prices up for the rest of us, and frankly I find people who are willing to thrash a pair of shoes over a year and then RETURN them to be classless thieves. I was so shocked at the extremely worn, dirty shoes on the clearance racks. People! Please be honest consumers. I hate thieves! Please don't be a classless loser - who wears their shoes/boots daily for a year( and then return your thrashed used shoes for a FULL REFUND a year later. Gross!!! Donate your old shoes/boots (if they are even worthy of donating) and buy yourself a new pair. This "free rental" thieving practice drives up the prices for the rest of us. I truly hope that REÍ considers altering their overly generous return policy. It is killing REI's business! I am DELIGHTED with my new Lowa boots, but I truly hope that REÍ reconsiders their return policy (which allows deadbeat losers to wear and thrash shoes for A YEAR - and get a full return price- THIEVES!). This is not a good practice for REÍ, and obviously it is not a good practice for REÍ customers who then have to pay premium prices because of these ridiculously generous FREE "RENTAL" policies. I love REÍ and their very knowledgeable and professional sales staff. However, this "business" of allowing thieves to use and abuse your shoes for a YEAR, and get a full return is ridiculous. If you're an outdoorsy kind of person, then REI is your one stop shop for everything. They sell hiking shoes, bikes, kayaks, basically any outdoor activity that you can think of, they've got you covered. Even though I love REI, I wasn't a fan of this particular location. Comparing it to the one in Arden, this one seems smaller or more packed?? I just felt like things were bunched up together and not as spacious as the Arden one. Staff, however, are just as helpful though. read more

For decades I once frequented all of the REI stores as a repeatedly loyal customer and gladly paid their higher prices, for one reason only...because they took care of legitimate (not petty) problems. Alas, no more! Now they are penny-pinching petty, bending over the dollar of customer loyalty to save the nickel of customer service. No longer do they stand behind their sale of 'lifetime warranty' products (ie. Gregory backpacks) nor can you any longer obtain from them parts for their REI brand of tents, nor for parts from vendors they rep (here's looking at you Yakima), for examples. Other experiences of REI clothing stitching failures within 2 years for items worn twice...and so forth...are met with scrutiny and suspicion, despite the fact of being a member / repeat customer for 30 years plus. Now you're better off buying a Costco tent and just using it until it wears out and then go buy a new one in a few seasons. Don't even get me started with what's available on Amazon. Seriously, REI. Pull your head out. You're no longer the only game in town. read more

I had a scooter tire that needed to be seeded, I went to 3 other places and they all said they couldn't help me, But when I went to REI they fixed it in a very short time. The person who helped me was named Adrian, and he was excellent. Also as a bonus he even added a slime that will repair itself if the tire gets puncherd, I would highly recommend for any bike or scooter tire seeding or repairs. read more

I love REI ...the store is amazing. Great quality merchandise. But the last couple times I was in there I had a return and a purchase. While returning my item the cashier took a phone call right in front of me and completely stopped helping me for four entire minutes. Then, once I found a different item the same exact thing happened with a different cashier. I'm standing there with money in my hand I shouldn't be replaced by a phone call from someone who just has questions. Put it on hold. read more

Every time I come here I am treated well. No, I do not get help right away, but that's to be expected as I am not under the false assumption that I am the only person in the store. Some of the reviews on this are hilarious and so, so egomaniacal. I will address several of them: 1. Your kids shouldn't be screwing around on the rock that adults use to try out hiking boots. It's a legal liability. Because, the parents that let their kids climb on everything are just the parents that will turn around and sue as soon as their kid gets hurt. So, when an employee tells your kid not to play on the thing that they're not supposed to be playing on in the first place, don't get all defensive and lame. There's a sign on the rock. Tell your kid to not touch it. 2. For everyone that wrote about having to wait 5 minutes to be helped... who do you think you are? Do you think you're some celebrity? As soon as you walk in everyone is alerted via walkie talkie that you're here and to immediately greet you and ask you what you need? That's insane. Stop being a whiner. Also, I've been in the service industry for years, and people ALWAYS overestimate the time that they've been waiting. It's always a good 3 times more than how long they've actually been waiting. Knock it off, dicks. 3. If you buy something at an REI garage sale, it's a FINAL SALE item. That means that you can't return it. Also, there are signs everywhere stating this, there's a tag on the item, and the people at the register tell you this as well. So, it seems as though these people are blind, deaf, and dumb. If you are, then you have an excuse and this isn't about you. 4. The people that give stupid, ill-informed, negative reviews are usually pretty unhappy people. So, I hope they don't come back in. Nobody that works there needs to be subjected to your nonsense. PS I don't work at REI...in case anyone assumes that an employee is angrily writing a clap back. I'm just a regular at the Folsom location and have NEVER been treated anything but nicely. Yes, I've had to wait awkwardly to be helped. But, the fact that I'm awkward is nobody else's fault. That's on me. I understand that I'm not the only one in the store. I understand nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes and forgets things. This location has gone steadily decline in customer service, manner, or product selection. Case in point... the young lady at the bike area was dear to ask me if I was wondering around or shopping upon my entry. I am small Asian man with my two young kids... So do they have problem with Asians or people with young kids?! I have been shopping at this location for years... Very disappointing. I can find better selection online with lower prices... I love REI whether I buy something or now. They always have some kind of cool gadget. My hubs is very outdoorsy and loves all sports so he loves REI. Although it's a bit pricier than Dicks and there isn't any coupons you can earn cash back with their rewards program. This REI is much small than the one I normally visit (Arden area) but it does have a lot of cool things to look at. The staff here are all friendly and always ready to help. You can always find someone if you have a question. The added star is that they have a baby changing diaper station that has liners. Most places don't offer these because of its costs but any place with a baby changing station always gets an extra stars. We moms like to shop and really do not want to have to change our babies diapers on your aisle or on our car. Kudos to REI. read more

Terrible service today. I went in to this REI after being told this was the closest "official" Merrell shoe store by the local Merrell Factory Outlet store, and waited for 5 minutes in the shoe department while employees worked in the area around it, making eye contact with at least one of them, but I was not approached and asked if I needed help. I was finally half heartedly greeted by one employee who was quickly walking through the shoes towards the backroom and asked if I needed help. I asked if they had any of the new Merrell Range AC shoes as shown on the Merrell website and he flatly said "nope", and just stood there silently, waiting for me to leave. Thanks, REI. read more

I have been to this store 2 times. 1st time was a horrible experience the staff was rude, not helpful and arrogant. I came back with my family to give them another chance. We were going to buy a couple of mountain bikes. However as soon as we got there the man at the front was very rude and not helpful. I went into REI about 25 minuets before the store closed on a Saturday night, just enough time to get somewhat of an idea of what type of hiking shoe I wanted to spend more time walking around in, climbing the rock wall etc when I came back, Unfortunately the young 20 something guy employee wasn't very much help in that department which was discouraging, because I had always heard that REI was the best place to go. The next day I went back and again tried on the hiking shoes that I thought I might consider purchasing. This time Jeff was working that area, and there couldn't have been a more knowledgeable and qualified employee for that department, I felt so fortunate that he was there to help me choose the proper shoe! This REI is absolutely fantastic in more ways than one. They offer a vast array of gear, equipment, accessories for the outdoors, and I can never get enough of this place. As mentioned in my other REI review, they have THE BEST return policy in the world. I went in today and was helped by Happy. He was more than happy (no pun intended) to help me with all my return needs. I had purchased a sleeping bag over the weekend, and realized I didn't have my 20.00 off coupon. I brought it in and he was more than happy to adjust the price for me! Icing on the cake was when I decided I didn't like my Camelbak anymore. I found another one that was a better color and smaller size, so he gladly returned the one I purchased...FROM A YEAR AGO! YES! A YEAR AGO!! This place is absolutely amazing. And since my husband is a lifetime member (which is only a 20.00! A ONE TIME FEE!), they were able to look up my purchases on his membership, no receipt needed. I cannot express enough the fantastic customer service and satisfaction guaranteed. They make it less scary to purchase big items, because I have to reassurance that if I'm not happy at any time, I can return it for something better. THANK YOU REI!!!!!!! read more

Great place for outdoor supplies. Definitely a top tier brand place as the items aren't exactly cheap. You will however get great selection and quality. I've bought tents, kayaks, shoes, car accessories and more from this place. I love the year end dividends you get because it's kind of a surprise but also it's great to get the kickbacks.
