Sic Transit Cycles replaced all the spokes on the rear wheel of a very old three speed bicycle that I had bought used. The wheel they fixed now turns without a wobble. The spokes are higher quality than on the original. Various other parts of the bicycle appear to have been tightened gratis. The price was reasonable. I will be back. read more

My shifter broke and I needed a new one. I called two other bike stores who basically said, "good luck with that! Shifters have been on back order for months." When I called this store , they confirmed that Shimano shifters aren't available but they checked their computer to see if they could get another brand. They found some and ordered them while we were still on the phone. They texted me when they arrived and I brought my bike to them. Two days later I have new shifters and my bike is working like a charm! This place is a little hard to find. The repair drop off is on Moore Street which is a one-way side street where Broadway becomes Plymouth. If you are coming from Kerrytown, take a left at the Moore/Maiden Lane stoplight. I can't believe I just discovered Sic Cycle after living down the block for close to a decade now. What a gem of a bike store! The staff here is friendly, helpful, and honest. They helped me pick out a nice starter bike to use for my standard work commute and leisure riding and I got to take it down Argo for a test ride. The staff decked it out with all the necessary bells and whistles before I rode off into the sunset...and down the block back home. The bikes are fairly priced. The one I bought cost exactly as much as the price posted by various online retailers, BUT a bike purchase at Sic Cycle also includes a two-year warranty with the shop! So if anything were to happen to the bike, I can just bring it back to the shop to get looked at fo' free! How nice for someone with no idea how to maintain bikes. I've already utilized the bike mechanics' services once--also a very good and hassle-free experience. I have been really pleased with my bike so far and am really glad I opted to buy my bike here instead of online. Great experience at Sic Transit -- my family has had two bikes tuned up here and bought a third. Service was high-quality and quick -- they were able to fix a flat while I waited, and a more significant tuneup on a different bike was turned around quickly and it was high-quality work. I also brought in a bike to be evaluated for a tuneup and the mechanics made a few adjustments no charge, and said I didn't need a tuneup after that; I really appreciated the honesty. Sales experience was also great: Mike let us test ride the bike as much as we wanted, even offering to let us take it out for several miles. He wasn't pushy during the sales experience and patiently explained important details. I took my bike here to fix two weeks ago. Today I picked it up and I loved the results. My bike was sitting outside for a year and they replaced all that Was needed. I also wanted a basket, but not really those typical ones, I wanted a good, strong & big basket and one of the guys got me exactly what I needed!! My perfect vintage produce box that Was Not on sale but he knew exactly what I wanted with my request! I am super happy and my cat too!!!! Loved it here!!! I am filled with shame and guilt as if I were a 14 year old boy caught looking at porn while in Catholic school. And yet, like him, I still walk away with the pleasure. Wow. That was taudry. Bikes do that to me. TWO YEARS it took me to walk into this shop and it is just what a bike shop should be. It's a small space packed FULL of gems. So full that they got a cargo shipping container just to store some of the extra stuff. Would you like to stare with admiration and desire at a vintage wool jersey? Just look up and you'll find a couple on the wall. Need wheels? Crane your neck more and you'll find a ceiling full. Bob Jackson frame? Tada! At this point in time I should reveal myself as a classic Italian bike-building enthusiast. In fact, I've been known to sacrifice dinner for a few weeks to gather money for a crankset. It's a problem. Well, less so now that I'm in the midwest. I was spoiled by cities where cycling is an identity, a lifestyle, and job. And here? Craigslist's got nothin' and neither do the bike shops. Thank goodness I found this place. It gives me hope and relights my fire. They have file cabinets full of loose smaller parts. They can order anything for you. They buy bikes and then rebuild them. Then they sell them. They fix bikes. They build wheels. Name a part and if they don't have it, they know what you're talking about, and they can call you if they get it in. Used or new, top quality or newbie quality, they've got it. I haven't tried any of their shop services but it looks like they have their stuff together. I trust any bike mechanic that is head to toe covered in bike grease and has an introverted demeanor. I sent them an email asking if they buy used bikes. Within a few minutes I got a response saying that they do. Five stars so far. Michael asks about the bike and says send a picture. So I describe the bike and send a picture. Within a few minutes I get another response. Nice fast response, five stars for sure. He asks what I want for it. I said I really have no idea what it's worth, but I'd be happy with $500 (bike was originally $2,000). Crickets. No response. Another day goes by, no response. Another day, no response. So I send another message asking if their lack of response means they don't want it. More crickets. Literally it's been a full week, no response. Totally fine if you don't want the bike. Totally fine if it's not worth that much. Not fine at all that when you decide a deal doesn't suit you, you can't even be bothered to send a reply. That says a lot about your business philosophy. read more

Brought a bike in for repair and the estimate of work is very reasonable and honest! I knew it wasn't going to take much more than just a new wheel and he was honest about what needs replacing and what does not. I asked for a tune up and he recommended a mini tune up because the bike was working fine. I appreciate honesty in folks like him. Highly recommended. Entrance is on Moore street although the address is on Broadway and limited and parking spaces so be warned. read more

Sic Transit is a great shop with a wide variety of bikes and accessories-- lights, helmets, pedals, etc, and they also stock a bazillion stems and handlebars, which is a bit unusual (but useful for their fitting studio upstairs, a.k.a. FitMI). Decent selection of clothing and gear, too. Bike selection isn't exactly low-end-- $1200-1600 All-City or Jamis, say- but they have a wide range of bikes to fit most needs. I haven't had service done here but I enjoyed shopping and picked up a couple of things. It's also in a lovely old building. :) read more

Love dealing with these guys. First came here last summer when my wife was looking for a new bike. Very pleasant, patient with our questions, no sales pressure whatsoever. We didn't do much more looking around before we returned to buy. A little while later, brought in my 1981 Nishiki road bike to be reconditioned, and they got it working like new. Since then we've bought a number of accessories there and had them install some upgraded parts. I've asked them a few incredibly naive questions (I've got roughly the mechanical IQ of a goldfish) , but they never make me feel silly asking them. If you're looking to get into, or deeper into, cycling, you'll do very well to come here. Plus, there's always GREAT music playing in the shop! read more

This is one top notch service business. Despite having a completely full service load/no openings today, when I came by an hour before closing with my bike in an unsafe condition that needed fixing before a trip up north, they made the time to fit it in and get it safe for me. Their expertise and problem solving with bike issues is among the best I've seen anywhere. They also service unusual configuration bikes (eg our Yuba Spicy Curry e-cargo bike) happily and competently, which not all places in town do. As an added bonus, during this COVID time they have great standards and were all wearing masks etc properly and consistently and have an open air setup. I generally don't like bike shops. At this point, if I can do something myself, or think I can figure it out with a couple youtube videos or calls to other bike buddies, I do it myself. After countless horrible interactions with the now, thankfully, closed GLC (may it rot in hell) and a few interactions at Aberdeen that had me scratching my head about "labor costs" (basically getting charged $15 to use one of their wrenches) I try to stay far away from bike shops. HOWEVER... I like sic. The people are really nice and helpful. I dealt with Brent recently and even though I was dealing with a frustrating problem he was super nice and charged me reasonably for his help and his time. Additionally, I was not even charged for a brake bleed block when I came into buy my yearly overhaul supplies (what a wonderful gesture! Thanks guys!). Good place. Good people. They seem excited about bikes and have always been kind and enthusiastic! Take your bikes to Sic, we need more trustworthy local bike shops in this world. read more

What a cool bike store! They seem to be mostly a repair shop, but also sell vintage bikes. Sometimes these stores specializing in vintage/used bikes fill their space with junk, but it's clear that these guys have a great eye for quality and do top notch work in restoring bikes. When I visited, there was a sweet Jack Taylor frame with a mod paint job and a couple Bottochias. Well, they obviously had a lot more bikes than that, but that's what stood out to me as really excellent finds that you don't see everyday. I'm pretty sure that whether you didn't have a clue what you wanted, or if you had a very specific idea, with a little patience these guys could fit you with a perfect bike. In talking to Mike, I found out they've also been doing a lot of those popular conversions to single speed. (It's what the people want, right?) These guys are really friendly, and it's clear they love what they do. I had a bit of a hard time finding the shop though. If you're coming from the west, when you're at the corner of Broadway and Maiden/Moore turn around and look back northwest. The door is actually on Moore, not off of Broadway. read more

I found out about Sic Transit Cycles by accident. They haven't been around very long, so they have remained somewhat underground and unknown to the average road-bike-seeker. I went into the shop and was greeted by Joe, one of the two young proprietors of this venture. I know little about bikes, but he answered all of my questions with patience. Because the first bike that I tried out didn't seem to fit me, Michael and Joe took my information and over the next week and a half built a bike tailored to what I was looking for. I'm extremely satisfied with the bike, it was in my price range and fits me well. I don't know of any other bike shops in lower Michigan that sell reconditioned road bikes & show the attention to detail and personal interest that Joe and Michael do. As a final note, there are few stores that I take business cards from to promote personally among my friends and at the places I frequent. Bought a bike here and could not be happier. The guys were incredibly helpful and Anthony was wonderful in helping me pick out my bike. I didn't feel talked down to even though I know virtually nothing about bikes beyond how to ride one. He helped me find a bike that fit my needs, was approachable and friendly. I didn't feel any pressure to buy any particular bike and I felt well-informed. This was not my experience at other bike stores in town, where I felt like either the sales person was just hawking bikes or that I needed to be some kind of expert. I will definitely send friends here for bikes and I have been really happy with mine so far. In the past, we've had a tube replacement on the repair side and felt happy with the service there too! Sic Transit Cycles is a great place for bicycle repairs, advice, or for buying older road bikes that have been reconditioned by the owners themselves. I knew zilch about bikes when I happened upon this place but my bike was not shifting at all...they explained what happened to me and fixed it for a very reasonable price. The owners, Michael and Joe, are clearly knowledgable and passionate about keeping bikes in excellent working order and getting more bikes on the road. Just go in and have a chat with them, you'll see what I mean. I've been to several bikes shops around town, for repairs and/or advice, I would definitely go here. My only critiques would be that their responsiveness to anything other than face-to-face communication can be slow and their online presence is confused (especially in relation to business hours). If you're in a hurry or want something done by a particular time, be sure to nail it down with them from the beginning. Also, call ahead to be sure they are there that day (more of a problem in the off-season). read more

I joined yelp just so I could review these guys. In short: bike mechanic excellence! I brought my old Schwinn le tour in after a rough winter of commuting. Mike was there and put my bike up and did a thorough inspection and gave his 'diagnosis'. My favorite thing was that he was really considerate and walked me through each issue on the bike and patiently listened to and answered my questions. My bike had significant repairs, and within a week it was done, at no huge cost to me. When I came to pick it up, they had me ride it around a little and explained everything that was fixed. Truly and excellent and reputable bike shop. Also, free air and grease for commuters when you stop by their shop during the week! Can't get any friendlier than that. My father has been an avid cyclist for over 35 years now, and he has had the same bicycle that entire time. He was always hesitant to replace his old friend, but had become more open to looking at other options recently. He had gone all over Ann Arbor, to just about every bike shop around, getting information, doing his research, and trying to make up his mind. My family and I decided we would all chip in to buy the new bike for him, but we did have to put a budget on the total price. He was having a hard time finding options he liked within the price range we gave him. That is, until we came to Sic Transit Cycles. We walked in the door and one of the owners, Joe, jumped right in to help us find exactly what we needed...and well within our price range, too! He picked out a bike and let my father test ride it across the street at Argo Park. Honestly, that is one of the best parts about this shop! A lot of other places didn't allow test rides, let alone encourage them. Sic Transit Cycles encouraged him to hop on and try it out, which is truly the only way to know if the bike is for you. With such a gorgeous park to test the bikes out, you can't go wrong! My father tried a couple of bikes out and decided to get the first bike he was shown. I think it says a lot about the staff that they listened well enough, from the get go, to pick out the perfect bike on the first try. While my father was testing the bikes out, my mother and I were offered a fizzy beverage, which was more than welcome on the 90+ degree day we were there. We browsed around the shop, which offers a lot of really great accessories, as well. My father, who, as I mentioned, was hesitant to replace his old bike, ended up having a bit of buyer's remorse the day after, and called the shop to ask about returning it. Luckily they talked him down, and told him to give it a little more time to get used to it. My father is pretty stubborn, so the fact that he listened to their advice also says a lot about their superb customer service! I am pretty positive my father will be back visiting for all of his future bike purchases, as well as for accessories. We are also looking forward to the 2 years of service on the bike, which is something many other shops didn't offer, either. I am so glad we came here, because I am sure my father would still be looking and researching bikes if it weren't for the wonderful people at Sic Transit Cycles! I was rebuilding my college son's bike that spent about 18 months in the elements on local campus. It was pretty badly rusted. I have a fair amount of experience on bikes and was trying to save a buck and do it myself since I am not currently working. new chain, tires, tubes, cleaning went well but brakes were heavily corroded. I ordered new ones on-line (mistake #1) I couldn't get several new cantilever brakes to fit on the busses. it was like I have the only 9.7 mm busses in the world on a stock huffy bike. After 5 days of screwing around I stopped by SiC Transit Cycles and talked in repair shop with cool hat "Mark". He took one look at the old part ( he never saw the bike itself) and correctly diagnosed that the brass sleeve of the former brake had broken off and was likely on the pivot buss making it bigger diameter. Told me how to get it off and with some patience it worked! I came back same day and bought a new brake for this bike and a full front/back set for my wife's bike (next project). Worked really well! This is my new Excellent Adventure Bike Shop and am planning to get all my parts (and advice) from them going forward. Maybe when I can get back to work I'll get a new bike from them . ..
