My favorite and Best outdoor and sports equipment store. Most friendly and helpful staff. They are knowledgeable, they help you with picking up the gear. No pressure to buy but frank opinion.

Trying out a sleeping bag

This is a smaller REI location - hence the 4 star (only for the selection). I came here to try out some camping great. The staff was wonderful, they showed me tents, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags that were catered to my needs. They spent extra time with me letting me try different combinations of pads and sleeping bags. My boyfriend and I set up a tent in the middle of their floor to make sure it would fit both of us. Great service, great experience. Will come back in the future.

Soooo many people leaving reviews here for their online experience with Moosejaw. For my part, I…read moreactually wandered into this physical store location during a visit to Ann Arbor. Wandering the streets in town and ducking in and out of rain I found this quite the surprising refuge. The shop was staffed by three college kids all having a great time hanging out and cutting up while business was quite slow. I think some visitors may have been put off but they were incredibly friendly and invited me into their convo. They even had free snacks and refreshments laid out on a table for anyone to grab. The store has a generous assortment of outdoor gear and a better cashback/rewards plan than REI. There were lots more unique items to ogle here and I spent a lot of time wondering if I needed a lot of things I'm glad I didn't end up buying. Backpacks, shoes, clothing, etc. About what you'd imagine for this kind of place. But a more fun environment with that "never know what you might find" feel. They seem to hold onto inventory that went out of style years ago. Makes it unique. Prices were high, as they tend to be for branded outdoor goods. I finally settled on an Osprey day-pack. I'd been looking for one for a while at this point. Got out for under $100 plus got a reward to spend on my next visit or on their online store. Even nabbed a few free quirky bumper stickers.

This has always been a great fly rod smallmouth bass guide service in previous years. I have taken my son on 2 occasions and 4 other friends over a decade. This April I contacted my guide 10 days before a planned trip w/ concerns about fishing conditions given "100-year rains", a heavy winter snow-pack and flooding in Michigan w/ numerous tailwater dams being threatened. I was assured that the guide "was on the water and conditions were fine". This was a bold-faced lie. I traveled 350+ miles from 3 states away to find the Grand and Huron Rivers 5 feet above the high water mark in flood stage flowing like rapids with water clarity similar to chocolate milk. I specifically suggested that I was happy to reschedule later in the season when conditions were more favorable. I fully understand that guides have a limited season but lying about conditions to maintain income is just wrong. When all is said and done SO essentially stole $1,600 from me given booking fees, guide fees and tip, gas, food and lodging. Don't trust them in the future to have integrity in representing the conditions. They will say anything to preserve income. They have lost a client for life.

Chances are they're going to have what you're looking for, and more than likely in stock. There are other outdoor lifestyle chains out there, but none that measure up to the outdoor/wilderness environment that Cabela's has. From its rustic, natural(ish) décor to the outdoor displays to wildlife exhibits, you really do get that "I feel like I'm out in the woods" vibe. While I've always been a fan of Cabela's, this summer we found that they carry my absolute favorite line of bird seed. I'm a birder and feed 6 to 8 different types of feed in my back year nearly year round, and the fact that they have my favorite brand (Harvest brand bird feeds), but A) in multiple varieties and 2) IN STOCK immediately made this my go-to place when I need bird seed. We used to have to visit 3 or more retail outlets to find what I needed, but not any more. This has got to be one of the largest Cabela's in existence. Seriously. I've been to a number of them but this one just seems ENORMOUS. It's also got an absolutely beautiful 'front door' that can be seen from the expressway nearby. As I wandered around trying to find my bird seed (it literally took me over 10 minutes) I passed a number of staff members helping others and stocking shelves. OH...and an aquarium. There's a freakin' AQUARIUM in this Cabela's. As if the animals and all the outdoor displays aren't enough, they add an aquarium.
