They don't always honor the price match online even when it is their own pricing showing in Google shopping. I placed an item in my cart at $152 and when I went to pay for it the price went up in my cart to $234 the next morning. Google even says they still are selling it at $152 the next day. I contacted them explained, but they won't honor what their price is showing online for a service they sponsor. I first purchased from them over 10 years ago and had taken advantage of their price match on multiple occasions. I guess if they won't honor their own pricing I can't support them as a business anymore. I would consider this if you plan on using them as your local bike shop. read more

This is a great bike shop! I only stopped in briefly because I was in the area, I wanted to pick up a direct-mount top tube bag, which they had in stock. They even price-matched a competitor, which saved me a few bucks! Service was very friendly and honest. I'm not new to cycling but I am new to mtb riding so I talked to the gentleman (unfortunately didn't catch his name) about a few minor issues I was having, with numbing hands and such. He gave me some great tips, and they weren't all about trying to squeeze a buck out of me. For example, he talked to me about engaging my core more when I ride and gave me a handful of other useful tips. He also talked about other options I could look at in the future, such as handlebars with more sweep. I got his opinion on whether or not it's worth it for me to look at getting a new fork. I have a lower end model Timberjack that came with a Suntour XCR Air fork. Right here he could have very easily tried to sell me a new fork, but instead he took the high road and told me that since I'm new to mtb riding I should try riding my bike as-is for another year before deciding on something like that. I really appreciate honesty and low-pressure service, so I will definitely be making the trek back down to Tree Fort in the near future! read more

This is regarding my online experience. Their storefront maybe a different experience. So I ordered a very expensive bike frame and fork to begin my custom build. The package arrived poorly wrapped and the the items were damaged in several areas and missing parts. Eventually after having to call the manufacturer rep they responded and arranged to replace the frame. They offered to help me source parts for the build and possibly a small discount. Neither happened. I'm glad to say I spent another 3K elsewhere and finally finished my bike on our first 80 degree day of the year. read more

I made 2 orders a few days apart from each other... I received the second order in a timely manner but the first order never came... Like many others, I ordered because the website said if i ordered by such and such time, it would ship out today One thing they fail to email you is a tracking number so you can check if a order has shipped or not (until 10+ days later and you realize, it should have arrived already) Had they emailed me a tracking number, like most places do, I would have seen within a day or 2 that the order shipped out (or not!)... but I only figured it out when the second order arrived and days later the first one still didn't. I know its tough to compete with the likes of Jeff Bezos, but at the same rate, when you say you're going to do or say something, then its best to keep the word. I should have given 1 star because I don't like it when people sell things they claim to have in stock but don't I'm a 3 strikes ... you're out!!! kinda guy. I was actually grabbing a pizza from the place next door and decided to check out some bikes while waiting. I have been here before with my other bike for tuneups and I always said that I would actually get a bike from an actual bike store one day. The issue was always that prices are a little more steeper here but they are quality bikes. I had my eye on a bike by GIANT and Nate asked me what I was looking for. I told him I rode the roads but an occasional dirt roads also. He pointed me to a hybrid type bike and was very knowledgeable. The bikes even have disc brakes these days. Go figure! He even allowed me to take the bike for a little spin to try it out. Cool! I decided to splurge and go for it. I soon found out that bikes can be like luxury items. Most parts like a kick stand and bottle holders are extra. That's cool and expected when you buy a top of the line bike I guess. I love my bike and appreciated the help. read more

I'd avoid shopping here online. These guys pulled the old "bait and switch" on me by listing things on their website that they didn't have. Of course, once they got my credit card and personal info, I got an e-mail saying my purchase had been canceled. Did I get a phone call or customer service? Nope. Did I get any offer to give me a discount on a different product? Nope. In fact, even when I called them they didn't offer anything. They didn't even say "Sorry." All they said was, "Yeah, it must've been a database error." Seeing as that it's extremely simple to have a "correct" and "updated" database in retail (if you can't count, then how can you survive at all?), the only conclusion I can come to is that they did it on purpose to get or sell my e-mail address and/or identity. Disclaimer: this place is a couple miles from my house, so it's truly my LBS and I want it to succeed. But I've shopped in most of the other areaspike stores and this is truly my favorite, and not just because of the location. They match any advertised price. Their sale prices are great. Their selection is awesome (the warehouse is a couple stores down in the same strip mall so they have more stock on hand than it seems). Best of all their staff has always been extremely helpful. I'm not an expert rider, and they have always patiently answered my semi-dumb questions including steering me away from higher priced products and towards other stuff that suited my needs better. They didn't roll their eyes when I tried on almost all their helmets. Several times. They let me take bunches of bikes for test rides to make sure I was happy with my choice. They carefully tweaked the fit of the bike I purchased, and re-tweaked it when I brought it back for my free tune up after 500+ hard miles. They helped me choose a bunch of accessories and even helped me install several of them. And it's easy to quickly get in and out for a new tube or CO canister or bottle of chain lube. Über convenient. I plan to spend another big chunk of change there this spring on a new MTB. And I'm sure they'll make sure I leave happy and stay happy. A+. read more

Tree Fort Bikes is a great bike sales company. I'm just going to point out that it is VERY rare to find a bicycle company that has a 5 star rating. Cyclists are used to bike shops full of really rude and arrogant mechanics and sales associates. It comes with the territory I suppose. The Tree Fort Bikes company has such a good rating because of their commitment to customer service. My experience with Tree Fort Bikes is through their online shop. Their website offers instant price matching which is awesome so you get all you gear on one site at the cheapest price possible. Also, on two occasions I had to call their customer service operator and was really surprised with how well I was treated and how swiftly my issues were taken care of. Here's what happend: Phone call #1: I made an order on Sunday and realized that I needed the items by that Friday. I had forgotten to change the shipping from the free ground shipping to a 2-3 day shipping so I decided to call customer service. First off, there was no wait! You call and after about 10 seconds of instruction you're connected to a customer service rep. Instead of unnecessarily charging me money for shipping, the rep actually explained that they'd be able to ship it on Tuesday and I would get it by Thursday, which was well within my needs so I wouldn't even need to change my shipping preference. That's awesome!!! I got service quickly AND I saved some money! Phone call #2 I ordered a cycling jersey and it turned out that there was just a inch long cut along the seam of the jersey when I was trying it on after I got it. I called up customer service to see if I could get an exchange and just said "Hi my name is ***** ***** and I ordered a cycling jersey, I'd like to make an exchange..." The guy on the other end of the line responded to me by saying "you ordered a Brooklyn Brewery jersey size medium right?" I was stunned. He hadn't even looked up my info yet and already knew about my order. It says something about such a close knit company that real people are answering the phones and taking care of orders. They just care about their customers. I'd recommend this bike store to anyone that needs some quality parts and just wants to be treated with common decency. Its a pity now a days that too many bike stores carry quite a bit of arrogance with them. Online Store: I purchased a pair of cycling shoes online and--as I do with all of my online purchases--had them shipped to my residential address, which is different from my billing address. A day later, I received an email that my shipping address couldn't be verified, so I called customer service, waited, and gave them my billing phone number. This is where I should have just cancelled my order and ordered from Universal Cycles, which had the same cycling shoe at the same price; same shipping; same excellent reviews on Yelp. I received the same email an hour and a half later and called again, giving another billing number (either of them should have been correct). This wasn't worth my time. At this point I certainly should have cancelled my order and gone elsewhere. The customer service representative even had the nerve to lie to me about why my time was being wasted. He said that they verify this information for the protection of their customers. When you pay with a credit card, you're already protected from fraud. The verification was for their protection, so my time was wasted for their benefit; not mine. An hour later I received the same email a third time. I quickly emailed them back to cancel my order and ordered from Universal Cycles. My advice: Buy from Universal Cycles in the first place. read more

I needed a bike carrier to go with the hitch I recently bought, and Tree Fort carried it for the absolute best price and best deal on shipping. I had been researching the Saris Thelma and decided it was the system I wanted. Made my purchase on a Sunday and received an email saying it would be shipped on Wednesday. Sure enough, Wednesday came and I received an email with all the shipping info. On Saturday, it arrived and the box was free of any dings and / or dents (thanks FedEx). We have a pair of Siberian huskies that need regular exercise to keep the crazy in check. The best way to do this is to harness them up and hitch them to the bike for a run around the neighborhood. Even though we have pretty sturdy bikes, they're quite hard on the alignment and especially the brakes. We usually take the bikes in to Tree Fort once a year for maintenance and tune-up. The work is always impeccable and very reasonably priced. The only minus is they're so popular that it may take a while before we get the bike back. read more

I stopped by after work and went in (unknowing) just as they were about to close up for the day. I let the tech know I needed a derailleur adjustment. Expecting to hear "sorry; you can come back another time." I was very happy to have your man not bat an eye and say "grab your bike. I will get you fixed up bro". The service took a few minutes to get it working right, he checked everything out for shift function. Even took the time to explain a feature my shifter included that I had not yet discovered. pandemic musings: Placed an order. Order was "shipped" on time. Tracking via USPS showed they "received" it but that "acceptance" was pending. Coming off the same situation with another shop, where I never received the item, I was suspicious. After a few days with no change, I filed a complaint with USPS. I was actually called by a USPS employee who assured me that the paperwork for the package had been received, but no package. She said that they almost **never** loose packages and that has certainly been my experience, so I emailed TFB. Again, to my surprise, I was called (on a weekend) and assured that the package was delivered to USPS, but that they would issue a refund if I wanted. Long story short, they were right and USPS lied. USPS sat on the package for 5-6 days and suddenly "found" it again after I'd cancelled the order. These guys know what they are talking about. read more

*online review* With my first online purchase with TFB I started small to get a feel of buying from them. The bottom bracket purchase went smoothly. Months later while shopping for a new cross bike, I decided to make the purchase with them as my previous purchase went well, they have excellent reviews here and on mtbr and they were one of the few online places that had the bike I wanted. I ordered online on Monday and received the bike via FedEx on Saturday. There were issues with processing my card but after several calls to TFB and my bank the issue was resolved. The TFB folks were great to talk with on the phone. The bike arrived in a TFB branded box that was sturdy and protective. After removing the protective cardboard and foam and cutting a few zip ties I set about putting the bike together. Install handlebars, front wheel and saddle/seat post and pedals. A couple more adjustments and I went out on a test ride - perfect! They state online that they remove the bike from the factory box and take a day to service prep it. That means after you do simple assembly, you can hop on and ride immediately. No need for shifting or braking adjustments. *almost* turnkey purchase. A bike is a big purchase and doing it online could make one hesitant. Based on my bike purchase experience I wouldn't hesitate to recommend buying a bike from TFB. If you know what you want, what size you need and have basic bike mechanical skills then go for it! Tree Fort Bikes ROCKS! Git you some! read more

This is by far my favorite bike shop in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Area. I've done business with Wheels in Motion (also great) and Great Lakes (eh) and I always go to Tree Fort first these days. For mountain bikes and mountain bike parts in the area, you really can't do better. I've bought a Crank Bros. pedal set, a park-tool and a Camel Bak from them, all great purchases. I'll be buying my next bike at Tree Fort. One thing I always appreciate about a trip to Tree Fort is the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to talk about BIKING with you, not just sell you a bike. My fiancee, her brother and I went into Tree Fort purely to browse a couple of weeks ago and ended up spending 45 minutes chatting with the sales dude / webmaster on shift. He never got pushy, he never seemed preachy, he always prefaced his opinions by saying "in my opinion," and he chatted with us at length about all things mountain biking without the possibility of a sale (we let him know straight away we were there to browse and learn). I've had a couple of similar experiences with other employees there. This is the place to go if you want to avoid the hard/up-sell. The only downside to this shop are all the sexy Niner frames hanging up. They're just soooo tempting! read more
