A simple tea shop that opened up in the corner of a small plaza next to Kohl's. (They really should do something about the tree blocking their store/signage from the parking lot.) The interior is cute and bright with about three tables inside that fit about 2-3 people. The staff was very nice and hard at work. The menu had a good selection but I went with the French Daisy and classic Redstraw milk tea. Redstraw milk tea had a very strong tea taste which is good but honestly, I felt only a splash of the milk and sugar. And at 100 sweetness, it was not very sweet. Which is good if you're tired of the syrupy and sickening sweet milk teas with no tea that give you diabetes. This drink comes with honey boba which tasted find but were a bit undercooked, so very chewy. Could have used a few more seconds in hot water. The French Daisy also had an incredibly strong tea presence but was lightly flavored with lemony notes. Also barely sweet at 100% but it was very refreshing and reminds of Main Squeeze's peach butterfly style for the look. They also have almond and soy milk alternatives at no cost! Such an underrated tea shop! There are a lot of boba places in Irvine, but I can confidently say this place would be in my top 5 on my first visit. Unlike other places I have been to, you can make your own custom drink. They advertise their drinks being made with real milk rather than powdered milk and you can taste the difference. Their matcha is great, you can taste the quality. It's not overly sweet at 100% sweetness even with the added sweet foam. If you aren't a big fan of flowery drinks because they resemble the taste of soap, then the Rose Garden is perfect. The rose and lychee aren't overpowering at all and balance each other well with a jasmine tea base. The service wasn't anything special; My friend and I weren't welcomed in. Not that it's a big deal or anything but first impressions do matter. However, the atmosphere was very homey with many plants decorating the space. Most of their drinks come in 24 oz ( large) but they also have 16 oz available as well. I think it's one of the more affordable boba places in Irvine. They need to add more sea salt cream so the drink will be creamier. Wasn't the best place for milk tea in my opinion. I'm always in search of boba/tea spots that brew their own tea and use real cane sugar and fruit instead of syrups and powder. That's what drew me to Redstraw. It seemed like their specialty teas were their forte so I tried the Rose Garden with lychee jelly. I was told that the drink is already made at 25% sweetness level, which is what I normally prefer so I stuck with it. I don't especially like anything rose, but there were stronger hints of lychee and jasmine green tea than rose, so I enjoyed it a lot. The lychee jelly was the perfect add-on complement. It wasn't overly sweet at 25%, but I think I could have even done 10% and preferred it. The drinks do take some time to make but it's because they brew your tea fresh after you order it. I don't mind the wait and appreciate that. It was hard to decide what to try first, so that means I will be coming back. Redstraw is now one of my favorite places to get fruit teas or hot drinks. Since it's getting a bit colder (kind of), I decided to get a hot drink. I ordered the New Zealand Sunny Slopes in hot and it was so delicious. I honestly loved this drink and it's definitely on my top drink list from Redstraw. The drink was flavorful, fruity, and also high in Vitamin C! The drink does take about 8 minutes to make because they brew it fresh. Another drink that is now on my top list for iced drinks is Honest Guy. Honest Guy is a great fruity drink as well and very refreshing that's perfect for hot days. Everyone was really nice and helpful. They all wore masks and gloves. There were times when I noticed people using the used by accident because it's more noticeable (it's in a jar). The sanitized stylus is on a rectangular plate in front of the cash register (which is less noticeable). But when signing, just make sure you can read the sign to differentiate them. Regardless, I always use hand sanitizer even if the stylus is 'sanitized' just as a caution. But it's something for those to be aware of. When I first walked in I was hit with the smell of cleaning supplies, but to me that just shows how often they wipe down surfaces and clean the entire store, making their customers feel safer. So, the tea that I got here was absolutely delicious. I've never been here before. It was the first time that I've ever come in. I got the Japanese cherry green, hot tea and it was really good. The only thing that I would say that was kind of a downer is the girl that was working the counter looked noticeably angry, irritated, and really grumpy and it kind of was a bummer. Not once and interacting with any customers, or with us did she even remotely smile or seem to even know that it was part of your job to be pleasant with people and to me that was kind of a big "fuck you" to me as a customer. The area that they have designated for pick up is also a little confusing because they don't call out the order as loud as it should be so you're left wondering when they bring stuff up what's yours and I don't think that really helps anybody, them or the customers . The interior was nice with lots of plants, and it looked moderately clean, although our table was dirty when we sat down at it, and had a residue from the previous customers that hadn't been wiped down . We came here, just for fun while waiting for our table at the restaurant next door. The tea selection and qualities were excellent, but the atmosphere, and the general vibe towards the customers seem to say nonverbally that they really didn't want you there, so I don't see myself coming back, even though I really enjoyed my drink. If that's a different experience than the owners, or the managers would've liked me to have had, maybe you can talk to the people that are doing your drinks and follow up and I'd be happy to give it another shot. Everybody has a bad day and deserves a second chance, but for me, I probably wouldn't come back unless I could be assured that things were cleaner, and that the people making the drinks are a lot more cheerful and happy to see me there as a customer. read more
