What a great place!! My husband and I decided to try Redd's before the Iron Maiden concert last night at the Prudential Center. If you're staying at the Marriott it's walking distance from the hotel. Once inside a seasoned, pleasant and professional staff that is definitely use to large crowds and quick service. Although the restaurant was packed the service for food and beer was quick! They were playing Iron Maiden music to get the guests ready for the show! Highly recommend if you're going to a hockey game or concert. You won't be disappointed! Great experience! We were visiting for a hockey game and this establishment is right beside the Prudential Centre. Sat at the bar and the staff are 5* amazing folks who enjoy what they do and so friendly and great service. We met some friendly good human beings who are regulars as well that were so kind to us visiting from Toronto. Good Guinness on draught and we tried the pretzel (perfect amount of salt and that side sauce OMG) as well as their bratwurst sausage which was fresh and piping hot. read more

Watched my first soccer game here and the food was amazing. Not really a fan of the meatballs. But the wings abd tenders were really good.

Came here for an Rutgers vs. Seton Hall tailgating event and Redd's staff were on point. Being just steps from the Prudential center, it's no surprise this place was packed before game time and anytime there is an event at Prudential or "The Rock", this place is definitely a good place to stop in at, with it being a prime location for any games or other events. The Staff were more than ready with likely 100+ people filing into the bar, the unlimited appetizers for the tailgate were indeed unlimited and even though things got snatched up quick, it kept coming. The bartender team was pretty good and the wait staff doing rounds were all friendly when asked questions. The appetizers were all awesome the pretzels, sausages, cheese apps were all great, even these potato pancakes that were served with sour cream! mmmmm, never even seen that offered at a bar, but it was hot and crispy, which brings me to the best app of them all....the wings! These were some of the best wings I've had in a long time, nice, hot and crispy and big! The sauces were also good too. This is significant because at a lot of bars and lounges these days the wings are average and in some cases below average but these wings were great! Redd's is very spacious with two large bar counters with plenty of room about the rest of the bar to sit, stand and rest your drinks on and handle a huge crowd of people. The big game brought a huge crowd and though it was packed, it wasn't 'jampacked' which allowed for wiggle room to get about, which shows how much this space is available here. The place was rather spacious with multiple bars and long tables to sit at. The food was picked up in a designated spot if ordering at the bar where I sat. The menu had a vast number of German options. I had a cheddar bratwurst ($9.99) and bier battered onion rings ($6.99). The cheddar brat was served with rye bread, sauerkraut, and fries. The bread was burnt and was only one piece so it was tough to fold the bread with the brat. Regardless, the brat was tasty with plenty of flavor and a hint of the cheddar cheese. The sauerkraut and fries were also a nice touch. The onion rings came with a horseradish sauce, which made them that much better. They were fried appropriately with plenty of batter integrated in. Great beer selection, solid menu, and huge space with a real German beer hall mixed w sports bar ambiance but damn they need to higher some staff. Upon our arrival around 1pm there were about 20-30 patrons and a single guy working both the bar and the tables. Worked his but off and did an admirable job but as the place filled up over the next hour or two I just felt bad for everyone. People were confused because you order food at the bar and pick it up at the window as they have no waiters. Bar became full and still just the one guy doing his absolute best but saw several people walk in and eventually leave. Pretzel was solid, wings were cooked to a crispy perfection and the fish and chips were spot on. As I said the beer selection was great as well. During our entire experience no one was available to clean the tables so they are all covered in empty plates and I just felt bad for the guy working the bar. He didn't seem to be too bothered so seems like this is probably normal which is just sad. More staff can sell more beer and food = more $$. read more

I wish my experience here was as good as the other reviews, I chose to eat here based on all the other reviews and the food looking so good in the pictures. A friend and I went to the NKOTB concert at the prudential center and we popped in for a bite to eat before we went. We ordered large beers (which were gigantic) so they get 1 star for that. But the food..... NYC public schools have better food in their cafeteria. We ordered mozzarella sticks which were obviously frozen, but terrible quality. The sweet potato fries were half cooked when we bit into them, and don't get me started on the chicken fingers. It was the lowest of the low grade quality of frozen chicken fingers possible. Maybe on other nights they're a little better, but when events are happening it seems they just serve the lowest quality or whatever is left over in the freezer. In the end it was so awful, I don't think I would ever return if I was in the area. read more

This was my first time here. It will be my last time here. Location is next to the Prudential Center So I assumed the kitchen would be able to operate at a serviceable level when they were busy. Guess not. The Schnitzel was like rubber, the serrated knife couldn't cut through parts of it. The biggest offender was the Spatzle, which seemed to heated in a microwave. My biggest problem was the automatic 20% gratuity that was added to my single beer which I purchased at the bar before ordering my food. I understand that some people may be cheap but an automatic gratuity is a deal breaker for me. Feel free to try it for yourself and see if it's good for you, but I'll be looking for another spot to spend my money next time I'm in the area. read more

This is your typical German Biergarten with lots of picnic like tables to sit at. When I walked in I came in through the Market street entrance and at first you have to walk through a little isle. It looked small because that entrance is pretty small, however, when you pass through the isle and get there the place is huge! There are two entrance, the market street entrance and the entrance that's right in front of the arena. I went for a happy hour after work and that was my first time there but my experience was great. The happy hour specials were even better! They had $5 wine, $5 appetizers, and beer specials that were as low as $4. I was hitting the show for the Original Misfits at the Prudential Center the other day and this was where my friends and I chose to meet up and do a little pregaming. Since the time was short on the hang and the offerings limited to being quick, I can only speak of them and the overall atmosphere of the place. The biergarten or Beer Garden is located across the street from the venue so it will get crowded but we still managed to secure a table. I settled on a couple of pints of Shock Top and shared one of their gigantic Bavarian pretzels with my friend. Both of these hit the spot. There was a lot of other choices but as I mentioned the time was short and we had a show to hit. I didn't detect any open so I used my own to check in and do posts on the new Eatellia app and I had to say that the servers were polite and always smiling. Over our heads the stereo played classic Punk band songs which kept the vibe on point. I don't get to the Prudential Center as much as I'd like for shows but if I do again I will most likely be returning to Redd's. read more

I have been meaning to come here since the place recently opened up (right next to the Prudential Center). Came here for a company happy hour the other day. This is a great spot to meet up with friends as it has a lot of space for seating (as per your usual biergarten). Tons of beer selections, and very easy to order drinks/food as the bartenders are pretty attentive. My recommendations would be the wurst platter, which gives you a sample of different bratwursts and some fries, and also redd's calamari, which is basically your typical calamari but lathered with amazing sauce! I can't say much about the pricing since it was company event and I was freeloading, but I'll definitely recommend that as one of the few nice places to have a drink in Newark! read more

Really enjoyed this German themed beer hall, and loved the authentic German fare. I had the sauerbraten and thoroughly enjoyed every tender, mouthwatering bite. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the red cabbage and potato pancake accompaniments were spot on and equally tasty. On New Jersey Devils' game nights the place is absolutely PACKED, so plan to get comfy with your neighbors seated on the family style picnic benches--which simply add to the Euro watering hole ambiance. Oh Redd's. A happy hour that lasts for five hours, seven days a week. God bless you. But seriously, Redd's is a great addition to the Rock Plaza strip on Market Street. The interior is well designed, with fully-stocked bars flanking the room, and long, wooden tables and some tall counter seating in the middle. Ample seating. Plus, there is a private room at Redd's for group reservation. The beer selection is pretty extensive (Redd's and Bello's are tied for that in the city). The happy hour deal is good, but the normal prices for drinks are reasonable as well. I recommend stopping into Redd's if you are in Downtown Newark. read more

We had a quick bite to eat before going into the center to watch the Devils games. There is nothing really amazing about this place but it was not horrible either. When you walk in, it can be really confusing because there is no one to great you or tell you the working of the establishment. You kinda have to figure it out on your own. You have to walk up to the counter, order your food, find sitting or standing room and then wait for you pager to go off and go back and get your food. The Buffalo wings were standard, but the were not hot when they came out. This was a problem because I don't like room temperature food. The homemade pretzel was huge and really amazing, but it was not 5 bucks because there was a game. The burgers were not good because they were burnt. This place is huge, and usually empty outside a concert night or the occasional Devils game. Nicely laid out with a few large bars and lots of deer heads, I mean lots of them lining the walls. Beer selection is large, even if it lacks a bit on the local Jersey breweries. The food holds its own, what you would expect. Staff is friendly though can get a bit hectic on game and concert nights. Stopped by Redd's on a cold, late night after catching a game. The menu consisted of a number of items with multiple appetizer options, a full section of different brats/sausages and other plate options. After looking through other Yelp reviews I opted for the Cheddar Bratwurst because a pic I came across and the review sounded good. My friend ordered the Pretzel Chicken Schnitzel based on another review. To start we ordered the Redd's calamari that was described on the menu as being served with cherry peppers, diced tomatoes and a spicy orange ginger glaze. When the order was ready the first thing that I thought was that the calamari didn't look anything like the description. Regular calamari with marinara. Most of them were left behind... It wasn't until after the meal that I realized we were given the Traditional Calamari appetizer mistakenly... The cheddar brat was good. Served on a piece of toast with a side of fries and sauerkraut. The spicy mustard on the side was a nice add. Fries were okay but nothing special but the brat was really good. The schnitzel was served with mustard on it, a side of potatoes & a side of mixed veggies. It looked good but was described as overlooked and kinda tasteless in the areas without the mustard. The best part was the veggies I was told. The environment was perfect to plan for a pre game or post game meal and drinks. I'm likely to try it again - maybe a pretzel next time. read more

Came for happy hour (2pm-7pm) on a Saturday with some friends. The place initially wasn't packed at all, there were many tables open. The happy hour menu has $3, $4 and $5 1/2 Liter draft beers, $5 well drinks and wines by the glass, and $5 appetizers. Not all draft beers are included in the happy hour, however they do have some good beers on the happy hour menu like $4 Yuengling, $5 Hefeweizen, $5 Shock Top. Some appetizers included on the happy hour menu are the Bavarian pretzel, Mac & cheese wedges, pork sliders. I was hungry so I ended up ordering the Vegan Wurst (smoked apple sage sausage), which was topped with sauerkraut, came with a piece of toasted rye bread, and a good portion of fries all for about $10.50. The vegan sausage didn't much taste like apple or sage, it kind of tasted like a healthier version of a turkey hot dog. I don't fathom the taste of meat anymore as a recent (7mo) pescatarian, so this wurst was difficult to eat .. I drowned it in ketchup lol (I was hungry and needed to eat)! Overall, the service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was fun. They only started playing music around 3:30, but even without the music the place became buzzing with people conversing. This is a great casual place to get together with friends! I've been to Redd's twice on business trips that had me staying nearby. Great place - good selection of beer and good food. Neither time was on a day the Prudential Center had an event, so it was fairly tame atmosphere-wise. My first visit was on Super Bowl Sunday, there were plenty of people, but nothing like I've read in other reviews when the PC is active - plenty of seating available. Two comments: while they have a large beer selection, I didn't see any differences in the beers on offer on my two visits (6 months apart). I'd expect the local beers to rotate (maybe they do rotate - on a 3- or 6-month cycle?). There is LOTS of hype for the pretzel chicken schnitzel. That's what I had recently, and it was fine, but not a must-have. Whatever I had before (probably some kind of pork loin?) was better - I can't ding Redd's for that as it's a personal preference thing, but I would like to see tap rotation. I'll be back. read more

Never come here to pregame before a show at prudential. Only two bartenders for the entire mob that was there. Never got drinks and left. People were fighting and screaming. It was chaotic. Couldn't believe they would only staff 2 bartenders for the night during an event. ‍ read more

Beer selection is top notch. Food & service is not Expensive, so be prepared to drop a few bucks if you choose Redd's to pre or post game/concert. Personally, I go for the German beer & that's it. I've ordered food in the past & was not a fan. read more

This place is consistently my go-to when hitting the Prudential Center for something. It's spacious, the food is great and they have a large drink selection. Have been here at least 10 times and have never been disappointed with the food. I'd say stick to beer, because the cocktails aren't really strong or worth the money. The staff is really a mixed bag - some of them are super friendly and helpful and others it seem wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire. If you're going before an event definitely try to get there a few hours before otherwise you'll have a hard time finding a seat or space. read more

Right across the street from Prudential Center. Absolutely slammed right before a Devils game but... Redd's can handle it! Good food and drink, reasonably priced, EXTREMELY efficient. I've seen many lesser bars and kitchens choke on half the crowd at Redd's. They're great. read more
