Love this place! Love the beer and the huge Pretzel! The service is great and the space is huge to either hang by the bar or sit at a picnic table with your friends and or family. read more

Ya know that place that's right across the street from a sports arena and you go there because it's convenient and they know it so they have terrible food, bad service and outrageous prices forcing you to write badly written run on sentences because they don't deserve proper punctuation? Well this is that place. They do get two stars for the beer selection and not having to walk far to the Devils game. read more

Can't really speak to food options in the area, but the German food was good. They hav a nice selection of beers including German beers, including lagers. So many places with large beer selections seem to have a billion ales and nothing else. These guys have a variety and I am thankful for it. They also let me watch curling and I thank them for that. read more

We decided to get some lunch here the day of an EXO concert at Prudential. Having walked by a few times we decided to try. Having been there only once I'm not sure this was just a bad day or if it's the usual. Our waitress was quite unfriendly and seemed in a rush, even though there were only a few small groups in the restaurant. My two friends and my mother all ordered the Weiner Schnitzel, which they said was just okay. On the other hand, I ordered the Pretzel Chicken Schnitzel which came completely burnt. All in all we were quite unimpressed. read more

Food is underwhelming here and not real German by any means. Sauerkraut totally flavorless, straight out of the bag. Frozen French fries served with no name ketchup. Two stars for the attentive friendly service and fun atmosphere. But food gets zero stars. Won't be back. read more

Came here to eat/kill some time before the Seton Hall game. Redd's has an awesome location, directly next to the Prudential. I was pleasantly surprised overall with Redd's Biergarten. Started off with Bavarian Soft Pretzel that came with a cheddar mustard dipping sauce. I really enjoyed this appetizer, not so much for the pretzel itself but more so for the dipping sauce! The cheddar mustard sauce was really yummy and unique. The pretzel was huge and I loved the presentation of it but it was pretty average in taste. It wasn't really soft but it was still enjoyable because of that dipping sauce. I had the Caraway and Garlic Roasted Loin of Pork sandwich, which came on a pretzel broche roll topped with sauerkraut and melted swiss cheese with a side of fries. The sandwich was very hearty with a lot of meat, they gave a generous portion. It was topped with a ton of sauerkraut and cheese and pretty delicious. I did think it was a tad bit dry but they gave you a side of honey mustard with it so that solved that problem. I think it can be a little confusing at first for a newbie (like myself) when you get to Redd's, they don't make it entirely clear how the process works. For us, we sat at the bar and ordered our beer and food through the bartender, we're given a pager and went and picked up the food when it was ready. I do notice a lot of people say they ordered the food themselves at the window but we were not subjected to that during our visit. This place is huge so even when it started to get really busy, it never felt sardine can packed. I would definitely come back before another game. Until next time Redd's, lets go SHU!! read more

Absolutely appalling. This place is 100% NOT COVID COMPLIANT. I went yesterday for some dinner and drinks with a few friends and we were quickly surrounded by 100s of college kids none of who were wearing masks. We asked to speak to the owners and they addressed the situation with the upmost unprofessionalism and ended up asking us to leave. They said that they have a million dollar loan to pay and cater to the college students. They would rather break the law and risk every one of those college kids lives, and their families lives, then comply with the law. They defended themselves and told us we were wrong and mean. The "manager" did not approach us with a mask on until we pointed that out to them. I could not have felt more disgusted or uncomfortable. Would never return, COVID or not. read more

Solid beer selection, super loud music, average food. Happy hour has a decent selection of basic beers/wines for $5 and some finger food. The pretzel was good, but not the best biergarten pretzel I have ever had, but the chicken wings and fingers could have been better. "Jumbo" wings they were not and $5 for 5 small wings or 5 small fingers isn't exactly the best deal. Drink lots of beer first and I'm sure the food will taste amazing over time. Seems to draw a Rutgers crowd. We came here for a quick bite before a performance a NJ PAC - definitely within walking distance. read more

Very fun place to hit before you see a show at the Prudential Center. Decent prices. Service was VERY friendly but sometimes aloof, even when it was empty. If I ever go to the Prudential Center I'll definitely stop here for a drink and food first. read more

I want to like this place, as it's one of the few bars around the Prudential Center. However, be careful when you plan to check this place out. I tried to go at midnight on a Thursday (and was pleasantly surprised by the upbeat crowd). This was quickly ruined when the manager told us they were closed. When I questioned their posted hours on their website, Google, and Yelp - the manager told us, "I have the discretion to close the bar." I have to wonder what business would close 1 1/2 hours early with a bar full of people...especially following a concert at the Prudential Center. read more

Went after a sold out concert. Not only was the bar understaffed, the employees were plain rude and completely ignored people they looked dead in the face. Yes they were overwhelmed but their attitude and demeanor was unacceptable. Got a beer that couldn't even be filled up to the top. To be understaffed on a Saturday, let alone a Saturday with a sold out concert is crazy. The only saving grace was the food and even the order was messed up. read more

The Weiner Schnitzel was great and the Brooklyn Schwartzbier a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere is decent and this place is pretty busy on those nights the NJ Devil's are playing at home. read more

The atmosphere was fair and I really wanted to give this place a higher score but unfortunately I could not. The pretzels and fries were the main attraction for my fiancé and I but the end result was meh. The beer was decent and if this is what you are going for then it will not disappoint. It was quite loud so I would not recommend bringing anyone with hearing concerns. read more

Excellent place for mixers, meet ups, lunch, and dinner. The bar is a nice watering hole. Their best dishes are the gigantic pretzels, the buttery German noodles, the Chicken schnitzel, and calamari. They even have a pretty decent vegan sausage entree. Desserts like the apple strudel are great. read more

I visited for lunch on a Wednesday with a group of 9 other co-workers who were visiting from Washington. Although I work nearby, none of us had been here before and it was a spontaneous decision. There is no on the street parking so you most likely have to park in a paid lot. It's steps from the Prudential Center. It's a large restaurant with a large bar on the right and a small bar on the left when you walk in. Very open with lots of picnic tables for seating. Tremendous selection of beers. The menu is large and consists of lots of German specialties. Our table began with a couple of Bavarian Pretzels and an order of the Redd's calamari. The Bavarian pretzels were huge and tasty. They were big enough for 2-3 people. The calamari was a decent size portion. The calamari appeared to be fresh and not frozen. Tasty with a little spice to it. For my meal, I had the "Adam's Grilled Chicken." I was a bit disappointed with it. The chicken consisted of two small thin breasts that were very dry. The veggies were fresh and not frozen. The spaetzle was fried and tasty. Overall, the portion was decent. A few of my co-workers had the burgers and one of them had the frankfurter which was huge and fat. The burgers looked great and nobody complained. The prices were very reasonable. The service was good and friendly. One of my co-workers and I returned for happy hour later that day. If you're ordering food during happy hour, I would stick to the regular menu. When we ordered the Bavarian pretzel again, it was a normal size pretzel you would see at a supermarket. We were expecting the huge one again for half the price. We ordered chicken wings and it only came with 4 in a basket. Again we expected more. I must admit the wings were tasty. I had the Sam Smith Organic Strawberry Ale which was cold and tasty. A great change from a regular ale. My co-worker had the Spaten Octoberfest. She loved it. We will be back for sure. read more

I am so happy this place opened by the pru center. It has a great atmosphere and good service. It is a really cool bar, great beer selections and reasonable prices. I had hot wings and they were good, but could be a little more flavorful. Beer selection is on point. Glad you guys opened in Newark! read more

Went to Redd's Biergarten before the Eagle's concert. Packed, crazy, but you would never know it. Service at the bar was spot on. "Server 801" is all I've got. Professional, great attitude and just a very nice person, period. She will know who she is...mention ladie's underwear left on the floor by the bar (no one in MY party!). Keep up the cold beer and hot pretzels, we will be back! read more

My hubby and I love this place! As Devils fans, we've been coming here to pre-game / post-game. Great beer selection, the onion rings are the best we've had in a long time, and I can't say enough good things about their customer service. Our man Calvin anticipates everything we need even if the place is super packed. And speaking of super packed, it's probably because this place has good vibes. Other food favorites include wings, Redd's calamari, and foot long frankfurter. Beer faves: Franziskaner Dunkel, Carton Red Rye, and Kean's Head IPA. read more

As a beer lover, I was excited to see a beer garden come into Newark. Redd's is located in premier restate, right next to prudential center in the heart of downtown Newark. It's has a classy aesthetic with a not too ornate entrance. Draft selection could be better but I am happy with their bottle craft beers the have in stock. Food was less than average in my opinion. I order at currywurst and fries. The fries were cold, seemed like they could have been heated up or where sitting under a warmer. The currywurst was more like a hot dog. All in all, you want authentic European beer garden food, with cool and authentic draft beers, this isn't the place. But if you are in the area, a tad hungry and wouldn't mind a refreshing Hoegaarden on tap to wash it down, This will do just fine. read more

Redd's Biergarten - Mmmm mediocre at best - German Near Me - Newark, New Jersey

Redd's is a new restaurant to the Newark Downtown across the street from the Prudential Centers. Two Large open bars on either side of there main seating area. They have a large assortment of beers on tap and bottled. If you love beer you will have to visit. In the middle of the bars they have large picnic benches for larger groups and families.I did not like that when you order your food you are given a electronic buzzer that goes off when your food is ready to be picked up. I had two weiss beer draft and their chicken fingers (which were so large they were like legs) the dipping suase was honey mustard and was mostly mustard. This look like it will fill the bill for family and friends who want a drink and a something to eat before an event and want a more casual and relaxed atmosphere. I will be back to try a bit more of the menu and a few more of the beer offerings. read more

Great place! We haven't been here yet, but have been to the one in New Brunswick a few times and enjoy it, so decided to stop in before a concert at the Pru Center. It was PACKED!! And LOUD! Understandably so... there had to have been over a hundred people inside. Luckily, a group stood up and we slid into their spot. We moved some of their trays over and waved down a server. She took our order, wiped our table and then let us know she wasn't our server, but would put the order in for us and let our server know we were there, and gave us our servers name. Even though we weren't in her section, it was nice she took everything down for us instead of getting our server - very refreshing! Our server brought our drinks over 5 minutes later and our meal not much long after ... we were expecting to wait for a long time and were surprised we did not. I'm sure we were lucky and got the tail end of the crowd, but the servers and cooks were all still hopping! All of the wait staff was very friendly and our food came out just as we ordered. We had some confusion over which beer belonged to who - it was very noisy and we couldn't hear the server when she dropped the drinks off. But she came back immediately and cleared it up. A must go if you enjoy German food! We have to make it to the original restaurant in Carlstadt eventually. Just be prepared, if you go on an event night, it's going to be super crowded! But it's worth it! Very friendly, down home attitude, casual, and fun. Great place to watch sports, grab a beer or meal, or what read more

I like Redd's. They have an awesome full bar, ample seating and unique menu items. One of my favorite's is the Red Bull Wrap along with the Vegan Wurst. Food and drinks are all reasonably priced and staff is super friendly. Of all the places around Prudential Center to pregame before a concert or game, Redd's is by far my favorite. Will continue to patronize this establishment. read more

Love this place!! Great drinks and food the atmosphere is cool and the bartender Noni is awesome!

The menu didn't say no Happy Hour during events (which I'm assuming what it is since the menu does say 7 days a week). The bartender couldn't get my order right when I was telling what apps I wanted. Also the food was not good at all. The Mac and cheese wedges were supermarket quality, the nachos had a whole salad in top of them with not good cheese, the mozzarella sticks were ok and the chicken tenders were just ok too. Wish I tried the place next door instead. read more

Islanders/Devils before a game, my friend and I were looking for food... long story short, the kitchen got way backed up and we didn't get our food before we could get back to the arena. After the game, I went over to explain the situation and asked for the manager. Dan the owner apologized, voided the order and asked if my friend and I would like anything else for the inconvenience... a gentlemen! Hey, the place was packed and as a new restaurant they have to work out the kinks, but these things happen. I'll be back at Redd's for the next time the Islanders are playing in Newark. Thanks Dan & co! *ps never mind "yelpers" haha. read more

Going through some growing pains I can tell. The food window apologized for the delay taking our order when we were the only people waiting. The jukebox has too wide a variety of music. The place has an overall feel of being in Newark. It doesn't transport me anywhere. The inside is bigger than I expected. The big pretzel was buttery, but the sauce was mediocre. The beer selection can't be beat in Newark. It'll get better as the work things out and I'll write an update in the future. I can imagine it getting too packed during event nights but we'll see. read more

Huge German Hall with benches instead of tables. German style food too. I had the cheddar brat with fries. It was good a little pricey for a small dish. The bier selection was good and tasteful. If a place advertises that it's open until 2 am, it should not close two hours earlier. Period. I get the profit motive, no customers so let's shit down... But after a potential customer walks to the establishment on the recommendation of the hotel desk attendant, you can't expect the customer to be happy to find a place that closes 2 hours earlier than advertised. I know, it's a first-world problem, but facing a crap day tomorrow, I was hankering for a nightcap. read more

It's great to see a place like this open in Newark and I hope they can succeed long term. I came here on a Saturday night a week after it opened and there are some growing pains for sure. For example, the bar tender wasn't sure what glass to use for each beer and the buzzer system didn't work when my food was done. However, I'm sure these are kinks that will be worked on and solved soon. As for positives- the places has a wide beer selection.
