Food was wonderful! For appetizers we had the, clam chowder (thick, creamy, nice amount of clam), raw oysters (fresh, tasty, although had to ask for Tabasco and malt vinegar), and crab cakes (minimally seasoned but nice balance of bread crumb mixture to crab). For mains my guests had the fried sampler platter, broiled and cajuned shrimp and scallops, and I had the prime rib added scallops at $3 each. My prime rib was tasty and substantial but the temperature was just warm, not hot, and therefore had to be sent back. Once corrected the meal was great. Scallops were small but they gave me double the amount at the same price because of the size. The sides were mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts which were seasoned well and tasted great. Sprouts were tender but not mushy. Potatoes were tasty with a good intentional lumpiness that I appreciated. Also tried the lavender lemonade mocktail which was delicious. Decided against adding the one pound of King Crab as the market price was $99 and I can get a bag of two pounds for $70. We didn't do dessert but will next time were in the area because the slices of chocolate cake we saw were HUGE and the varieties looked scrumptious. Service was pleasant although there was a long block of time after we received our food where we were looking for the waitress so we could pay. The busser ended up pitching in. Party of two went there based on the reputation server was pleasant but not well trained, the rest of the staff were helpful. Noted for seafood we ordered the mixed seafood platter , it was horrible, greasy, some items overcooked, the cold shrimp was served in the middle of the meal. Disappointing Experience We chose Reds because it came highly recommended, so unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The drink I ordered was not enjoyable and tasted like an inexpensive wine. I then ordered my steak well done, but when it arrived, it was completely raw inside. Our waitress, Sophia, was very kind and professional, and she was genuinely surprised when my husband showed her the steak. The restaurant offered to prepare another one, but by that point I was too uncomfortable to have another steak and chose a burger and fries instead. Unfortunately, by the time my food arrived, my husband and son had already finished their meals. What was supposed to be a nice dinner ended with me taking my food home. I honestly wish I had taken a picture of the steak because it was shocking to see how undercooked it was. I do want to acknowledge that Sophia handled the situation professionally and was very pleasant throughout the experience. However, the overall meal and experience were not what we expected from a restaurant that had been so highly recommended. Red's brunch buffet is Phenomenal! My husband and I had the pleasure of having Easter Brunch at Red's. We dined at the 12:30 sitting. Red's has been a restaurant for over 75 years! The dining rooms are spacious. And the tables' seating is comfortable. They are able to accommodate small and larger parties. The offerings at Easter Brunch are exceptional: Leg of lamb with mint jelly, baked ham with raisin sauce, scalloped potatoes, tossed, salad, coleslaw, roasted cauliflower, omelettes, bacon, sausage, waffles with berry compote and that is just some of the items--see the menu pic provided. Am a little surprised at the negative reviews about the food. Everything we got was delicious. It's an old school feel inside, but was clean and comfortable. However, the reason for the low review was the service. Server was nice, but we were left with empty water glasses multiple times, we were never asked if we wanted another drink, and worst of all was that we watched a table of 4 who was sat at least 10-15 minutes after us get served well before us. It's down to two of us for my last hunting night dinner until next year. This is my third weekend coming to new Baltimore and the Coxsaciie area. One there was 14 of us our first night here Jason was our main server. So for my last night dinner, we got Jason again. This time I started out with Johnny Walker, red and soda. Oh, that really put me in the mood. I did have another Johnny Walker. me and my friend both ordered the New England clam chowder. It's a must when you come here. Found this restaurant on yelp and decided to stop in on our why down to Long Island for Thanksgiving. They are close to the Thruway exit 21B. 3.5 to 4 stars The place is quite large with lots of seating area and off shoot areas for small groups. The service was very good. The food was good - Soup special Turkey asparagus was good but was a bit salty for my taste. Spouse had their MAINE LOBSTER ROLL - Their most popular sandwich! Chilled Maine lobster meat tossed with diced fresh cucumber, chopped scallion, and tarragon mayonnaise. Served on a brioche roll. 26.99. It was good but would get something else. For me - NASHVILLE HOT FISH SANDWICH Florida grouper double dredged in old bay seasoned flour then deep fried and dipped in our secret hot sauce. Served on a brioche bun with sliced avocado, sweet pickles and parmesan peppercorn dressing. 14.99. This was a good meal. Onion Rings were excellent. but cost extra $1.99. I was so looking forward to eating at this seafood restaurant. My favorite items were the warm freshly baked dinner roll, raw oysters on the half shell, the blackberry mule cocktail special, the fries and onion rings. The customers in general seemed to enjoy the rolls. The man at the table across from us could be overheard exclaiming, "I wish I could have more bread." But he didn't ask for seconds and the server didn't offer to bring any. Our server, Sophia, was great. She was friendly and helpful. The actual meal took a while to arrive but Reds was very busy with a large women's party in the rear building. Perhaps it was a shower or bachelorettes gathering. The meals were a disappointment. My husband ordered an oyster po' boy. He said the sandwich was too small. Actually, since I make oyster po' boys at home, I think the problem was not enough oysters. When I make it at home, I use at least 9 large oysters. I think Reds po' boy had only 4. It was stingy. Almost all bread. The same goes for my lobster roll. It wasn't actually a roll since the lobster salad was served on a brioche bun. I didn't expect the bun. I use at least one lobster tail when I make a lobster roll. At Reds, I found thin slivers of lobster. There wasn't much filling. They used so little lobster and so little seasoning that there wasn't any flavor. I also don't like sweetened cole slaw so I had to skip it. It's a pretty restaurant with a mid-century decor. On a hot day, the air-conditioning worked great, but I didn't love the meal enough to want to return anytime soon. Perhaps if we come back, I should order a dinner entree. A grilled or fried salmon fillet might be an idea. Then I can see what I'm actually eating. The sandwiches came up short. read more

It's a bit of a drive, but not too bad if you take the thruway. The good news is that Red's is again serving Sunday Brunch (buffet). The menu for brunch is supposed to be on Facebook (so I was told) but it doesn't always appear until the Saturday before. That being said, the day we went for the buffet I can say our food was very good. There was a carving station for a beef and a ham. There is an omlet station where you can choose your favorite freshly made by the chef. In addition, you can get hot breakfast dishes and hot lunch items. Being a fish lover, I was delighted to try the baked fish. (Unfortunately I don't remember the fish, but what I do remember was that it perfectly prepared and I went back for seconds!) There are soups, breads and desserts. Did I forget something? Oooo! They also had fresh fruits and as stuffed as I was, I saw some fresh blackberries. Oh my goodness! If you see them give them a try - large, sweet, juicy berries. Also a second portion. Parking is more than adequate. Staff were most pleasant and quick on refills. Ambiance was nice being that it was a very sunny day and the rays poured through the windows. It was a nice outing and would consider it again soon. read more

I've looked at the pictures and reviews for a long time and haven't been clamoring to go here but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance inside. We were seated right away and our waitress and the bartender were pleasant and friendly. My husband and I shared a dozen oysters and wow. I've had lots of raw oysters in my days. These were fresh and large! My husband had the fried platter and was pleased but didn't love the bread crumb topping they cook onto the mashed potatoes. Odd choice. I love seafood and sushi and have never tried soft shell crab which was a special. You can get it sautéed or fried and I went for sautéed. Unfortunately I really didn't like it! Not the restaurants fault. It was a texture thing where I felt like I was chewing on a fingernail to get to the crab meat. Went to Ted's for Friday night dinner. Was very busy. Sat at bar and had some drinks while we waited for our table. It was very nice and the bartender mixed a good Bloody Mary. We ordered a Haddock dinner and a Goddess of Goat garden salad with flat iron steak. The salad was a little overdressed and too rich to finish. The flat iron steak was tender and done perfect medium. Or starters were very good. Ordered a soft shell Maryland crab , Buffalo shrimp wings (quite substantial) and the Bavarian pretzel with good mustard and beer cheese dip. Those were delish. Had sides of asparagus and spinach. Also ordered onion rings but had to cancel that. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Wil have to get them next time. The place was large and accommodated large tables. We didn't make reservation and didn't mind eating. Overall experience was good. I have to try the prime rib days and the fish fry. read more

It is a crime that it's taken us so long to visit Reds. When you walk into Reds it like slipping back into the comfort of an earlier time when eating out with the family didn't mean a loud place with television screens on every wall. Reds opened in 1944 and is the oldest restaurant in Greene County -- in a great way. The decor is rustic but refined country club. Comfy red leather chairs, wood paneled walls, and friendly, attentive service. Reds has the cool, neon lobster on it signage signaling that it is about the seafood. But the menu offers much more than that! Reds offers plenty of variety to satisfy any palate (steaks, Asian fusion, burgers, pasta, salads, pizza, sandwiches, soup, etc.). We were starving when we arrived and quickly ordered an appetizer. We got the crispy dumplings. These are pan fried homemade short rib and goat cheese dumplings topped with bacon jalapeño aioli on a soy drizzled plate. Wow! Delicate and flavorful. Comes with 4 of these delightful bites. We also shared a dozen oysters that were fresh and briny. For dinner, Hubby got the lobster stew which is the house specialty. This was like a very rich, scrumptious lobster bisque but with chunks of lobster, potato, celery and onion and served in a bread bowl. It is made to order. I ordered the stuffed steelhead trout. Canadian steelhead trout fillet stuffed with our own shellfish stuffing and topped with sauce choron (a béarnaise sauce with a twist - without the chervil and tarragon but instead with added tomato puree.) Each of these entrées were perfectly executed with refinement. Flavors full yet delicate and layered. And very rich --- there were leftovers! We noticed there was a cool looking bar that we'd love to sit at for cocktails at a future visit! read more

Our party dined at Red's last night. It was a truly regrettable experience, especially for the money. The scallops were overcooked as was the pork chop. The chicken cordon bleu was so overcooked it was difficult to cut. One of the flat iron steaks was lacking mushrooms. The Brussels sprouts were noticeably undercooked. The final insult was the burnt sugar on the creme brûlée. That was inedible and sent back. I labored as to whether or not to post this review as I have never written a negative review before. But the fact that our meals were overcooked at $400 I felt I had no choice. I hope it was just an off night in the kitchen. That said, I doubt we'll be back. read more

Reds is an iconic retro restaurant that has kept its charming decor from the late 1940's. Nicely set tables with crisp white clothes and napkins. 2.5 stars A friend saw this place on Yelp so we thought we could give it a try. Since it was for a Saturday dinner so we made reservation in advance. When we arrived there were about one third of people in the restaurant. The interior looks good and the place looks clean. We had to wait for everything, starting from our waiter coming to greet us and serving us water. Tap water was disgusting, it had very bad and fishy smell, we had to order sodas and other drinks instead. Our waiter was friendly but he didn't seem to know what he was doing. The food was terribly slow! We again had to wait for a while to get our sodas & cocktails. It took over an hour to get our appetizers and took forever to eventually got our entrees. Some of us almost feel asleep at the table. I got to say the appetizers were delicious BUT our entrees were so bad. The salmon was wayyyyyyyyyyyy overcooked and veryyyyyyy dry. I never wasted my food and this was the first time I couldn't finish and had to let it go. It was THAT BAD. They did ask how we liked the food but never apologize for slow service. I have been to Red's only a few times. Overall I find them to be just OK. This is not surprising as they are a seafood restaurant located many miles from the ocean. They are not even located in proximity to a lake or river. The best experiences were when ordering at their outdoor "Fish Fry Boat" that is open seasonally during the summer. Their fried clam roll here was decent and at a reasonable price. I recently tried their lobster roll and found it disappointing. Priced at $27 it did not live up to my expectations in size, quantity, or taste. A very small amount of lobster salad on what was described as a "brioche roll". A brioche roll can be very good but this was a small brioche-style hamburger roll that looked like it came from the local supermarket. The roll was served with fries (possibly the best part of this meal), coleslaw (OK) and a pickle. Service was good and waitstaff were pleasant and reasonably efficient. Bottom line: If you visit during the summer hit up the "boat" for one of their fried offerings. Otherwise expect fair food at a somewhat premium price. read more

I start at four stars because the place is basically a dive (see pic of maintenance deferred by about 50 years). Drop at least another star when the food is sometimes very poorly prepared. They are proud of their fish fry. Prepare to be disgusted and walk out hungry when they drop a greasy slimy inedible mess on your table. If you order the grouper dish the fish may not actually be cooked. Calamari should not resemble rubber. Jam us (a couple) in a corner behind a party of 8 with tables pushed together after refusing to let us sit in the quieter bar area because you are booked; start me off with a drink in a filthy glass, then bring back another dirty one when I complain; serve bread in a filthy metal bucket (see pic); snatch dishes off the table without asking if I am done; forget all about a veggie substitution, even after a reminder....then charge me for drinks and appetizers when l leave needing to find someplace else to eat.... I ordered the lobster and couldn't even cut it with a butter knife. I had to ask the waitress for a steak knife. You would think she would have realized that lobster should not be that tough and rubbery to need a steak knife and asked if I wanted something different but that didn't happen. We went to Reds for a quiet meal in there outdoor seating. It was a perfect night and the tables were spread far apart. The price of their mediocre sangria was $12- which was overpriced . The menu did not include shrimp scampi but, I was told the chef could make it. The shrimp was delicious, on it's own, but there was no scampi sauce- disappointing. Pulling off the road on our way up to Washington County, we happened upon Red's, an old-school seafood joint in West Coxsackie, and the last thing we expected to see on this journey. Knotty pine walls and interior décor reminded me a bit of Dill's, a place I used to go as a kid back home in Massachusetts. Only this place was surrounded by corn fields, and the stench of manure hung in the air. So Red's makes an impression, simply through its out-of-the-wayness. The N.E. clam chowder I had was delectable, less so the turkey, cheddar, and bacon "panini" -- which was far too bready to call itself a panini. But then, I read panini and I think "pressed sandwich," and I forget that's mainly a NYC thing. Wife's salmon burger was "okay," son had the bowtie pasta and meatballs, ate mostly the meatballs. All in all, the cocktail napkins and lobster claw lamp (both pictured here) were the main highlights. I blame myself. I know from experience, having grown up in a seaside town, that a place like Red's isn't really where you go for paninis or pasta. This is one of those old-timey fine glassware and tablecloth throwbacks, where you go for a cuppa chowda, fried seafood, and a boilermaker. The fact that we were in the midst of a long drive, and the prices forced my hand: I went with the convenient item off the lunch menu, and shame on me for that. If I come back, which may not be for a while, I'm getting the scallop plate -- and I'm almost 100% certain my rating will rise a star. read more

Sad to say it was less than impressive. It has been years since the last time I visited Reds. It didn't even come close to living up to what I had had in the past. First of all, bland fake/instant mashed potatoes??? Are you kidding me? Absolutely no flavor or value added to the meal. The portions were small, over priced and low quality. Everything came across as bland, artificial and unimpressive. Unfortunately the prices were for high quality food, and it did not live up to expectations. Our first time at Red's! We were greeted by the manager, Melissa, who is lovely and gave us a mini tour of the place. Very clean, you can tell the owners really care, everything is polished, fresh and updated inside. Attention to detail regarding covid mandates was exemplary and still felt welcoming and comfortable. Social distancing, masks, sanitizer, very clean place. Loved the menu and had a hard time choosing. We started with the crispy dumplings stuff with short rib & goat cheese. Very small appetizer but tasty. Creamy blue cheese dressing was the real deal and full of chunks of cheese. Try the side of asparagus fries! We ordered the stuffed flat iron dinner & the detox ramen bowl. Our server Courtney was friendly, knowledgeable and had a perfect personality for customer service. She checked in with us often and my bf's beer was never low. I would request her next time!
