Am a little surprised at the negative reviews about the food. Everything we got was delicious. It's an old school feel inside, but was clean and comfortable. However, the reason for the low review was the service. Server was nice, but we were left with empty water glasses multiple times, we were never asked if we wanted another drink, and worst of all was that we watched a table of 4 who was sat at least 10-15 minutes after us get served well before us. I would only come back if I wasn't hungry and had all the time in the world to wait.

It's down to two of us for my last hunting night dinner until next year. This is my third weekend coming to new Baltimore and the Coxsaciie area. One there was 14 of us our first night here Jason was our main server. So for my last night dinner, we got Jason again. This time I started out with Johnny Walker, red and soda. Oh, that really put me in the mood. I did have another Johnny Walker. me and my friend both ordered the New England clam chowder. It's a must when you come here. He ordered prime rib and I was in the mood for linguine with clams. Ambience was quiet. Service was great. The food was fantastic. Finished off tonight with hot apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and a cappuccino. So long Red's see you next year.Sal E. New Rochelle

Found this restaurant on yelp and decided to stop in on our why down to Long Island for Thanksgiving. They are close to the Thruway exit 21B. 3.5 to 4 stars The place is quite large with lots of seating area and off shoot areas for small groups. The service was very good. The food was good - Soup special Turkey asparagus was good but was a bit salty for my taste. Spouse had their MAINE LOBSTER ROLL - Their most popular sandwich! Chilled Maine lobster meat tossed with diced fresh cucumber, chopped scallion, and tarragon mayonnaise. Served on a brioche roll. 26.99. It was good but would get something else. For me - NASHVILLE HOT FISH SANDWICH Florida grouper double dredged in old bay seasoned flour then deep fried and dipped in our secret hot sauce. Served on a brioche bun with sliced avocado, sweet pickles and parmesan peppercorn dressing. 14.99. This was a good meal. Onion Rings were excellent. but cost extra $1.99. Mushroom Fritters were salty but OK. Also extra $1.99. Sandwiches DO NOT come with anything. They don't tell you this. I would return in the area but order something different.

I was so looking forward to eating at this seafood restaurant. My favorite items were the warm freshly baked dinner roll, raw oysters on the half shell, the blackberry mule cocktail special, the fries and onion rings. The customers in general seemed to enjoy the rolls. The man at the table across from us could be overheard exclaiming, "I wish I could have more bread." But he didn't ask for seconds and the server didn't offer to bring any. Our server, Sophia, was great. She was friendly and helpful. The actual meal took a while to arrive but Reds was very busy with a large women's party in the rear building. Perhaps it was a shower or bachelorettes gathering. The meals were a disappointment. My husband ordered an oyster po' boy. He said the sandwich was too small. Actually, since I make oyster po' boys at home, I think the problem was not enough oysters. When I make it at home, I use at least 9 large oysters. I think Reds po' boy had only 4. It was stingy. Almost all bread. The same goes for my lobster roll. It wasn't actually a roll since the lobster salad was served on a brioche bun. I didn't expect the bun. I use at least one lobster tail when I make a lobster roll. At Reds, I found thin slivers of lobster. There wasn't much filling. They used so little lobster and so little seasoning that there wasn't any flavor. I also don't like sweetened cole slaw so I had to skip it. It's a pretty restaurant with a mid-century decor. On a hot day, the air-conditioning worked great, but I didn't love the meal enough to want to return anytime soon. Perhaps if we come back, I should order a dinner entree. A grilled or fried salmon fillet might be an idea. Then I can see what I'm actually eating. The sandwiches came up short.

I've looked at the pictures and reviews for a long time and haven't been clamoring to go here but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance inside. We were seated right away and our waitress and the bartender were pleasant and friendly. My husband and I shared a dozen oysters and wow. I've had lots of raw oysters in my days. These were fresh and large! My husband had the fried platter and was pleased but didn't love the bread crumb topping they cook onto the mashed potatoes. Odd choice. I love seafood and sushi and have never tried soft shell crab which was a special. You can get it sautéed or fried and I went for sautéed. Unfortunately I really didn't like it! Not the restaurants fault. It was a texture thing where I felt like I was chewing on a fingernail to get to the crab meat. I would love to go back on a Thursday for their $1 oyster and $20 bottle of preseco night!

It is a crime that it's taken us so long to visit Reds. When you walk into Reds it like slipping back into the comfort of an earlier time when eating out with the family didn't mean a loud place with television screens on every wall. Reds opened in 1944 and is the oldest restaurant in Greene County -- in a great way. The decor is rustic but refined country club. Comfy red leather chairs, wood paneled walls, and friendly, attentive service. Reds has the cool, neon lobster on it signage signaling that it is about the seafood. But the menu offers much more than that! Reds offers plenty of variety to satisfy any palate (steaks, Asian fusion, burgers, pasta, salads, pizza, sandwiches, soup, etc.). We were starving when we arrived and quickly ordered an appetizer. We got the crispy dumplings. These are pan fried homemade short rib and goat cheese dumplings topped with bacon jalapeño aioli on a soy drizzled plate. Wow! Delicate and flavorful. Comes with 4 of these delightful bites. We also shared a dozen oysters that were fresh and briny. For dinner, Hubby got the lobster stew which is the house specialty. This was like a very rich, scrumptious lobster bisque but with chunks of lobster, potato, celery and onion and served in a bread bowl. It is made to order. I ordered the stuffed steelhead trout. Canadian steelhead trout fillet stuffed with our own shellfish stuffing and topped with sauce choron (a béarnaise sauce with a twist - without the chervil and tarragon but instead with added tomato puree.) Each of these entrées were perfectly executed with refinement. Flavors full yet delicate and layered. And very rich --- there were leftovers! We noticed there was a cool looking bar that we'd love to sit at for cocktails at a future visit!

Salmon and mashed potatoes: Salmon was overcooked and very dry also bland. Mashed potatoes were ok.

2.5 stars A friend saw this place on Yelp so we thought we could give it a try. Since it was for a Saturday dinner so we made reservation in advance. When we arrived there were about one third of people in the restaurant. The interior looks good and the place looks clean. We had to wait for everything, starting from our waiter coming to greet us and serving us water. Tap water was disgusting, it had very bad and fishy smell, we had to order sodas and other drinks instead. Our waiter was friendly but he didn't seem to know what he was doing. The food was terribly slow! We again had to wait for a while to get our sodas & cocktails. It took over an hour to get our appetizers and took forever to eventually got our entrees. Some of us almost feel asleep at the table. I got to say the appetizers were delicious BUT our entrees were so bad. The salmon was wayyyyyyyyyyyy overcooked and veryyyyyyy dry. I never wasted my food and this was the first time I couldn't finish and had to let it go. It was THAT BAD. They did ask how we liked the food but never apologize for slow service. We will probably not go back there again.

$27 lobster roll was disappointing, but the fries were good

I have been to Red's only a few times. Overall I find them to be just OK. This is not surprising as they are a seafood restaurant located many miles from the ocean. They are not even located in proximity to a lake or river. The best experiences were when ordering at their outdoor "Fish Fry Boat" that is open seasonally during the summer. Their fried clam roll here was decent and at a reasonable price. I recently tried their lobster roll and found it disappointing. Priced at $27 it did not live up to my expectations in size, quantity, or taste. A very small amount of lobster salad on what was described as a "brioche roll". A brioche roll can be very good but this was a small brioche-style hamburger roll that looked like it came from the local supermarket. The roll was served with fries (possibly the best part of this meal), coleslaw (OK) and a pickle. Service was good and waitstaff were pleasant and reasonably efficient. Bottom line: If you visit during the summer hit up the "boat" for one of their fried offerings. Otherwise expect fair food at a somewhat premium price.

Damon Baehrel, which is named after the chef himself, is probably considered the most exclusive restaurant in the world. It is literally a one-man show, as Chef Baehrel is the one who cooks, serves, and hosts a 5-6+ hour-dining experience for his guests at his beautiful home on his 12-acre property in upstate NY. As most know, this restaurant is booked solid until the year 2026, and they have not been taking any reservations/adding parties onto their waiting list since last year/'14 (this is for an indefinite period of time) - you bet your tootin' bootin' that I felt so victorious for bypassing others on the list by 11+ years!!! (Just note that it really doesn't matter 'who' you are, 'who' you know, and/or if you come equipped with a list of multiple referrals.) Known for his 'Native Harvest Cuisine,' every single item on his menu (besides the seafood that is brought fresh from Nova Scotia from his private supplier) is made/created/raised on the premise - when I mean every item, I mean EVERY item, from the flours, pressed oils, vinegars, breads, to the curing his own meats and aging his own cheeses! This restaurant is the epitome and the prime definition of what 'farm-to-table' should really be! We were welcomed warmly from Chef Baehrel, and I was super excited that we were his only guests for the evening - YES, IT WAS JUST THE 3 OF US, THE HUBS, ME, AND THE CHEF!!! (I think I literally sobbed right on the spot). Our super private dining experience was about 5.5+ hours, but actually flew right on by and was like a total dream - we were given a multi-course menu (about 24-26+ items, including some handful of extras since the Chef was just super excited in having us(!!!)), that featured seasonal, organic plants/fruits/vegetables/trees from his property, in addition to a lovely educational overview of each of the ingredients used for the dish. I just couldn't believe at some of the ingredients that he had used, and how each of them had a distinct flavor (and were all actually edible/okay for human consumption!) - it was amazing to listen to the experimentation, the time spent, the punctuality of harvesting such items throughout the year, and the multiple aging/preserving/curing process that he does. I had a lovely wine pairing with the multi-course dinner (delicious champagne, reds, whites, and dessert wines), while the hubs had homemade juice pairings made from the luscious fruits/tree saps (super delicious and refreshing!). The love, the passion, and the excitement from the chef was just purely an eye-opener, and this literally was the BEST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! BELIEVE THE HYPE (of the very few limited ones there are) - Chef Baehrel will change your life and exceed any and all expectations that you may/will have!!! You have to go there to experience it personally, as there are no words to describe such a unique experience - the overwhelming appreciation that you obtain in tasting the raw essence of the ingredients that are found around you was truly truly truly remarkable - Chef Baehrel is a GENIUS! Just note that there is no photography/video/recording equipment/note-taking allowed inside the restaurant, so PLEASE be respectful to the Chef (and, shame on those 'bloggers' who disregard/circumvent around this request/policy!). I cannot wait to go back! :D +BEST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!!! +Chef Damon Baehrel :D +Native Harvest Cuisine :D +5.5+ dining experience :D +no photography/video/recording equipment allowed inside the restaurant - please be respectful!

I put in my…read morereservation request in August 2012 and fully expected a 5-year minimum wait but to my delight I was able to snag a "special seating" on a Sunday at 4pm. It helps to be flexible with your dates and within driving distance. 20 courses (!), 4.5 hours. 5 hour round trip drive. 1 car rental. Completely worth it. Damon Baehrel is the ultimate host, completely charming and engaging. My wife and I were the only guests and it was awesome! Not awkward at all. What I loved about the meal, besides his "Native Harvest" dishes, was that by the end of it you can start to understand his botany heavy food lexicon, as certain themes started to emerge. Stevia and clover as thickening agents, all sap everything, powders galore, nut flours, fermentation trickery, homemade cheese. Homemade everything! (except some salt and the seafood/wine). Hearing his insanely detailed and clever course preparations makes you feel guilty about eating all of these small bites in less than 30 seconds. Damon paces the meal perfectly, always happy to chat and answer your questions at length. He takes great satisfaction in his cooking and sharing his techniques. This meal is about learning the process as much as it is about eating, and both are better for it. There were some items that sounded cooler than they tasted, but overall each dish was solid. The highlights for me were the teal duck and the duck egg "creme brulee". I guess I like duck. If you are fortunate enough to get a reservation here come with an open mind and don't expect a rich fancy-pants food experience or you will be disappointed. PS - Leaving a one-star review for a restaurant you have never eaten at just because you can't get a reservation is pathetic.

I know the waitress was hustling and it's not her fault, but I'm not sure why it took 45 minutes for our entrees to come out. She kept apologizing and saying it would be out soon but we were there for a full 90 minutes before we got our entrees which was weird. I ordered the harvest bowl with tofu and it was fine. It was a big portion size, great variety of veggies, and the pesto was good. But there wasn't enough pesto for the whole dish and without the pesto, nothing else was seasoned at all. It was so bland. The tofu was just big chunks of lightly seared plain tofu. I saw on the menu you can order fish and chips with tofu instead, but it seems silly to come to a place known for seafood and swap their fish for tofu. Especially after eating the harvest dish, I don't know if they would even know how to properly prepare the tofu. Maybe this is a good spot for drinks and oysters but that's about it!

The menu was varied and our food was very good. The best for me was the calamari; I have it very often and in several different restaurants and here it was outstanding! Crispy and tasty! I might have liked a bit more sauce with it, but I didn't think of that until the next day when I reheated my leftovers in my air fryer. I just opened a jar of Rao's and had an extended treat. A real surprise was the Kalamata Shrimp. It was good when I had it hot, but it was terrific when I had it the next day straight out of the refrigerator!
