Region is a self-serve wine bar located in The Barlow in Sebastopol so you will be surrounded by shops, restaurants, and so much more! We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and you are given a wine card and instructions on how it all works. After that, you are left to explore the many incredible local wines they have here. You select the wine you want to try and the size of your pour and you have over 50+ local wines to choose from so it's an excellent way to try out some amazing wines! Many are smaller wineries so it's great that you can discover these wineries this way! You pay at the end and you will have the option to buy any wines that were your favorites. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the area is spacious so you will have lots of options as far as seating. The service here is excellent! It has a relaxed vibe and is a great place to hang out. They have a food menu and you can select items from WM CoField Cheesemakers, Acre Pizza, or The Farmer's Wife and it will be delivered to you so you really have it all in one place, which is really nice and convenient. I highly recommend checking out their website for events that they have with the different wineries. During these events you can try out a flight of wines from a specific winery and take a deeper dive into their wines! They also have other fun events as well! This was my first time ever at an interactive winery, such as this with a machine, yet there are two wine connoisseurs behind the counter that are available for questions as well as bottle service service if need be. I honestly love this concept where everything is self-serve and I just grab a wine glass and pick a wine, swipe my credit card and then pick the amount of wine. I want to taste! So cute and quaint! If you have questions, there's an employee behind you that is more than willing to help you but it's really so open and Free I really love the concept!! This whole Barstow area has such a cute Homie, family and safe feeling as I walked around with our dogs. I was able to taste wines here and there as well as pick up different snacks/food and bring them to each restaurant that poured wine or beer. Lol. We definitely should have never brought the puppies, but they needed to go out and I'm glad we got to explore this cute little area! I love all the little boutiques as well as this particular winery, which had some local Napa favorites of mine, as well as some other far places! I couldn't get a full picture of the left side of this reconfirmed Apple farm refinery because they were were tables and people sitting at all of the comfy tables with their own snacks, but this particular winery had a lot of room and I could see my girlfriends and I coming here for a day as well as lunch! I really like coming to Region because you can get wine tastings from various varietals and wineries. Although the tastings are pricey, you still really get to try a wide variety of wines. The tastings are priced by ounces, so if you are unsure about something start with the smallest sample to see if you like it. They have a great outdoor seating area with tables and chairs and also very comfortable couches. The customer service is excellent. Another nice feature they offer is you can order from Acre Pizza nearby and have it delivered to Region while you're tasting. I understand that they may be adding more restaurants to order from but for now Acre Pizza is where you can order from. read more

They really don't have food though you can order from the various other places and bring it in, it's a good open space with inside and outside seating on couches, tables or chairs. It is pretty much self serve after you get your account card. Wine pours are very small for the cost, 3 oz pours and 6 oz pours maybe sized wrong for ~$7-9 and ~$14-16. Region is officially part of our holiday tradition! Here's what we love: - Heated outdoor tent with ample seating and comfy chairs/sofas. They have fireplace tables too. - You can pick from over 50+ wines on their wine wall - it is serve-yourself with a card and you can pick a 1oz, 3oz, or full glass pour. - You can order food from The Barlow restaurants to be delivered right to your seat! This is our second year in a row of ordering food while we sip wine in the tent area. - The wine selections focus on Sonoma area wines from smaller wineries you may not find or try otherwise. I love that they are highlighting these spots - one we loved and plan to do a winery tasting at next year! - Service is always friendly and hospitable. We had lovely conversations with a few of the staff this year, and they're always helpful in giving wine recs and bringing out our food. Only negative is that prices are a bit steep - $6-$11 for a half-glass pour can add up fast if you're staying for a few. But we find it worth it to support smaller wineries and this spot! read more

This place is going to be a big hit. I heard one customer describe it as "like Dave & Buster's, but for alcohol!" When you arrive the welcome is polished, professional, and warm. The ambiance is great, clean, airy, with indoor and outdoor options. The selection of wines is immense and well catalogued. I hear you can order food from anywhere in the Barlow complex and it'll be delivered at no extra charge. Everyone there looked to be having fun and the wine vending machine angle is intriguing. You choose the wine, the size of the pour, prices are clearly displayed, that's pretty cool. For me it was just a little too in the vein of check your own groceries, ride in a Waymo, order Grubhub and have it left at your door. It eliminates most of the human connection and reduces labor costs. But labor is people, and people is why I go out. Of course folks will say 'I want to spend time with my friends, and we did that at Region' -- fair. It's an interesting concept, the machines are pretty amazing, and ... it's just not for me. TBF my wife loved it and dropped a bit of cash buying wine bottles and the smart little sampler tubes they sell. Check it out and decide for yourself. read more

The concept: a pour your own adventure wine bar. Exchange your credit card for a region card and stick it into a pour machine. Choose from different whites, pinks and reds at a variety of price points for a taste, half glass or full pour. There were about 30-40 different bottles to choose from! Besides the fun concept, we got to enjoy the beautiful backyard space as part of a wedding welcome event. Our friends rented a portion of the space for a no host event. They had a beautiful warm space with tables and fireplace lounge areas. They don't serve food but you can order from any of the next door restaurants and it gets delivered to the wine bar to you! Self-service wine bar with excellently-sourced variety of wines! This self-serve wine bar is a great space to meet up with friends or divergent wine palates. The space is large and bright with plenty of space for groups. I love that they are dog-friendly, and enjoyed petting a number of furry friends in between sips. You get a wine card from the counter, grab a glass from the wine wall and select which wine and how large of a pour you would like (tasting, half or full glass). If you want to do a side-by-side comparison of any of the wines, simply grab a second glass! I appreciate the flexibility of the set up and the fact that they leave booklets at every table that offer tasting notes and region descriptions for you to self-educate while you imbibe. There are plenty of "pour your own beer" places but this is the first pour your own wine that I've seen! There is a large and great variety of wines to choose from of all grape varietals and you have the option of either a 1 oz taste, half glass, or full glass that is dispensed by the machine after you select your size. Some of the wine tastes are more affordable than others and the machine tasting fees can add up quickly. I think this is experience is still comparable in price to going to one Napa/Sonoma winery and getting tastings of that winery's wine only. With that said, it is still more than worth the price to be able to try a huge variety of different wines from different places that you choose. If you aren't sure, the staff is very knowledgeable on all the wines available and can help you choose what to try. Their bottle prices are also reasonable and not marked up! Region is a much loved self pour winery located in the Barlow. The interior of the winery is sophisticated, well lit with its high ceilings and garage style doors. The outdoor patio is shaded and perfect for large groups. There is a menu book with descriptions for all the drinks offered as well as food you can order via QR code. I had my bachelorette party here and we had an amazing time. The staff were so nice and friendly. Its always a great experience when the staff genuinely like their job and are always smiling. The process is pretty smooth and easy. You walk up, create an account with Region and give them a credit card to have on file. From there, they will provide you a card to use to insert in the machine and you just select the amount you would like to sample. The selection is amazing. There's everything from reds, whites, and rosé from across the Russian River area. The card will be charged by the amount poured out of the spout so even if the bottle runs empty, you won't be overcharged for it. Be sure to mark Region as a must visit when in Sebastapol. Love. This. Place. What a concept! Not a new one, perhaps, but new to me! I'm odd in that I enjoy a buffet (a good one) because I like tasting bites of as many options as possible! My friends know and love me and are trained to offer me a small taste. (Sort of kidding.) Tapas restaurants are my jam. So, this wine tasting room is the equivalent of high end buffet. LOVE IT. Pricey? Sure. (I'm not a big drinker so I do the 1oz pours.) But I get to experience wines from places I might not otherwise get to enjoy. On our second visit, we became "members" which is basically a no-brainer if you plan to ever return. 2 half glasses of wine from the featured winery every time we go. Done! We go a couple times a month and each time find a new wine to try. We often split that night's flight as well. EXCELLENT staff. One of my favorite aspects is the relaxed, dog-friendly social vibe. Depending on our mood, we've sat quietly by ourselves, brought a group of friends, and a few times just started chatting with people sitting nearby. Sonoma County provides grape growers a wide variety of climate and soil conditions. With over 400 wineries in Sonoma County there is a varietal to suit any taste. Which brings me back to why I love Region. Being able to enjoy tastes of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs all with different styles in one lovely setting was wonderful! Sonoma County produces some of the best wines in California. So I was def the kid in the candy shop! Customer service was off the hook! Kyle, Jamie and Kari were fantastic. Had a personal interaction with each of them. Wow...they know their stuff AND are so enthusiastic about it all! Obviously Region has top notch staff to match their top notch wines. Exchange your credit card for a "wine" card which provides access to your selected wines. Choose a taste, half of glass or a bottle. Place your wine glass under the spout and out it comes (obviously not the bottle selection). Then enjoy! While imbibing you may wander around the high-ceilinged, gorgeous inside area or lovely patio. I had so much pleasure chatting up interesting people while sipping and appreciating this new experience. There is sooooo much more to Region than I am able to write. I would be here forever. Region was the perfect venue to celebrate my friend's birthday. It is a self-serve wine bar, where you receive a wine dispensing card that you can use to try different wines from throughout the Russian valley region. The variety was great, service was friendly, and we had ample room for our big group to spread out and even cut a birthday cake. They also have happy hours specials as well- and it was such a steal at half off the price! I've been going two Bodega Bay for my birthday two years in a row now with some good friends and this has become our favorite stop. The self pour wall is impressive and I wish the East Bay had something like this. The staff is always fantastic and its great that they offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with parking a plenty. There is a great selection of wines but I do wish they had more bubbly and that it wasn't dependent on the serving pouring but I get that sparkling is more complicated. In the meantime, I'll be praying for technology to change that. read more

I Iove to come here, try some new wines or old favorites and order lunch from one of the many nearby restaurants that deliver. This is also a place I like to bring visitors to Sonoma county to introduce them to the wide range of wines and wine styles the region has to offer. Visitors can sample wine (and if they choose, buy bottles) from a number of high quality small producers who they might never hear of otherwise -- but they can taste wine from some of the big names as well. I LOVE IT! We have been wating to try Region and got a few tips from friends so we made some time to enjoy a afternoon out. You can only make reservations for parties of 6 or more (wish they accept all reservations) so we came at opening time to make sure we had a place to sit. The hostess explained how it works. We got one card for the 4 of us and you just stick it in the machine and you either get a tasting, half glass or full glass. Each wine has the prices of each poor right on the machine and after each poor the machine will say how much you have spent so far. So basically it's an open tab. I'm ready to drink wine from every region in Sonoma County, thanks to the unique concept that is the wine tasting room that is Region! Located in The Barlow, which is an outdoor marketplace in Sebastopol, California filled with shops, restaurants, breweries, and other wine tasting lounges, Region is just one of many places that serve wine, but nowhere else is quite as unique. Opening a year ago from founders Kerry Thedorf and Johan Eide, Region takes its inspiration from many of the local craft brew pubs where customers can sample their beers with a little taste before they order a full glass. At Region, they focus on regional wines, hence the name where give you a taste of Sonoma, where wine bottles from over fifty local purveyors are hooked up to a wall of self serve wine stations that use argon gas to preserve them and a unique air pumping system that drops 1-ounce pours into your wine glass for less than $2. They also have 2 1/2 and 5-ounce pours available from a range of $4 to $12 on the lower end with some of their more expensive wines in this category being $15 to $49 for the most expensive Cabernet Sauvignon. A vast sampling of different wines can be tasted for under $20 for two people, which is exactly what a friend and I did on a warm Saturday afternoon. Parking on this day was especially challenging to find as the Barlow was packed with customers, but we managed to get lucky with one remaining spot in their multitude of parking lots. Upon entry to Region you will see a light airy space filled with communal tables and sofas along with a wall filled with column upon column of bottles ready to be sampled. They also have ample outdoor seating on their patio that can be used for both outdoor dining and drinking where food can be ordered from a nearby restaurant at The Barlow. Perhaps the reason why Region was buzzing on the day we went was due to the fact that Region had a special event going on today and instead of using the additional indoor space to serve as a showcase for a local winemaker to pour their own bottles of wine, on this day they hired a caterer to serve complimentary barbecued oysters on the half shell to all attendees. A staff member was nice enough to guide us around the entire concept of Region before we got started, as she compared it to a candy or yogurt shop but with wine, you check-in at their front desk by leaving your credit card in order to receive physical card which then allows you to put into their wine pouring wall to sample as many wines as you want at the prices you want to sample them at. After my friend signed up for their Premier Member Card for 20 dollars and left her credit card on file as we both decided to use her card and I would pay her back, which turned out to be the most expedient process for the day. We both decided to do a progressive wine tasting by starting off with 1 ounce pours of their white wines, and as we were walking around their wine wall, a tasting room associate came by with a fresh bottle of their 2019 AldenAlli Chardonnay which although made in Santa Barbara County, as its grapes are sourced from Sonoma County. With a bright lemony finish, this Chardonnay had a delicate balance without being overtly dry, which made us equally pleased. For my second pour, their 2016 Eric Kent Syrah with grapes grown in Atoosa's Vineyard in Sonoma County was calling my name. With flavors of black cherries and blueberries with hints of various spices, I found this wine to be intensely inviting on the palette. Since I was only here to sample some wines, my last 1 ounce pour of their 2018 Calluna Vineyards Estate Cuvee Blanc from the Chalk Hill region of Sonoma, this red blend wine had a nice balance to end my tasting thanks to the round tannins and bright acidity. Our experience at Region was so wonderful because we never felt rushed sitting in their tasting room as the air from the patio came wafting in. This also gave us aspiring oenophiles a chance to sample a wide variety of wines fresh from bottles, many of which came from wineries that we have never tried or even heard anything about. Many of the bottles being served don't have wine tasting rooms so this is the perfect introduction to them and on the off chance maybe you will consider buying a bottle, but with zero pressure to buy anything. The fact that the wine comes out of machines only adds to the fun in addition to having special events such as their one-year anniversary party and special musical guests only adds to the lively experience. Wow what a perfect way to spend a Covid-day in the finally fresh air! Worth a trip and absolutely worth a stop if you're nearby. Region is a new wine tasting concept - they carry all local wines (from the region... get it) that don't have their own tasting rooms. Lots of great finds and some delicious tastings. It's all self service. You get a card (for $2.99) and go to what's essentially a vending machine, put in your card and choose the size of your pour - 1oz, 2.5oz, 5oz, or a bottle. Each wine tasting is priced differently. Region is inside The Barlow, a cute outdoor mall area with restaurants, wineries. Best of all, you can order food at Region from the other restaurants and they'll deliver it to you for free! We spent several hours in the sun, enjoying the wine and snacking on food. I'm sure this is an amazing space for the wine connoisseur, but I'm here to put in a word for any wine newbies out there. I often spend my vacation days here and there up in Sonoma County, and wine tasting is one of those things I've wanted to try but for years avoided out of pure self-consciousness. Mind you, I'm a 42yo woman, so this is decades of feeling too intimidated to broach an environment I didn't feel accessible to me. I know a lot of people say they don't really know wine -- but I'll do you one better. I'm anosmic; I was born without a sense of smell. So, the nuances in wine are entirely lost to me. Cassie made me feel immediately welcome and warmly so. She barely skipped a beat when I told her I have anosmia. She was patient and attentive, walking me through some options that I would experience differently on my palate even without the nuances of taste and smell. It was truly a great experience, and I am so happy I braved taking the wine tasting plunge here. I never felt silly or condescended to, and was actually able to experience wine in a way I haven't before. You basically get to load money onto a card and then sample wines from a self-serve wine wall... such a blast! You get to select the size of the portion for winetasting and they also offer bottles. But the personality of the staff ran from disinterested (waited at the counter about 10 minutes before being helped) to snobby (I was actually scoffed at by an employee when I told them I enjoyed one of the wines I tried).
