This was a pretty cool and quick 20 minute walk to breeze through. Pretty and peaceful. Completely paved easy path.

I liked it better when you could park your car and walk to see it. Now they make you take a 2 hour boat tour to see it. The tour was nice but I think its ridiculous they won't let you visit it by car. That is not what the original owner wanted. He has to be rolling over in his grave knowing the DNR is leasing out his land for money. He bought it all because he said no one should own the Dells and everyone should be able to see it. read more

I took a cruise on the Viking ship with Thelma and Louise (forgot their names) piloting and narrating. It was an entertaining and relaxing tour. Witches Gulch is really neat. The girls knew the history and answered all questions. They have jokes that have been passed down for over a hundred years.this was perfect for me after I hiked for over 4 hours earlier. I recommend this tour for adults. It seems the little kids got bored but that's kids. They will probably remember it. read more

Drove all the way from Milwaukee to see the beautiful place and 1. Literally could barely find the place. 2. From what I have read that it's private or now private property and can't even freely enjoy such a nice place. Disappointed in the fact that I couldn't experience it with my kid and wasted gas and time going there. read more

Witches Gulch is an awesome natural phenomenon that everyone must see and one of the reasons for my visit to the Wisconsin Dells area. I think Witches Gulch was once open to the public via car, but now the entire area is only accessible via boat with Dells Boat Tours (Upper Dells). Even the boat dock to Witches Gulch says its private and restricted only for Dells Boat Tours use. There's a short walk from the dock through the gulch (wooden walkway that is easy to walk) to the other end where the restroom and concession stand are located. During our tour we were given about 15-20 minutes to do the walk, use the restroom, grab a snack and get back aboard the boat. It wasn't a lot of time but it was doable. This place is a hidden gem that more people should be aware of! Check it out! By the way, if you go during labor day weekend (like we did), make sure to call ahead to check the hours. The Dells Boat Tour website said that the operating hours from early June to Labor Day are 8am - 7pm. However, we went on August 30, showed up at 8:45am and they said their first boat was not departing until 10am. That took us by surprise. Thankfully we bought an all day parking pass so this was not an issue. The tour is about 2.25-2.5 hours long. read more

This is by far one of the coolest natural sights to see in the Dells. I've seen it now a few times, and it never gets old. I had the luxury of seeing it yesterday while on a private Dells Boat Tour, so the time constraint that others are complaining about didn't really affect us. We had a very small group (I think there were maybe 10 or 12 of us) and we were let off the boat with no time to return. We really got to just explore at our own pace. That being said, I have visited this place while on a much larger, public tour, where you are surrounded by another 80 or so folks. It might take away from the photographic opportunities, but it doesn't take away from the wonder of what it is. The concession stand is really nice and unexpected, and there are restrooms to use as well, which is nice if you've been on the boat a while. The temperature change is probably the most noticeable things. It is MUCH cooler back in the gulch than it is on the boat. It's cool and refreshing and a nice reprise from the heat. The history behind the spot is displayed on a plaque affixed to the stone wall up near the concession stand as well, so for those of you who don't know much about The Witches Gulch can get some interesting knowledge while you're there as well. Overall, it's a really awesome place to check out and I would highly recommend it if you are ever given the chance! read more

Witch's Gulch was the first stop on our Original Wisconsin Ducks boat tour where we can walk on foot. The temperatures from the sandstone and canopy of trees was much cooler and was quite pleasant to our warm sunny day. The rock formations are astonishing. Even though this was our second time visiting, I enjoyed it as much as I did a few years ago. It's only a short walk but certainly a must-see when visiting the Dells! read more

This was one of the best discoveries of the Dells. A few years ago we approached by car and parked in the lot. In the summer of 2019, we found the road to the entrance closed with no alternate access. That was a real shame because this place is (was?) really cool! I hear that you may still access this gem via a boat tour - or maybe via a nearby hiking trail if you're willing to enter a restricted access area. read more

Went and saw this wonder today. 3 adults, 4 kids from 2 to 8 yrs old. It's absolutely beautiful. That being said, this tour is totally rushed. And, crowded. We went in hopes of getting some great photos and taking in the scenery. The boat has around 80 people on it. The tour takes you on the Wisconsin River to said destination. Tour guides did really well. We docked at the gulch. The trail itself is a very easy walk, nicely maintained. Concession stand at the end. 32oz pop or slushy for a mere $5.50 and a bottle of water for $3. The downside is you're paying $30 bucks to walk with 80 people down a wooden sidewalk. It's pretty hard to get a pic without anyone else in it. Then, you all walk back. That's the downside. You're paying all this money and not getting time enjoy it. I won't do it again. Would've been so much more enjoyable to hike in. read more

What a cool sight seeing activity to check out while in the Dells. For $5 you get walking access to series of caverns formed from a unique rock formation. It looks like you can take a boat tour that either ends or begins at the Witches Gulch. The area is very cool and with lots of shade, a good place to go for a break from the hot summer sun. It was a little difficult to find, they should put up a few road signs, in my opinion. Add this place to your list! read more

You have to pay $30 pp for the boat tour to get to see this. My family and I were quite upset to discover that. It doesn't seem right to mandate taking a privately owned boat tour to see state land. Plus the boat tour is 2 hours! Hopefully enough people will complain and they will be forced to make it available to the public again. Again don't waste your time driving to the directions here. read more

First, it was almost impossible to find this place as there is no clear signage and leading up to the entrance, and the entrance only has a giant sign stating "FOOD" with a tiny sign below it stating the hike. Because this is privately owned, the guy charges way too much to get in for such short a hike, won't allow you to bring in your own food, and there's no room for more than a few cars at a time. It is an extremely tiny parking lot, and when we got there, the owner reamed us out for trying to pull in to see the parking situation and said, "Can't you see there's no room here...come back in two hours". He was a complete jerk and if that says anything about how the place is run, I would not try and go back. read more

The gulch itself is very pretty, though the company running the boat tours rigged a 99-year lease with the DNR for rights over it, and thus can charge $30 just to see it. There used to be road access, with a $3.00 fee, but that has since been removed in order to make more money off the boat tours. It is state land, and borders more state land, which I hiked, and once entering the gulch (for free) was promptly kicked out because it was "closed" since I was not a part of their tour. They also have a private dock, upon which you cannot dock even a kayak (we tried). It makes me very angry how they have chosen to exploit the most beautiful natural features of the area in order to make money. The scenery here, gorgeous- the tour company; crooked and corrupt. Would not recommend supporting them. read more

My family has been going to Witches Gulch for years. I have one family member who is deathly afraid of boats, and up until recently, we were able to drive to Witches Gulch - pay the entrance fee and enjoy the walk through the beautiful canyon. I read online reviews stating that you could not drive there any longer, so I called to ask if this was true. I was instructed that we could drive. So we went, and were met by a rude Witches Gulch Concessions manager that told us we were not allowed in, even though the admission sign was still hanging up. I understand that they need to limit the number of cars in the parking lot, but considering this land is owned by the Wisconsin DNR, all public should be allowed access - not just those willing to pay a large fee to ride the Upper Dells boat tour. Please figure something out to accommodate those who are not able to take the boat. The sign at the Gulch reads that the "No one can own the Dells" - well, apparently that's not true. read more
