As a new transplant to Redding, I wanted to get into biking and was recommended to come to this shop for my biking needs. I have been blown away by the friendly and welcoming bike mechanics at this shop. Joe and Andy are super knowledgeable and very patient with teaching me the basics of the sports. They have my best interest in mind, budget in mind, and never upsale. They take the time to identify what i want out of the sport, my fitness level, my sizing- which big box stores have failed to do for me in the past. I did however have one specific issue with my bike, Joe called specialized on my behalf and figured it out in half a day! They stand by their products and provide great personalized support. It's sad to say they have lost 2 long time customers over a small return. I know it will not make a difference in the long run. I purchased a pair of ASTRAL shoes less than a week ago. I wore them a couple times around home. They have a stench & are not the quality expected. Unfortunately as I wore them I'm not able to return or exchange. I understand in a sense but I also know had they been purchased just about anywhere else I would not be out $135+. While cycling nearby on the Sacramento River Trail, my bike broke. I lost my rear derailer. Redding Sports LTD was the only bike shop open on a Sunday. They serve a Specialized bike and mine was a Trek, they did take a minute to look to see if they had the part. They were not able to repair my bike. A shout out to Jackson and Rio, who took their time and patience to look through everything to help me. In the end they couldn't but it was a great Bike Shop. My wife has a Specialized Expedition 24-speed bike that she purchased from Sports LTD in 2005. It was in need of both derailer cables and a shorter seat stem. I explained what the bike needed to Tech Andy one day and he said to bring it to him the following day. We took it in and within a couple of hours he installed new cables, replaced the seat stem, lubricated everything and and gave it a once over finding no issues to repair. I would not hesitate taking our business to Sports LTD in the future. Andy did an excellent job, the repair bill was lower than expected and finished earlier than expected. Small repairs are often done on the spot getting you back out on your bike in short order. During COVID, I visited Sports LTD. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the team working Halloween night. The women were all very friendly & while some were wearing costimes, all were wearing masks. The store was very clean & I was excited to look for sunglasses. Sage helped me find the perfect pair of Spy Flynn 5050 shades in blue. They look awesome & she really took the extra time I needed to walk me outside so I could compare 2 lenses. I chose mirrored black & blue. Inside, the black felt best on my eyes but lucky for me, Sage suggested we walk outside & let me wear them under the sun. The difference was very apparent & I opted for the blue. She had a great attitude & was a really fun breath of fresh air. The retail industry often leaves me with a bitter taste due to the lack of customer service. As a result, I largely shop online. Because of Sage & the other employees, I'll definitely be back in to shop in person. Thank you Sage for ALL your help & for your super awesome personality & sense of humor. After a not so good experience here, I Yelped about it (see above) and I received a response from the manager - she left her phone number. I was quick to call and eager to hear what she had to say. She got the date and time when my not so good experience happened and assured me she would look into the situation because she could tell who was there and see a video. She said she would follow up and I mentioned we were going on a cruise, she asked the date of the cruise and said she would call when we returned. She followed up yet again. She explained the problems that day and that it was a comedy of errors, which I could see was indeed unusual. She said her staff felt bad and sorry for our experience and used the feedback to improve customer service. What a positive experience this actually turned out to be. Is Redding Sports LTD kind of pricy? Oh yeah, but aren't all outdoor sporting goods stores? Are they unique? Everything I'll say below, I could probably say about REI -- but the nearest REI is in Sactown. So here's the thing. If I had to be content playing only with toys purchased from Redding Sports LTD for the next year, I'd be happy. If I had to dress from head to toe for a year with clothing purchased exclusively from this store, I'd be happy. I could march into this place and drop $10k on new stuff I'd love to own -- backpacking gear, mountain bikes, kayaks, cargo rack, skis, sunglasses, clothes, shoes, hiking boots -- and then do it again the next day. Every Christmas, we drop a boatload of money here just on socks. Hundreds of dollars JUST ON SOCKS. Why? Because they carry Smartwool socks, which are the best socks on the planet. Everyone loves 'em. l have two unmatched Smartwool Ph.D. socks in my sock drawer, and it breaks my heart to look at them. Go upstairs for the off-season bargains. read more

I "bought" some VFFs from Redding via their website, received confirmation, had my credit card charged and felt I could finally close my search for the seemingly non-existent shoes. Going so far as to call the store beforehand and watch as their online inventory decremented while I placed an item into the cart. About an hour later, I get an email saying hey, too bad, we're sold out. After a little back and forth, they admit that although an item may be shown as available on their website, that is not any reflection of reality. They hand wrote the label, and messed up the zipcode. My package got lost in Post Office hell for 2 months, and they didn't even bother keeping me posted on the progress even though they happily charged my credit card. I giving this bad review because of the horrible customer service I received from management. I planned to buy some snowboard bindings that were on their website but they did not have in store. The website is incorrect and not updated. So I decided to buy some different bindings.. I put them on layaway and not ten minutes after leaving the store I get a call telling me the bindings would not work on my snowboard and to come back and pick another pair. So I returned and instead of picking out another pair.. I just got my $$ back and bailed. This company has actually hired a security guard to stand in the parking lot and have people towed if they park near this store and go to another store in the shopping complex. My boyfriend and I were told if we shop at Redding Sports and then go get coffee after at Madayne's next door, they would have us towed. My wife and I find ourselves shopping here more often. Products are top grade so if you are looking for cheap bargains look for the close out sales or go to the box stores. I find apples to apples Sports Ltd can be competitive. This place has everything for the outdoors person and you can spend a couple hours just looking at stuff. Go into this store looking at skis and you might find yourself with skis and a new backpack. They have a large breath of product and deep inventory. Staff if very knowledgeable and friendly. See bad ratings for Internet so I hoped they fixed this problem. Look-we need these kind of stores in town. They are in a market that is not served by the big chains. If they leave we have to travel or hope we bought the right boots online. Support this business. It is a win-win for Redding and all that use the great outdoors. read more

On a spontaneous trip away from Humboldt, my partner and I decided to try and get some snowboard rentals. Redding Sports was the first place I called. They had great rates and we headed right over. Gary helped us get fitted for boards and boots and we purchased some snow pants and gloves on great clearance prices. The rest of the staff we spoke with were also very helpful and efficient. This is an okay store and I have been here a few times. They kind of cater to the crowd of people who drive from Redding to ski at Shasta. Some of their items are overpriced but then again they have a swap (twice a year) and some sale days when there are excellent deals to be found. The main problem with this place is that they seem to exclusively hire younger people who just man the registers, which is all well and good but skiing, boarding and biking are sports where experience makes a big difference and if the worker doesn't have said experience then it is hard to trust that their product recommendations are good ones. Overall it isn't a bad place and if you have the money to not wait for the sale/swap days then you might as well come here, they have been in business for a very long time and more or less know what they are doing. read more

The deciding factor was the great, no pressure, service I received. They did a great job of helping me decipher the overwhelming information and tailor it to what was pertinent to me. After test riding numerous bikes in redding and chico, I narrowed my search down to 4 bikes. HORRIBLE!!!!! I ordered some long underwear from them. First off, when I got the order, it smelled like smoke. Not a huge problem. BUT they also left the anti-steal tag (which stores have a special machine to remove) on the pants!!! Since I do not have such a machine, I had to remove it myself and damaged the product in the process!
