I called Reed Wright based on the glowing reviews here on Yelp. The first time I called the very unfriendly woman first asked if I was a returning customer. When I said no, she asked my location (2.9 miles from their location). She then told me it would be at least 3 days and paused clearly waiting for me to say I would look elsewhere. When I said I'd be happy to wait, she paused and told me it would be at least a week. It was clear she wasn't interested in my business. Two months later, I called again. Same woman. Same game except this time after I told her I'd be willing to wait 3 days, she asked me what type of furnace I had then told me that they weren't a dealer and maybe I should find someone who was. Quick response and talented service. We woke up to find our more than 40 year old natural gas furnace was not firing. A call to Reed Wright got a service rep out here before noon. I'm a combustion engineer so I could appreciate just what he was doing. He carefully worked his way through the possible problems, finally identifying a clogged nozzle that was preventing gas flow. Even though we've had the unit inspected every two years, this is not something that anyone ever takes completely apart to clean. He knew just what to do and how to do it. He did identify another part that was starting to fail and will order a replacement that we can put in later. We'll be warm now. However - when we called them to help replace our broken water heater, we got an outragous price quote. When we asked if we could purchase our own water heater and have them install it for us, they flat out refused the job and refered us to another company. I spent two and a half hours on the phone the other morning after my on-demand hot water heater crapped out. The guy who installed it wouldn't work on it, and neither would 7 other plumbing companies the manufacturer recommended. One place told me they could have someone out in 11 days, after two and a half hours that was my best option until I called the last place on my list. They said they couldn't help me, but they told me to call Reed Wright. I'm really glad that I did. They sent one of their guys out the next day, and he not only got my hot water heater running again, but he also fixed some stuff the last plumber had left broken. I'm very happy with my service. This seems a company that's large enough to get to your repair quickly, but not so big that the quality suffers. We discovered that our furnace was on the blink on the first chilly day - along with many people! Reed Wright was able to schedule us within a few days despite the rush of calls. I would give 6 stars if I could. I was told by another company that I would need a new boiler, and they suggested a tankless one to do both my space heating and my water (turns out, that is not recommended given our water needs). Bryan took time out of his busy day to explain to me the cons and told me that my problem might not even be my boiler, and he ended up being right. Trevor and Eric did a fantastic job replacing my tank, and left the spot better than what it was before. I think they represent honest, quality work and I wouldn't call anyone else. I called when my furnace stopped lighting. The response was quite quick, and less than half the estimated cost of Ballard Gas. The fellow who came out knew what he was doing and called his superior to make sure he was interpreting his findings and check for parts before he went to retrieve them. He also gave me some useful tips for furnace maintenance and installing an electronic thermostat. I'd definitely use them again. read more

Amazing!! My rental property lost heat, I thought it was the igniter in my furnace, but was not sure. My engineer husband poked around, but couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong. We called Reed Wright and they were able to come out that afternoon. Within 20 minutes Dave was able to figure out and fix the problem, which was the igniter. I've had the misfortune of talking to Elaine at Reed Wright 4 times in the last year. All 4 times she has been rude and clearly didn't want to service our needs. Last year we had Reed Wright out to service our Radiant Heat system, 2 weeks (2nd call w/Elaine) later our heat stopped working again. I was told by Elaine if it was the same issue it would be covered by the "Warranty", they did the same/identical service (bled air from the water lines) and our heat started back up again. 2 weeks later we received a bill for $300+ for the 2nd/Warranty service. I called and once again (3rd time) Elaine answered, she was rude denied telling me if same issue Warranty would cover it and I had to pay for their time. At the bottom of the bill it stated past due if not paid by early February, so I paid it 5 days prior to the date it would be late. 45 days later we had the same issue with our heating system and called another company who bled the system again and it solved the issue for last year's cold season. Today I called because our heating system is once again having issues and I had kind of forgotten about how rude Elaine is. I got her again on this 4th call to Reed Wright, she told me I paid late last time so they can't bill us and my tenants will have to pay at time of service. I asked her to bill me as I would prefer my tenants not be inconvenienced by having to pay and get reimbursed. She told me she will have to talk to ther boss to see if he will allow if before she will even make me an appointment. I asked when somone can come out and was told today if I want to pay double. I told her no I don't want to pay double, so can we have someone come out tomorrow. She advised she can't say. She gave me the feeling anyone who is desperate and willing to pay double would get services prior to someone who called first. I found another company who specializes in my type of heating system to come out within one hour, no double hourly rate for quick response. read more

We've been with Reed Wright for almost 10 years. They advised us when we were removing our oil octopus from the basement and brought in a new gas line. Tim was really helpful and patient. I appreciated that he was a straight shooter. I compared them against 4 other bids. All about the same amount. The difference was that the percentage of equipment was higher than any other bid. The Triangle Tube boiler has not failed us and we love the extra large water heater. Don't get fooled by other bids - make sure you're clear on what the actual boiler is. You want the higher quality. Appreciate Elaine "reminding" me every year to service the boiler...it's like another mom. Thanks for saving me this past week in getting the basement pipes raised for the contractors!! They did an awesome job fixing up a malfunctioning furnace. They drove out after a full night of snow and worked diligently the entire time they were here. Very upfront with likely how much it will cost which was so refreshing, as there weren't a bunch of hidden costs. Also, when I had a water heater issue, they talked me through what the issue might be and helped me fix it for free before trying to send someone out here. I have used them twice at two different houses in Queen Anne to service or repair furnaces and each time they were a royal pain in the #@$@! to deal with. Read the low reviews. I emailed them on a Sunday because we had a weird noise coming from our furnace. They emailed back (on a sunday!) and said that it was not urgent, and offered to come monday so I wouldn't have to pay the weekend fee. They came out monday morn and fixed everything quite quickly. They were a tad pricey (labor at $95/hr), but well worth it. The speed, efficiency, and quality of work seemed excellent. read more

Trustworthy, highly skilled/specialized, dependable, professional - words to describe Reed Wright. I called them after experiencing very poor service with a different company when our boiler went out for unknown reason. This was during peak winter season and they were very busy, but they still were responsive and organized. They sent over their specialist for our particular boiler brand and he immediately knew what to do (for what took the previous servicer at least 2 hours with no success). I knew right away that this company had skilled staff with years of experience - I later had them come out again to do routine maintenance + fix some valves on our radiant heating that the previous servicer broke and everything was to my expectation including price. We had a hot water boiler replaced by Reed Wright. The new product "Triangle Tube" was installed in one day, which meant we did not have to freeze on a cold Seattle day. The whole process with Reed Wright was POSITIVE. We have used their services for many years. On a routine service, we were told that we had a leak in our furnace, so we knew a new one was going to be necessary. From the management team to the workmen, all were wonderful. They were prompt, respectful of our old house, and very efficient! I recommend Reed Wright if you have a routine heat need or a major one like ours. read more

Reed Wright is a great example of what a small business can excel at where larger companies fail. After having problems with my furnace we requested a service call from the company that installed our furnace to perform regular maintenance and diagnose the issues. We waited a month for the visit and were told that there were many things failing and we should just replace the furnace and inline water heater for about $22,000. Or we could try and repair for about $2500. I elected to repair it and asked them to schedule the repairs. After about 2 weeks I called to see what was up, they had not ordered the parts yet, after another 2 weeks I called and they could not tell me when they would come but would call me back (never did), after another 2 weeks etc etc. After 2.5 months I cancelled the order. So I called Reed Wright and Bryan came out, fixed the furnace with parts from his truck, ordered the one part he didn't have and said we should get many years more out of our furnace. The next week the parts came in and he finished the job. Total cost was half the expense quoted from the other company. Quick, clean and efficient and most of all with your best interest at heart. read more

This firm came highly recommended from my real-estate agent. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. I have a German made boiler that provides heat to 6 units and it is imperative that it works this time of year. The technician that that came out to check it out wasted no time pinpointing the problem. He discovered that the main circuit board where the wires connected to it was the root of the problem. He was then able to replace it and while on site I had him perform a complete service of the boiler. The great news is that all the tenants are now able to have heat again and enjoy the holidays. read more

Very disappointed in Reed Wright this go round. Have used them over the years and have been pleased. Rep came to dx problem with a heat pump unit. Had to come 3 times and didn't seem familiar with this type of heating/cooling unit. Dx finally made after he talked with Tim-this was a month ago. I've called and talked with both Elaine and Tim who said they would get back to me-that was almost 2 weeks ago and no follow-up contact yet. I've been working with Reed Wright for a couple years now for my business, and they are great! My most recent experience with them was exceptionally great... We moved store locations almost two years ago and had our contractor add an A/C and heating unit (he didn't use Reed Wright) when we did our build-out since the previous business only had one unit (both units are located on the roof). We made a mental note to get it checked yearly, but time has a way of flying by, and we just recently realized we not only hadn't done a maintenance check, but also hadn't changed our filters!! We called Reed Wright, and they were able to send someone within a day or two to do the maintenance check. He came as scheduled, and immediately got started on the units. Moments later he came back and told us whoever installed our other unit never installed a filter, and the other unit didn't have one either and because of that, our ducts were really, really dirty. He explained the situation to us, referred Aurora-Edmonds Furnace Cleaning (they were great), and he built us filters to use! Reliable and professional company who knows what they're doing. Our water heater tank leaked and we needed a new one installed ASAP as we didn't have any hot water. I called Reed Wright and Bryan came by that same day to look at the problem. We have a large water heater tank (75 gallons) and it hooks up to in-floor heating as well as a wall vent. I was given a quote in the afternoon (pricing was market price) and the next morning these guys were at our house at the promised time with a new tank. It was a complex installation with the vent having to be sized and all these in-floor heating pumps attached. Not to mention the tank was huge and they had to get it to our basement and also haul the old rusty one out. A lot of sweaty work by 2 guys for hours. By the afternoon we had hot water again and everything was running smoothly. The installation looked great, done by professionals. Easy-peasy for me. I would highly recommend Reed Wright for your heating and electric needs. They are a small local company and have been around for a long time. read more

This review is all about customer service. My husband called them to have someone come out and do basic service on our furnace. The woman he spoke to on the phone was extremely rude. She told him she would not be able to book him an appointment that they are trying to help people that need heat, and services should be done in the summer! She said she would put him on a list and if someone is free after they are done with their work they will call to come over. Seriously you won't just schedule an appointment to service a furnace unless it's the summer. That makes no sense. Obviously they aren't so busy she couldn't have just scheduled something for us seeing as they have called us everyday to try and pop by to look at our furnace, but we aren't taking their calls. We will do business with someone else. Sucks cause your like 2 blocks from our house, but at the end of the day we're not wasting our time or money for rude customer service. I finally made the right choice with Reed Wright! This past week our furnace stopped working in the middle of the night. I had a small one man heating company come out and diagnose the furnace. He called me and said it was a simple fix and replaced a limit switch. OK fine...I thought....the heat seemed to be working fine until once again in the middle of the night on the next night our heat went out again. The same contractor came back out and said it was a bad switch and replaced it once again with a genuine part. Well guess what? Our furnace shut down again in the middle of the night. After calling him back for the third time he came out and diagnosed the problem again and now said that he called the manufacturer and that it was the primary heat ex-changer. Well, he was partially correct. It was the ex-changer but it was the secondary heat ex-changer. He estimated $1,200 in labor and wouldn't negotiate at all. I decided to further investigate and called PSE to come out and assess the situation. They immediately said it was the secondary heat ex-changer and shut down the furnace due to the danger of running the furnace. Researching further, Reed Wright came highly recommended. I called Reed Wright over the weekend and left a message. They immediately called me Monday morning. I spoke with a wonderful woman named Elaine. Elaine was very helpful. I gave her the make and model and serial number and she immediately told me what the approximate cost would be. A technician by the name of Dave did our work. He was friendly, straight forward and very professional. Reed Wright was able to get all the parts under warranty plus a $320 labor credit. To put it simply, Reed Wright saved us $100's. I own rental properties and also sell residential real estate for a living. From now on I will always use Reed Wright for all of our services and will highly recommend them to all of my friends, customers and clients. WAY TO GO REED WRIGHT AND THANK YOU!!! read more

Called them on Monday because my boiler blower had "disassembled" itself. I talked to Tim on the phone who asked about the boiler. I told him the error code and the sound it was making and he said "Oh yeah, it's blown itself apart. I think we have that in stock." And they did. And by 11 am I had hot water and heat again. Brian came out, was quick and professional. It was expensive (the blower itself was $400!) but less than I thought. Another company (Greenw---) said they could come out in 10 days! No sense of the ridiculousness of it either. read more
