Came in off the highway to check out re/supply, found the room it was in and went in. Maybe 30 seconds later an employee walks in the other door: Employee snaps at me: You're not allowed to be in here. Me (confused): Uh, I'm just looking at resupply gear? Employee: You have to leave now. There's a class here in 15 minutes. Sorry. I walk out, they watch me leave then also leave the room. Lolwut? The sorry was an afterthought, but at least they seem to have realized they were being unreasonable. I went to talk to another staff member about this, turns out the class was in nearly an hour. They thought it was perfectly fine and said something along the lines of "yeah, well, it can take a while to setup." So I guess that's just the norm for customer service at this location. A few points: 1) If you're going to be pissed off at customers for going where customers are normally allowed to go, put up a sign or something letting them know something has changed? 2) I could have just kept looking at the racks of stuff in there while they went to do whatever it was doing before they noticed I was in there. 3) One of the many employees idly standing around could have escorted me to where they were presumably going to move the stuff out of there so I could still check it out if anyone actually cared. Been a member for around 15 years and had a great experience buying four items at the Sandy store earlier in the day and geeking out with employees about gear... I'd skip this one. Worth noting Yelp is hiding more 1 star reviews, REI's generally don't have such a bipolar review skew as this store. read more

I can't speak for the employees in the 1 star review this place has, but I can speak for how wonderful, knowledgeable and kind the employee Veronica was when I came into the store. Finally, I decided it was time to start snowshoeing. Veronica spent an extensive amount of time with me breaking the sport down, explaining the needed products, and generally just being helpful (all without being the pushy sales type!) it made for a pleasant experience. 有り難う! read more

They had a person out front to make sure every person is wearing a mask. Seems unnecessary, but whatever. Then I walked to the back of the store to see the shoes. I approached from the side, and . . . they had walled off the entire shoe section with awkwardly placed merchandise? It wasn't even clear it was a wall until I had forced my way through it. At that moment I realized "Oh they want me to walk through their approved shoe section entry where they have an employee stationed." The employee was looking at me. At that point, I felt really uncomfortable being there, so I left the shoe section completely. I went to the front to pick up a package we had ordered online, and there I encountered another wall made of awkwardly-placed merchandise. I couldn't walk to the cashier desk in a straight line; they wanted me to walk around--through their approved que path--even though there was no one in line and hardly any one in the store. Again, I didn't know this was a wall until I had awkwardly made my way through it. I felt embarrassed as employees were watching me figure this out. Bottom line: this store feels controlling in weird ways. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I plan to shop elsewhere going forward. read more

I've always had pleasant experiences here. Their selection is good and the folks working are helpful. Shame there's a couple of 1 star reviews. REI has the easiest return/ messed up order policy ever. I've returned things and cancelled order and never had problems. This one is no exception. I recommend it. read more

We went into the store to find something for our son in law birthday. I never had such rude customer service in my life!! My husband and I are NOT the Athletic type...we were just trying to find a gift. We felt like we were being stalked by the associates ...like we didn't have a "right" to be in the store. They screwed up my online order so I went into the store to fix it, and get the product I actually ordered, and they did nothing to help me. Awful customer service. Ive been to this location several times, and every time Ive talked to an employee about a product, they don't know the answers and have to find someone else to help me. Worst REI I've been to.
