I swear every time I order the chips and guac I get less and less guac which I ridiculous because I still get an insane amount of chips that I end up having so much left over after the guac is done. As a longtime resident of the neighborhood, I finally decided to give Con Sabor A Mexico a shot (am still bitter about the loss of Jimmy Oro). At any rate, several places have tried to set up shop, in its place, and... It's safe to say that Con Sabor A Mexico continues Manhattan's fine tradition of mediocre Mexican food (when compared to other boroughs). Which means it has a chance of hanging in there, and possibly flouring, given that neighborhood is now filled with transplants whose only previous encounter with a burrito not served at Taco Bell is Chili's at best. But my God, the service is TERRIBLE; the place has about 5 individuals behind the counter who simply yell at each other, critiquing each other's method of handing food. And given how all the other reviews from millennials, upset over with their Seamless orders, unless Con Sabor A Mexico gets serious about fixing either the dining or delivery experience, the ghost of Jimmy Oro will drive out yet another mediocre restaurant. read more

The wait was veryyyyy long. It seems like the owner is the one running the show; she's the only staff. I even think she's the one who's cooking the food. I came here with my mother on a Sunday night for dinner. We regret is so much. I appreciate the owner trying to hurry but the food took too long + it was cold and presentation wise it did not look appealing. She was very sweet though. They need to hire more people and they also need to be update their presentation. Not sure why people are rating this restaurant a 5 stars when the soup tasted like straight up meat, and the tacos had no flavor plus they were cold and barely had any meat. Plus you get charged an extra $3.00 for any sides, in my case I ordered it with "pica de Gallo" As you can see in the photo the chicken does not look cooked at all. Wow ! Was the First word that came to mind when I first bite into my Taco de Barbacoa. It was very flavorful , tender , and crispy no salt needed ! The salsas they give you to add were amazing not to spicy and the green one has Avocado in it so good ! I love sour cream so that was a plus. I decided to order a skirt steak instead. The woman lied to me and put the wrong cut of meat on the plate saying it was skirt steak. I confronted the waitress and she admitted they gave me the wrong order and would charge 20 instead of 25. Why should I pay anything for a wrong order? I've only done delivery but they are quick and delicious with generous portions. Glad they are around during COVID!

I went there for lunch. It was not busy. Two women comprised the friendly waitstaff. I ordered tortilla soup. (I would post a picture, but it looked just like the picture posted by Laura L.) It came in a tasty thick tomato broth, with lots of tortilla strips, generous amounts of two kinds of white cheese, sliced avocado, and cilantro on top, plus yellow rice on the side. No other vegetables, no sour cream or crema on top. Good and filling, but nothing subtle about it. I didn't finish the mass of soggy tortilla chips left in the bottom of the bowl. read more

My favorite Mexican place in the neighborhood. It's that perfect kind of place where it's quirky enough (slow service, somewhat odd decor, not really catering to gringos, not social-media-savvy) where it's not likely to blow up and get popular, but the food is great and inexpensive, and everything is personal and homey. But I'm writing this review so that a *few* more people know about it and it doesn't fold -- I would be devastated if it did. Good ingredients, everything tastes homemade and fresh, salsas are bursting with flavor. With certain dishes you get a set of salsas and sour cream, which is tasty. Chips are baked and are great. Prices are blissfully low for new restaurants in the hood. Rarely very busy or noisy, open all the time. Great place to have a relaxed meal with a friend and have a conversation, while folks from the neighborhood drop by for the same. It doesn't surprise me that a few folks had disappointing delivery experiences -- it feels like they've really built around the restaurant itself, and haven't figured out that delivery is a more efficient way of maximizing profit, or how to optimize getting food out the door to you as fast as possible. Thank goodness -- nice to eat in a restaurant that has some heart and love. read more

Randomly walked into the restaurant after a long bike ride from Midtown to Inwood. Did not expect the food and service to be this good!! Amazing vegetarian burrito(so fresh!) and one of the best margaritas ever- which was served in clay tall glasses to keep it cool and keep the authentic vibe ! Enjoyed the guacomole as well! All in all - great service by the waitress and amazing food all at half the price of any midtown place ! Surprised it has such few and low ratings!! Stopped by here on a date the other day. There were only 2 other tables that already had food when we walked in. No one else came in while we were there. There were 2 servers. It was around 7pm or so on a Thursday. We ordered drinks: a beer with some tequila and a margarita, guacamole and 2 main dishes. The super veggie burrito and a steak dish. After 10 minutes of waiting, we asked for our drinks. When they brought them, they forgot the tequila. Then they brought out some chips and salsa. Great, but where was the guac we ordered? A few minutes later, it came out. It was tasty. We asked them to just bring the food whenever it was ready cuz we were hungry. Even if only one dish was ready. We finished the guac and our drinks then asked if the food was almost ready. We were assured it would be right out. At this point we have already been there for nearly 40 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes, still no food. They again told us it would be out soon, but we just couldn't wait any longer. So we asked for the check. While he paid for the drinks and guac, I ordered pizza from Uptown Garrison--which was ready by the time we walked the 3 blocks there. I know some reviews said the food was good, but I never got the chance to try it. They've been open for about 6 months and they can't get 2 meals ready in less than an hour? Not worth it. read more

I wasn't going to write a review. But yesterday my friend ordered a delivery from them that came with soggy chips and half a spoon of guacamole. And I told her how couple of months ago we stopped there for dinner and experience was not the best. The place was totally empty. We were the only table. Our waitress didn't speak or understand English very well, which cosed a bit of confusion. Our food took forever to arrive (and I repeat we were the only customers). But when it finally came I understood why it took so long - the chef was overcooking and overdrying everything. My burrito was very chewy. Even cheese was dry. French fries were brown. Guacamole was so-so but the container with chips had some water on the bottom. Mexican soda was delicious but I could have bought it at any supermarket. Definitely won't be back. read more

This was the third time I ordered food from Con Sabor a Mexico and once again there was a problem with the food. I ordered the Fajita de la Casa which was horrible. I don't know what type of steak was used but it was not flank or shirt steak. Had I known this I would not have ordered the Fajitas. I asked for no pepper or onion be mixed with the steak, which they then substitute with broccoli. I did not ask for a substitution and hate broccoli more than pepper and onions. I also ask for the steak to be prepared medium rare and was cooked medium well. The rice was white rice and not Mexican rice. The order comes with pico de gallo and flour tortillas which I did not get. I was served corn tortillas instead. It's just not worth the aggravation any more nor the money spent. read more

Kind of humble but a very nice room, cloth napkins and nice utensils, a few sidewalk tables, great sauces, authentic recipes, limited beer selection, and quite modest lunch and dinner prices. Just down the hill from 181St A train. I'll be going back! :) read more
