Cabela's is a wonderland our outdoorsy fun/games/sportsmanship. Are you hunter? Gatherer? Fisher? Archer? Kayaker? Backpaker? Anything Elserer? Chances are they're going to have what you're looking for, and more than likely in stock. There are other outdoor lifestyle chains out there, but none that measure up to the outdoor/wilderness environment that Cabela's has. From its rustic, natural(ish) décor to the outdoor displays to wildlife exhibits, you really do get that "I feel like I'm out in the woods" vibe. While I've always been a fan of Cabela's, this summer we found that they carry my absolute favorite line of bird seed. I'm a birder and feed 6 to 8 different types of feed in my back year nearly year round, and the fact that they have my favorite brand (Harvest brand bird feeds), but A) in multiple varieties and 2) IN STOCK immediately made this my go-to place when I need bird seed. We used to have to visit 3 or more retail outlets to find what I needed, but not any more. This has got to be one of the largest Cabela's in existence. Seriously. I've been to a number of them but this one just seems ENORMOUS. It's also got an absolutely beautiful 'front door' that can be seen from the expressway nearby. As I wandered around trying to find my bird seed (it literally took me over 10 minutes) I passed a number of staff members helping others and stocking shelves. OH...and an aquarium. There's a freakin' AQUARIUM in this Cabela's. As if the animals and all the outdoor displays aren't enough, they add an aquarium. read more

I recommend it in the sense that it is a location for guns, ammo, & accessories....other than that, it was a real let-down. BASS PRO has destroyed this company! I understand @ the time it was either BASS PRO purchase it, or the entire CABELAS franchise woulda probably gone belly-up...I get it. But the entire CABELAS ambience is gone. It's now just another BASS PRO Shop...big deal. The wildlife cafeteria is gone, the art gallery is gone, the aquarium is pitiful @ best, and the list goes on. Stood in line nearly 3 hours to purchase a gun. Once I was number one on the board I waited an hour before I was waited on. I watched as the CSR count went from 4 CSrs to 1. The manager sent the other 3 to lunch. I talked to several customers that had been waiting with me. Some were just picking up guns bought previously or online yet there was no signage telling them where to pick up. Others were just buying accessories. Why can't just any associate help them? I am positive watching people leaving without their purchase in disgust Cabelas lost $1000's in sales. Also the manager didn't bother acknowledging any of the customers or let anyone know how long they needed to wait for service. Working in customer service myself for over 30 years it did take me long to figure out the manager doesn't care at the expense of the employees and the customers, Get your shit together Cabelas or I'll buy my guns elsewhere and toss your credit card in the shredder. read more

I ordered a gun on linene and drove 130 miles round trip to pick it up. While I was there I also picked up some ammo for a few other guns, a gun case, 300 rounds for the new gun a few extra magazines for the new gun and signed in to see an outfitter. After waiting 40 minutes, I unloaded my cart--approximately $500 and went to the service desk. I asked to see a manager and the high school kid asked why. I explained I had been waiting 40 minutes and I left my cart and was leaving the gun and thought maybe the manager would like to know why the store just lost a $1200 sale. The boy said no, managers are busy and that I just had to wait. I asked for a manager again he said no. I asked if he was refusing to call a manager and he said yes. I left the store and tried calling the store and was connected again with the boy at service desk. He says managers ae too busy to be bothered by customers. I said fine I would call corporate and the boy said go ahead, it doesn't matter. This is My last experience to Cabellas and I will put my credit card on the back burner and never return or order again. HAVE A GREAT DAY!! read more

Tina at the club table entrance was very nice and knowledgeable, I almost signed up for the club membership but being my first time at a Cabelas I wanted to think about it before I say yes. Nancy at the shoe department was very helpful and Melissa at check out was very nice and helpful too. I found what I was looking for and I love the entire display of waterfalls and rivers through the store. The aquarium and the mammoth size bears at the front by the boats. Will definitely come back. I walked every inch of this place. It took me all day, but I did it and I wear it as a sort of badge of honor. To call Cabela's huge is an understatement. To compare it to Costco is inaccurate. Costcos are huge but they have fewer items, owing to their warehouse model. Cabela's has more individual items and so much more shelf space. Definitely wear your best walking shoes!! Love the aquarium and how they integrated the mountain and fountain at the center of the store into the landscape of the shopping experience. Oh! And you better like taxidermy. I stopped by here with a friend of mine on our way back from a winetasting on the west side. I'm not much of an outdoors person, but it was still fun to check it out. I tried on some camo jackets, the orange hunting hat and some hunting buddies. I can see that a lot of outdoors men and women would definitely have I need to come here. There's so much here for every outdoor activity imaginable. If I ever become more our doorsy, then this would be the place for me. read more

Went to pick up my curbside pickup and couldn't get an answer 4 times. Cool, so I pulled in front and went in for my order. As I'm finishing a lady gets on speaker to announce the car in front needed to be moved and was illegally parked. Normally I wouldn't be bothered BUT if you've got the extra time to scout cars then for sure should've met curbside standards and at minimum picked up the phone that was called 4 times to notify the store of arrival. Do better and maybe I won't "illegally park" next time. Don't give me attitude when I had to come in due to the stores lack of employees, customer service, etc. read more

This place is a wonderful place to shop for the hunter, fisherman in your life. So much varies and anything you possibly need. I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed and the cost might be a little on the high side but it's definitely good quality. read more

Pretty sure the employees here profile or at the very worst are racist due to my ethnicity. I've been here multiple times and multiple times have had bad experiences. I've been blatantly not acknowledged, experienced mean customer service, and turned away for no reason even though I was in line first but they stated the gun counter was closed, and they addressed the Caucasian people who came after me first. This is specifically for the gun counter. Which I guess makes sense since there is just a bunch of fudds working behind the counter. read more

Been passing this place for the past 3 years and today we finally had the chance to stop and look inside. Wow, this has to be the second largest Cabela in the country. This is a sportsman superstore .if you can't find it here then it doesn't exist .from survival items, ATVs ,boats ,food ,guns , ammo, hunting and fishing store with a restaurant.large parking lot safe and secure.the store is awesome if you are into camping fishing hunting shooting this store is a must see.the store has a aquarium .a 3 story waterfall that feeds a creek that is stocked with fish .and one of the largest animal mount collection I have ever seen .they also sell alot of clothes. don't forget to visit the second floor barging center.its free to walk around and visit.they teach classes as well.you can spend hours in this store . read more

Can I find a tennis racquet here??? I asked somebody that and they had the "deer in headlights" look. OK, so I am not an outdoorsman. This termonology means hunting, fishing, shooting guns, stabbing things. That's not me. I am the outdoorsman who plays tennis, golf, swims, etc type. This is not my place for those sports, but I really like all the choices of all their other stuff. Men's casual clothes, stuff for your dogs, flashlights, sunglasses and many more. It's worth the trip here just for all those other things. Woh Cowboy! This place is a tourist attraction and retail sporting good superstore, all rolled into one. We only trek down to Cabela's when hubby needs a new knife or it's time to get a gift for the hunters in the family. It's cool to wander around and check out all they have to offer, even if their products aren't really your style. Huge place with lots of people, all the time. Lots of very interesting people. I really enjoyed checking out the camping gear. There are gadgets for camping that I never knew existed! Lots of stuff for kids to see (look, don't touch) but only if they are exposed to the hunting culture. Otherwise, they might have nightmares. (Mountain of stuffed animals on the prowl and take down other animals) Only thing I HATED and I do mean absolutely drove me out of the store early: kids with pop guns/rifles. Dozens of little kids making pop-sounds everywhere. Annoying! read more

This place is like an amusement park! I want to give it more stars, but my boyfriend and I were standing around trying to find someone to help us (he was interested in buying some waders). Many of the employees in the section ignored us or went straight to other customers who had just gotten there. Meh. Eventually we did find some help and completed our purchase. We went upstairs to the restaurant and enjoyed an elk burger, bison brat (tasty, but there were chunks of bone or something in it), and some fries. It was a fun experience. read more

We visited cabelas mostly for the kids to enjoy the scenery of the animals. They had some good sales and the kids loved checking the place out! The absolute only complaint I have is: the people in the cafeteria/restaurant area, were not diligent with time nor very friendly. The food was decent. read more

This place is a hunting superstore combined with an amusement park -- the aquarium, trout stream & stuffed game animals are some of the amusements to be found. If I were a hunter, I'd be ga-ga over this place. I think it's OK as a place to get a few unusual items that I'd otherwise have to order on the internet. This place has a ginormous parking lot, is set up for RVers with a kennel for their dogs, and with the restaurant in the store and a ring of stores (including a jerky store, Tractor Supply, etc.) ringing this attraction, you can tell they want you to stay a while and spend a lot. Living just a few towns away, I have been there a handful of times. I have purchased camping gear and stuff like boots and running shoes there, but the focus of the place is NOT jogging or marathoning. Go to a real running store if you're not sure exactly which pair of running shoes to choose. I happened to find a couple pairs of my favorite type on sale, so I couldn't resist. Our major purchase: We got our meat grinder here. If you make your own pet food, you know you have to use a grinder tough enough to chew up the bones. We got the 1/2 HP grinder, and it is enough to do fresh, raw chicken femurs. I wouldn't try that with beef bones, however. We might get a food dehydrator in the future, because of all the trouble with pet-grade jerky from China. I get the jerky made in the US, but I still wonder if one of my cats is reacting to some of the ingredients. If I can feed her right, she's very healthy, but she can't eat even the premium cat kibbles. If you have a pet with food sensitivities, it is best just to make your own food and treats. Another major purchase: two pairs of snowshoes and a PAIR of Jet sleds. A Jet sled is usually used by hunters to drag their deer back to the truck. We use ours for sledding with the dog. She's a working breed of dog, so she needs a job to be happy. We let her haul things for us. We customized the sleds with braking ropes by drilling a couple of holes in the back of each sled to attach the braking rope. We use the Jet sleds and snowshoes up north when the snow is deep. Update: We got on their mailing list and received a ton of mailings over the years. We tried calling the local store several times, but the mailings kept coming. I just spent some time on the phone with their order taking department at 800-237-4444. It took a while for the person to find the accounts and then click the box to stop the mailings, but I think this time it'll work. It always takes a little while after you make the request. read more

Went to the Dundee store today. The upstairs restaurant was closed for good. Which disappointed me, I liked shopping then take a break for lunch then finish shoppin. I spend a good amount of time and money in the store. The quality of clothing has gone down hill. Redhead flannels and other items fall a part and shrink like you wouldn't believe after washing them. Other quality item that Cabala's has been known for are disappearing from there stores and cheep "made in china" items are filling the shelves. I did notice the fishing area was well stocked but that didn't surprise me, after all it is a Bass Pro shop really not Cabela's. read more

If you are in management, you should think about looking into the focus of the people on your floor. After 45 minutes I had 2 people greet me and 2 fishing ignore me. This is not what I expected from previous experiences. Stocking and inventory should not be placed above your customers. But then again, the silent treatment definitely does convey a message. Not sure if there are other issues involved as I didn't look like anyone else in the store. This is located in SE Michigan and diversity isn't widespread here. Mabey they were thrown off by my topcoat and business casual dress. Customer service definitely communicated to me that they were short staffed and ignored my statement about being ignored by the two people in fishing. There was probably one other customer that I saw in the 20 minutes spent there in fishing. But according to customer service, they were short staffed. No service. Excuses for lack of customer service. The one highlight is that the store is immaculate and the gorgeous expectation you expect from Cabela's. read more

The store is nice but the service is terrible!!! We purchased a firearm online and the email instructions on where to pick it up were not correct. After standing in the wrong line for about 15 minutes, we finally figured out where to go and then it took roughly one hour to complete the transaction. No sense of urgency on the part of people working there whatsoever. Add to that a 15 minute wait in the regular checkout line and we walked away saying "Never Again!!!" read more

I was not there for hunting or fishing equipment. This a great place to visit with kids. Our little one enjoyed the variety of animals and the fish in the aquarium. The staff seemed friendly and willing to help us find anything. I noticed they have a restaurant on the second floor. Overall- great place to shop of you love fishing, camping, and hunting. Kids will enjoy looking around at the animal. Perfect spot for most families. read more

I was looking for a particular firearm to purchase in this "time of cholera". Guns, ammo and reloading of course panic bought out. I found the gun in the Gun Library in Reno , NV. I asked them to ship it to Dundee which, surprising they did even though they were apparently closed. Dundee GL actually took the time to contact me it was in. This was no "ordinary" firearm and came from a custom manufacturer. Spent a long time finding it but, it came in, so to Dundee I go. Now the rush was calming and I walked right up to "Jim" the outfitter who assisted me. Nothing like they use to be like. Very low quality and a very high price. No employees anywhere and the ones you do find ate unpleasant.

The worst cabelas in the state. It's hard to mark them down for not answering their phones considering almost none of them do. But when the Dundee location answers their phone, every single one of them have the tone of "wtf do you want". I've called week after week asking for firearms department and once in a while when they answer I ask them if they have a specific firearm in stock. They say no, I'll ask if they know when they'll have more, they don't know. Which is understandable but offer no other options. Just silence. I learned you can just purchase guns off their website, and go pick it up at the store when it arrives. These people don't tell you this on the phone. Zero customer appreciation. Every time I come in the store it's the same way in person. Especially the firearms department. Condescending and rude. Camping and Checkout folks are glowing and awesome. That's about it. Decided to cut up the members club card and just buy my guns at a gun shop from now on. read more

After decades of purchasing through the Cabela's catalog, I made my first pilgrimage to this ginormous palace to sporting consumption and wretched excess yesterday. (Update to previous reviewer: the laser shoot-em-up place is closed.) I fish, but I don't hunt, because catch and release doesn't work with hunting. I also canoe, and hike, and all that outdoors stuff, so there are lots of items here for my amusement. The Temple To The Mighty Firearm room is kinda cool, if you want to drop seventy grand on a gun. If you are squeamish about stuffed heads, stuffed bodies, stuffed customers, you may not be comfortable inside. Good god, the size of some of these beasts! (Normally I wouldn't object to stuffed wildlife, but hey. African elephant WITH the tusks? Come ON. Oh, wait... it was gunned down by Massah Cabela his OWN self. Okay, then!) Cabela's makes some fine quality equipment, in all price ranges. Their boots are among the best I've ever worn, and they try to have a "store brand" that is comparable to most of the big-buck name brands.This store is more like a shopping mall than a single store, with lots of stuff to keep you amused. Legendary Guarantee is not what it is claimed to be. Their guarantee states that Cabela's branded clothing is guaranteed for the life of the product. I was at the Dundee store today and their customer service rep explained that "Life of the product" is defined as one year. The most expensive coat I've ever purchased, a Cabela's branded coat, came apart after about 20 uses. However, since it was over one year old the Dundee store customer service rep told me it was out of warrantee. Too bad. Looks like the Lifetime Guarantee is a pretty short life. Guys at the gun counter don't follow their number system - just grab a guys attention and your good to go. Don't waste your time waiting with a number. I waited an hour to ask a simple question about a gun barrel that I was interested in after many people were just walking up and were attended to (throwing their number 15 higher than mine on the floor). I brought a gun and had it checked in because I wanted to show him the gun and get information about what I wanted to do with it. The guy helping me wasn't interested in looking at my gun and pointed me at bunch of barrels - He couldn't even answer the questions regarding the grip options and tactical accessories. I felt like I was bothering him after my hour long wait as he would barely make eye contact looking all over the store while I was talking to him. Told the manager in the front of the store while checking out about what happened and she really didn't seem concerned about the poor service. Unfortunately, this is probably par for the course here. I will go to BASS Pro or save a few bucks and gas money and buy online rather than waste my time here. The whole reason to go to the store is for support and these guys just don't care attitude about service. I hope somebody in management takes notice of these issues and corrects a real problem in the gun area. The store is very good otherwise and never leave empty handed when we go. read more
