Central Park, I love you so!…read more I love this place. It is such a great use of land. I was so happy when they started developing it. It's long and narrow shape allows for so many things! I enjoy Fete de Marquette the most of all the festivals/events that take place here. Food, music, a Ferris Wheel! Lots of vendors to browse and even cool activities for the kiddos. 10/10 recommend! I attended the Isthmus Food Cart Fest here, too. Wow that was a BUMMER. I won't get into how much it sucked..... But, it was still a nice set-up at this park. The park also has a skate-park at one end. It's brand new (within the last 2-3 years) and seems to be pretty popular. About midway, there is a really nice brand new restroom facility as well. There is a farmers market weekly in the warm months, too!

While excited about the new venue, I was sad to leave a memorable (yet dilapidated) setting. After fours weeks of play at Hometown USA Community Park, I have to say the complex is pretty nice. There is ample parking for the amount of people that come through there. The two softball diamonds (next to the ice arena) are in very nice shape. They don't get chewed up too bad as the night progresses, though in the later games you might get some funny hops through the higher-traffic areas. The fences are long enough that more balls are in play, but it's not impossible to get a home run. I like that challenge. The shelter near those fields houses relatively clean bathrooms. The covered area will be good if we encounter rain - it's a large enough area to hold all of us while a shower passes. Nice. The shelter also houses a concession stand. They are fairly well stocked, but it's "cans only" for beer (no taps or pitchers). Also, they don't pop their own corn. Well, they DO, but it's microwave popcorn. Basically, the concessions are whatever they can buy in cases and sell through the window. It's serviceable, but it could be so much better. For the rest of the enormous complex, I haven't been able to experience any of that. I appears to be just as nice as what I've seen, and people I know enjoy spending their time there for baseball games, their kids' games, etc.

I've also attended a foraging class here through the Madison Public Library, which was a great experience. The trails are easy to walk, but keep an eye out for black walnuts that ripen and drop onto the ground--you could easily step on one and twist an ankle (as I unfortunately did). Along the way, you might spot squirrels and hear birds singing in the bushes. I even came across some mushrooms, which reminded me of the foraging class. There's a restroom facility and a pond nearby, and in winter, local families love coming here for sledding on hill. I've done it myself--it's a lot of fun, just make sure to protect your back on the way down! Don't say I didn't warn you!

If you have your own skates you can skate for as long as you want. They have 2 rinks, one for regular ice skating and the other for hockey. They have the green assistance rollators, for when you need assistance ice skating, that are useful. The ice was chipped in some areas, but overall good quality. There is a huge hill close by that looks like it can be sledded when there's more snow.
