Sinaloan Sa'Tacos and its next-door-neighbor / sister restaurant, Italian Il Sole, are in many ways quintessential NYC mashups. You find elements of each cuisine creeping into the other restaurant's menu -- and plenty of other influences, too -- to mostly enjoyable effect. Example: Birria ramen. This dish is brilliant in concept, the logic of rich birria broth with noodles unassailable. Alas, this version was just so-so in execution. We liked the bit of shredded beef birria in the dish, but despite the authentic birria-orange film, the all-important broth had been thinned down and cut with bullion powder / cubes. Noodles were also reminiscent of the kind you'd find in a dried block at the grocery store, sold with a packet of seasoning powder. Mussels fra diavolo were made with small to medium sized mussels cooked in a lovely, rich, spicy tomato sauce, and reasonably fresh. This dish was on Il Sole's menu, but I think it would've been just as much at home on Sa'Taco' with its spicing (no basil that I could detect, a fair amount of oregano and chili / paprika, garlic, lots of parsley). I really enjoyed the mussels, but if one were to nitpick, it would've been nice to (1) receive utensils to eat with, w/o having to ask for them; (2) have a plate or other receptacle for shells; and (3) have some good, crusty bread for sopping up the lovely sauce. The airy, flimsy (Portuguese?) bread served alongside didn't quite do the trick. The Pardner ordered and enjoyed his set of three chorizo tacos. They came on small, 3" shells, without accoutrements and were not satisfying as a meal. He was left eyeballing the birria ramen hungrily until it was bequeathed to him. A side of spinach, ordered for vegetable matter, was just alright. We are ridiculously enthusiastic about silky, well-prepared spinach. The version here was fine, pleasantly garlicky, but tougher and more astringent / tannic than we prefer. What we didn't like quite as well: We discovered after the fact that we were not offered a brunch menu, though we were well within hours and would've enjoyed many items off of that menu. Also, the "sin tax" was high. Drinks were quite expensive for their average to below-average quality. You'll receive separate checks for food ordered from each menu, but the outdoor dining space is shared, as are servers. We once knew this neighborhood like the back of our hands. We plan to again given how much our littles all like Inwood Hill Park and given my memories of perfect Dominican and Venezuelan food in these parts. Giving this place two stars, solely for the horchatas which were delicious. The service and ambiance is decent, but the taste of the food was just...not good. We got the mini tacos, which were a starter, then came the nachos, then the quesadillas. Unfortunately, every dish that came out disappointed us. The flavor of the birria, cochinita, tinga were all underwhelming and frankly just tasted strange at some points. And on top of our disappointing meal, my boyfriend had to go to the bank, as they don't take apple pay, and we did not have our wallets on us (our mistake). Prices were very high for the amount of food and lack of flavor. They also added 18% gratuity, which is funny because our server that was supposed to serve us never even came back to our table after she messed up our drink order, we just got our food and drinks brought out to us by the host. Never coming back here again. Save your money and go to one of the many amazing Mexican food trucks in the area. Overall, I would have been content had I just stopped after the horchatas. read more

Given COVID-19 all the restaurants on the block have covered outdoor seating in front and none of them say "Sa'Taco". We had to call to confirm the place actually existed. Once we got in, none of the restaurants said "Sa'taco" and they said you could order from either of the two restaurants, so I'm not fully convinced Sa'Taco is a place anymore. Anyway the service is extremely slow. It was empty but yet food took almost 30 minutes to come out and people were walking around with their checks looking for a server to make payments. One server in particular was ignoring customers and walking away while they were talking to him. We literally waited 30 minutes for the bill and then waited another 20 minutes to get everything taken care of. The food was good and that was nice. The tacos were a good size. The $12-$16 drinks could have been better. The margaritas were very sweet. Barria and the fish tacos were great. I think I'd place an order to go but I wouldn't come back to dine-in. read more

This was borderline offensive. First of all, the food is not good. The flautas were somehow both dry and soggy, but at least they were in fact flautas. The birria torta, on the other hand, is just a steak sandwich. The portions were small, the food didn't taste bad necessarily but it definitely didn't taste good. Also WARNING the menu on their website is "outdated" and all items are more expensive if you order in person or by phone. When I pointed out the price difference from the menu online and the bill, I was told "we don't control the promotions Uber offers." When I responded that it was their website, I received a shrug and "yeah we'll update it." read more

I chose Sa'tacos for lunch based on its proximity to where I happened to be that day. I ordered online via an app and picked it up at the restaurant. Based on their most ordered dishes, I chose the birria quesadilla; they offer a birria taco which didn't seem like enough of a meal by itself, so the quesadilla seemed the better choice. I'm not knowledgeable on Mexican food, so take that as you will. That being said, I think the birria was made with beef (but according to a quick search, it's normally made with goat?). They graciously cut the quesadilla into rectangles for easy consumption. The meat was juicy and fell apart in the mouth with a ratio of fatty bits to protein that leans towards fat. The shell of the quesadilla was slightly orange from the oil that coated it, and appeared lightly fried. The white cheese had a slight tang. Having just biked 15 miles, this greasy, meaty, cheesy quesadilla really hit the spot, but consider that it could be too greasy if you're looking for a light meal. On the side of the quesadilla were small containers of tomato salsa, and a dark reddish brown sauce, which had a sour taste that paired nicely with the meal. Quite possibly the best enchiladas verdes I've had north of Mexico. The tomatillo salsa verse was super fresh and tangy with some heat. The elotes were excellent tambien. Owner Sandra made us feel very welcome. We'll be back for Thursday Jazz nights. read more

They have indoor and outdoor seating. We decided to sit outside. Service was fast and the staff was kind and attentive. I got the birria tacos and my partner the chicken flautas. I ordered from Postmates and got the fish shrimp and Cochinita estilo tacos for my main dish. All the tacos were delicious no complaints. I also got the Esquite corn for an appetizer. It's basically Mexican corn but without the actual cob. It was really good but I think a bit too much cheese for me. Lastly I ordered the funnel fries not sure what to expect I just knew I wanted something sweet. They were very tasty basically funnel cake fries and you can dip in chocolate or caramel. It also comes with a side of ice cream. They also made my food very quickly. Taking away a star because they forgot to include my drink with my order. read more

I stumbled upon this place and it was delicious and the service was impeccable. I had al pastor and Baja fish tacos and they were so well made. I appreciate that I could douse as much hot sauce as I like on them. I was seated immediately and the waiter checked on me to ask if I was feeling chilly and even brought a heat lamp over. Would definitely come again. Glad I didn't read the other bad reviews until after I ate! read more

This was the worst food experience I have had. If I could give negative stars I would. It took 2 and a half hours to receive my food and when it did finally come it was cold. I called multiple times to find out where my order was and no one answered after my order was taken. I ordered 4 Birria tacos and 1 shrimp taco. I was told by the employee I placed my order with that the Birria tacos come with the Birria dipping sauce that I requested. I also requested the shrimp taco and 2 of the Birria tacos to be made with flour tortillas and they all came with corn tortillas. The shrimp came fried for some reason but not even crispy it tasted disgusting and the point of the Birria tacos is the sauce and it came dry with no sauce. I don't suggest you waste your money on this place read more
