Pictures really don't do it justice -- the cliffs and sandstone formations are much more impressive in person. The tour is about 2 hours long and includes two stops where you get off the boat to explore. One stop is at Witches Gulch where you walk through a narrow, mossy canyon that feels almost magical, and the other is Stand Rock where you can see one of the Dells' most famous rock formations up close. The guides did a great job sharing the history of the area, including how parts of the Dells were preserved from developers, which is why the scenery still looks so natural today. Overall it was a really relaxing and enjoyable tour. The views, the history, and being out on the river made it well worth it. Definitely recommend if you're visiting the Dells!

We visited early October and had no issue walking right up to the ticket window and then walking right onto the Duck. I assume it gets pretty busy in the summer and there is a maze of partitions for larger crowds, and a snack bar to hold you over until you get on the Duck. The driver and guide are great at balancing cheesy jokes and some time for you to enjoy the scenery and the ride. We learned a little about the history of the Ducks themselves, the Lake Delton area, and Wisconsin wildlife as we took about an hour long tour. It was great to see some scenery and lean about the history, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a little something different to do than waterparks!

The tour lasts around 30 minutes and takes you through winding rock formations and narrow alleys. I was amazed at how the horses could walk us through such tight spaces. During the ride, the guide shared interesting facts about the rocks, the history of the place, and even about the blue roan horses. It was nice to learn how well these horses are cared for during the off-season and how they get to stay at the farm after they retire. Our horses were about 10 years old, and they did a great job. This was a very different and unique tour compared to others I've taken. I absolutely loved it! A wonderful way to spend time in the Dells.

I made sure to read a ton of reviews before coming here today. I had major concerns about people…read moresaying there were high charges to use your credit card and that they stop mid-tour to try and sell you trinkets. I was also worried about the religious comments many reviews have talked about as the last thing I want is to be paid to be proselytized to. When I arrived, I got even more worried about that as there are religious images everywhere. We were also frustrated because their website shows they open at 9 am (see screenshot) but we arrived at 930 to find other people waiting saying they were told they don't open until 10:00. We were not off to a good start. HOWEVER, all of that changed when the carriage pulled in. We walked up to purchase our tickets and there is large sign The ticket window that states there admission is $21.95 per adult and you will be charged a credit card fee. Right underneath that it says that if you pay cash tickets are $20. We chose to pay cash and I recommend that you do too, because that will leave you with more money to tip your driver. Our driver was very nice and informative and nowhere along our journey did he talk about anything religious. He explained that the canyon was formed by nature and untouched by man. Our tour was full of interesting information and a few laughs here and there. Asking for female volunteers to change the horse's diaper might have been a little misogynistic, but I don't think it was malicious. The tour was very laid-back and I felt comfortable. He did stopidway through the tour to rest the horses for a moment and offer us some postcards. He explained, as people have noted, that he makes the majority of his money as a tour guide from tips and from selling the postcards. We chose to purchase the cards at the end of the journey because we would have tipped anyway. It actually seems quite sad that the guides feel the need to do this in order to make a living wage. It was dog friendly but it was clear right away that the horses did not want our dog anywhere near them. So we were very respectful of that and made sure not to bring her close to them and to sit all the way in the back. She didn't bark or fuss at all and even fell asleep in our laps on the ride. There were 13 of us on the wagon so it was a little packed. It was a very short trip through the canyon, maybe 30 or 40 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. The Dells are incredibly touristy and this was by far the most enjoyable thing we did here. I would definitely recommend this tour, although I think it probably makes a big difference which guide you get. I also think that being prepared helped me enjoy the experience that much more. If one wants an interior view of local flora & fauna, this is low energy, fantastic way to explore it! Children & adults (esp those who are children at heart!) will thrill at riding the small scale train. We loved watching the engine be turned around on the hand-operated round table. Our favorite part of the visit was the personal attention we received from Conductor Greg! We visited on a late summer Thursday afternoon when the rail was not as busy, and he treated us to a personalized narrated tour of the history of the railway as well as the fauna, flora, & major attractions of the area. Thank you so much, Greg!! All told, this & the Wisconsin Dells Boat Tours were the highlights of our trip! From a nature-loving local's perspective, some other great places to visit: Devil's Lake, Pewit's Nest, Parfrey's Glen, & the Chapel Gorge trail. If one is interested in Native American culture, there are mounds found at Man Mound Park & Kingsley Bend at Devil's Lake.

The good: - If you have kids up to age 12 yrs old, this is a fun place to visit. You get to ride a mini train with a real steam engine. - The train conductor is very knowledgeable of the train's mechanics and history. He is a wealth of knowledge. - They have a mini train station where one can board, then the train goes towards the woods for 1.5 miles. Then, you stop, and the conductor tells you a bit about the train's history and mechanics. Then, the kids get to help the conductor turn the engine, and you go back to the train station. - They have a toy train where kids can play back at the station. They also have a snack shop (pop corn, donuts, drinks, chips). - most of the staff are volunteers. You could really tell that they are passionate about trains. The needs improvement: - The sign to the entrance is easily missed. Keep a look out for it. - Land terrain is not paved. It is not wheelchair or stroller-friendly. - Not much shade. The kids' play area and tables have no shade at all. Be warned when you come by in the summer months. - The place needs landscaping. Lots of down trees. I understand they may be cleaning up after a storm in the place is run by volunteers. This place can use some TLC from gardeners, horticulture experts, and designers. We hope to go back in the fall when they have their pumpkinfest. I hope the place will be improved by then.

The kiddos really enjoyed the tubing, but to my surprise, when we went into a cove, dropped anchor, and threw out the lily pad, they played on it and enjoyed it as much as the tubing. The staff was great on the phone, during the registration and pick up, and when we returned the boat. Definitely a 5-Star experience for my family. The boat was very nice and clean. No wake area, perfect for kayaking!…read more Mirror lake rentals is inside the park, so you do need to get a state park pass for your vehicle. It is $10 a day, or $35 for the entire year. It is recommended that you book in advance if you are a large group, as the kayaks seem to be limited. It is a very popular place, as the scenery changes dramatically. The lake its' self is rather small, but is connected to windy rivers that are lined by orange cliffs. There is a nice mixture of shaded areas, as well exposed sunny areas. There are many beaches to pull up onto, and a dam at the end of the course. The lake is very friendly for beginners and experts. Kayaks are $10 an hour or $25 for a half day. It takes about 2 hours to get to the dam and back, more if you go casually and like to stop a lot like we did!
