I came here with a friend to catch up and have a quick lunch. I usually pass by this place and the outdoor section is packed so I figured it would be a nice place to come to. I was having trouble figuring out what to order since the menu is pretty big, but I saw another table order a fajita dish. So that prompted me to order a skirt steak fajita and my friend order the Mexican shrimp dish. We also ordered some Mojitos, which were good, but my friend ended up getting a headache from drinking it. Back to the food, we both thought it was delicious up until I got extremely sick. It took about 20 minutes for it's a kick in, but my stomach was in shambles. I had to rush home because I was feeling so bad and I almost didn't make it. My friend did not get sick, but I will never come back due to what the food had done to my stomach. I'm not sure how I got sick, but it definitely was this place since it was the only thing I had to eat for the day. I also wanted to comment on the service, the waiter made us feel weird, and he was very unattended to when we were ordering. Again at the moment, the food tasted delicious, but I wouldn't come back for my reason.

Excellent spot! Great drinks, good food. Very good service. And the playlist is awesome. We discovered this place after visiting the Met Cloisters and we were so happy! We will be back for sure.

Vegetarian Taco Salad and side of black beans

We got takeout here which was a pretty solid meal for a good price. The vegetarian taco salad was pretty standard - nothing special but it hit the spot with lettuce, tomato, veggies, and guac in a tostada. It didn't come with any beans, so I ordered a side of black beans which was enormous (see photo) and delicious. My partner got something from the brunch menu which included a $3.95 frozen margarita and chips and salsa, which they let us eat outside at their tables while we waited for the takeout to be ready. The staff was lovely, the service was quick, and the food was good.

Good food and generous portions. The prices are a little high, but you will take home plenty of leftovers

Very 'Americanized' Mexican food, not my favorite. Drinks were pretty good and the ambience has a nice neighborhood-feel. Service was good.

I was so pleased to see that the quality is amazing and service is exceptional across the board. Be prepared for a line at this location, since it's close to a lot of tourist attractions. Don't let the line intimidate you though, it goes by super fast. Not a lot of space to sit and eat your food, but you'll get the full on Mexican taco stand experience. I recommend at least three tacos if you're hungry. My favorite are the asada tacos and the adobada tacos, but you can't go wrong with anything here. Get your drink there and a slip with your food items on it. Take the slip to the next counter where they prepare it. They're masters at it so they're cranking out a taco probably every 15 to 20 seconds. There's a line of workers operating the grills to get the meat and tortillas ready for the prep guys. So efficient. No seats. You stand and eat which really keeps the turn over rate high. The inside is no frills. Standing room only to eat your tacos and exit. The food is so good. $6 a taco but it's NYC. Love everything about this place and I try to frequent it for a quick bite as often as I can.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

The birria tacos were really good (or so my son said) but sadly the taquitos were terrible. They literally just had unseasoned shredded chicken (but serves me right for ordering something so basic). The salsa also tasted more like tomato paste than actual salsa. But again, the goal for this stop was a frozen marg(s) and that mission was accomplished and then were good . The atmosphere was also fun and lively and our server was attentive and never tried to push us out the door despite sitting there for a while!

The energy was flat, and that lack of enthusiasm carried right into the food. The menu needs a complete overhaul. I'm not sure if it's trying to be "different," but the taco options were unappealing just from reading the descriptions. I managed to choose the two best-sounding items I could find, and honestly, they were so bland I don't even remember what they were. The setup and decor were basic. This spot could be a fun hangout, but it would take a better menu and staff who actually seem to care. It feels like just another restaurant that's lost sight of creating an actual experience for guests. The lack of vibe is obvious--if you don't want customers, just say so. I'm giving 2 stars out of respect for the fact that people have to work for a living.

I had this place bookmarked for a while. Finally came for my birthday dinner. It was a rainy…read moreevening and I was hoping there'd be umbrella sleeves offered. I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.
