Great time on the Wisconsin River... We did the Upper Dells tour and we are glad that we did. The boat makes two stops for the opportunity to walk and see nature up close... wonderful afternoon.

Everything was perfect. A little overcast day, but it made it even a little bit more enjoyable. We enjoyed the captain, John and his nephew Henry. They were very knowledgeable and made the trip a little extra special. We were on the Chicagoan!! It was very helpful that they pointed out areas to take pictures, told stories about the area, and our favorite, the dog jump!!

I took the Wisconsin Dells boat tour to Witch's Gulch, and it's definitely worth it. The boat ride takes you across the lake to this stunning slot canyon, which you can explore on a platform walk--highly recommend it, since the only way to get there is by boat (no walking through the park). Once there, the tour makes two stops: one at the famous "Witch's Gulch and another at a spot known for a legendary dog that jumps on a toweing rock. There are restrooms and some concessions at both stops, which is nice. The staff were friendly, funny, and shared interesting facts throughout the tour. Overall, if you're visiting Wisconsin Dells, this is a must-do experience!

Though I do feel like a lot of things have gotten ruined by Taurus into Wisconsin Dells the Dells boat tours feels unmatched compared to things to do in the area. I booked my boat tour online and when you book it online you could see any boat tour basically which I didn't know. When I showed up to the Dells they didn't tell me what the start times were for the boat tours. Thankfully me and my wife were able to catch the 6:00 tour. The staff here were really friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating I was also happy that the tour boat size amount of passengers was actually really small which made this trip feel a lot more personable and specialized. I can't believe that the tour guide was an 18 year old just graduated high school because he was so good at his job it felt like he was doing this for years. The sites that you will see are phenomenal , the places the boat will stop at are phenomenal as well with plenty of great short walk and experiences which have restrooms and concession stands as well. This is definitely worth the two hour Adventure too they also feature other similar tours as well but I definitely consider this one my favorite one of all I get this place 4.5 Stars and I was overall very happy with my journey

I went for Upper Dells tour on a Saturday. The area was beautiful. It was a tour worth taking. Captian was very experienced. There were 2 stops in the middle of the nature - Witches Gulches and Standing Rock. Both places were beautiful.

We recently took a day trip up to Dells, about an hour from Madison, and made a couple of stops along the way. First stop was to Dr. Evermor's Sculpture Park, which is free to enter and park. Pwr its website, it is the largest scrap metal park in the world and filled with fascinating metal sculptures, many of them upcycled from salvaged materials. It's a creative and quirky spot that's definitely worth a stroll (30 minutes). There's a small donation box with a QR code if you'd like to contribute to its upkeep. Then we continued on to Upper Dells to experience the Witches Gulch slot canyon via a boat tour. The tour costs $39 per adult, with boats departing every 30 minutes. Boat capacity is 100 pax. They offer 50% off on a 2nd boat tour to Lower Dells but we didn't get it since it is on a speed boat. The Upper Dells boat ride itself was ok and lasted around two hours, with two scenic stops where you can stretch your legs, use the restrooms, and grab snacks at concession stands. Hot dog was $6. A few things to note: the boat can get quite noisy, and the seats are not comfortable at all. The entire row of chairs aren't secured to the floor and can move around. There's an upper deck that's open-air, great for views, but it can get very hot or windy depending on the weather. The lower deck is covered which worked fine for us since the line to board didn't allow me to snag a spot upstairs. Also, be aware there are no restrooms on the boat itself. My tour guide was a college kid. Overall, it was a pleasant and unique day trip. If you're looking to add more to your visit, there's also the Ho-Chunk Casino nearby for some additional entertainment.

We came here on our way back home yesterday. My son love boat rides and this one was his favorite so far. We got here early around 8:30am and boat left around 9:00 when it filled up. Our driver gave us a great tour with some corny jokes. We also got to see deer in the forest too. If you mention online deal then they will honor discount at the ticket office.

This is a very touristic activity, but I was a tourist that wanted to check out the Witches Gulch & other cool rock formations. It's a nice opportunity to get on the water & enjoy the weather while learning some history. Tours run every 30-45 minutes. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite. There are two different Dells Boat tours, aside from their jet boats. The Upper Dells Boat tour is the one that is 2 hours long and takes you to two stops where you have the chance to see the Witches Gulch & Stand Rock the spot where HH Bennett made Wisconsin Dells famous. He created the stop action shutter & captured his son leaping the gap. To commemorate this moment they have a trained dog leap instead of a human for our enjoyment. The dog was really fast! Although there is a safety net below, that is still quite a fall. Essh. I hope those dogs get paid well in treats and with lots of love risking their safety at our expense. The first stop is the Witches Gulch which I found fascinating, but it's only a short walk in and back out. It's a lot shorter than you think. It ends with a concession stand & restrooms. Which took away from the experience. You're walking through these carved out formations with greenery throughout and then you reach a stand selling popcorn, nachos & drinks. Although that popcorn was good. I'm not sure if that was because I was really hungry. Both stops are a 20-25 minute stop which allows enough time to use the restrooms at both areas if necessary & take some pics. You are not obligated to leave the boat. But I recommend you do so if you're physically able. Otherwise you will miss out on the two highlights of the tour. The stand rock stop, our boat captain reminded us if we walk up, we have to also walk down. In my mind I was imagining a real high elevation as if we needed some training to hike Mt. Everest or something. It wasn't bad at all. . There is some elevation but if you are reasonably mobile and can navigate uneven elevated terrain, you should be fine. On the second stop if you have young kids, keep an eye on them as the dock you unload from has no railing or ropes on the water side. This stop has a gift shop which you conveniently have to walk through to exit. Aside from concession stands & gift shops detracting from the beauty of nature, the tour was a nice way to explore the area that is not otherwise accessible by car. Regarding seating- like others have mentioned, pick your seats wisely as you cannot change seats throughout the tour. They do this because apparently they have had fisticuffs or fights happen over lawn chairs in the past. Yes. Those beloved, highly coveted chairs are old school lawn chairs. I'm not sure if the chairs are the same downstairs. But the upper deck ones are and they are in sets of 2 on the left and right side. I felt that the top deck was a good place to sit as long as the weather is good. From the top deck you get to see the beautiful sky and the trees tower over & nice views of the cliffs and water. Also do not leave anything on the boat. They have covered seating on benches while you wait for the next boat to board. If you can try to be at least one of the first 30-50ish person to board, you will have a better chance of getting a seat on the upper deck. Bring sunglasses and a hat & wear sunblock if sitting on top. If you get chilly easily be sure to bring a jacket. As for wheelchair accessibility, i'm not certain but from what I remember there were some ramps. However, I think there was a height difference requiring a step up & step down to enter & exit the boat. I recommend calling directly or referring to their website. They do have an elevator to go down to the dock to board. Otherwise, you can navigate a long stairway of stone/concere steps down.

Highly recommend the UPPER Dells Boat Tour. The two spots for Witches Gulch and to see the "dog jump" at Stand Rock are awesome. If you are vacationing with dogs the "Upper" Dells Boat Tour is doggie-friendly! We got to pet some many cute dogs on the boat. Heads up: they prefer you dont switch seats - my daughter really wanted to sit on top so we waited for the next boat. Worth it! There are concessions and bathrooms at the boat's two stops, if needed. It was a really informative trip. Some of my personal photos. Side note: eat at The District right when you get off :) Awesome views of the boats and waterfront.

This is the best thing to do when visiting Wisconsin Dells. If this is your first time visiting Wisconsin, Dells do not miss out on the Wisconsin boat tours. If you book the upper and lower Dells tour they give you 50% off one of one of the tours. The scenery is amazing. And the boat ride is relaxin with the tour guide, giving you history about the area. It was the first time taking my kids there. They loved it. If you have small children, the nice thing is that they allow you to take the stroller on the upper Dells tour. On the lower Dells, you leave it at the dock.

We went on the Upper Dells boat tour with Capt Doug and guide Henry. The scenery is amazingly beautiful and Henry was very informative. We loved the Witches Gulch. Apparently the only way to visit this beautiful area is by this boat tour. Definitely worth the money.

Ask the Community - Dells Boat Tours

Is this Upper Dells boat tour wheelchair accessible?

I don't think so. There are stairs up and down to the two seating levels on the boat.

    How long is the tour?

My family went on the Upper Dells tour and it lasted approximately two hours.

Are there bathrooms on the upper dells boat tour?

There are no bathrooms on the boats but there is bathrooms at the end of the witches gulch path. There is probably bathrooms at the second stop also. The concessions area was closed at the time we were there, the end of April.

The tour lasts around 30 minutes and takes you through winding rock formations and narrow alleys. I was amazed at how the horses could walk us through such tight spaces. During the ride, the guide shared interesting facts about the rocks, the history of the place, and even about the blue roan horses. It was nice to learn how well these horses are cared for during the off-season and how they get to stay at the farm after they retire. Our horses were about 10 years old, and they did a great job. This was a very different and unique tour compared to others I've taken. I absolutely loved it! A wonderful way to spend time in the Dells.

I made sure to read a ton of reviews before coming here today. I had major concerns about people…read moresaying there were high charges to use your credit card and that they stop mid-tour to try and sell you trinkets. I was also worried about the religious comments many reviews have talked about as the last thing I want is to be paid to be proselytized to. When I arrived, I got even more worried about that as there are religious images everywhere. We were also frustrated because their website shows they open at 9 am (see screenshot) but we arrived at 930 to find other people waiting saying they were told they don't open until 10:00. We were not off to a good start. HOWEVER, all of that changed when the carriage pulled in. We walked up to purchase our tickets and there is large sign The ticket window that states there admission is $21.95 per adult and you will be charged a credit card fee. Right underneath that it says that if you pay cash tickets are $20. We chose to pay cash and I recommend that you do too, because that will leave you with more money to tip your driver. Our driver was very nice and informative and nowhere along our journey did he talk about anything religious. He explained that the canyon was formed by nature and untouched by man. Our tour was full of interesting information and a few laughs here and there. Asking for female volunteers to change the horse's diaper might have been a little misogynistic, but I don't think it was malicious. The tour was very laid-back and I felt comfortable. He did stopidway through the tour to rest the horses for a moment and offer us some postcards. He explained, as people have noted, that he makes the majority of his money as a tour guide from tips and from selling the postcards. We chose to purchase the cards at the end of the journey because we would have tipped anyway. It actually seems quite sad that the guides feel the need to do this in order to make a living wage. It was dog friendly but it was clear right away that the horses did not want our dog anywhere near them. So we were very respectful of that and made sure not to bring her close to them and to sit all the way in the back. She didn't bark or fuss at all and even fell asleep in our laps on the ride. There were 13 of us on the wagon so it was a little packed. It was a very short trip through the canyon, maybe 30 or 40 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. The Dells are incredibly touristy and this was by far the most enjoyable thing we did here. I would definitely recommend this tour, although I think it probably makes a big difference which guide you get. I also think that being prepared helped me enjoy the experience that much more. Happy trails everyone!

We had such a wonderful ride on the train today!!…read more The train follows the original 1850s rail bed, through beautiful Wisconsin forest land. If one wants an interior view of local flora & fauna, this is low energy, fantastic way to explore it! Children & adults (esp those who are children at heart!) will thrill at riding the small scale train. We loved watching the engine be turned around on the hand-operated round table. Our favorite part of the visit was the personal attention we received from Conductor Greg! We visited on a late summer Thursday afternoon when the rail was not as busy, and he treated us to a personalized narrated tour of the history of the railway as well as the fauna, flora, & major attractions of the area. Thank you so much, Greg!! All told, this & the Wisconsin Dells Boat Tours were the highlights of our trip! From a nature-loving local's perspective, some other great places to visit: Devil's Lake, Pewit's Nest, Parfrey's Glen, & the Chapel Gorge trail. If one is interested in Native American culture, there are mounds found at Man Mound Park & Kingsley Bend at Devil's Lake.

The good: - If you have kids up to age 12 yrs old, this is a fun place to visit. You get to ride a mini train with a real steam engine. - The train conductor is very knowledgeable of the train's mechanics and history. He is a wealth of knowledge. - They have a mini train station where one can board, then the train goes towards the woods for 1.5 miles. Then, you stop, and the conductor tells you a bit about the train's history and mechanics. Then, the kids get to help the conductor turn the engine, and you go back to the train station. - They have a toy train where kids can play back at the station. They also have a snack shop (pop corn, donuts, drinks, chips). - most of the staff are volunteers. You could really tell that they are passionate about trains. The needs improvement: - The sign to the entrance is easily missed. Keep a look out for it. - Land terrain is not paved. It is not wheelchair or stroller-friendly. - Not much shade. The kids' play area and tables have no shade at all. Be warned when you come by in the summer months. - The place needs landscaping. Lots of down trees. I understand they may be cleaning up after a storm in the place is run by volunteers. This place can use some TLC from gardeners, horticulture experts, and designers. We hope to go back in the fall when they have their pumpkinfest. I hope the place will be improved by then.
