I've been to most of the shops in the Detroit metro area and this is, by far, my favorite. Seth is an excellent mechanic, has a vast experience in cycling and the community. I've gone to other shops; Trek stores, shops in Ann Arbor, other local bike shops and none have provided an overall experience equal to Sweet Bikes. Walked in with my Scott CR-1 road bike after 60 mile JDRF fundraiser ride, front brake dragging. Seth tweaked it into submission, adjusted pad location a bit, spins SO freely now, ready for 100 more!! How long did it take? 2 minutes, after waiting 3 for him to set the prior customer up for a test ride. I did purchase a nifty Garmin rear light with radar for approaching traffic, that will notify with seat post vibration, and no charge for the tweaks! Awesome service! read more

Called around looking for a specialty bike shop that specialized in my Cannondale E-MTB. They were on the top of the list. I called and asked if they could install a speedbox on my bike. Dropped it off and got it back in less than a week. Seth was super nice and I can see why they are always busy. This place is awesome. The only thing bad about my visit is that I messed up and brought my 8 year old son with me, who after seeing all the awesome bikes, wanted to buy one. I had to take him out of the shop lol. Some 2-14 yrs ago I came in this store and had the pleasure of talking to Seth the owner, a nice young man starting a family who loved bikes, was eager to work with them and its customers. He doesn't know this but his quote for my first bike work was higher than his competitors, but I liked his customer service and attitude so much I went with him regardless and became a regular customer. I was willing to pay a little more because of that great customer service, and quality of work, he would always answer all question honestly and happily and if he did not know something he would look it up, even though it is easier for me to click a button and order parts on line, I would drive an hour to give Seth and Sweet bikes business thus supporting my local bike shop even on small stuff. Well, unfortunately all that has changed, I wish I could tell you it hasn't but it has and I can no longer recommend this place to my friends and family as I did for a over a decade. Today Seth seems like a cranky, non-engaging bitter old man who will hardly look at you in the eye when he talks to you, tells you half truths and non-truths, (lies in a more polite way) and is willing to charge you high money for items you don't need. Ready to believe the worse of people rather then the best. What happened here? Maybe he got beat up by too many bad customers, I don't know, but today he can't tell the difference between a good customer and a bad one. Today I was sad, I watch him display how bad his customer service has gotten and I felt bad, bad for him and bad for me, remembering how good this place used to be. I managed teams of people for 25 yrs at the third largest corporation in the US and can tell you when someone goes bad at his age, they almost never come back. An engineer by trade I am not confused by technical situations, I just don't brag about it or flaunt it, so some confuse that for ignorance and or stupidity, it's not. Ultimately I made my new project bike work just fine by measuring my neighbors' new bike, contacting the manufacturer (which Seth said was impossible, another lie) and with some simple logic and without having to spend the extra money and time Seth was telling me I needed to. Turns out I had the right parts as the original retailer had recommended. Seth wasn't even willing to talk to me much, I came in ready to pay him $100 an hour for "just advice" and order any parts if needed through him, I figured I would take 15 minutes of his time so $25, had it in my pocket. But as I was asking my second question and he was not even willing to get up and come over and look where I was pointing at my bike, I thought, why should I pay for passive aggressive crappy service, bordering on demeaning, plus a bad sour attitude and wrong advice to boot? No thanks, that's just rewarding bad behavior. I decided not to and simply never come back here. He was also making dishonest false remarks aimed at making the customer feel bad and embarrassed about his choice and guilting him into giving Seth more unnecessary business, "that" I don't forgive, you just don't do that to any customer. Not everyone who comes in to see you is an idiot Seth, you should not treat them that way. So, as soon as I find a better place that will treat customers with dignity and respect, not a like a spoiled child I will be posting and recommending online right here on YELP, stay tuned. I can't comment on the quality of work but only the customer service. The owner is not a friendly person. Got a quote for service on two separate issues. I had to call multiple times to get any updates. Long story short, Seth ended up wanting to charge significantly more for both services than what was originally discussed. I politely decline and said I'd like to take my bike somewhere else. He promptly says I owe him a $15 shop fee. Umm, no I don't. You changed the price so I shouldn't owe anything. He was kind of rude about the whole thing. He did end up letting me leave without paying but it was awkward and unnecessary. read more

In my quest to figure out the best bike for me, I went to virtually every bike store in the Detroit area. And though I don't have any horror stories about these shops (ok, one) I was generally left with the feeling that as much as they might love bikes, they're really lacking in people skills and customer service. Sweet Bikes is different and totally worth the drive to Canton. It is also a perfectly named store. I know this, because whenever somebody sees the custom bike they built for me, they always say, "Your bike is sweet. Where did you get it?" My bike IS sweet, and that's due in large part to the guys at the store - Seth and Jason - who not only love bikes, but are personable, patient, and want to make sure you get the best (sweet) bike for you. Where do I start...I've been here in the past for small items like street tires for my mountain bike and tubes for no standard wheels. Went this time looking for a tandem. They got one ordered for us and built it up within hours of it arriving at the shop. Emily was great helping us order shoes and pedals. Seth was extremely helpful setting up the bike for my daughter and adjusting the cleats on her shoe for her turned foot. I've read other reviews about them not being friendly or attentive and I don't get it based on several visits to this shop. They are super busy repairing bikes but still stop to help out and answer questions. I've been in other local shops and bought a bike elsewhere. This will be the only bike shop I use from now on based on the level of service we have been given. read more

I'm in the market for a new bike and my buddy said to check this place out. Stopped off at the shop yesterday late in the morning to check things out. They were a few customers milling about. I understand that he has to tend to other customers but no greetings or "I'll be with you in a few." or just a general acknowledgment. After checking the bikes on display and stood around for about 20 minutes. Still nothing from the employee, so I walked out. They do not deserve my money. I can easily go shop elsewhere. Bought package three, Sweet, I believe that is what it is called.... it includes all of package 1 and 2. In package 2 is bike wash and clean...... Also, new chain, cassette, cables, new hanger....yada yada..... bikers, you know the drill. New stuff was put on. But the bike itself, not even close to getting that take down, clean, degrease job from package two. Went back inside and asked if you actually cleaned and washed the bike.... you said yes, bottom bracket, head set..all done, your good to go, all lubed, your set....... Hardly. I get back home, send Seth some photos of this filthy bike that I paid to get taken care of. Reply was that we do clean and degrease, but sometimes things don't get that special close inspection...... riiiiiiigght. Dude, I've been biking for over 30 years.... spent thousand upon thousands of dollars on all my rides..... and no Target Mongooses here, my man. Long time riders know what's up and how to gage a shop. I was really hoping this was going to be my new shop for years.... FOR YEARS!!!! Bikers stay loyal to the shops that are good and fair and honest. Yes, you did offer to wipe the bike down if I would bring it back..... I'm bummed out, Seth.... you had the bike for around two weeks. I even mentioned to you when I first came in I was begging for a new, good, decent shop....... not a good test run, Seth. Seth, it is a trust, honesty thing..... It's not about the hosing of my dollars. I put my life on the line when I ride my rides.... road, single track.... I fully expect the mechanic to have that same mindset when working on some ones ride. Sure, where only talking about a cleaning and wash... but it's that dang trust, honesty thing. I do apologies for posting instead of coming in to talk to you but I kinda tried and I could tell right from the get-go when I inquired about the wash how it was going to go. Bad thing is, had this been my new shop, I would have for sure bought, at least, a new Felt to add to my stable. Trust and Honesty, Seth..... trust and honesty. I'd say, If you rock a Target Mongoose or a K-Mart Huffy... this maybe your shop... If you rock a real ride, spend hours upon hours in the saddle, have faith and trust and rely on your rides..... you may need to to continue the search......like I am. Correction.... you had the bike for one week. Update July 19 9.08am..... After having more time, I throughly inspect bike and this inspection has confirmed the facts...... the fact is that, you, Seth..at Sweet Bikes, Canton MI, are a con-man, thief. Your shop should be shut down. I, now, wouldn't even bring you a dead chicken to look at. People would be better off taking that Huffy to REI.... Stay away from Sweet Bikes in Canton Mi. Worst bike shop on the planet. No intelligence level available. Could not even get two matching tires when I rode my bike up there. So I bought two mismatched tires because at the time I wasn't being very picky. Had the kid working there change out the tires. Slower than all get out and yapping about his beer habit of which I could care less. In the process, he slashed a hole my tube so i had to sit and wait for him to figure that out and replace the tube. Then they said i could come back for my original tires when I had my vehicle (instead of riding around with them) so I left them there. They were like new, just too bulky for a street ride. I went back to get them and they said they must have gotten thrown away. Sure pal, the only matching set of like-new tires just got thrown away. They sold my tires to someone else!! I was checking out the newly-repaved I-275 corridor bike trail, and the Ford Rd crossing led us right past this shop, so we stopped in to check it out. I had been wanting a new seat for my mountain bike, and they had a good seat at a great price, so I bought it and had it installed while I waited. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. While I waited, I looked around a bit and they have a decent selection of road, comfort, and mountain bikes. They seem to carry a lot of Scott bikes. I'll be taking my bike back here for a thorough tune-up and cleaning this weekend, when I do I'll post the results here and update this review. I went there as a new customer because I had purchased a fat tire bike they had originally sold and built. They were on unwilling to help or stand behind the bike. Got a good full bar behind the counter but not a good mechanic. Cats are friendly at least. Scratched the hell out of one bike, broke my cyclocross computer, will lie to your face about work, and one time kept swinging my bike's front tire around wildly as if trying to smack me in the face with it, for no reason. Do good at installing parts they have stocked but not doing work you need done. Also not many bikes on display. Wanted to make it work with this location due to the despairing quality of local bike shops but wasted time, money, and hope for my bikes to be fixed in trying. I love this store, what first attracted me coming in was there displays from Ford Rd. I could see the cutest bike in the window and I knew I had to have it. I came in last year for a bike In August an the staff was very friendly. They showed me which tires to get and even showed me to a catalog if they didn't have exactly what I was looking for. Great store, I dropped my bike off today for a tune up and clean up package. The owner is very knowledgeable about Michigan biking. He was able to throw out a bunch of great suggestions on trail and road rides for this coming spring / summer. I have my eye on one of the 'sweet bikes' there now. No pushy sales here, open inviting clubhouse feel. With his great location in Canton, a short ride from my house, this is going to be my new go to bike shop. read more

This place made me feel good about shopping at a local business again. I stopped in there today while riding the I-275 bike trail to buy some oil for my rusty old chain and thought I'd see if they had an iPhone holder for my handlebars. I told them what I needed, they got it right away and even attached the iPhone holder to my bike for me. Now that's great service. I mentioned that I was looking into buying a new bike and the girl helping showed me a couple that are totally in my price range, seemed very knowledgeable, and was not pushy at all. The employee who I later found out to be the owner, was very rude and would not assist me when I told him I had been in the army. We took a bike in there to be serviced, after my wife was berated for the choice of bike we had, and this schmuck telling her it was department store bike-it was not, coped a huge attitude with her. They had it for 4 days, and these alleged "professionals" didn't pick up on the fact the front tire is binding on the front brake. I will never ever go into that store again!!
